    I've hit SEVERAL curbs at very high speeds over the years. My car has a certain noise which I cannot figure out. I believe you just solved my problem...if I can just get under there and check it out. THANK YOU!!

    I'll be looking into this on my 03 Focus as well. Similar popping noise which seems to be coming from the front passenger side.
    I was going to send it to the shop, but I think I'll check this out myself first. Thanks for posting!

    Replace the rear shocks, sway bar links and sway bar bushing on my 2012 fusion sel about 6 months ago due to rattling. The noise came back so bounced the rear end to make the rattle and ended up taking the shock back out, adjusting the bracket to 48 degrees and reinstalling. No noise as of yet.

    This appears to be a really common problem. I replaced.this part on my 2005 mazda 6. Same car underneath. I know a couple people who had the same exact problem, even the same side of the car. Mazda 6 forums had lota of posts about it. Its a cheap and easy fix, at least.

    I’m still figuring out the source of a noise on my fusion while steering.
    I thought maybe it has something to do with front breaks, the breaks were replaced the noise is still there, I asked mechanics a few times they said they didn’t hear it but I do hear it.
    It just if you let it go for so long you don’t want it to get so bad to a point when the whole transmission or steering components are damaged and you need to replace the entire thing. Hoping to finally diagnose properly on my next oil change
    Good point about noise transferring from the back to a front.

    Currently diagnosing my 08 Manual Fusion 130k which has a distinct growling/whirring noise when turning right (weight carrying on drivers side). Wheel isn't loose, I would've sworn it was the CV axle, but after replacing, the noise is still there. The seal/bushing at the power steering knuckle is completely shot, but would that be causing the vibration I hear and feel only while turning right? It almost sounds as if it's coming *from* the transmission, but the seal is good and again, new CV axle, and only occurs while turning one way.

    I have a 2005 ford five hundred and there is a loud clunk coming from just the front passenger wheel and possibly passenger rear when going over large speed bumps. Would this be more likely to be from bad upper strut mounts or control arm bushings? Or possibly a bad strut? I have already had the sway bar end links replaced for other noises. The car has 208,000 miles on it. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    I've got an 06 fusion and it makes a loud pop noise when making a hard left turn from a stop. All six ball joints, both front struts and links have been changed within the last year. sounds like its coming from the left front wheel well. it does not do it if you turn without stoping

    With this problem can it cause the flex hose exhaust pipe to lbreak the seal and eventually break apart? With this clunky noise motor mounts have been changed also still makes this clunking noise. I've have had my flex pipe replace x2.

  • @ReclusiveMountainMan

    Interesting. Most shade-tree mechanics wouldn't think to check the back if there is noise in the front.
    How common are cracked sub framed on the Fusions? Why are they failing, if they are? Also, how come there was so much corrosion on this particular car? Is that due to snow and salting the roads? Thanks!

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 років тому

      I have heard of them cracking and there is a tsb for a bracket kit for the ones that have cracks in the welds. As far as the rust we do use salt allot here but these cars seems to rust allot everywhere, certain Fords are like that by different years.

      I have a 2006 Fusion SEL V-6. I have a rattle-bouncing banging sound when driving over bumps in road. Mechanic said subframe is not cracked. I've replaced inner and outer tie rods, struts, CV joints on both sides and rack and pinion. However, the noise persists. The sound is coming from front passenger side. When i go over speed bump i hear it strictly in front. It never happens when the rear wheels go over the speed bump. All 3 mounts have also been replaced. It has 140K miles and runs like a champ but this banging noise is driving crazy. Any advice?

      FordTechMakuloco hello. I just replaced my rear shocks, springs, upper and lower spring mounts, sway bar end links all on the rear of my 2008 Ford Fusion. Before I took and replaced anything it was making a loud rattling in the left rear almost like a weak spring bouncing around. After I put all new parts on it now that same loud rattling is coming from the right rear now. It almost sounds like the spring is smacking the body when I hit larger bumps but also on a flat surface when you hit bumps there is no noise. It only really does it when the crown of the road goes to the right and you hit bumps. What do you think could be the cause? Do you think possibly one of the new sway bar end links is faulty?

    I have a 2006 Fusion. I get a clunking noise mainly from the front driver side of the car, but also slightly on the passenger front. It happens when driving at city speeds going over bumps, or if I jerk the wheel back and forth. I got the car up in the air and figured it was the inner and outer tie rods as they were obviously shot and had a lot of play, so I replaced them. No Buenos. Everything else underneath looks and feels to be in perfect condition. I can't replicate the sound by pushing down on the front of the car. I'm at a loss. I got a suggestion that it may be the struts or strut mounts. Knowing that you have experience with fusions, could you point me to what the most possible causes could be? I don't think the struts could knock, especially because they're not bottoming out or leaking. Is it possible it is the strut mounts?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 років тому

      The struts can knock if the upper strut bearing was bad yes but unlikely on this car. The most common for that noise in the front on these is the stabilizer links they are under higher tension on these so a hand check of them may not be sufficient and I almost always use a pry bar on them to check. Also the lower ball joints at the knuckle are very common for this noise but again because of the design they are very hard to check due to being under tension already especially on your model year I have changed quite a few.

    • @BobDingle25
      @BobDingle25 9 років тому

      Thanks for the input. I recently replaced them and it fixed the problem. I was just lost because I couldn't tell if they were bad just by shaking them. Even using a pry bar i could only hear a little bit of knocking. After pulling them off i could tell they were in very bad condition. Thanks again.

    I have an 09 Fusion and it's been making a noise for a while that no one can seem to find. Everyone seems to agree that its coming from the front-right side. I've had several parts replaced including the strut, upper and bottom control arm, and an axle and the noise is still present. It sounds like a rattle or tapping when going down the road, worse on rough roads. If you stick your head in the passenger side and rock the car you can hear something that sounds like its coming from under the floorboard but no one can find anything wrong underneath. It's been driving me crazy! You have any ideas we may be missing? Thanks!

    I'm getting like a creaking sound when I turn the wheel sharp at slow speed. I notice it most when I cut the wheel sharp while backing into my driveway. I wonder if this could be the same problem? Thank you, John G

    Man this is my bread and butter here. I'm an ace at finding NVH problems. A good quick tip I have is to take a rubber mallet after its in the air and start tapping all over the sub frame, suspension components, and exhaust. Sometimes though it's tough. The tool that has saved me a bunch of times is the steelman chassis ear. There was a dodge magnum that came in from a chrysler dealer a while back who quoted the guy for like a $1500 bill to take care of a front end rattle and after two test runs the noise was found to be sway bar bushings. With the suspension either on the magnum or the charger (i think it was like an 04') if there is ANY play with the sway bar bushings there will be a terrible, terrible rattle. Under a visual inspection though they may look just fine.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 років тому

      Yeah I have been through the same with swaybar bushings on Chryslers. I do use a mallot especially on exhaust rattle noises but that would not have helped in this situation as I would be checking the front all over, even chassis ears would have been clamped on places on the front suspension with no luck.

      FordTechMakuloco Some do take a while to diagnose. A tech was telling me years ago about a nightmare he had with a car that had a rattle from day one as a new car and it took a couple days to find the cause which were nuts and bolts thrown in a cavity in the sub frame that was factory welded shut. lol

    I happened to find this video while troubleshooting a noise issue with my 2007 Fusion. I would describe it as a squeaking/creaking that occurs at low speeds, while braking, and turning. It tends to get worse as the car warms, especially now that the weather is getting hotter. Every time I've heard it, contacted a friend/mechanic/dealer, by the time they've looked at it, the noise has disappeared. A web search found many people with the same problem. I would not say it's the same as the author of this very good video describes. Do any of you have the same issue? If so, did you figure it out?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 років тому

      Jim Pryde I have multiple videos on squeaks and rattles on these cars. I have seen engine mounts cause your noises also as the engine shifts.

      Jim Pryde i have this same issue, it worsens in hot weather. If you're having a mechanic look into this, drive the car until you start hearing the noise and take it to them, if it's possible have them check it first without jacking the car because jacking the car eliminates the sound (not permanently, of course) i'm taking mine to a ford dealer tomorrow and hopefully they can do something about it. Someone on a forum said that he sprayed the struts and fixed the noise however it does come back once in a while.

      Jim Pryde Same thing with my 2011 fusion hybrid, Are your struts original? I'm at 92k and I'm going to have my struts replaced. Sounds like a strut bushing/bearing to me.

      Yes, my struts are original, and I'm at 132,000 miles. A friend took a look at them a week ago, as well as seeing a TSB regarding the noise as well. He recommended I buy some new strut mounts. I ordered them from rockauto.com and I'm waiting to put them in. He has the tools to handle the springs (I'm not going near them) so I'll report what I find out.

    • @JimPryde
      @JimPryde 9 років тому

      Mark Viau Thanks for sharing Mark Viau . Let me know how the install goes. I stated that I would actually be more comfortable spending more for the whole kit, but he expressed less enthusiasm about the venture stating that it may be lesser quality than the individual components I ordered. Since he works for Chinese food and Dr. Pepper, I'm not complaining if he wants to assume all the risk of compressing the springs!

    Any idea on getting back seat out of an 06 fusion without destroying it or the leather? Have to get seat out to open n fix left rear door so it will open also having problems with front turn signals both of them not bulbs wiring probably. I have a 2010 Milan with 126,000 miles and it recently started making a noise in the drivers front area when going over rough road or potholes. Sounds like a ball is being dribbled underneath the car. I figure the struts are worn and this is causing it however I remember back about 7 years ago when I had an 02 ZX2 and it made similar noise and I replaced those front struts and it never did fix that car. I want to diagnose it myself with some help here possibly before I replace the struts

    I think you just saved me massive grief. Mechanic told my friend that it was the right front hub and bearing. But it's a thud not a grinding noise or shaking like messages below. I'll get this thing in the air and look for that link! If not, then one by one check things off. If not the link, anywhere else I should look?

    Midas replaced the front right strut in mine. Only then did noise start. It is a constant clunk like noise. Any slight bump in the road causes the noise. Any ideas?

    • @v-raze1823
      @v-raze1823 5 років тому

      I have an idea- take your car to a real mechanic! Sarcasm aside, there are any number of things that could cause a clunk like that, but the timing suggests they may have left something loosely installed when they put the new strut in. First thing to do would be to jack the front of the car up, take the wheel off, and do a thorough visual inspection to see if there are any obviously loose bolts or worn-out bushings.

      @@FordTechMakuloco I mean it makes sense if you think about it. When something that moves is brand new, it's gonna be tighter in the movements and not loosey goosey like something that has been used. If one side moves loosey goosey and one side moves tighter, it's gonna throw something off. I've never had any training or anything. I'm js it makes logical sense right? I have a 2011 Fusion SE 4cyl with just over 52K and have a kinda popping/creaking noise on days that get above 80º. I just had the motor mounts changed last week, hoping this was resolve the issue. Nope, I still have the creaking and popping. I can even feel this in the steering wheel. I have always been a Toyota or Honda guy, but thought I would try a Ford Fusion due to initial reviews. This car has been a nightmare with all the recalls and now this.

    Brian, I have a possible issue with my 08 Taurus 3.5l na 80k miles. I bought it a year ago and soon after I started noticing a little rocking when cruising through town immediately following a shift either up or down. Also, whenever I stop the car, it seems to rock to and fro a time or two. It's not a huge deal but drives me crazy. I noticed with engine off in park, hood up, I could see significant engine/trans movement as I rocked the car. I replaced the torque strut which I think helped but didn't eliminate the issue. I'm not sure if this behavior is normal to this model. Can you advise?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  10 років тому

      I would check the lower torque strut mount they fail all the time on these.

    • @brchrdsn
      @brchrdsn 10 років тому

    • @FordTechMakuloco

      It seperates from the metal and you get lots of slop in there.

      The bushings within the dogbone, right? I replaced it with an aftermarket part....Anchor, if I remember right. The bushings didn't look as robust as the originals but was somewhat stiffer composite. It did improve but not eliminate my issues. I'll take a look and see if it is failing already.

    • @brchrdsn
      @brchrdsn 10 років тому

      I wanted to thank you for your advice. I did find the replacement torque strut had failed. I'm curious as to why these are failing, albeit the second one was aftermarket. Also, I'm reading horror stories about the 6F50 trans. Mine will produce a very hard 1-2 shift occasionally when cold. I have read many folks have spent upwards of $4000 to have these things rebuilt....at 40- 80k miles! Is it just internet hype or is this common? My ol' AX4S has a pretty bad internet reputation but has served me 336K miles so far w/o rebuilt so I'm hoping the 6 speed is not the disaster some folks are saying it is.
