    The Jackhammer and the original make different sounds under the water due to blade size difference. Most bass like the more aggressive sound from the jackhammer and will attack it more often than the original chatterbait.

      @@codygooch510 no, not always, hence the the "most" statement. Pay attention. Bass are predatorial and also territorial. If something poses as a threat or as aggressive to them, they will either attack or run. To something the size of a jackhammer, which is very small, a majority of that time it will be "attack". Normal attributes of fishing still apply of course, it's not a magic bait.

Buy one in your favorite color and throw it for a while. You'll see.

    I'm a novice bass hunter. This past season was my second ever. My rookie season was dope. Bass fishing has been a dream of mine for decades. Let's just say I spent some time in some nasty places. This past season I brought in a solid 3Lb bucketmouth. Towards the end of the season I got my first largemouth on a frog. Things got serious when I committed to using crankbaits, exclusively. Some of the heavy hitters that I talk to told me that I am actually accruing some skill when I can keep up the action with the crankbaits. To handicap things against myself (to really learn and earn hard), I've only fished one small body of water, from only one 30 yard stretch of the bank. Your channel is very encouraging. I appreciate you logging your experience. Rock steady.

When I was a kid, we used to make that Lure out of cut sections of broom sticks, or dowels, but, anyhow, we carved em, painted em, and caught fish, and then, later saw the commercial made lure.. I've used both, hand made and Actual Zara spooks, and both work equally well, but the hand made bait, built by me, is just so much more satisfying.

    I 1000% agree with the assessment of the jackhammer. I dont know exactly what makes it different. Ive inspected both the original chatterbait and the jackhammer. Ive even swapped the blades. The only thing i havent done is swapped the connector that you tie to out. But whatever it is...the jackhammer is the only thing that i will buy the "expensive lure". And if im fishing in new waters ill throw something cheap to feel around the bottom before i throw it so i can more confidently throw it without too much fear of losing one. Even though bladed jigs are honestly kind of hard to snag and lose.

      The hardware is all much higher quality. Much heavier wire hooks, the snaps are made of nickel, the skirt is hand tied, and the start-up time is the biggest difference, though. A normal chatterbait takes a few feet to fully get going. A jackhammer will start as soon as you start reeling. When you put it right next to a bass, those couple of seconds difference make all the difference. The jackhammer is conceivably better in every way, but I get not wanting to spend 16-20 bucks on a lure. Get a minimax, half the price, same thick hook, smaller profile, so more likely to get bit, and it can be up to a half ounce.

  • @nonolabs
    @nonolabs Рік тому

    For those of us that have purchased both you definitely see the difference. Like how the lures last longer, the shinier luster, the way it swims and reacts when popping it. I believe companies do this so they can capture both markets. It's just that the higher priced ones are dialed in for that sport fisherman.

    All right I just want to comment on this video. He is absolutely right. As a Chatterbait fisherman there is a big difference between the Z-Man lineup. I personally go with the cross eyes because of the wire weed guard. And I fish heavy vegetation and around wood. This to me is the best one in the lineup just because it's the most versatile. That being said if this was not an option yes I would buy all jackhammers. And Mini Max. But IMO The only two that you need to buy are the cross eyes and the minimax. Trust me I have well over 200 different zman Chatterbaits

    the jackhammer does a few things in terms of movement that the original does not, it also starts that chattering faster. however, there is also the chatterbait elite evo that is $10 and is like 95% of the way to that same standard as the jackhammer, and even has a nicer trailer keeper. So the evo is the one I buy most often. HOWEVER, the vast majority of my catches so far have been from taking a black/blue original chatterbait and slow rolling it with a craw trailer. It just plain works and is like $5. but my biggest bite has been on a chatterbait mini max funny enough.

    I’m normally very stingy about paying too much for things but I will say, a GOOD chatterbait is def worth the extra money. The good ones start the wobble very quick and easy, while a cheaper one doesn’t start as fast, and you have to pull harder to get it to start which can sometimes cost you a bite since I’ve had many bites right when the lure first hits the water and starts to move.

    • @ProfessorPottsy

    to be fair that 2 dollar fishing lure actually looks like a frog and the other looks like a custom piece someone sold for 10 bucks on etsy cuz people are always looking for whacky lures to throw to see if theyll hook up. its good content for the creator and good business for the lure maker lol
    based on looking at the jackhammer vs. its counterpart id say you could salvage a blade off an old piece to improve it because unless its weighted differently the only variation seems to be the clear chatterblade, its size which would alter its action in the water and a slight variation in color (blue accents on the jack).
    rule of thumb for me is throw bright and light when you know theyre feeding and throw natural and darks when theyre not. in general fish are indescriminate when hungry and work fast to outcompete but will only bite on "realistic" natural lures when theyre not. realize this is prolly not everyones experience but based on mine its what ive concluded and what works lol

    I had a few lores years ago from a company called " mega bass " now they don't make the lores I'm talking about anymore , and it's a real shame ! Now they were $20 a piece in the late 90's ! Now these lores turned every day at a lake into a fishing derby for me and my friends , constantly seeing who could catch more ! So long story aside , yes , sometimes it justifies that price . That being said my largest bass in PA. Was almost 15 lbs. And I caught it on a plastic worm ! Lol.

      The real shame is,that you and I both know darned well that's nothing but,one hell of a (mega bad) "fish story" you just told us pal. And any angler worth his salt,knows mega bass, has never,made any type of fishin lores,let alone get $20 a lore in the 90's! Or ever,at any point in time. Throughout the complete and entire history of fishing,both commercial and recreational. And unless you caught that "15 lb. Pa. bass" from the pond at the 🦄 ranch I work on,or it was of the striped variety,(in which case 15lbs.is nowhere in the ballpark of being one of those mega bass of "lore") all WE have caught here is one helluva "mega ass!" 🎣
      PS,
      PA. state record largemouth bass is only 11lbs.some odd ounces.(I think 4oz. can't 100% for certain recall the exact oz.'s right now) but Pa. state record is under 12lbs.and well under 15lbs.. Not sure if it was taken on live bait or some kind of artificial LURE.

    If you're fishing for bass, you could literally take any small and shiny household item and add a hook. So Sure, go cheap for bass. But pike or other large predatory fish, you're going to want to pay for better lures. They swim and perform better. I've had lures swim funny because they're off balance. I've also had cheap lures straight up brrak under the pressure of a 10+lb pike. He got off and when I reeled it in I noticed both treble hooks snaps right off

    Some cheap lures are great, but some pricier lures are that way for a reason. I like a heavier frog, so that’s why I don’t like the cheap ones. Same reason I like a senko over a dinger 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @mangopod2417
    @mangopod2417 Рік тому

    in my experience when buying lures if you get the cheapest option they just dont really work (ie spinners that dont spin) and the most expensive option will noticably catch more fish but the 3x price USUALLY isnt worth it

    cheap doller store versions usually have cheap hooks that don't hold a point, and the paint chips off the lures, or the lip breaks off, or the snaps open up, etc etc, you get what you pay for - don't support the cheap stuff, or they will make more of it.

    Difference between the jackhammer and the original chatterbait better hook, hand tied skirt, better bait keeper, better paint on head of jig, stainless steel blade vs pot metal. Jackhammer makes a different more aggressive vibration against head of jig. They both have there place also you were using the “stealth blade” not the jackhammer. Completely different lure. Also the connection of the blade to the jig head itself is different.

    I can go to a garage sale and buy a ton of good bass lures for a few bucks. For new stuff rubbers are the biggest rip off. A brand name senko vs a knock off... no difference. Or just buy some worms and tie a worm harness or catch a bluegill and use as bait.
    To me crankbaits are the best investment. A good rapala for 8 or 10 bucks swims better than a cheap knock off.

  • @cliffhooper3558

    Depends on the kind of lure. Some quality goes further than others. Many cases your paying for confidence in the lure. May fish it better if you believe it will get the bite.

  • @seasgarage

    The jackhammer is made by zman AND evergreen. Brett hite helped design it. The reason its 15$ is because it starts to thump instantly when reeled in. Also, buying knockoffs isnt good. Theres a reason for a higher price tag. Someone spent a lot of time building the lures. Nishine is the best example of this. Hiroshi spends like 10 years just designing his lures. And even then he restarts if something is even 1 degree off. #supporttheOG's
