I'm kinda sad to know that Hole Dwelling was written during a time when Kikuo was so distressed, because that song brought me a lot of comfort. Anytime I felt super overwhelmed, I would hear this song on loop for hours. I'm glad that he is doing better now but I really appreciate his music that doesn't follows standard musical theory, as it makes his songs special. It's also a shame that Kikuo got exposed to Western culture late because I guess we dig darker songs more than what a general Japanese audience would accept. It's like when you want to draw a landscape but don't know nothing about perspective. Sometimes the drawing will become the way you wanted it, but sometimes not, and you won't get why.

Coffee Dope into the seaも聞いていました。
Honestly, I was teetering on the edge of taking my own life back then. I was desperate to find something, anything to cling onto. I found your music by complete chance. It was dark and beautiful, I hadn't heard anything like it before. I thought I could hang on a bit longer to see what you make next. Even now I'm still clinging to things to keep me afloat, but it's different now. I finally feel that bit of strength and fire to keep going. Now instead of listening to your songs when I'm sad, I'm come to your songs when I'm happy. Thanks, kikuo.
That's exactly how it was for me too. I think Kikuo found a lot of his fans in their time of darkness and gave them something to relate to. His music made us not feel alone. I think he's somewhat of a saint for that.
It’s amazing the kind of impact Kikuo has had in the community 💕 I was also in a very dark place when I discovered his work, and his songs almost made me feel as if I wasn’t alone. It gave me a reason to continue on. Kikuo is truly amazing
What's minblowing is that his first VOCALOID song was already a masterpiece. It's still one of my favorites. So it didn't take him that long to find his style and identity as a producer.
"tried to learn music theory from my teacher, was told not to because it'd make my music boring" that music teacher knew what they were talking about. ~a sound engineer 9:38 is the oldest song i've heard in this list! I had no clue that you have such a brutal life during all of this. Although, I did assume so a little bit from the darker music taste, but I fricken adore you, Kikuo!
How many years did Kikuo-san sit on a balance ball instead of a chair LOL??? I'm glad you have a chair now and I'm excited to listen to more of your works now that you're feeling better!! Thank you for all the years of music I didn't think it was that long ago that you released songs like A Happy Death or UFO and the rest. Time passes by so quick, thank you for your work!!
In just the past 2 months Kikuo has made heavy strides to probably being the most outgoing and human producer I know of. Especially all of his work to make sure his American market isn’t out of the loop, I’m certain it’s not going underappreciated. Such a unique experience from this video that I don’t think I’ve seen from anyone else, it truly gives me a greater appreciation knowing that everything is mostly self taught and hearing the progression of how things came together.
I can’t believe that my birth year (not as miku) was the start of Kikuo’s legendary _vocaloid_ beginning. My man’s music career just BOOSTED through the roof during (and after) the 2010’s. Excellent job Kikuo, keep up the stunning work!
Videos like thins which show us how the artist started to where they are now in their glory days is so amazing. Thank you Kikuo, for your amazing music
"Gomenne Gomenne" was the song that I discover from you, so I might not a long life fan of yours yet. But I Adore it. I love it. Thank you Kikuo-P. You gave me a meaning to life again with your song, everytime I felt depressed, I could just hear your musics and the stressed just gone in a matter of hour.
mine also,i discovered it through comments on Maretu's coin locker baby.I was traumatized in gomene gomene but as soon as time progresses i discovered Aishite from him.And went to his other songs,i discovered how underrated his other songs are especially his one album even though it's a KikuoMiku album(it's on my pfp). Also omg yes Kikuo's music and songs help me cope,it gives me energy to do things and i really love it
10:33 "Vocaloid songs at the time were very dark, so I thought that even if it was dark, people would listen to it. I went all out" *looks at I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry* Yeah, you definitely weren't kidding about going all out
As someone who's been listening and enjoying your music since 2009 or so, I just want to say that I'm so glad you never gave up. I don't know if any of us really know what will happen next, but I'm excited to see where you go from here.
i've been listening to your music since 2011, when i was 11 years old. i'm 21 now, and your music still speaks to me even after all this time. you've grown so much, and i'm proud of you!!
i just loved the fact that u kept doing music ignoring the hate and appreciating the reviews, and that above that a few people understood or supported you, you didnt stop composing and searching new methods to do music that everyone can enjoy, including yourself; my respects dude
I am actually so impressed with how well he tuned vocaloids for someone just starting out. Compared to everyone else he had a unique way of making miku sound different from other producers.
S, on the moon and yume no umi actually sound pretty good! They feel like the first foray into what would eventually become your style. I like them not /because/ they are your style, but because I think the other more "peppy" music you were making just didn't stand out enough and weren't unique. The darker songs sounded more interesting, and like you were experimenting and having fun creatively. It's great that you didn't give up and accepted and sought out criticism and kept perservering to make music! It must have been very difficult - I know I couldn't have done that. And I'm impressed you made sonna me and gomenne at the same time! They both became very popular with the dark theme, and it's great how over time you were able to shift to a more artistic and nuanced way of presenting dark topics rather than going for a sort of "shock value" by being blunt or explicit. I love your work kikuo and I hope you take your time and rest easy while creating music in the future
I totally agree. I was told even back then that dark and creative music was better than "peppy" music that was designed to "sell", but I wasn't sure. Because I was obsessive about making money to get out of the house as soon as possible, and I had a fixed idea that flashy, up-tempo songs would sell. In fact, it was the very behavior of the listeners that taught me to make darker songs. It was not me, but the listeners who discovered my talent first. In this respect, I am very grateful to my listeners. Thank you very much!
wow kikuo history this is super inspiring, seeing how many times kikuo was knocked down doing something he was genuinely good at doing, it makes me sad how everyone in the past treated his early works, very rude but he managed to take that criticism and better himself with it. its amazing to see how he is now compared to many years ago knowing that kikuo spent many years not knowing how chord progressions worked despite being a full time music maker is somewhat comforting, this says that its ok to not know how to do everything you should know about your occupation. like how many of us artists begin drawing randomly without taking proper classes and studies ive first listened to kikuo in my first year in high school (around the time i was leaving an abusive, toxic home and starting a new life in new home so my head wasn't in the right place to create art at the moment) and i still do today, i always turn his music on when i started making art again and it always put a smile on my face when i was upset, even the dark songs. kikuo has definitely earned the love he gets today
Oh, your old music is so different but I like it a lot, I can definitely hear the DJ Technorch influence in your +God track. What a journey, even at the beginning your work was great even if very different from what you do now. It's sad to see you received a lot of negative comments during your time on work I think was very good. I'm glad you've found your style now and are confident with it, it's very distinct.
I'm not some sort of big fan, but I'm extremely grateful and feel somewhat humbled that I live in the era where I can bear witness to the legendary Kikuo, and enjoy his previous works and those yet to come, to the absolute fullest. One day for sure, we will all look back to these years and can say that "indeed, those were the days."
his songs were a HUGE part of my teenage years and i’m still a such big fan to this day!! the vocaloid community would definitely not be the same without his work
Fuck fuck fuck this is too perfect. I can't believe Kikuo started out with a bomberman inspired hardcore beat. I wish Kikuo would do a new bomberman indpired song. I love the way the samples of the old SNES games sound and it would be a great callback to his roots!
If I'm not wrong, this was brought upon partly by a fan's comment about a playlist of Kikuo's discography compiled by another fan. Kikuo replied saying that he was amazed that people could even dig up some of his very early work and said that there are some of his early work that just didn't exist in the internet anymore
@@minana2785 He has some stuff on his pixiv (I don't remember the title but there's a long story that I love as much as his music) and others as freebies on some of his albums
Absolutely fascinating, Kikuo please never stop being you, best wishes for your future endeavors! Also thank you for the option of English subtitles as well it was quite the experience to learn more about your history!
As I sat on my bed cutting my skin I found myself scrolling on UA-cam and listening to Kikuo's music, this made my life more easier to live. Kikuo made my negative thoughts go away and make me feel at ease they also made my life have a purpose which is to look forward on the next music that they would post and vibe with it instead of taking my own life.
I'm absolutely fascinated in hearing about an artists journey. Everyone starts somewhere and it's inspiring to hear his experiences with others in the vocaloid scene. Never stop being you, Kikuo!

No wonder his music is so good. He's been doing this for years.
What's minblowing is that his first VOCALOID song was already a masterpiece. It's still one of my favorites. So it didn't take him that long to find his style and identity as a producer.
"tried to learn music theory from my teacher, was told not to because it'd make my music boring"

9:38 is the oldest song i've heard in this list!
I actually bought a balance ball bc of this video xd. It helps with focusing imo.
Lowkey looks kinda comfy ngl
I’m actually kinda tempted to try a balance ball out at work now...
he actually uses a standing desk now! ^^
imagine how the people bullying him on 2chan feel now that he's one of the biggest vocaloid artists out there
In just the past 2 months Kikuo has made heavy strides to probably being the most outgoing and human producer I know of.
By American I meant English speaking, my bad.
Have some respect, spell his name properly ..

As someone who's been listening and enjoying your music since 2009 or so, I just want to say that I'm so glad you never gave up.
I don't know if any of us really know what will happen next, but I'm excited to see where you go from here.
Bro his music truly evolved and looking at the growth is really dang engaging
i've been listening to your music since 2011, when i was 11 years old. i'm 21 now, and your music still speaks to me even after all this time. you've grown so much, and i'm proud of you!!
i just loved the fact that u kept doing music ignoring the hate and appreciating the reviews, and that above that a few people understood or supported you, you didnt stop composing and searching new methods to do music that everyone can enjoy, including yourself; my respects dude
i think he rather learned from the hate and improved instead of giving up which is very admirable
I love how he actually drop out of school and leave home just to create all this masterpiece, and it's all worth it
When the world needed him the most
He returned

@@kikuo_sound Thank you! ^^

wow
kikuo history
this is super inspiring, seeing how many times kikuo was knocked down doing something he was genuinely good at doing, it makes me sad how everyone in the past treated his early works, very rude but he managed to take that criticism and better himself with it. its amazing to see how he is now compared to many years ago
knowing that kikuo spent many years not knowing how chord progressions worked despite being a full time music maker is somewhat comforting, this says that its ok to not know how to do everything you should know about your occupation. like how many of us artists begin drawing randomly without taking proper classes and studies
ive first listened to kikuo in my first year in high school (around the time i was leaving an abusive, toxic home and starting a new life in new home so my head wasn't in the right place to create art at the moment) and i still do today, i always turn his music on when i started making art again and it always put a smile on my face when i was upset, even the dark songs. kikuo has definitely earned the love he gets today
Wow i thought this was a fan analysis but turns out it's by kikuo! Nobody's a bigger kikuo fan than kikuo himself 😆
Oh shoot, I didn't even realized till I read your comment
If I'm not wrong, this was brought upon partly by a fan's comment about a playlist of Kikuo's discography compiled by another fan. Kikuo replied saying that he was amazed that people could even dig up some of his very early work and said that there are some of his early work that just didn't exist in the internet anymore
@@leonidesbabanto1585 yea, about his early work, im surprise their could found alot of them like wow "hardcore fan power" i guess
You know what? I’m really happy that he addresses everytime he was caught in a public outrage and acknowledges that it had affect on his growth!
