In this one we are getting the cattle yards ready to bring some more cattle in. The weather has well and truly turned, everywhere is under water and we need to get the cattle inside where they will be safe and dry.
We also sort our heifer calves our and split the stabilisers out of the Charolais ready for winter feeding. I show you what we are feeding them and what our winter strategy is.

How do you choose between the heifers you keep for replacements and fat heifers for meat, is it just down to experience or dose breeding come into to it more ?, great video again ❤

😂 I’m really pleased with how they are performing. I think for the vast majority of suckler cow farmers in the U.K., they won’t do better than a stabiliser. 🐮

Had them for 2/3 years now. Before that we were buying British blue x friesian heifer calves for replacements. Stabilisers are proving to be a much better cow for our system though.

We used Overcote Wolfgang. Mainly as we are trying to breed red cattle and he was the best red bull available. 🤞 there all in calf now. 😂 🙈

Grass is pretty wet now as the brooks flooded a couple of times. Arable crops aren’t looking very happy, wouldn’t be surprised if they failed but in the grand scheme of things, we’ve got off lightly compared to many.
