- Another fantastic place in southern Shanxi Province! I came here not expecting much but it really blew me away. The Castle of Chancellor Chen is a vast family compound in Yangcheng Xian, just outside of Jincheng in Southern Shanxi Province. Full of art, beautiful architecture and amazing gardens - this place is a GEM!
Once home to Chen Tingjing, a former Qing dynasty Chancellor, tutor to the Kangxi emperor and chief editor of the famous Kangxi dictionary - there is plenty to explore here!
Another awesome place. Thanks Nick
I had only heard of Chen Tingjing in Chinese costume dramas. He was an important role in Emperor Kangxi's cabinet, but I didn't expect that he owned such a luxurious manor and preserved it to this day. It is really a place where ancient and modern times intersect. Thanks Nick for bringing new knowledge!
I heard there was a famous TV show about him haha, they actually filmed it here! Glad you enjoyed the vid 😊
Thanks for showing us these places! Truly fascinating. I like this 'little China' more than 'big China' (Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors, etc). Love these off the beaten path towns and hamlets.
A lot of the smaller towns have the best history. A lot of 'big ticket' places are often over-touristy. For the real history - nowhere beats Shanxi....
another amazing video Nick, thank you!
Oh thanks so much! New one out very soon
Yes, a fantastic place and very well preserved!
Your channel deserves more viewers.
Thanks (i think so too 😂) But, at the moment i'm happy with a small, appreciative audience. Your comments and kind words help me a lot
5:57 the decorations even on the beams of the wooden colonnade--like structure are so ornate and colorful. 6:35 I wonder if that writing is a poem~
This whole complex was so ornate. I haven't seen many places quite like this
love your channel!
That makes me happy, thank you!
Thanks for sharing another little known but fascinating city. Outside of China few people have ever heard about it. Not sure many Chinese inside China know this place either. The full Chinese name is 山西省 晋城市 阳城县 北留镇 皇城村 - The buildings and compounds here are gorgeous. For history buffs there must be intriguing stories on how the emperors bestowed prestige and wealth on this place.
I loved it. I asked quite a few of my Chinese friends about it and no one knew the place. I think that just goes to show how much there is to explore in China.
Love your videos brother, my will to visit China long term just keeps getting bigger!
It's a place that sucks you in. I've been a long time now, i like it more and more!
Beautiful surroundings, great video.
Thanks! Finally got the drone up for this one (i'm so lazy with my drone)
Looks like a real authentic place!
Certainly is! A good maze to explore
fancy stuff!
👍
By any chance are you visiting Taiyuan Ancient City? It is surrounded by a huge castle complete with a moat.
I didn't get to Taiyuan on this trip. It will happen soon however - i have a lot of unfinished business in Shanxi haha! I'll be sure to check it out
Would be nice to get a look inside an ancient house
Noted. i'll try my best. The oldest house in China is actually not far from here. I'll be back here soon i think
Someone is a seeming English teacher,but actually is a UA-camr in secret🤔
shhh, don't tell anyone 😂
Too many places to see and not enough time😢
Tell me about it!
The Kangxi Emperor once wrote to Louis XIV.
Two long serving rulers. They had.common interest in each others countries and cultures....shame we can't be more like that today
