EDIT: I made a second channel response video regarding the Antonblast criticism that I received: ua-cam.com/video/PLxIQgau0Mc/v-deo.html I also re-edited the review regarding said criticism: ua-cam.com/video/9IqNL3Og9C8/v-deo.html ORIGINAL MESSAGE: Regarding the Antonblast segment of the video, it seems like a lot of mega fans of the game took it to heart, which I can respect. My goal wasn't to compare it to Pizza Tower 1:1, but I understand it did came a bit over like that, and I should've had a better way to express my thoughts. I did enjoy the game quite a bit, thus why I gave the game a B-tier (which I consider to be good). Yes, I do think it's fun and it has some snazzy qualities. I can also see myself bumping it up to an A-tier if some of the issues I have with it get fixed. The devs already made a lot of fixes since release, so I can definitely see it happen. I was planning on jumping back into Antonblast and 100%ing it anyhow so I might do a follow up video on my 2nd channel once I'm done with that, and I'll try to express my opinions better and without comparing it to Pizza Tower as much. I think any criticism towards my videos/channel is fair even if you just want to insult me, I welcome it all with open arms since I really do want to improve the stuff I put online.
Saying "My goal wasnt to compare it to pizza tower 1:1" then starting your anton blast segment with "It doesnt even come close to the genius of pizza tower" is such insane backpedaling
@@Dusterr the problem with said problems are that they are kinda similar in pizza tower, for example: the hammer jump problem is almost as the same as running up in every wall in PT the "i cant see what the hell is happening here" is like trying to go mach 4 for the first time in PT (but i have to agree that you cant see anything in the blimp section of antonblast) at the end of the day both games are really different and i think the problem most of the people had is the unfair comparison
The Mouthwashing community gaining a reputation as one of the worst communities despite the game being barely into a year of it's run is actually insane
Shout out to india for making such titles like mouthwashing, undertale and other hits. And also dealing with toxic fans, fandom and hatedom, that shit must be tiring
Comparing antonblast to pizza tower is unfair since both are based on wario land 4 and pizza tower focuses on speed and movement mechanics from wario land while antonblast focuses on the combat and plataforming from wario land, so playing antonblast expecting pizza tower speedy gameplay is kinda unfair.
@@БагакашвилиМлхазthis is important to remember, they both reference each others games IN their own games, so these 2 games being similar or compared isn’t a bad thing at all
Calling Antonblast "Pizza Tower 2" because they both took inspiration from Wario Land is like if people called Omori "Undertale 2" because they both took inspiration from Mother
How is this the only point you're focusing on, He did compare the two, but I just don't see how his only point is A- he mentioned that both games are inspired by the same game. B-he mentioned that both games are similar So, a + b = his argument is that it's pizza tower 2 That was less of a point and more of a comparison to link the games together. The two games are constantly being compared because of similar gameplay by the fans, but when someone points out the flaws in the game, they refute it because of an unimportant point 💔 This is just pure, no doubt in my mind, nutpicking fallacy 😔
it still pisses me off how many people there are that look at indie games and just think "Yeah never heard about it, pass" and then go play the newest AAA slop.
Its unfortunate how many people think the other way around too. Indie has slop AAA has slop. Indie has great games AAA has great games. People act like its so one-sided when it really isn't.
@@technoboop1890 It's way more prevalent in AAA tho. name one indie slop that came out this year (that isn't banban, the best game ever made). even then you could probably name three other AAA slop for every bad indie.
Look, It’s really disheartening that the whole section about Antonblast is barely anything about the game but only comparing it to Pizza Tower, I really love pt but You gotta understand that these games are completely different! Sure, they borrow the same inspo but comparing them cut and dry is so disingenuous. Also being bad at the game is not valid criticism 😗
For real, the music is ALL incredible. I can’t think of a single track that I haven’t hummed to myself at least once. Idle Hands is a certified hood classic.
yea... personally a bit tired of them being compared when they aim for different gameplay and story by a lot. the only part that is all that similar are the ones based on the inspiration of wario land 4. it's not aiming to be a pizza tower 2 it's aiming to be it's own thing.
this review of antonblast felt more like a pizza tower review ngl. bro even the lead dev on antonblast said it was one sided like damn 💀it wasnt supposed to be a follow up to pizza tower…I am not mad he didn’t like antonblast I’m mad that he was yapping abt pizza tower
Going into Antonblast already comparing into Pizza Tower feels kind of disingenuous. Yes, they are similar and share influences, but theyre still such different games that going in with those expectations feels like you're setting it up to be underwhelming. Also, Pinball Mire slander is ridiculous, it's SERIOUSLY not that bad.
I honestly feel like the game came out too early. Many people,me included, are still into Pizza tower, so we base our opinion of how good pizza tower is, ignoring that Antonblast is its own game. That being said, Anton blast does feel slow to me, for some reason
True, as much as I like Foekoe’s content, his Antonblast review was honestly unfair, not only because of the game suffering a lot from stupid "Pizza Tower copy" claims, but also because Pizza Tower and Antonblast are going for two different things, Pizza Tower is about speed, Antonblast is about exploration. Him saying that "Pizza Tower did the Wario Land concept better" is honestly just really weird, Pizza Tower barely feels like a Wario Land game outside of Pizza Time, transformations and other mechanics, most of Pizza Tower is brand new things introduced to the Wario Land formula and that is great, but Antonblast is insanely more faithful to it’s inspiration, just by the controls itself, the larger focus on exploration for big point rewards and a lot more, so i will say Antonblast did the Wario Land formula better because it has a lot of Wario Land inspiration while also feeling lile a whole new thing.
@foxyinspace1471 That's fair. I didn't realise what was happening because of the editing, but huge oversight on his part, especially after showing some context 2 seconds prior
Honestly maybe you would've enjoyed Antonblast more if you didn't just keep comparing it with Pizza Tower - but even then, I think a lot of the problems you mentioned also exists in PT. I also found the hammer bounce problem to be weird to get used to at first, then got used to it later where it clicks really well - BUT - this is also like almost exactly like Pizza Tower, no? Accidental running, accidental walljumps, accidental dash jumps off of a cliff, all because the controls are hard to master, but ended up being very worth after learning. Pinball Mire honestly didn't bother me too much, maybe if you're doing time trial it can be frustrating though, I can kinda get that, but Pizza Tower also has some stages that are kinda ehhh or just straight up annoying. Looking at you, Peppibot Factory. ....That being said, Cinnamon Springs deserves to die.
I absolutely hate Pinball Mire and like Cinnamon Springs, personally. That segment sucked, though. Especially the part where he said that the bosses weren't fun to play against. Like, what? The bosses are one of the best parts of the game, imo!
I can do all platforming segments in Antonblast flawlessly now unless I try to get fancy and skippy with the hammer bounce. I still after 18 hours still have quite an issue with accidentally hammer bouncing, it's the biggest problem with the game and needs a separate button option.
Alright I’m disliking this video because you cannot seriously look at a game and say “this game is mid because it’s not like this other, completely different game.” I have had arguments about these things with many people and it drives me insane. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk isn’t a worse Jet Set Radio, AntonBlast isn’t a worse Pizza Tower, Terraria isn’t a worse Minecraft, Metal Gear Solid 3 isn’t a worse Hitman (how tf did someone even make that comparison with a straight face). My point is, your criticism of AntonBlast being a worse Pizza Tower is just wrong in every way, it’s nothing like Pizza Tower and trying to compare it as such is just a strawman argument.
Yeah he did antonblast kinda dirty... is sad seing almost no one playing antonblast since the release i am expecting the big youtubers, nintendo youtubers and also people that played pizza tower tower to check anton but no one seams to give a shit and only is being compared as a pizza tower crash grab.
@guilhermenascimento9125At least it has sold at least 1 Antonillion copies. Also hopefully this can help Anton’s community from taking some of the hits the PT community did.
@guilhermenascimento9125 its just fucking unfair. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS GAME IS COMPLETELY ORIGINAL!?!??!?! IT MUST BE A DIRECT ONE TO ONE RIPOFF OF ANOTHER GAME EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE EXECUTED COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY!!!!"
hey tony and mcpig really do not appreciate comparisons like that im glad you enjoyed the game though and gave your honest opinions ! however these guys worked so hard at their own games on their own time and are vastly different titles ! they share a same passion and keep good graces with each other so please dont pit these two guys together . you can always map the controllers to your liking or join the discord for anything ! the team is always looking out for criticism and what not . i wont say much but thats all ! thanks for the words !
If you're gonna talk about Antonblast, please don't immediately compare it to Pizza Tower. Both games are inspired by Wario Land 4, but each one focuses on a key aspect of the franchise that makes both games stand out from each other.
Evil Foekoe be like: *Antonblast may on the surface appear to be a copy of Pizza Tower, but it is a vastly different game when you look deeper. Allow me to explain what I like about this game, as well as some fair criticisms based on its own merits and not comparing it to Pizza Tower.*
Honestly, that ANTONBLAST section was just unfair, the whole thing just comes down to a "skill issue"(and I hate using that buzzword)You can cancel the hammer clutch by hitting the button twice in the air or by holding the crouch button to make it go down faster. The trash goblins are easy to catch when you corner them, just jump when they jump and it's done,Pinball mire is chaotic, sure. But other than that i don't get what you're upset about???Also you just didn't elaborate on how the bosses weren't fun, they're far better than Pizza Tower's bosses in quality.(Also also, the game began development before Pizza Tower)
Yeah he didnt cook at all honestly he needs to make a proper review video because what i got from this is pizza tower better. I really want to understand his problems because he praised nothing about the game and just yap about his problems and pizza tower the entire time.
>play these indie games instead >spends a good chunk of the Antonblast segment complaining about game design they don’t understand If you are struggling THIS badly with Antonblast then you’re actually just expecting a hard game to hold your hand.
Great video but damn, while mouthwashing and ufo 50 recieved fair discussion, half of the antonblast review was just "pizza tower did it better" with a heavy focus on its flaws rather than what makes the game good
Honestly, I feel that AntonBlast really does a good job at being distinct from Pizza Tower. They are similar, but are hardly the same. Pizza Tower is somewhat faster paced than AntonBlast. You pass pretty much everything as you pass through the level, so you don't miss too much. AntonBlast on the other hand has goodies shoved into every nook and cranny. This game really encourages exploration. This is literally shown to you the moment you start the first level, since if you do a hammer jump on where you land when you start broiler city, you reveal a bounce pad to launch you back into Anton's house. I would also say AntonBlast is a bit more brutal in terms of the escape sequence. Pizza tower gives you tons of time so you can do all the stuff like secrets, lap 2 and leaves room for error. Anton blast gives you quite a bit of time, but considering how big the levels are, that can be brutal. That, and it can also limit backtracking quite a bit. Pizza tower sometimes just straight up let's you back track through the entire level either manually or with lap 2. In AntonBlast, most times have one shot to get things during Happy Hour to get collectables or you miss them due to the area getting destroyed or becoming inaccessible to you. Not to mention how AntonBlast honestly requires you to be a bit more careful and think about more than Pizza Tower. In Pizza Tower, you kind of just charge through everything like a bullet train in the midst of a panic attack. While Anton can charge through everything like Peppino, he actually can't hold his boost. If Anton doesn't have his boost button spammed, he won't run as fast as he can. That, and while Peppino gains speed over time, Anton gets speed from timing his boosts. Not to mention that Anton can actually be hurt. Unlike Peppino, getting hit can actually get you killed. In Pizza Tower, Peppino had unlimited heath in normal levels, with getting hit only lowering your combo and point count. In AntonBlast, Anton can actually die in levels, which encourages you to be more careful instead of charging in headfirst. And while I know that wouldn't make sense in a game where you are meant to just bash into everything, but without stuff like this, the game can become boring and mind numbing. Pizza Tower avoids this since it mixes things up with power ups that switch up gameplay, new foes who can counter your skills and make you think of more effective ways to fight them, and levels that just straight up take gameplay and flip on it's head such as GOLF, Don't Make A Souund, Gnome Forest, ect. Overall, I would say that AntonBlast does a great job at what it wants to do. It may have issues, but they're still pretty niche, which I feel says a lot about this games quality.
for a guy who makes a living off talking about indie games it’d expect you to respect antonblast as its own thing instead of the entire section basically boiling down to ”this is like pizza tower but not”
Hey that Antonblast part is not great you spend more time talking about Pizza Tower than Anton blast. Were Antonblast plays alot more closely to Wario land 4
3:24 If you liked Moutwashing you should definetly check out it's prequel: How Fish is made (by the same devs). It's weird and trippy as hell and I recommend it if you like weird ass games
The AntonBlast section is horridly made, it literally has NOTHING to do with Pizza Tower and you talk about it for the whole section when it is about AntonBlast. It feels disingenuous to the devs who worked on it.
Overall the time spent talking about antonblast was longer than pizza tower and comparing the two games is completely valid imo, as they both have a wacky cartoon art style fast paced, messy and wario land 4 inspired.
@tubemash3772 > comparing the two games is completely valid imo Not. Both to take surface level inspiration from WL4 but they are nothing alike comparing both is like comparing apples 2 oranges. > as they both have a wacky cartoon art style fast paced, messy and wario land 4 inspired That is a horrible way of comparing both and that only shows how both are nothing alike. Pizza Tower goes for a more Rubber Rose Style with modern Elements while AntonBlast style is 90s Saturday cartoon style. > fast paced, messy and wario land 4 inspired. Being fast paced and take inspiration WL4 does not equal pizza tower. Pizza Tower is more like a love letter to WL4 while AntonBlast feels more like a straight up sequel > Overall the time spent talking about antonblast was longer than pizza tower me when i make video about antonblast and only mention pizza tower through the whole thing:
@@dachel683 Exactly! I’m pretty sure it’s a known fact that Pizza Tower’s artstyle is based off of 90’s cartoons. And honestly, the only elements of a rubber hose-ish style can only be seen with Pizzahead, cuz I’m pretty sure that Pizzahead is supposed to be based off of a rubber-hose character.
Okay im fucking sorry but can people stop comparing Antonblast to pizza tower? THEY ARE DIFFFERENT GODDAMN GAMES. just cause they are both based of the same thing doesn’t mean they are automatically comparable! They are both peak. There is no need for this
I played a bit of Antonblast, is good, but dont compare it to Pizza Tower (Sonic + Wario) this is Crash + Wario, its good in its own different way, so full of life and expressions, so much variety, i recomend you all give it a try, the dev is a sweetheart of a person and its working hard to fix a crash on Switch, that aside he keeps marketing the game and sometimes gives free keys, tell others about the game, give others keys of the game SUPPORT PASSIONATED DEVS
Pizza Tower isnt Sonic + Wario The only sonic inspired things in PT are the slopes and the sewers level The speed aspect is based on jazz jackrabbit instead
Who clicked on this video because Antonblast was on it? Too bad it was nothing but slander, comparing this game to Pizza Tower, and recommending it without giving valid reasons. It felt more like he was reviewing Pizza Tower than Antonblast when they give way more different experiences. He doesn't even mention the story, which is simple, but still likable! Hell, there's little to no references to PT in Antonblast! The only one I can think of is that getting CRACKED is like getting a P-rank. I haven't played PT, but I have played Antonblast and beat the main game and am on my way to 100% it. The other to reviews were alright, but the Antonblast part was just slander. Edited: Okay he just apologized, and thank God he did. Also those who want to look into the replies section of my comment, the replies will contain massive spoilers for both Pizza Tower and Antonblast.
I know! He just mentioned the basic rule of every level. “Reach the end to activate Happy Hour” Anyone could have seen that in the Steam or Nintendo page, and he didn’t even mention the story at all. The Antonblast review was filled with Pizza Tower
@@zackie8172 The story alone is entirely different. Pizza Tower is where Peppino Spaghetti must stop Pizzaface from blowing up his restaurant with high speed and getting good ranks on levels. Antonblast is where Dynamite Anton and Dynamite Annie must get back Anton’s stolen spirits with the clutch boost and crashing through obstacles. This will be the worst critic or review of Antonblast I will ever see in my life.
@@zackie8172 Peppino uses Mach to gain speed and rush through the level and back. He does this by not stopping to get faster and faster. Anton or Annie uses clutch boosts to gain speed and crash through obstacles. They do this with timing to gain boosts. In order to do good on Pizza Tower levels, you need to collect all the toppings, all the secrets, the treasure, and can’t let the combo drop. To do good on an Antonblast level, you need to simply survive until you reach Happy Hour, and when you reach the elevator. Getting collectibles in those levels is completely optional.
@@goosebumpsfandamian1887 Even the bosses are different! Pepperman is sort of like a tutorial boss, while Brawlbuster just sends you into the action right off the bat. The boss busters have unique gimmicks to them as opposed to PT where you dodge attacks mostly near the ground and wait for the enemy to become vulnerable, and they all feel the same, as opposed to the bosses in Antonblast, which have different ways of hurting them and using different gimmicks. And the boss busters are only mini bosses. The full-on bosses are pretty much like Cuphead bosses where they have multiple phases that are different to each other. You can also attack them most of the time, but they have big health bars compared to the boss busters and PT's bosses. No boss in Antonblast is the same.
The thing I’m sort of sad about the Antonblast reviews is that people continue to try to fit a square peg in a round hole with the comparisons. Besides sharing an inspiration and a few mechanics, Pizza Tower and the Blast don’t share much, with the former on speed, sonic style, and the latter on exploration and destruction, crash style. It wasn’t really necessary to mention the pizza as much besides for the first few jokes. Also, some of the complaints, such as the clutch and hammer being mapped to the same button, and the massive amount of destruction on screen are sort of the point, so I don’t exactly know how you would “fix” it. Mastering it is intended. But yeah, pinball mire and those trash goblins can go to hell.
Another one to add I'd say would be Laika: Aged Through Blood. It was made by the guys who did Friends vs Friends. It's a Metroidvania where you ride around on a bike and have to reload by doing backflips on it. The music, story, charecters are all so surprisingly filled with so much depth for how "simple" the gameplay is. Lord knows it had me crying by the end of it.
@MAZSideStuff oh, its fuckin awesome alright. It's just also emotionally devastating on top of that (which makes it even better depending on who you ask lol)
@@who_be_dis8356 Nah I've played depressing games to the point I became emotionally null to them due to my high expectations that resulted from fans' exaggerated impressions/opinions lol
I agree that AntonBlast has a few issues (I play on Switch and the slowdown on launch was pretty yikes), but comparing it to Pizza Tower when both games have differing objectives is a tad disingenuous. AntonBlast isn’t trying to BE Pizza Tower or Wario Land 4, it’s trying to be its own combat-based take on Crash Bandicoot, DKCR, and Wario Land 3/4. Pizza Tower focuses moreso on the speed whereas AntonBlast focuses moreso on the exploration aspects and destruction of the level. Not mentioning the incredible mixed media employed via some of the characters and bosses is especially a miss. I do agree though Pinball Mire is not my favorite level by a longshot, and the hammer flip does trip me up often but I’ve been learning to better control it as I’ve progressed. I like doing clean 100% sweeps of levels and am a huge fan of red/chartreuse so it’s right up my alley personally. I highly recommend it to anybody reading this if only so you can experience Big Bath for the first time.
Joycon drift is still very much a thing. I learned that from how long it took me on Cinnamon springs (the moving platforms), Tallbuster’s fight (I fell into the water at the very end like 3 times and died), and the Mysterious Glasshouse (pretty much everything in this level is an ordeal)
I think that people have been spoiled by Pizza Tower when it comes to Wario-Land likes. Pizza Tower is more focused on speed and holds your hand, however Antonblast is more focused on puzzles and expects more out of you. This is what makes people compare it to Pizza Tower so much and dislike it. The fact a quarter of the Antonblast part was devoted to Pizza Tower is sad lmao
Honestly I'm with everyone here, your segment on Antonblsat was just mid, it felt less like a review about AntonBlast but more like you were just talking about Pizza Tower again for the fifth or sixth time. I'd say its best you try a different approach or mindset when playing or reviewing Antonblast to give a less biased review.
One thing i agree about Antonblast is that, sometimes, the movement feels a bit too slippery (The Antithesis room in Hell's manor is the bane of my existence). The rest is a skill issue
I dislike how you spend most of the Antonblast portion talking about Pizza Tower and talking about things Pizza Tower did that Antonblast doesn’t and because of that, pushing Antonblast down for something it did not do wrong… *Pinball Mire is not that bad*
Gaming isnt "dead" or "boring" people are just dead bored by AAA games (most of them are actually good to point to) for the rest of my life ive seen myself only playing indie titles and loving it. To the point i 100% them.
Any indie games that you would want to recommend and see be more talked about? For me it's stuff like: Cookie Cutter, Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Loco Motive, Immortal: And the Death that Follows, Magenta Horizon, Kraino Rebirth, Zet Zillions, Genokids, My Familiar, Decline's Drops, PRIM, Ruffy and the Riverside, The Midnight Walk, Judero, Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, Bad Boro, Promise Mascot Agency, Resistor, No Straight Roads, Soulstice... and there's so many more cool ones. Admittedly there's a few that are more on the level of AA-- Soulstice for example makes me think of Darksiders in production value and is in the same genre of character action/hack-and-slash. And it's no less worth talking about like the others. Hope this list gives some interesting titles for you!
@jurtheorc8117 I'll try and grab some of them when a good steam sale comes. But for more games I would absolutely recommend and wanted to be more talked about are definitely Cuphead Neon abyss (this one especially) Pizza tower
I played one AAA (Sekiro) and a lot of indie games in the span of... 4 years lol There are a few AAA I wanna play though but they clearly don't give a shit about storage space or optimization for me to play them with stable FPS It'll take years for me to upgrade my PC
Twitter's having a field day with this huh? Buut... Yeeaah I gotta agree the comparison between Antonblast and Pizza Tower is very unfair so I can't blame them. I think viewing the game in the lens of Pizza Tower will obviously not end well, considering the two take a very different approach in the formula of Wario Land 4. I recommend viewing the game in the Crash Bandicoot lens with time mechanics rather than Pizza Tower itself, it'll give a much more worthwhile experience imo.
To anyone who sees this, I would recommend trying out CULTIC, a horror-themed fps inspired by RE4 and Dark Forces, where you play as a police detective fighting against a cult whose members are dressed in hooded robes and armed with guns. It features retro-style graphics, but has aspects from more modern games such as physics props and set-pieces similar to Half Life. Gameplay is pretty solid and designed to be fair, with enemy attacks being clearly telegraphed for example. The game's arsenal features vintage weapons like a Mauser C96 and a China Lake. The soundtrack is John Carpenter-esque, and there's even a level (Interlude) that is similar in premise to John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13. If you're unsure that you'd like it, CULTIC has a free demo that lets you play the first level.
Thanks for talking about UFO 50, my game of the decade. I dedicated a good portion of my life to telling people how awesome it is (and running the community Discord), so it's very validating to see it so beloved by people. Fantastic video, Foekoe!
Bro going into AntonBlast and expecting Pizza Tower is kinda crazy ngl. Also I don't think Big Bath was even based on the backrooms, it was more based on "MyHouse.WAD" a doom mod.
@@HIMB13 it was a little sad really seeing my favorite youtuber pretty much slander this game for a good 5 minutes and just compare it to pizza tower the whole review boils down to "this game is alright, pizza tower better" another thing that pissed me off far more than it should was that 3/4 of the background music from the section was from pizza tower, like cmon man

I hate that you just kept comparing Antonblast to Pizza Tower. These two games couldn't be more different from each other. Antonblast leans more into Crash games, while Pizza Tower leans towards Wario Land games. The only thing that makes them similar is the fact that they require you to backtrack to the start to finish the level and that they have transformations. Also it makes you sound like an entitled brat when you said "multiple delays" when the game only really had 1 delay and it was because they were in the middle of a hurricane dude. Pay some respect. The other delay being specifically for the Switch version since that was still in the process of being approved. I usually like your content, but man this was just not it. The whole Antonblast review just felt rushed in general. I hope you take the criticism others are saying and apply it to your next video.
Hey, thanks to one of your previous indie-game highlights, i actually got Roboquest. And when you said it was genuinely fun, you MEANT IT. Keep this greenlighting up!
"multiple delays on antonblast" It was delayed 1 single time because of a huge hurricane happening in the developers country, also calling it pizza tower 2 is straight up calling omori undertale 2 bc both took inspiration in the same game
Hate to be that one guy but the game was originally planned for 2022 then get delayed to 2023, and then eventually 2024, it was suppose to come out November 12, then went to December 3rd, the switch port got delayed to December 13th
with the antonblast section, i really think it comes down to if you prefer the more polished and sligtly slower gameplay of antonblast or the straight speed of pizza tower. i found antonblast to be MUCH more fun than pizza tower, and you should have given the bosses more credit.
Having played Antonblast as well, I get a sense that the game was mostly playtested by its own developers and not other people. The few levels the public did get to play in the forms of the free demos improved significantly in the final release, especially the first level, the clutter was way worse in the first demo. So clearly they listen to feedback well, they just needed more opportunities to get it. As a game dev you become very familiar with your own game, so in playtesting it you may not notice issues like clutter, difficulty spikes or poorly pace tutorials.
While I haven't gotten my degree yet, I can validate this claim. Tunnel Vision is a very real thing when developing games and often times you need another lens to look through when it comes to designing stuff within your game.
Honestly you were too harsh on Antonblast in this one. It's not trying to be Pizza Tower, it just happens to take inspiration from the same game, just taking it in a different direction Also Pinball Mire isn't that bad
It's still absolutely bonkers that UFO 50 even exists. Like, 6 people just sat down and were like "let's just make Action 52, but good". Some games try to make you spend a shit ton of money on in game crap. These guys come out and decided to release 50 fucking game for like $25. Not even a dollar per game. Absolute legends.
Can strongly recommend looking into other indie and smaller dev stuff too, like: Cookie Cutter, Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Loco Motive, Immortal: And the Death that Follows, Magenta Horizon, Kraino Rebirth, Zet Zillions, Genokids, My Familiar, Decline's Drops, PRIM, Ruffy and the Riverside, The Midnight Walk, Judero, Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, Bad Boro, No Straight Roads... and there's so many more cool ones.
@@jayjar1376 DK WEST, DK WEST, HE'S OUR MAN OH HE'S THE BEST Good to see other NSR fans here! Have any of the games i mentioned here caught your attention? I reckon My Familiar, Decline's Drops and Genokids could be up your alley. Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Cookie Cutter and Loco Motive are some of my favourites. And Immortal: And the Death that Follows as well as The Midnight Walk are ones i'm looking much forward to. (fair warning, Cookie has *awesome* art style and direction, but it can be provocative and out-there. )
honestly its not even pinball mire that is the issue, the actual issue is the pinball mechanic, if it didnt exist or were to be remade, the level would be so much more enjoyable
Kinda funny seeing people dunk on this guy for being bad at Antonblast. A lot of issues he brings up can simply be fixed with practice and level memorization. Antonblast actually reminds me a lot of Cuphead in that they draw heavily from the more challenging routes of their inspirations. Anton specifically reminded me a lot of Crash Bandicoot in how it's levels and platforming require precision and timing in order to keep your speed going, which in turn take a lot of skill to get consistently good at. He's really trying to play the game as though it were "Pizza Tower 2" or something, which is not how you should really be playing. You'll only be setting yourself up for disappointment like that because, well, ANTONBLAST IS NOTHING LIKE PIZZA TOWER. And the face-slap comparisons he made to Pizza Tower were just frustrating and hard to watch. Put some respect on Antonblast and all the unique ideas and gameplay that it has to offer, instead of trying to view it in the lenses of a game which is completely different in the goals it sets out to achieve. Good video, I enjoyed the writing and editing, but oh boy, the Anton segment was strange!
I love how almost *none* of the comments on this video are about the other 2 games, but are instead (rightfully) bashing the Antonblast segment. I'm not going to repeat what other people have already said, I'll just say this: it's _wild_ that you said most of the bosses aren't fun to play when they're one of the best parts of the game for me. I can understand not liking most of the Bossbusters, but the main bosses are so much fun.
oh boy twitter drama!!! i haven’t finished antonblast at the moment though i do agree with a lot of that section, but comparing it to pizza tower so heavily was a little lame, reminds me of that original nine sols video title a bit i mean obviously it’s relevant because they’re both cut from the same cloth, and i’m not trying to say it was meant in bad faith and that you’re EVIL for thinking they’re similar, but it does kinda do the game a disservice by comparing it to something people are more familiar with and saying that it’s basically that both games have their own issues and such direct comparisons kinda muddies the water on how detrimental some of those issues are to its differed formula, i’d personally say that pizza tower also has annoying slippery precise platforming sections, it’s just that you feel it with a few of the transformations instead of on a few janky platforms while doing vertical platforming anyway i don’t really have some pretentious way to end this really long comment that nobody is gonna read, i’m not really mad or anything i was just trying to articulate the reason to why i think direct game comparisons can be interpreted in an unfair way sometimes, so now you can go on with your life with the newfound knowledge of some random guy’s two cents i guess
Another indie game I’d like to recommend to y’all is Spooky’s Jumpscare Mansion! It’s one of my favorite games of all time (and it doesn’t actually have many jumpscares, though it IS scary, so be warned). For those who don’t know, that Roblox “doors” game takes a BUNCH of inspiration from spooky, so if you liked that game, I’d STRONGLY suggest playing it
The visual clutter in Antonblast really makes it hard for me to play. My brain just will randomly lose track of where I am. Never had that issue with Pizza Tower.
thats why i sometimes (mostly on sales) go into the steam shop completely blind, trying out eye-catching titles to find hidden gems (thats how i discovered kinitopet, death must die and everhood for myself) and to this day i dont regret a single penny spent on all of my games cause of this practice.
Would you be up for other recommendations? There's stuff like: Cookie Cutter, Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Loco Motive, Immortal: And the Death that Follows, Magenta Horizon, Kraino Rebirth, Zet Zillions, Genokids, My Familiar, Decline's Drops, PRIM, Ruffy and the Riverside, The Midnight Walk, Judero, Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, Bad Boro, No Straight Roads... and there's so many more cool ones.
@@jurtheorc8117 some of them are actually on my wishlist (genokids and bad boro). Ruffy, immortal and midnight walk are looking pretty dope, I will try them out when they come out. Thanks for the recommendations!
Hey Foekoe, I want so say, that Im trying to make an indie called Pecto, which means cards in latin, based around the gimmick that your cards are you health, damage, artifacts and money. It will probably suck and be an absolutely mediocer game with absolutely nothing to talk about, but yk, im gonna try it anyway. Oh and I also think you should make a essay on Risk of Rain 2 and the whole series in general and complain about gearboxes slop. Love the content!
Antonblast is really fun but holy Hell The Mysterious Glasshouse is painful to complete. The leaves, the angel mechanic, and that fish, and those FREAKING THORNS are an ordeal to go through.
Time for 2 sentence horror guys! "I wonder what he has to say about AntonBlast!" I wondered. Then, I witnessed the absolute horror of badly made reviews.
He foreshadowed his opinion with that beggining honestly, i wonder what mc pig and summit would think about his review of the game? I wish someone send it to mcpig lol
Huh... UFO 50 sort of reminds me of an old, unlicensed NES game called Action 52, which has... 52 games. Difference is, the latter is basiclly worse in every single way compared to UFO 50. I never heard of it, but now I want to play it someday, sounds extremely enjoyable
EDIT:
I made a second channel response video regarding the Antonblast criticism that I received: ua-cam.com/video/PLxIQgau0Mc/v-deo.html
I also re-edited the review regarding said criticism: ua-cam.com/video/9IqNL3Og9C8/v-deo.html
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Regarding the Antonblast segment of the video, it seems like a lot of mega fans of the game took it to heart, which I can respect.
FoeKoe do you fr my channel
@@Dusterr the problem with said problems are that they are kinda similar in pizza tower, for example:

the "i cant see what the hell is happening here" is like trying to go mach 4 for the first time in PT (but i have to agree that you cant see anything in the blimp section of antonblast)
at the end of the day both games are really different and i think the problem most of the people had is the unfair comparison
bro made a video about recommending games to people and all he did for AntonBlast was complain that it wasn't Pizza Tower for it's entire segment.

Both are based on the same concept but each one choose to land on only one aspect of the based game.

A- he mentioned that both games are inspired by the same game.
B-he mentioned that both games are similar
So, a + b = his argument is that it's pizza tower 2
That was less of a point and more of a comparison to link the games together. The two games are constantly being compared because of similar gameplay by the fans, but when someone points out the flaws in the game, they refute it because of an unimportant point 💔
This is just pure, no doubt in my mind, nutpicking fallacy 😔

Going into Antonblast already comparing into Pizza Tower feels kind of disingenuous. Yes, they are similar and share influences, but theyre still such different games that going in with those expectations feels like you're setting it up to be underwhelming.
Also, Pinball Mire slander is ridiculous, it's SERIOUSLY not that bad.
it is very irritating having to hear Antonblast being compared to Pizza Tower over and over again when the similarities are surface level at best
For me, Pinball Mire really improved on a second playthrough, I actually quite enjoy it now
To me, Pizza Tower is more Sonic than WarioLand 4. Antonblast feels like WarioLand 4.

Helo funny cat man

I absolutely hate Pinball Mire and like Cinnamon Springs, personally.
That segment sucked, though. Especially the part where he said that the bosses weren't fun to play against. Like, what? The bosses are one of the best parts of the game, imo!
I can do all platforming segments in Antonblast flawlessly now unless I try to get fancy and skippy with the hammer bounce. I still after 18 hours still have quite an issue with accidentally hammer bouncing, it's the biggest problem with the game and needs a separate button option.

antonblast is hard and rewarding
FACTS
Antonblast is more so variable pacing tbh
for a guy who makes a living off talking about indie games it’d expect you to respect antonblast as its own thing instead of the entire section basically boiling down to ”this is like pizza tower but not”

Not. Both to take surface level inspiration from WL4 but they are nothing alike comparing both is like comparing apples 2 oranges.
> as they both have a wacky cartoon art style fast paced, messy and wario land 4 inspired
That is a horrible way of comparing both and that only shows how both are nothing alike. Pizza Tower goes for a more Rubber Rose Style with modern Elements while AntonBlast style is 90s Saturday cartoon style.
> fast paced, messy and wario land 4 inspired.
Being fast paced and take inspiration WL4 does not equal pizza tower. Pizza Tower is more like a love letter to WL4 while AntonBlast feels more like a straight up sequel

Pizza Tower isnt Sonic + Wario
The only sonic inspired things in PT are the slopes and the sewers level
The speed aspect is based on jazz jackrabbit instead
Anton Blast has way more variety, setpieces and gimmicks in every single level, like way more, I don’t understand how he thinks they are similar
Pizza Tower is more so jazz jackrabbit style than sonic
Also antonblast doesnt have much exploration

“how can I make this about pizza tower”
foekoe in every video: puts image of the pizza tower shop image or what you call it or he full on talks about it
Honestly I'm with everyone here, your segment on Antonblsat was just mid, it felt less like a review about AntonBlast but more like you were just talking about Pizza Tower again for the fifth or sixth time. I'd say its best you try a different approach or mindset when playing or reviewing Antonblast to give a less biased review.
That antonblast section will forever be a stain to this goated video
One thing i agree about Antonblast is that, sometimes, the movement feels a bit too slippery (The Antithesis room in Hell's manor is the bane of my existence).
The rest is a skill issue
I dislike how you spend most of the Antonblast portion talking about Pizza Tower and talking about things Pizza Tower did that Antonblast doesn’t and because of that, pushing Antonblast down for something it did not do wrong…
*Pinball Mire is not that bad*
Gaming isnt "dead" or "boring" people are just dead bored by AAA games (most of them are actually good to point to) for the rest of my life ive seen myself only playing indie titles and loving it. To the point i 100% them.
Any indie games that you would want to recommend and see be more talked about?
For me it's stuff like:
Cookie Cutter, Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Loco Motive, Immortal: And the Death that Follows, Magenta Horizon, Kraino Rebirth, Zet Zillions, Genokids, My Familiar, Decline's Drops, PRIM, Ruffy and the Riverside, The Midnight Walk, Judero, Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, Bad Boro, Promise Mascot Agency, Resistor, No Straight Roads, Soulstice... and there's so many more cool ones.
But for more games I would absolutely recommend and wanted to be more talked about are definitely
Cuphead
Neon abyss (this one especially)
Pizza tower
I played one AAA (Sekiro) and a lot of indie games in the span of... 4 years lol
There are a few AAA I wanna play though but they clearly don't give a shit about storage space or optimization for me to play them with stable FPS
It'll take years for me to upgrade my PC
@MAZSideStuff or..... try older AAA games that are 100% better and more optimised. But beside that sekiro is really cool good choice
@@8lackmore I think I've played enough older AAA games because I played nothing but those when I was way younger

Be carefull with your words mr. Foekoe
the antonblast section very much shows you've never played wario land 4 lmao
Twitter's having a field day with this huh?
Buut... Yeeaah I gotta agree the comparison between Antonblast and Pizza Tower is very unfair so I can't blame them.
I think viewing the game in the lens of Pizza Tower will obviously not end well, considering the two take a very different approach in the formula of Wario Land 4.
I recommend viewing the game in the Crash Bandicoot lens with time mechanics rather than Pizza Tower itself, it'll give a much more worthwhile experience imo.
It would be better to see the game as its own thing

Nah i'd say that antonblast leans into crash and pizza tower leans into jazz jackrabbit
Since the wario land aspect is what they have in common
Hey, thanks to one of your previous indie-game highlights, i actually got Roboquest. And when you said it was genuinely fun, you MEANT IT.
Keep this greenlighting up!
"multiple delays on antonblast"
It was delayed 1 single time because of a huge hurricane happening in the developers country, also calling it pizza tower 2 is straight up calling omori undertale 2 bc both took inspiration in the same game
Hate to be that one guy but the game was originally planned for 2022 then get delayed to 2023, and then eventually 2024, it was suppose to come out November 12, then went to December 3rd, the switch port got delayed to December 13th
To be honest at first i thought the you were making one big joke during the Antonblast section of the video but oh you were dead serious...
with the antonblast section, i really think it comes down to if you prefer the more polished and sligtly slower gameplay of antonblast or the straight speed of pizza tower. i found antonblast to be MUCH more fun than pizza tower, and you should have given the bosses more credit.
Having played Antonblast as well, I get a sense that the game was mostly
playtested by its own developers and not other people.
TF2 youtuber spotted 🗣🔊🗣🔊🗣🔊
While I haven't gotten my degree yet, I can validate this claim. Tunnel Vision is a very real thing when developing games and often times you need another lens to look through when it comes to designing stuff within your game.
Real
Honestly you were too harsh on Antonblast in this one. It's not trying to be Pizza Tower, it just happens to take inspiration from the same game, just taking it in a different direction
Also Pinball Mire isn't that bad
It's still absolutely bonkers that UFO 50 even exists. Like, 6 people just sat down and were like "let's just make Action 52, but good". Some games try to make you spend a shit ton of money on in game crap. These guys come out and decided to release 50 fucking game for like $25. Not even a dollar per game. Absolute legends.
I still cant find a single antonblast review that doesnt have comparison with pizza tower

Pinball mire slander will NOT be tolerated... it really isnt that bad
honestly its not even pinball mire that is the issue, the actual issue is the pinball mechanic, if it didnt exist or were to be remade, the level would be so much more enjoyable
pinball mire is mid
Its bad but at least is not mad mall levels of bad

@guilhermenascimento9125 i like mad mall honestly, judge me if you want, but i just think that its concept, at least, is fun, idk, i just like it
No Anton blast is not SLOP
bro wtf is that pyrocynical jumpscare
My guy plays videogames 57 hours per day and I'm all for it
Glad to see someone talk about UFO 50. I feel like that game is getting no attention at all for how ridiculous it is
oh boy twitter drama!!!
i haven’t finished antonblast at the moment though i do agree with a lot of that section, but comparing it to pizza tower so heavily was a little lame, reminds me of that original nine sols video title a bit
i mean obviously it’s relevant because they’re both cut from the same cloth, and i’m not trying to say it was meant in bad faith and that you’re EVIL for thinking they’re similar, but it does kinda do the game a disservice by comparing it to something people are more familiar with and saying that it’s basically that
both games have their own issues and such direct comparisons kinda muddies the water on how detrimental some of those issues are to its differed formula, i’d personally say that pizza tower also has annoying slippery precise platforming sections, it’s just that you feel it with a few of the transformations instead of on a few janky platforms while doing vertical platforming
anyway i don’t really have some pretentious way to end this really long comment that nobody is gonna read, i’m not really mad or anything i was just trying to articulate the reason to why i think direct game comparisons can be interpreted in an unfair way sometimes, so now you can go on with your life with the newfound knowledge of some random guy’s two cents i guess
Best christmas present he could have given us! Merry christmas Foekoe and everyone else!
18:10 i dont care what you say, terraria will always be peak
Foekoe also loves Terraria, it’s just common for people to have it and never play it or just have it with like just three other games
