Village Center Mall, Harlan, KY | Gorgeous Dead Mall 2024
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- The Village Center Mall opened in 1981, anchored by Belk-Simpson and Magic Mart. The former coal-mining town is economically depressed and has had a lot of jobs and industry leave. To make matters worse, Walmart joining the town in 1991 led to K-Mart in the adjacent strip mall on site leaving. Today, this little mall sits almost completely unaltered since 1981 in terms of aesthetics, and remains as a gorgeous example of a dead mall.

How I wish there was a good way to preserve these pieces of history. Imagine this place with people.. And you... You know... Stores... However, I guess there's just no room for these little malls anymore. Shame, really.
What a beautiful little mall!
I swear I've seen this mall in my dreams or something. It has that distinct ethereal vibe.
Raaaaaxxxx!

While dead, it looks like it’s being used now as an office space and local small shop business. Reminds me of Mountaineer Mall in Morgantown, WV
I'm impressed with the video. I'm a Kentucky girl, and I'm curious if you have filmed any other Kentucky malls. All remaining Stage corporation stores were rebranded as Gordmans by March 2020. Because of the very bad timing of that they filled bankruptcy that summer and closed every store.
I've got more KY malls in the queue already and there will definitely be more in the future!

😂😂😂
Man, I'd love to visit some of these abandoned malls. We don't really have much like this here in the UK. Crazy that these types of places where flooded with people back in the 80s and 90s, but now thanks to companies like amazon, we don't have these places to visit.
I’ve lived in harlan my whole life and I used to go to this mall all the time, it’s sad to see nothing in it anymore
The brick and flooring are beautiful. I love brick architecture.
My late father used to work over that way in the coal mines so we went to Harlan a lot. I can remember going to the Kmart, Super RX Drug store (got a making of horror movie makeup/FX VHS there), Magic Mart, and Belk. Also I remember in the early 90s that if you were standing at the Belk getting ready to walk into the mall the smaller store immediately to your right was a CD music store where I got a copy of Debbie Gibson's Body Mind Soul CD. That Merle Norman has always been there. The Subway was once a very nice looking ice cream parlor and directly opposite was a cafeteria style restaurant that used to stay packed. I'm so glad they're still taking care of this mall at least, it looks great.
Took a slight detour from following US 119 north to visit this place while coming home from SC. Definitely awesome to see this one still going despite being without an anchor. Its small size no doubt helps.
That was a fun tour. Lots of nostalgia an my channel.
Great job kid! Keep up the good work!
Vintage and little I love it :)
Amazing quality ❤ keep em coming 💯
Who trespassed tho? 😉
Nobody☺
why can't your videos be longer since its a Mall, big space, so much to film
Small malls like these, I often run out of things to film. I also don't wanna drag it out, but I have just filmed some more malls with much more beauty clips of things, so those videos might be longer.
The Bennetts are killing this town
Gotta check out west town mall in knoxville tn!
And foothills mall in maryville, tn
@thehillpeople886 I've been to Foothills, but didn't film it. That mall hopefully will stick around for a while longer, as active work has been and still is going on repurposing old empty anchor stores.
@TheMallFox both of those are still pretty active malls, but as far the the planters and stuff, you'd probably really love the aesthetic of them
If you’ve never had rax you are missing out big time!
@kentuckyproproductions1624 I went here and made a point to stop in at the Rax!
