The guitar solo in Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall is about feel, touch, tone and details, not only the notes! In this lesson / tutorial I went into those fine details, including how to replicate David Gilmour's tone in a DAW.
I've played shows in a Pink Floyd band for many years and here's my 10 secrets to play this solo like the original, including the mysterious impossible lick, one little mistake David made and how to replicate his outstanding tone.

Thanks for leaving your thoughts down in the comments!
David Gilmour was an absolute master of subtlety at blues guitar! The crafty nuances are things most guitarists never even give the time of day for decades of their playing!

JESUS THIS IS THE MOST ACCURATE HEARTFELT COVER ON THE NET
Thanks man 🎸🎸💛
This video is a true gold. Rediscovered another brick from scratch.
Finally!!! I'm in awe! :-) I actually even had the balls to play guitar in a Floyd tribute band some years ago, but now I`m just feeling slightly embarrassed, because I never really took the time to do it properly. Shame on me. THIS is how you do it. Its all in the details and nuances. Thank you!
Thanks man, ciao!

Great job Bert
What. A. Tutorial. Just stunning tone, playing and teaching. Easily the best ABITW I've found. I'm only at the end of Lick 9 and already I've broken *three* B strings, my fingers are a mess, my head is cooked, but it's sounding glorious and I'm in Pink Floyd heaven. Thank you, thank you.
Love to hear this, cheers
Great tutorial as usual! Regarding the wrong note, Gilmour told G. E. Smith that when he played the solo, he was only playing alongside the bass line. The keyboard chord progression with the Bb major was added later. So he knew about the mistake but since it wasn't glaring, it was kept.
That's a juicy detail thank you. I'm sure they felt it was a little unsettling, but with such a powerful solo they didn't care, and rightly so.
This is by far the best version of the solo and the best sound here on youtube. It's amazing, congrats man
Thank you Pierre appreciate that
Ive decided this is the solo im going to take seriously and get it down from begging to end. And i think Ive chosen the correct tutorial and tutor for the job. Thx so much for your time and effort . So hello from a new subscriber. My favorite guitarist of all time. Ive always said Gilmour can do more with one string than any other artist on the planet and the solos from Time, Comfortably Numb and this One are the best solos EVER! Or atleast on my top 5 along with Freebird and Stairway to Heaven. So rock on and here we go!
Thanks man, appreciate the thoughtful comment
Brilliant Alberto! You nailed it with all the nuance that make this solo so special.
The breakdown really helps. 👍
Thank you sir
Definitively the best tutorial about this solo. It gives really many hints to sound closest possible to the original one. Legends say that Gilmour played the solo fluently in a single take - actually the first - and then dubbed it to enrich it. However he did it, it's a magic sound that he and only he can do. In that song, that everyone should listen with high performance headphones, there are about 5 guitars playing. Genius!
Gilmour notoriously improvises a few takes, combines a best one and then often replays it to add intention and polish. Love the guy
The best one I've ever watched. You got it perfectly and that is very inspiring to me. Thank you 👍
Simply perfect! 😮😊
The best tutorial on this peerless solo. Its always alluded me in its detail but now I will give it a go- again!
Best tutorial on this amazing song
Cheers!
Finalmente! One of the best if not THE BEST solo lesson out there! Fantastic! Thanks
Thanks Paolo! 🎸
Perfeito! Parabéns pelo excelente trabalho!

Wow! So nice nuances! love the way
Thank you !
Best lesson!
Bravissimo Alberto! You have phenomenal ears seemingly able to discern infinite detail. I heard many covers of this solo but yours is the finest I am aware of.
That's very nice, thanks!
Finally someone that nails that little pinch harmonic at the end right before the very last lick to exit the solo... literally have seen NO ONE ELSE do it lol, was expecting the same here, but was surprised
Fuckin love this vid bro, I've studied the shit out of this solo and you have nailed it on the head
That’s killer man 👌🏻🎸
Nice Breakdown and very good playing of this super solo Alberto.
Thank you!
Thought i had this solo nailed down. Now i have to start from the very beginning again !
Superb tutorial Alberto,
Cheers !
Thanks, it's so deep right?
How to play "the right way"... that's a bold claim. You did not disappoint. This tutorial is easily the best I've seen. Than you.
🤫this is the best cover, there is no other, 👏well done Alberto lots of details and minute precision. it's magnificent.
Thanks a bunch 💛🎸
Absolutely perfect!!!
Thank you!
Awesome , Alberto it helps a lot from the audience if you point every string lick such as B13,G10 and so forth. I’m trying to learn this solo another brick in the wall . Thanks
I tuoi video "how to play" sono insuperabili! un vero Maestro!!!
Grazie Patrizio 🎸💛
Amazing!
Cheers loads for this - a brilliant tutorial. A friend has asked me to join his band to do a gig in 3 weeks (as their guitarist has fallen ill). This song is in their set. Cheers lads! - only the best guitar solo in the World. Thanks to you, I may just pass! I subscribed though too - it's about time I upped my game.
most accurate cover on youtube ! amazing lesson ! Thank you very much !
Thanks :)
Fantastic! Thankyou for all your Excellent hard work to make this video!
Thank you 💛💛
Gave me goose bumps. Bravo Alberto!!
Thanks Chris, appreciate 🙏
This is really great. Thank you.
Alberto gives golden details from the heart and soul. Great mate!!!
Thanks mate, I try!
I've been obsessed with this song ever since my cover band started playing it back in 2017. I learned the solo and the band liked it but it was pretty half assed to me. I've seen quite a few different takes on it but yours is the most in depth. I worked my fingers raw getting up to speed on it with this video. Awesome work I'm more inspired than ever to play this song and get the subtle nuances of this piece right rather than half assed. Thank you.
glad it helped, keep it up
WOW! such fantastic detail! gotta be the BEST video on this i have seen..perfect!
Thanks Dave.
dude you have the Best break downs and insights! great ear, and vidis.. i've played for 40 years and you, along with the Original artists themselves, have shown me the Correct way they played it. Super COOL. thank you man.
thanks Tim!
Amazing! I will watch this video over and over again. Thanks!
cheers
Bravissimo!!!
Il miglior video e tutorial esistente su UA-cam 👏👏👏
💛💛💛
man, I've seen dozens of this Cover. some very good. but yours is the best. You managed to capture the smallest details. You are big.
Thanks man, much appreciated
You've done it. No finer example of how to play this iconic track laid down by one of the best, if not THE best guitar player who ever lived. And you captured all the nuance, texture, and most importantly, the "attack", which most guitar players do not even appreciate, feel, or grasp. Watching your video was a joy. Especially the passion you demonstrated revealing each morsel that makes this lick so delicious to hear, and exciting to play. Your dedication to the tiniest details is unparalleled and produced the most authentic example of the greatest rock solo ever laid down. It was like watching a forensic scientist perform an autopsy. Just beautiful man. Thank you for that. Loved it!
Rich
One of the nicest comments on this channel, thank you Rich, really appreciate it.
Loved the detailing🎉
Cheers
Awesome video!
Thorough & well done, . . . bravo bravissimo!
Cheers my friend!
Thanks a lot for your tutorial. The best I have found.
Thank you!!
Amazing. Subscribed.
The best solo tutorial I have ever heard so far!!!
Thanks Eduardo
Iwas looking from you tube your the best tutorial of another brick in the wall. I’m trying to replicate your solo . ❤️👍 I love it . Thanks
Thanks, have fun
never has there been a solo that is such a masterclass on touch as this one
Yep
fantastic
Devil is in the details and you just summoned him ;) Thank you for sharing such a valuable information here. You will never read about such things in the books. You have a very good / picky ear for such details. We can take our amateur home playing to a different level. Thank You again !!!
Thank you Chuck, the devil says hi 😂💛
Dude, I closed my eyes and just listened to the solo intro and man have you got Gilmour's tone down!... I was lucky enough to meet him when he toured for his "About Face" solo album...Absoltely one of the kindest and most humble people I've ever met...He asked me and my friends with sincerity, if we liked the show and how the sound was and etc...Then he signed all our tickets...The man has gigantic hands...Anyway I thought I'd share that tidbit with you...thanks for doing these videos!
Thanks Walt, appreciated the tale! Love David.
OH MY GOD.. This is literally the secret, my playing this solo instantly become so much alive and better after watching your breakdown. So much making sense. Mine was lacking the 'oomph'' before. Now it's much much better. Thank you very much you're an unbelievable player!!
Thanks a lot.
Top Notch Alberto! As are your other works...much appreciated
Thanks!
Tone is perfect ❤
Wow! Great detail, great lesson. It’s going to take me a while, but I’m on board.💪🏻
Yes you gotta take your time with this, thank you!
Incredible tutorial. Congratulations
Thanks a lot!
Just discovered your channel and subscribed. Your attention to detail and feel is refreshing. Thank you.
Refreshing, thank you I like that!
Excellent !!
Cheers
Thank you!!!!👊🙌
The best ive seen !!!!!
Cheers
At 2:55, I can hear just what you mean ! At 9:45 I personally don't want to play this exactly the way it sounds because as you say it "Sounds like crap" I prefer to play the notes without muting them. To me it sounds much better and adds your own touch. I have to say that this is the best lesson I have seen for this song. By 19:55 we've probably had a few rums and missed one of the notes just a bit.
Rum’s a practice killer 😂
OMG Brilliant 👏
Fantastico Alberto, fantastico Maestro!!💛💛🎸🎸🎵🎵🎶🎶
Ciao Stef, questo è il solo di una vita!
I can tell only... Amazing!
Cheers
Was looking around for some info on this solo. None of the others come close to sounding as authentic or as good as this. Great stuff ! Subscribed 🍺
Thanks, cheers
Very, very interesting. David never striked me as a technical player, but rather very simple and pragmatic. That's why he's my favorite guitarist. Anyway, therefore, the mystery being an overdub makes a lot of sense.
He's awesome. Technical in his own way, but musical like few
Great to watch, grazie
cheers man
You actually tought me a lot, most guitar "lessons" on youtube are just a guy playing with the tabs on the bottom, wich is fine, but this is better. You and guitar lessons 365 are my favorite channels for learning guitar now on youtube.
Glad it helps cheers 🎸
Wicked! Love the grimaces too.
Part of the fun, right? Thank you
You play it perfectly!!
Thank you 🎸
Ciao Domenico
Gracias Alberto por la clase magistral
💛💛
I was a little confused when Alberto said 'Les Paul with nine strings', but them the penny dropped. Must be the best tutorial of this solo on the internet - thanks.
Thanks Stephen, yeah I was talking about the string gauge :D
me too - so much so i straight away looked at the head
Wow smashed it mate
cheers
Clicked on this video because of your guitar. I have what I assume is the same guitar, but in original condition. Mine is a 1974 Les Paul Re-issue of a 1955 model. Has black P90 pick-ups and a hard wrap-around tailpiece. Same tobacco sunburst finish on the solid mahogany slab body. Good video!
Ciao da Sacramento, California! Grazie Alberto per questa ed altre lezioni, sei il mio unico insegnante itliano :-)
Ciao marco, grazie! Bella Sacramento
Excellent! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👌🏻
Cheers
Alberto, you are amazing. 🤙👍
Thank you!
Bravo ragazzo ti saluto da Umago,Istra,Croatia
Superb, however i played this song for years, never really nailed the solo, but now... thank you
Cheers!
Great Tutorial.. Really appreciate note names over fret numbers and spending time on dynamics & pocket.
PS: Love the Pultec's. The last time I set eyes on one was in the 80s. Already vintage, we were renting a few until finally finding a couple. $3 or 4k per if memory serves.
Great machines.. today you’re lucky if you get one for 6k, if you find it! Thanks!
One of the best solo's of all fucking time.
Holy cow. Almost spot on.
😅I just recorded my first solo and it’s the wall, but I only bought my first e-guitar in December and it’s sooooo much different than what you play ....so, I guess I need to start new and learn it from you ! Sounds amazing ! Thanks for doing this tutorial ❣️
You can do it!
Hi Alberto. I've just "discovered" your channel on UA-cam, and I have to say that your tutorial is by far the best I've seen anywhere on this song. I look forward to checking out more of your videos! One thing that I think - (just my opinion and the way I'm hearing it) - is happening that you don't mention is a very short "rake" into the very first note of the solo, and it seems very obvious to me when you play it slowed down. Keep up the great work!
Hey Sean, thank you. Actually I only hear a bit of finger noises, no rake at the beginning..
Thank you so much for sharing this. Your ear is phenominal. I love this solo, and enjoy playing it most days, but not 5% so well as you play it, obviously. I will try to begin incorporating your insight into these great phrases. It will take me some time But that's fine, it is for my own pleasure. I think you have done a great job getting the guitar sound. Although I think that this solo can sound great with a number of different guitar tones. After all, David played it with his normal set up, on a les paul with P90s for the Albert Hall concert, but since then he has mostly played it on strats (black strat or red one with EMG's). I used to get really hung up on trying to spec my guitar like David's. I've a Strat with CS fat 50 neck, CS69 middle, SD SSL-5 bridge, Dyna Comp and Tube Screamer, but I've realised for some time that it is'nt the guitar or the equipment. It is how you play, it's in the dynamics and the feel. You show this perfectly with your playing. David Gilmour would sound like David Gilmour if he played a Gibson SG, and I would not sound like him at all if I played his black strat and full rig. So I try to play what sounds nice to me, and if I can manage to incorporate some of the insight from great players as yourself, then so much the better. So thanks again
Thanks Phil, you really got the purpose of these tutorials I’m doing. We try to understand why these people are so great, not to replicate their playing but to find our own path to our goals. Cheers!
"Please David call me" 🤣🤣
Eccezionale Alberto!!
And he didn’t call... yet! Grazie Daniele !
Absolutely amazing!! I though I had this solo down to a T, clearly not…back to the practice room🤣
Enjoy 😂💛
wow excellent attention to details. thank you so much for creating these videos but if I may mention one thing that if you could name the string and the notes you play when showing the licks it will be brilliant. I have introduced your channel to two people and the feedback I received later was that its hard as you don't name the notes or the strings when showing the licks. again great content and many thanks 👍👍
That would become a little pedantic, check the tabs on my website instead
Great vid! Helped me a lot. I hope David called you. :)
Not yet... thanks!
sei grande maestro sai spiegare bene
💛🎸
Your really good
BRAVO,,,,,,ORIGINAL..........
well there's a thousand lessons on youtube about this 😂
Fantastic. Been playing this for years and it never sounded quite right, probably because the picking dynamics weren’t right
Cool glad it helps!
Well there you go, like you said someone will give s thumbs down 👎 no matter how good you are. Trust me friend, you are two thumbs up, always!! Ciao Brother
Thanks Mark, two thumbs up for you too!
