It's January 2022, and I return to the creek for a morning of winter fly fishing. The sky was vibrant, and the water was cold. Despite the creek being spring-fed, (allowing it to maintain fairly consistent water temperatures throughout the year) there were ice chunks floating past me as I fished. I was surprised to find several fish eating on the surface. What was even more appalling was that I was able to catch several fish on terrestrial patterns, including a chubby chernobyl with orange rubber legs! It's never a wrong time to try a terrestrial, even if it's just using it for dry/dropper fishing. You might be surprised to find fish taking your fly off the top, even in freezing temperatures!
