Matt, I think your videos provide an outstanding public service. They are an excellent resource for a far wider audience than just those aspiring to win a place at Oxford. They're full of really insightful advice for anyone finding their way in academic and other spheres. I'm 55 so I'm not your principal target demographic, but I came across your channel by chance and I really enjoy your consistent enthusiasm and I very much appreciate the guidance you're giving to young people especially, Oxford-bound or not.

Hi Professor Matt, you had given me the same reply on one of the earlier videos when I had commented this question. I have become inseparable from magazines articles, newspapers articles, books on law since then. I have this fire in me to just dig deeper and deeper which has made me feel optimistic about my application to Oxford. Thank you so much. Hope I get to meet you very soon!!

For budding historians I couldn't recommend highly enough the journal 'History Today'. It will lead you into all sorts of different directions when it comes to books to read.

Hi Matthew, thank you for your recommendation. I’m not from the UK, would it be better to take it in print and send it to france or is it just as good online ?

@@justpelaez904 Hi, I've always read the print version, but I'm guessing that the digital version would be just as good, I think it might also be a little cheaper.

Hi. In fact there are some books you could recommend to everyone. That is my list: "The art of war & other classics of eastern philosophy" by sun tzu, "Think and grow rich" by Napoleon Hill, "Ikigai" by Miralles F,"Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki, "Sapiens - A brief History of Humankind" by Yuval Noah, "A gentleman in Moscow" by Amor Towles, "Crude oil crude money" by Thomas W Lippman and "How to win friend and influence people" by Dale Carnegie. Of course, there are many more. Greetings, Dominik Mauer

    1) start at online resources (UA-cam, Wikipedia, cover basics and then look into specific things you are interested in)
    2) then start reading undergraduate-level books (it makes you credible)
Resources: google scholar, project Gutenberg . You need to read some stuff and really think about it deeply
You should read/do the things to YOU have discovered. Start with baby steps into the material but note down things you find FASCINATING.

Hi Professor Williams, I am a medical aspirant, I have been reading a scientific few articles of my interest. You mentioned that we should give our opinions on what we read in our ps statement (which I am writing right now) , however, for medicine I was a bit confused, what we should do, should we explain what we learnt from the article that we read, as opinions on medical research are a bit difficult, as it is more of a factual piece of work? Just a bit unsure if I am doing this correct or not… thanks as always!!! :D

Hi Vedant, this is a great question. You can give your view on the research questions posed, the methods used, the conclusions drawn, and any implications of research. Be careful when describing scientific work as "factual", as it is only ever incompletely so.
What you don't need to do is to criticise the work, necessarily. In other words, you don't need to say everything you think that was wrong with it. But you could talk about how you would like future research to proceed, what questions remain unanswered for you, and so on.
