  • First part of my "Learn Finnish Verbs" Series!
    Ok so in the video I said I would do the first 3 verb conjugation forms: minä, sinä & hän - HOWEVER the first bit was already so long that knowing my computer I wouldn't have been able to render the other 2 without it crashing on me. SO I''ll have to cut it up into smaller sections after all xD
    ALSO I will only be talking about the type 1 verbs, because there are actually 5 different verb forms. To make things simpler I'm just giving examples from the most common category as a place to start :)
    So a summary of what a type 1 verb is defined as is the following:
    Verb type 1 is the most commonly used verb type. These types of verbs end in 2 vowels (-aa, -ea, -eä, -ia, -iä, -oa, -ua, -yä, -ää, -öä).
    (according to uusikielemme.fi )
    AND just in case there was any confusion: OLLA is not a type 1 verb, rather I used it as an example of the basic form of a verb which I realize now is confusing. So sorry about that!

    *CHANGE IN PLANS + SIDE NOTE*
    I said in the video this would be a two part series, but while editing I realized in order for my computer not to crash I have to further cut it up. This means in this video I'll only talk about the first conjugation (so the minä form) and the other two (sinä/hän) will be in my next video (that I'm currently editing!!)
    Thank you for understanding :)
    *ALSO* I said in the video this is the very basic verb conjucation - this means it refers to category type 1 verbs. (Yes, you heard that right, to make things more complicated there are 5 verb types! YIKES) but type 1 is the most common and the most basic one so a good place to start! Step by step folks ;)

      @@lianthony2983 the infinite or basic form she talks about is the stem with the 'infinite ending' a/ä
      seisoA
      but the stem here would be seiso where you can add up the endings.
      minä seison
      sinä seisot

    A great video; I am looking forward to the next sections. Using olla as an example is perhaps a bit confusing though because you didn't explain that it is irregular: minä olen, not minä olln! Also, please can you say the puhekieli forms as well like you used to do - eg. Mä oon etc. Thanks!

    • @AB_Archives
      @AB_Archives 6 років тому

      Olla isn't an irregular verb, olla is considered as a verbityyppi 3, every verb type conjugate differently. The video explains how to conjugate verbityyppi 1 in representative of Minä. I think olla is an example of stem verb not verbityyppi 1

    • @benfuller9009
      @benfuller9009 6 років тому

      Yes - what I meant was that Katya used olla as an example of an infinitive and then explained the conjugation of verb type 1: olla is introduced but not conjugated, so some might think that it is conjugated like type 1.

    • @KatChatsFinnish
      @KatChatsFinnish  6 років тому

    Good to see you, kiddo! The "basic" form of a verb in many languages is the "infinitive", like "to be", "to drive", etc. Some languages, like Bulgarian, do not have an infinitive, so another form of the verb has to be used as their basic, or dictionary entry, form. By the way, keep it up! You're a great teacher!

    Hei KatiChati
    I could not find out the finnish word for /please《/. HAVE A GOT THIS WORD IN FINNISH OR NOT?KIITOS PALLION

      We don’t have a direct word for please! You can make things sound more polite by adding -isi into it. For example: voisitko = could you, menisitkö = could you go, haluaisitko = do you want :)

    Its structure is very similar to Turkish actually.

      Turkish and Finnish are typologically very similar (they're both agglutinative). There are some theories that Finnish and Turkish are related, but most linguists don't believe this.

    • @oguzhantekden
      @oguzhantekden 4 роки тому

      @@harrycook9041 yeah I know theories and I believe them. Because Finnish and Turkish people are both Ural-Altai race and of course they are coming from the similar ancestors. Even some word are similar to each other.
      For instance: Men (Ben) = Mina, Sen = Sina
