Our most viewed upload ever. And there is a reason.
BECAUSE FIRST AID KIT AND PATTI SMITH ARE AMAZING. You didn't go wrong with the song performance picks :)
biblical tune
Bring them back next year!!
I come back to this several times a year. It is simpy a totally fantastic performance!!
Abby Tbaum I'm hoping that they perform this year, something by Emmylou! Can you imagine their version of 'Boulder to Birmingham'?
The way that Johanna shivers. The way they dropped all other distraction from the beginning of the song and really focused on the words, their impact, and their meaning. These girls are fucking phenomenal. Folks will revere them like Bjork, Kate Bush, and miss Patti Smith with time.
I never tire of this. The audience goes from polite to captive. And when Patti cries, I get the feeling she's thinking that at last someone really got it.
Some ‘millennials’ got it lol
I’m 49 and got it when she was off touring and I got smitten & blown away hearing the Wave LP and knowing Todd Rundgren produced it❤️❤️❤️
*Exactly* my thoughts!
Yes! So right you are..Patti Smith's lyrics are captivating on their own but when combined with some rhythm it transcends. She cries because she's moved that yes they did get it but I believe she also cries as now the torch has been officially passed
Gary, I've loved this song the best off of Wave LP since I bought it back in '79. Revenge and Frederick also. To me it is the Patti anthem.
I think she cries because she misses Fred.
Pattis's face near the end gets me every time. I don't think she was expecting them to include her poem, and just hearing her words parroted and sung back to her so lovingly clearly moved her. Such a beautiful performance.
Must be great for her after performing it so many times for so long, to actually get to experience it and hear it being done so right.
Patti does a Bon Dylan cover at an awards show, she’s nervous at first and has to restart. There’s something about it, she’s so graceful, humble and real and then of course she kills it. It was a Bob Dylan tribute.
@@user-ks2bb7mz9x The Nobel awards show. And yes, her grace and humbleness brought the entire audience filled with royalty and world wide VIP thoroughly into her corner. it may have been one of the most beautiful moments I have ever see,/
@@stevenmeyer9674 awww 🥰
"an awards show"? Jeesus.... @@user-ks2bb7mz9x
And Patti has invited them to play two shows with her in Sweden this summer - so she obviously took them to her heart!
i never realized how dark and intense johanna's voice was until i saw this. there's so much emotion in this performance. almost looks like she's in a trance...just wow
When Johanna begins the poem during the final part, it's just mindblowing.
Gui Porto thank Patti Smith for this! :)
It looks like something is possessing her. she starts to shake her head at 3:19 and is just taken over by some kind of emotion and Patty notice it and can't hold back her tears.
Have a feeling Patti Smith is Johanna's music crush (of the two sisters).
@@anodyne57 I 100% agree. Her energy from the moment this started was so intense. Absolutely fabulous.
It’s a hymn
It is not just their voices but the intense physicality of their performance, on stage but looking like at any moment they will explode into a different plane of existence.
this is not what I expected.
these kids doing an almost acapella version of this great song...from yesteryear.
letting the lyrics shine through in a very personal way...
great and then again great...
I don't think they've ever done a cover where the original artist is present and doesn't cry... I was lucky enough to see these girls live, and they are just other-worldly. Inexplicable beauty.
Paul Simon doesn't cry ,but he does give them a STANDING OVATION when they do" I've come to look for America". When he get's the Polar Prize!!
@@kevindevine6780 And Paul broke royal protocol by standing before the King of Sweden did (he never did stand) which is the reason the girls didn't get a standing O
That's as maybe but there's no denying their talent!!!@@stevenmeyer9674
These two young women are perfection. When you get Paul Simon, Emmilou Harris and Patti Smith getting so moved by their performance you know you've nailed it. Pure talent.
Agreed !
If tough punk queen Patti can shed a tear, I do not see any reason why I should not. This is an amazingly beautiful cover of my favourite Patti Smith song ever. Very well done, girls!
The heck of it is, these young ladies hadn't even been born when this song was written. Patti should be proud that this reaches and inspires a new generation of artists.
Johanna sounds exactly like Patti smith when she says the poetry (my favourite bit)Goosebumps........
It really is one of the most Sublime love songs I've ever heard, originally Patti Smith's song, but obviously First Aid Kit nailed it. I always tear up when I see Patti's tears for her love lost to death, it's a sharp pain yet also beautiful. I think the world would be a better place to live if we could all experience such love such love in our lifetimes.
Tears from Smith... they nailed it.
This is what I like to see...young female songwriters paying tribute to pioneering female songwriters. The sisterhood!
These Girls' made Paul Simon cry, Made Patti Smith cry. They made me cry too !
One of the great modern acts.
***** I am not in a bad club !
+Keith Bate Goosebumps and tears every time I hear them.
I'f you can make Patti Smith cry you've made it!
There is a story that they made cry Putin also.
???
Met Patti Smith and she said she wrote this for her husband. My favorite. What a stunning tribute to both of them. Absolutely gorgeous.
That song was written with Ivan Král.
I can never get over this cover the song is amazing and this band is amazing
These sisters are so incredibly talented. They can do almost any kind of song, write brilliant lyrics and make exquisite harmonies. And do the best rendition of this song imaginable.. Oh, God, I fell for them!!
I loved their interpretation and I loved Patti's reaction
Love this. Love seeing how happy it made Patti to hear it.
This came on a random play while I was playing some games on my PC. I had to stop playing and just listen....incredible performance.
These 2 girls have a voice that just hypnotize you. Unbelievable.
The way Johanna moves, the way her hair frames her face, the very bare make-up, the way she's dressed... everything just evokes hippie, but in a good way. Very, VERY cool
They are like two small High Priestesses of the Holy Patti Smith Church. It's just totally awesome how they can even perform like this.
They just nailed the ending….kicks you right in the gut 👏👏👏👏👏
They make everybody cry!!
Both their voices together capture the essence of Patti Smith’s voice. So brilliant.
These girls are unreal...Make every star cry, including myself.
They are sooooo tallent and i just can´t stopp listening to this. I understand that Patti Smiths gets tears in her eyes
This is one of those epic live performances that will stand the test of time! Beautiful!
Watched this band for the first time last week on Jules Holland. They are fantastic.
What a cover here! Patti's reaction is affirmation enough.
Beautiful. Absolutely stunning. I love these women.
I'm a bit late to the party...but sooo glad I finally came across these two beautiful voices in 2015.
Never too late. This music is timeless.
"the plot of our life sweats in the dark like a face
the mystery of childbirth, of childhood itself
grave visitations
what is it that calls to us?
why must we pray screaming?
why must not death be redefined?
we shut our eyes we stretch out our arms
and whirl on a pane of glass
an asphyxiation a fix on anything the line of life the limb of a tree
the hands of he and the promise that s/he is blessed among women"
What the actual fuck? can't believe how great this is
This is such a tribute to Patti Smith but also a testament to the intense, beautiful, heady connection, the love she and her husband felt for one another. I think it's one of the greatest love songs written, as most are just tosh, sad and sappy, this is original. It brings a tear to my eyes that they loved one another so intensely.
I remember this song being on the radio. I had gone to see the King Tut exhibit at the Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco; I think it was 1979. How wonderful to see these Swedish sisters rekindling it now! Awesome.
I cry every single time. So hauntingly beautiful!
You know you've made it when First Aid Kit covers you....
It so pleases me that the originator of any song has he or her heart touched.
PATTI STMITH! She deserves every tribute she could get! This might be one of the greatest. O'GOD I LOVE THIS!
They're voices are not complimentary of each other, they're extremely monotone and I personally find them lifeless
@@JT-gm4fk and Patti Smith is crying because she found it as horrible as you do, lol.
It's really wonderful to read all these comments and hear how you feel about their music. Because it effects me in the same way. And to hear how people appreciate and have that same reaction to the beauty and the alchemy that they created is wonderful and makes me want to embrace all of you for feeling it the way you do..
Patti Smith, you wonderful and beautiful Artist!!!
How the hell did i not know this existed ❤
Dont know what do say anymore about these young women. Makes me cry everytime.
I've just listed to this 3 times in a row and cried every time! I'm usually not a big lame girl but this is just utterly stunning and perfect. Blown away.
Omg I’m crying too! This performance was truly amazing! These girls captured it and their performance was mesmerizing and haunting. I totally loved it!! Bravo 10 X over! 💜🎶💜🎶💜🎶💜Patti’s reaction is priceless.❤️
When I see this, I think that these sisters are unreal. It's hard to fathom that they really exist, Two young women from remote Sweden, hardly 20 years old, and able to produce this cheer magic. If I was a religous man I'd say they are the Second Coming. Simply stunning, and hard to believe.
when Jesus comes back you're gonna be a religious man. now is a good time to start.
My god, these two women are sensational! What a great performance.
WOW....they actually made Patti cry with their rendition!
Probably their most soulful performance ever. When they're on, they sing like Big Pappy bats - over the wall, out of the park!
Patti Smith has a well-earned perfect moment.
dlc1119 I like this.
But for me FAK's most soulful performance is the last track from the excellent "stay gold" album (2014) "a long time ago" a very sad but sublime song. Sung beautifully by Klara.
It is the musicians that convey their heart and souls in their music that are amazing to me. It helps me relate to the music and to its meaning. If I am holding back tears just watching, I can only imagine the emotions these girls must be going through when performing. Their talent goes well beyond their young years. Their parents should be proud.
happy birthday patti! her inspiration continues in the most beautiful of singers
I knew, right when Patti's words were spoken...she would feel it all over again. Amazing.
Still listening to this! For 100th time! :-)
It's old but it still gets me every single damn time man...❤
I'm an old fan, and I have to say this is one of their best interpretations.
That pulled tears right then. These women are incredible.
Wow these gals just keep making their idols cry.....that's success. ...
Utterly wonderful....such great expressive singers....
Okay, Patti Smith tearing up made me tear up!
This a killer version, and thanks Patti for writing such a great song!
OMG, how great was that....! Amazing...!
Wow most intense cover of this song yet. God bless Patti. She's a real poet
I can certainly understand why Patti Smith did. This cover is so full of admiration, respect and sheer musicality, how could one not absolutely love it?
They nailed that cover!
Patti Smith herself at 2:12 staring emotionally, with her creation song covered by the Swedish Sisters delicate tribute !!
Pattis face after is priceless, well done. Amazing Performance.
Jesus! I have no words to describe how good this is!
This is the most moving and beautiful Patti Smith covers I've heard.
Tremendous. Patti did this on her own mind, but what a tribute. Mind blowing.
My heart is smiling because of this.
The hype is JUSTIFIED ❤️🤘❤️😌
Absolutely stunning performance in Philadelphia at Union Transfer, summer 2014. If you get a chance, don't miss their fall US tour!
And don't miss this one: America - First Aid Kit (Paul Simon cover)
You can tell they're fans. They're pronouncing/enunciating everything the same way Patti does.
Kobbe Or they could have just listened to the song before playing it
@@billiesrus Probably only a couple million times since they were kids. You don't get all the little details and intricacies by just listening to it recently. They said so enough times that they grew up on this music, and this performance should make you a believer, too.
Noticed the same thing. They "did Patti" perfectly without just mimicing her. And Patti was obviously quite moved by it. Too cool.
I had read elsewhere that Patti Smith was not amongst their direct influences and they hadn't considered themselves fans, but that they had grown up listening to her music because of their parents.
They were likely very familiar with this song and Smith's style in general which made them proficient interpreters.
@@nevaladder They can't have listened that much, they don't know the chord sequence in the outro.
They bring legends to tears!
Beautiful. It also shows to me (again), that Klara might has one of the most beautiful voices but Johannas is much more unique. It's so deep and intense.
Old, wise and experienced waaaaaaay beyond their years....what arcane wisdom have they tapped into?
The Swedish music scene is packed with talented competiion, since ABBA it's prodcued international supergroups every decade since the early 70s w/ ABBA. Very high bar of quality to live up to if you want to get success&international recognition. These girls certainly managed that, by excellent varied songwritng with proper american country & folk / swefolk influences&style.
i love the songs these girls pick. off the charts!
This video always bring tears to my eyes
As a fan of the music for both Patti Smith and First Aid Kit, this was just brilliant. I am so glad that I have had the chance to see First Aid Kit in concert before they become huge which I am sure is what will happen in the years to come.
I have this on repeat. Gourgeous everything.
jaaaa säger bara , dom har allt ,och ingen är ens i närheten av deras ärliga och underbara musik , cover som eget matrial ,lika BRA , love them
Absolutely Powerful, beautiful, amazing stuff..when the full band kicks in... goosebumps. Incredible, thank you all so much
Geez they took this version off of UA-cam for whatever reason for the longest time. Finally it's back! What a great performance.
I heard them do a tribute for Emmy Lou Harris and now Patti Smith for such young ladies, BRAVO you two.
Patti must have been highly impressed and complimented by their version
What a feeling to make Patti Smith cry!
Wow, that was beautiful.
I love how Patti leaves her tears on her face. I am thinking she is crying because of how she misses Fred.
You know you've done a good job when....Paul Simon are giving you a standing ovation!
2 of my favourite bands/artists. Wow. Thanks. Not sure why I haven't seen this before and Patti was there to see and hear it too. Awesome 💕
"Why must death not be redefined"... just a simple line tossed into the background of an otherwise catchy tune. The genius of Patti Smith.
Amazing..Patti's tears say it all
Shivers down the backbone!!!
wow talk about spirit uplifting
Johanna and Klara - thank you for taking this amazing work back to its roots. You're Patti approved!
