1982 - me, my brother and my best mate, Eddie. Sitting around the kitchen table. My brother plays his beat-up guitar with a worn-out amp. Plays this solo to perfection. Thank you so much for this memory. 🙂
I think your tutorials are amazing. I’m 13 and only started playing guitar about 8 months ago and in the last couple of weeks, I have learnt wish you were here, bohemian rhapsody and now this. I have tried learning other stuff with different teachers on UA-cam but none of them are as good as you. Keep up the good work and please do the the guitar solo of sweet child o mine guns and roses. Thank you
If you’ve never picked up a guitar before and genuinely want to start playing Marty is hands down the best teacher on UA-cam. Sod the boring chords, I’ll learn them later, right now I want to sound cool 😎
I got to the end my neck hurts. My finger is hurt. I think my heart hurts. Thanks Marty I’ve learned untold songs by you from you. My mind is Swiss cheese right now now I gotta go back and play this thing and find out how much they forgot. Already back again. Love you buddy.
I came in here thinking,” I’m a beginner. I’ve set my mind to a playing “Wish You Were Here” and I did it. If I believe in myself I can do it!” Then I saw the intro...
Christian Lopez Put some 12s on there and your 10s will feel like nothing when you go back. Course your fingers won't work anymore and will be big sausage fingers but bending no problem. 😉😂
@@michaelrose7636 His 1956 goldtop had the bigsby, but the general consensus is that he used his 1955 goldtop (with no bigsby) on the Wall sessions. But yes, it's possible. Nobody really knows when he got the '56 with the bigsby.
Pink Floyd! This first part has always given me hell but watching Marty play it slowly I realized I was chasing the notes and playing with the wrong fingers. I always tend to learn easier with your videos, thank you Marty!
Picked up a guitar for the first time two weeks ago and I’m absolutely shocked on how easy Marty makes it to learn the tunes that I love, Having so much fun. Very grateful Much appreciated Marty thanks brother 🤙
Bass player for 35 years; some rhythm guitar, but never tried any solos. Starting with this one. My Strat has the tremelo locked down, so I have to move frets to do the big bends, but this is awesome. Thanks!
Marty-You are without a doubt the best guitar instructor on You tube, bar none ! Your lessons will even “tune up” an intermediate player ! ! ! ! You da man ! Thanks for everything
Thx Marty been meaning to learn this for about 30 years. Saved me a load of pain trying to work out. I think it’s one of the best solos of all time. Just pentatonics but so expressive and rhythmic its a mini master piece. I suspect most of this was improvised when he recorded it.
Hey Marty, great playing and you broke it down so it was very easy to follow. Doing all of those bends in slow mo isn’t easy. This solo really shows how much great music you can squeeze out of the minor pentatonic scale if you focus on phrasing and note choice Thanks for all off your efforts
Hey Marty thanks a lot. I play the guitar for several years and hear Pink Floyd since I was 9 (😳) but only now I decided to "let me sit down and learn the The Wall solo" and I found you. Great. thank you for making the solo clear. It's easy technically speaking but... if we don't get all the micro details that Gilmour does, the solo is dead. Well, thanks once more 🤟🎸
Could you try to teach us one of John Mayer's songs from the search for everything, like helpless, rosie, still feel like your man or moving on and getting over? Would appreciate. Great video as always!
Thank you Marty for this absolutely tutorial... I have no words... Only thank you so much because now thanks you i can play this legendary solo from Pink Floyd
AWESOME LESSON MARTY!!!!! LOVE PINK FLOYD LESSONS....you capture and explain a lot of the subtleties in the solo-slides, bends ,vibrato, and tone As a relative beginner I sure appreciate all the extreme detail and repetition in your lessons, its what I need,so thank you more pf PLEASE! there is a lot of teachers on line, but you are one of the absolute BEST. MY REQUST: mudmen solo off the album obscured by clouds THANK YOU
awesome training Marty. So appreciative of the patient effort you put in for the floyd fans who pick a guitar. Please also mention the gadgets you have used to get the tone and the levels you set them. Thanks
Wow, thank you so much, Marty! I may need to practice this quite a bit but there are many parts of this solo that I'll borrow for other lead work, superb stuff.
This solo is to me one of the hardest ever to get right, because it is so full of nuances. It is more difficult than it seems. I think that part of the reason is that Bob Ezrin manipulated the dry guitar sound in the mix, rather than recording the guitar through an amp. And then of course you had Gilmour playing his golden top Gibson Les Paul with single coil pickups for that great tone with a lot of natural sustain, and of course his signature perfect bends. Overall, it's a very difficult sound to mimic. I haven't heard anyone doing justice to the original. Not even Gilmour himself in his live renditions.
Gilmour once did say that it is impossible to perfectly get it like you recorded it because your playing at a particular time will capture your emotional state which is unique for that moment. He said when he recorded "Have a Cigar" he was particularly frustrated because of writer's block and set backs.
How can you have any pudding if you can't keep the beat? haha. I believe David Gilmore is the king of emotional string bending. Another excellent lesson!
Thanks Marty for a great lesson. I’ve been working on this for a couple of months and have finally sat down to a bowl of pudding! Keep up the great work !!
Marty I just got a new laptop, so the first thing I did was log into youtube and checked out this new video, mannnnnn seeing those fingers move off of something more than a phone is pretty damned rad, I'm also happy to have a much bigger screen to see you teach in ha ha. As always Marty, thank you for your hard work and dedication, Your the KING of youtube!!!
Finally decided to learn this, prolly my favorite solo of all of em, and yours was SO THANKFULLY the first one I came across. Super fun, and so well done. Thanks heaps. The cherry on top, however, was that when I made it all the way through, one of my other VERY FAVORITE solos, Stir It Up was suggested! I should go back and do this one, but I'm on to that one!
Marty I've said it , and will continue to yell it from the roof tops ! you are the best , perfect lesson !! just got it down last night, now the fun begins to tighten it up. from the bottom of my heart thank you !! thank you for your newsletter courses also!! , just awesome man! so happy for you and your project and will always support ...rock on!! -scott
Thank you very much, I learned this solo because of its excellent explanation, even though I don't speak English very well, I managed to understand perfectly.
Gilmour uses an interesting selection of string gauges on his Strat. He mixes 10 gauge , 9 gauge and 11 gauge strings sets - .010 high E, . then .012, .016, for B and G and .028, .038, .048 for D, A and low E. He uses 10.5, 13, 17, 30, 40, and 50 on his Gibson Les Paul with Bigsby trem.
Great tutorial. im finding it hard doing the step and a half on my 10 gauge strings, so I'm moving up a step on the fretboard, then doing a half step. When I change my strings I will be able to do it on lower gauge for sure. 8s or 9s

My b string is a war hero, unfortunately, high e didn't make it.
My string snapped too 😭😭😭
Lol
Dominik Gasiorowski damn what strings do you guys use lmao I use Ernie ball 9s and it’s never broken on me doing Gilmoure bends
Same
I bought a new set of strings to practice playing in David’s “bend heavy” style haha I hope that’s all I’ll need

ah very cool Peter!
marty we NEED more Pink Floyd!! can't wait to try this solo fam
he's right tho!!
Agreed!!!!
“fam”
Chris it’s been two years dawg
I agree but only British people can say fam
Eddie van Halen: God of tapping
David Gilmour: God of bending
And Iommi god of thrills
And phrasing. I love how this solo is like a weird little musical conversation.
And James Hetfield God of down stroking ( down picking).
kirk Hammet: God of Wah
Billie Joe Armstrong god of three chord monte
Hey Marty! teach those kids guitar!
Just outstanding, guitar teacher of the year hands down.

dont worry it comes with time. callouses required tho.
@@theinfamousbigslurp618 yup fuck callouses

Im good to go except for those hardcore bends :/ I really need to do some finger push ups
I think David Gilmour uses his whammy bar on some of those extra bends. He is a master of bend and whammy work.
Christian Lopez Put some 12s on there and your 10s will feel like nothing when you go back. Course your fingers won't work anymore and will be big sausage fingers but bending no problem. 😉😂

Some parts resemble improvising but I’d say it was worked out by then. Started its life as impro but ended polished. My guess
Amazing tutorial, just the right speed to learn along to! Much better than other videos I've seen as they don't explain everything in as much detail 👍
I've been watching you for 10 years Marty, thank you so much for all the lessons, you're awesome!
Wow, that demo sounds amazing Marty
Thanks so much!
Awesome! Time or high hopes would also be fantastic
So I got the riffs and fills down. Now it's time to learn this. Great job Marty!
Everyone associates Gilmore with a strat but he actually recorded this solo with a Les Paul gold top with p90s!!! Great job marty mart!!!
