Funny story, i bought a Steam Deck, it was going to me a week and it broke after 5 days cause i restarted it while in desktop mode and having game open. I tried to repair it with some guides but just broke it even more cause i disabled bluetooth making anything that would maybe help impossible. After some long talking with Steam Support they finally give me everything to send it to repair, now i just wait. So ye moral of the story, i'm bad at PC and very (un)lucky. Besides being easy to break even more with bad guides and being stupid it's a really good tech, emulation was taking my time and i loved it, idk what with games on steam cause i didn't have space or games to try. I was thinking about buying a Switch cause i love portable gaming and when Steam Deck get broken again i would just play on it when waiting for it to come back and getting Switch repaired is easier also online isn't that expensive.... But still fuck paid online, it's the worst thing console players need to fuck with
Sadly it is not the PC platform that's the problem. It is the companies and developers that are purposely making it look awful by overpricing the parts and making some games not run to its full potential.
Don't blame the devs. They have been tweaking the shit out of many games just do we can stagnate on an 8 gig VRAM standard for the past 8 years. Edit: yes, poorly optimized games exist. Especially poorly ported games from console or just smaller Indi studios that don't have the budget. But games also just get more demanding over time and that's exactly how it should be.
I'm looking at going back to the couch than sitting down at a desk for long gaming sessions. Mainly play single player story driven stuff. My next build will be connected to my 65 inch lg c2 with a corsair laptop with wireless keyboard and mouse combo.
I will say as of right now the PC gaming experience is only for the enthusiast level of gamers, because if you're casual there's is no reason you should be dropping 1000 dollars on a machine when you really don't have to unless you just got money to throw around like that.
@@ErockOnTech With the general cost of everything these days, that will never happen, everything is on the rise. Simply put consoles make a loss and a PC company will never ever be able to drop to compete.
So i pay triple times a console budget to play broken ports of my favorite games and also having to deal with drivers, windows issues, and having to upgrade every two years. That sounds great, totally nothing wrong with that what so ever.
This is one of the best arguments regarding PC gaming. It's the superior way,but at the same time the most expensive one. With these prices especially the gpu ones,it is even harder not to consider going for the consoles. We live in disturbing and sad times...
@@ErockOnTech You missed a positive, older games can still often be played just fine… with older/lower end hardware. Then PC gaming can be cheap (if you mostly ignore the modern crap).
Yeah every game just needs to be on Steam and other launchers so that we can choose to only use steam or one launcher if we want. And these studio specific launchers, like the Rockstar launcher, simply need to go away. They are useless and no one likes them.
@@ErockOnTech Not to mention that steam is the only one that can give you the "console like" interface when you go to big picture mode if you want to use the controller and navigate with it.
@@ErockOnTech yea, it’s their way to keep ALL the micro transaction revenue, funny thing is because of partnerships they can’t be sliding them “Rockstar Only” deals to push people into their launcher. Epic is a whole different beast and Fortnite gave them sooo much runway that the have the best “value” in any launcher out but basic features are still missing. It’s gotten better over this last year though to be fair
@@Marko-ij4vy yes exactly. I wish windows would natively have a console like dedicated user interface. Why not just use the Xbox dashboard? It seems like a no brainer to me.
I just bought a nhd15s because my 5900x was doing 85c while playing and I have spent all day troubleshooting that issue, those are the things you don't have to worry about with consoles.
@@ErockOnTech Too many games on pc already Damn steam sales now xbox and ps games plus Nintendo emulators. I can't keep up. However GPU prices are madness currently. It used to be sell old card add 100 bucks and get a 80 class card but now smdh. The 4090 is literally the best value now.
I have a newly built 4080 rig and PS5. I have the same feeling. The difference on PC is definitely there and I love 120hz in AAA, but in terms of overall graphics quality I can not see that 2000$ difference… And not to mention recent awful pc ports aka stuttering fest.
@@Leo-zy4fy Exactly, what really bothers me that with a $2000 machine, you'll get stutters no matter what your GPU is, I have a 240hz display, it's cool and fun until you have a frame drop and you ask yourself was it really worth it?, and the fact that game developers nowadays optimize their game for consoles and then PC.
I'm really happy you mentioned bad ports, I would really like to know what kind of bad ports to avoid, so it would be nice to have a video reassuring which ones are worth the time and which aren't
That would be a long video. My best advice is search UA-cam for the game you’re interested in and look up PC reviews specifically. Off the top of my head: Good Spider man remastered Spider man miles morales Resident Evil 4 Remake Call of duty MW2 Bad The last of us Wild hearts wo long fallen dynasty
Even if you match the specs on consoles you wont have the same performance because of optimization you have to go above console specs for that and thats not cheap anymore
The thing about console is just boot it up, sit on a couch and relax and play for half an hour. That feeling just doesn’t happen for me in pc. I dont care about frames, just run my game smooth
I used to be a PC gamer a long time ago. I didn't have much money after that, so switched to PS4, despite I had heard a lot about "huge prices on games". But years later, I have 120+ games in my library, and I've spent just 20% more than it is on PC. Just a year ago I've got a new job, more income etc, so I've thought - let's move on to "true gaming" on PC. I have never been so wrong... When I configured the PC (in the PC configurator site) I've dreamed about, I was shocked. 7800x3d + 4080 + quality other parts (but not top tier) ~ $3.000 And this PC isn't possible to handle everything in 4K 60FPS on Ultra. I have to manage my settings 🤦 And I'm not a teenager anymore with unlimited time to play. I have 2 hours per day at MAX. $3.000 for 2 hours playing. Seems like I have to wait for the next gen to make the previous one affordable.
I just bought a gaming PC and games pretty much look the same as current console PS5 and Xbox Series X. I'm not seeing any difference other than higher frame rates. Now while PCs obviously get higher frame rates, it's just not a bother to me because 120 FPS Hz on the consoles is already enough. So yeah, frame rate isn't a big thing to me at all. Graphics are barely better on PC, just barely. I see a little more shadow detail or a little extra detail added to the jacket or the cars but it's not enough, it's barely barely a difference at all. Consoles have come to a point of PC graphics. 10 teraflops PS5 and Xbox Series X 12 teraflops, it is at the same level in Nvidia 3060 to AMD 6700XT. It's the same, I don't see any difference at all. Several website say the same thing on the GPU cards equivelent to the current consoles I said there. It's just like wow, consoles are now at PC level. Games run at a real 1440p or 1600p and are upscaled to 4K so that they get the good frame rate. If it was run in real 4K they would get low frame rate. For example, Gotham Knights game has real 4K and 30 FPS. The developer themselves said that. So that's really the first real 4K game on consoles. If you want 4K with 120 or more FPS than you're gonna have to go 4080 or higher in PC graphics card. I don't see the point anymore in having a gaming PC as the console graphics have now caught up to the same level as PC. So there's no point to having a gaming PC anymore at all. Plus a console is overall just easier to use and gets to the point of just gaming while a PC has Windows and the internet and spread sheets and office use and calculator and many other applications. But a gaming console is focused on movies, TV, games and trophies/ acheivements. Therefore I like consoles more as they are just a lot easier and faster to use.
One thing I have been noticing on my Ps5 vs my 7900xt PC- way less cheating on console. MW2 with crossplay off is actually pretty sweet because of this, and that the playing field is basically level (unless you play on a PS4). Still get that sweet 120fps too.
I've always had and used deskop PCs for myself. And it really pisses me off how expensive the parts have become. It's completely unjustified. All these PC parts cost a few dollars to actually produce in the factories. But they sell for hundreds and thousands just because of the " innovation and idea " . So we're not paying for the production effort put into making a CPU or GPU or SSD or Motherboard or RAM. We're paying hundreds and thousands only for buying an " idea " on a small microchip which costs only a few dollars to actually make. It's complete insanity really, but the whole world is pretty much nowadays.
I complete understand what your coming from. My sister wanted to build a PC in which we did but, she was surprised at how expensive the parts were. That being said she totally enjoys it/
Yeah I love PC. No doubt. I just wanted to present both sides of the argument. I have family and friends who ask me for help on picking out parts. They are excited at first. Then when they see the total costs, they change their minds. It’s sad.
The biggest thing that I have noticed about pc gamers is that every pc gamer thinks that you need to max out every graphics setting. There isn’t always a need to play on ultra with anti aliasing maxed out. Games don’t look much better between ultra and high graphics settings. You get a huge fps increase just from playing games on high graphics. I’ve been gaming on pc since 2017 when I built my first computer with a homie of mine. I still own a console for sports games. I know to a lot of people sports games don’t matter but unfortunately if you enjoy sports games you are forced to play on console. 2K and madden on pc are not even the current gen version of the game it’s last generation(ps4 and Xbox one) I feel like I get the best of both. If I want to be comfortable I relax in my living room on my couch and play sports games. If I want to sweat in a shooter or play something with really good graphics I go upstairs to my game room and get on the pc.
I am an Enthusiast and when I upgrade I will buy high end hardware. It would be madness to upgrade every hardware generation though. My 5950X and my 3090 are still capable and will be for a few years. With the PC ports you are right. A lot of them are flawed.
It kills me man. I love gaming on PC so much. Then we get amazing hardware. Then we have awesome games. But then all that potential is wasted when the port is bad. It’s sad really. At a minimum, developers should at least implement a “console” settings mode on the ports.
My main Problem as a PC enthusiast is, spending a fortune for a kick ass system, only to get shitty PC Ports from the devs, all the powerful hardware not getting utilised.
4:20 to be fair, 4K has always been a rough and expensive resolution to stay relevant at. 1440P and 1080P get much better mileage out of GPUs in the long term. Digital Foundry was one of the outlets that tried to show 1080 Ti 60FPS gameplay which is would struggle at that time. One thing that is a plus for the high end and even the mid-tier parts is that they resell well so if you flip old parts new parts are about half.
@@ErockOnTech 100% I just helped two people put together some builds that can run at at least 60 FPS for the next 5 years. It’s interesting the perspective you would have depending on the games you play. Someone who is into CSGO, Valorant, Overwatch, and older titles, would be all set even now with a 980 Ti - 1070 range card. Might run into a VRAM buffer issue now and then buy if that FPS counter is off and the 1% lows aren’t an abomination… we essentially are dealing in luxuries. To the earlier point 4K don’t play, new titles slap the taste out of new techs mouth upon release. Gotta start doing some trickery with each passing generation, DLSS, render scale tricks, lower settings etc
About Wo Long on PC, I had the same stuck in a black screen listening to a dragon issue. I had to install VP9 video extension for the cutscenes to start playing. Really scuffed stuff.
Erock, I wish I seen this 8 years ago before getting addicted to the PC trend! Honestly speaking a console gets the job done, no issue, no thought process at all. A gaming PC doesn't give you that peace of mind. I remember scrapping every dollar for a gaming PC only to realize how much issues it really has underneath. I wasted my youth saving money when that should have been put towards a decent console and to my teenage years.
A 4090 strix is $3599 in Australia which is $2390USD. We pay over a thousand dollars for top of the line CPUs. And you can easily spend over 10 grand on a complete setup here. It's absolutely ridiculous
Im not sure if i want to move to PC because of one main issue. Shader compilation Stutters. I absolutely hate stutters and it seems to be a growing issue on PC
Also you can get retailed part for two times less so sometimes you can build one that’s cheaper and better than consoles but it’s not recommended unless you know what you’re doing. Because sometimes the part might be defective.
Pricing is definitely getting so nutty I’m seeing more and more people just give up building or upgrading and end up saying they bought a ps5. If some one is on a really tight budget and may not have a Pc and they just want to casually play some games it’s not a bad idea to get a ps5 or Xbox just because you do get a lot of value esp on the Xbox side with game pass. However, I am blessed to have ps5 and a high end gaming pc and I really still prefer pc just because I can play older games, newer games and emulators and more. I do think if some one is going to build a Pc and they don’t plan on upgrading it later or typically don’t have the money to buy a new gpu every few years it’s better to save up and get something with more vram than a 4070 ti, although it’s not a bad gpu at all! My wife and many other people I know are using one now and it’s fire. The price is terrible considering what we use to pay for gpus. I really don’t think gpu prices are going to normal again anymore especially with the demand for ai and demand for several other applications that harness gpu power. What my final thought is, look at gaming laptops. You may not get the same exact power out of a desktop counterpart butttttt you can get some really good deals on gaming laptops right now. I’ve seen some good deals on them and you don’t need a monitor keyboard or mouse or any accessories. So in the end if someone is coming from console and they have a strict 1000$ all in budget it could be an option worth looking at. I’ve seen people find clearance and open box deals for 3070 /3080 laptops under 1000$
Thanks for the comment. Yeah I agree that I prefer PC over console. However, as you said, console is just a tremendous value. Also, you make a fair point about the GPUs and AI demand these days. It seems like no matter what happens, Nvidia and AMD have excuses to keep charging outrageous prices. I’m blessed to afford it. Like you, I also have a high end gaming PC and a PS5. But my PS5 usually collects dust at this point. Good suggestion on gaming laptops.
Windows is most likely the biggest issue for many. It’s a terrible OS and not getting any better. You’ll be crying crocodile tears when the 5090 comes out for 2k and the next Jedi game won’t even run properly on it at 4k without stuttering again ^^
Pc gaming is overated the games are mostly full with bugs. And he says pc is the better platform to play games😂 Game Developers never cared a good optimization for pc games. They always prefer Consoles to fully support.
All roads lead to PC gaming. Xbox is putting all their games on PC day 1. PlayStation is now porting their games to PC. They have a dedicated Steam store page. Plus there are so many games on PC that have never been ported to a console.
I definitely think going midrange is honestly the way to go for PC at this point high end is fun but its becoming such a waste might as well just lease GPUS at this point
Yeah honestly 1440p resolution still looks fine and you can get midrange pc to game at that resolution for reasonable price and can also last you for some time. High end pc gaming is only niche category anyway and most pc gamers dont even game on high end pc. In fact according to steam survey most used gpus are still gtx 1060 and 1660
Windows in itself is a huge problem. I had a pc all my life, played games on pc exclusively until my friend lent me his Xbox 360. The plug and play nature of console was amazing. I didn't have to sit and troubleshoot something after a long day of work due to the unpredictable nature of windows.
PC is expensive now then compared back when I built mine in 2018. A high paying job or buisness. Will allow you to make the necessary income to afford a high performance PC. Another thing about PC is a lot of DIY if you build your own. Removal and replacing old parts can be stressful. If you haven't upgraded in while. Ports are a hit and miss. Games get discounted, it's like highway robbery
Congratulations on 6k subscribers! Keep doing what you do! You are the most loyal and honest person Im subscribed for tech youtubers! I haven't watched much but I have been busy with my blue screen errors! I am getting replaced my new motherboard!
@@ErockOnTech thank you! Got some complications with buying it from newegg which was in canada I bought it! I went to my pc shop last week on tuesday and he told me to call them so I can get a replacement! I called and the day after on wednesday I realized I made a big mistake of calling it in the united states which would've cost me shipping and something seemed off! So I got in contact with a representative and now it is almost back to the newegg facility and Im waiting for them to send me a new one!
If a $500-$1000+ pc is worse than a $400 console(ps5) then how is pc better? Wouldn’t just a certain tier of pc be better like high end PCs instead of PCs as a whole because console is better than all low end and most mid end PCs? Also the average pc gamer setup is around $1000 or less price point so that makes consoles better than most PCs out there so shouldn’t console be better overall since it’s better than most PCs?
Mid tier pc is already better than console. For 1000 you can get pc with rtx 3060ti which is already better than a console. And games on consoles are more expensive + you have to pay for online so the total spendings will eventually get closer. Also pc isnt better just because its more powerful but because of all the other features and options its has that console doesnt. Some console games run at 30 fps which I would absolutely hate and would rather play at lower graphics at 60 fps which pc gives me that option.
@@Marko-ij4vy a 3060ti pc is like $1400 and you’d have to build it yourself and do research on how to build a pc for that price which is a huge negative for most. The games being more expensive compared to the main pc stores like steam isn’t true because I’ve literally compared prices of the most popular games and they be similar most of the time and the paying for online thing really isn’t paying when you get 100s of free games that by far outweighs the costs and only a tiny amount of games run at 30 fps which 99% of those games you can choose a 60fps+ option if you wanted to. It just comes down to preference at the end of the day, but I like both personally.
@@KINGOFDUBSOFFICIAL No there are literally prebuilts with 3060ti for 1000-1200. No theyre not similiar. There are ps5 games sold for 80 while pc versions for same games are still for 60 and you can find them elsewhere for even less. "paying for online thing really isn’t paying when you get 100s of free games" lol what are you talking about ? You literally pay money for it so how is it not paying. And most of those games are old games. Epic games and other launchers on pc are giving away a lot of games for completely free and you keep them forever rather than just actually renting them when they can disappear anytime. You dont get "free games". You are just rentimg them and lose access to them as soon as you stop paying for online.
@@Marko-ij4vy give me the exact name of a pre build with a 3060ti for $1200 or less so I can look it up and give me a random list of 5 games and we can see if they are cheaper on pc than ps5. If games are cheaper on pc most of the time then this random list should show that. Lastly it’s irrelevant to say that you have to pay for online when you get 100s of dollars worth out of it. You also get huge discounts on games that last forever which cancels out the price for the subscription as well so saying we have to pay for online is a true statement but weak argument. You have to pay 3x the price for the same performance on Pc
@Kanaba Nakamura Prebuilt pc with rtx 3060 ti is for little over 1000 eur on german amazon. So no theyre not invalid. And ps5 is also more expensive in europe than us. And if you buy both "passable" pc and ps5 then for the same money you can buy decent pc instead.
I mainly game on PC but I have consoles as backup in case something happens. As an owner of all ways to play I’d say as much frustration PC gaming can come with its worth it. Once you play at 4k and get a steady 120 in all game’s console kinda suck. 60fps don’t cut it. As far as ports go…. If it plays like crap I have consoles. Theirs an advantage to playing games on everything and not playing fanboy to a single brand.
Pc gaming made sense over consoles for a long time now , but we got to a point where investing in a gaming pc nowadays is simply stupid . Thousands of dollars for a machine that you wont use to its fullest potential. Not to mention console exclusives and bad pc ports .i have a gaming laptop that i spent 3k on 4 years ago and im not spending that much money on a machine ever again .from now on im buying a playstation 5 to play gta6 when it comes out along with other games i enjoy . I dont game that often anymore either since most games are boring these days .
Yes pc is more expensive but its still better. There are some drawbacks like bad ports as you mentioned but imo the pros outweight the cons for me hence I still choose pc over console. For me here are Pros and Cons of PC and a console PC Pros: - versatility, customizability - you can do a lot of other things besides gaming - being able to upgrade without needing to buy completely new pc every time - being able to tweak graphics settings in games and get perfomance/fps or visuals of your preference rather than being stuck at same preset settings - you can run games at better graphics and/or higher fps than on consoles asuming you have a decent pc - being able to stream and/or record games without needing any extra accessory. If you wanted to stream/record on console you would need pc anyway and on top of it you would still need to buy capture card - being able to game on both mouse and keyboard and use any controller of your preference (playstation, xbox, switch or any other controllers all work on pc) - being able to use both monitor and tv at the same time and can even use multiple screens at the same time - cheaper games and free online. Some games are even given away for completely free such as on Epic. Now the pc itself is still a lot more expensive but this factor eventually bridges the gap on total spendings between console and pc - mods - games on pc usually age better also thanks to graphics mods which are basically like unofficial remasters so even some old games can still look good thanks to them. Heck some of the graphics mods the better job than some official remasters. GTA trilogy is perfect example. And you dont even need to rebuy the game again like you have to with remasters - emulation of older consoles that have games that arent available anymore on modern consoles - above point also brings out the fact that on PC I never need to worry about backward compatibility and can keep playing my games pretty much forever. Also steam is not going away anytime soon yet you never know when they close online service for consoles. Nintendo is already doing it with Wii u and 3ds online shops - having pc versions of the games give you more options of where you can play them. You can even play them on the phone thanks to geeforce now, or on a weaker laptop or even some modern TVs have it now. Or you can play them on the steam deck so you can play them on the go. You wouldnt have this option if you had playstation/xbox versions PC Cons: - more expensive - some bad pc ports that can cause issues like stuttering and other perfomance problems even on otherwise powerful pcs - having to use multiple launchers for games and having to reqister on every single one of them which can sometimes be a hassle - potential drivers issues that can cause game crashes etc. which you then have to do your own research and troubleshooting to fix it which can be frustrating especially for someone who isnt a "tech" person - more likely to meet cheaters/hackes when playing games online Console Pros: - cheaper - simple plug and play, ease of use and overall more user friendly especially for casuals - exclusive games. Then again not sure if this is a point for console because pc still has a lot of games that arent on consoles and consoles today have a lot less exclusives than 10+ years ago and even those eventually get ported to pc - unlikely to have issues like game crashes - less likely to meet cheaters/hackers online Console Cons: - being stuck at preset settings for games. Some games force you to play at 30 fps and theres nothing you can do about it - in general lower fps and lower graphics than on a good pc - only being able to play with controller that came with the console. Strategy games and shooter games is a night and day difference on mouse/keyboard vs controller. While you technically can use mouse/keyboard on console but lets be real no one does that when playing on a couch - more expensive games and you have to pay to be able to play games online - theres only so much disc space you can expand upon - you dont know if you will be able to play your games on future generations of consoles. PS5 is backwards compatible with ps4 but its not with ps3,2,1 and ps4 isnt even backward compatible with ps3. So you will still need multiple consoles to be able to play games across all generations and have to use seperate controllers for each one and it will be even more in the future generations which alone is just more hassle and annoyance(and your tv will run out of enough hdmi ports eventually so you still wont be able to play all of them) - you dont know if the online services will stay - less options overall I choose PC and dont mind paying more because all the extra options, versatility, being able to run games at higher fps and having everything on one platform makes it worth it for me.
I'd like to point out that bit where you mention it being impossible to build a PC with the same specs as current consoles at the same price point. All consoles are sold at a huge loss as it likely costs about $800 per console for them to manufacture and then sell it to you for only $500. It's pretty similar to how the inkjet printer scene works. HP sells you a nice $50, all in one, wifi printer, scanner, fax machine combo that costs them $200 to manufacture complete with almost empty ink cartridges that you most certainly will need to replace within the first month of use. In the long run they make up for that loss on the printer sale by overcharging you for miniscule amounts of ink that constantly need to be replaced in the same way that console manufacturers make you pay more for games, peripherals and online features access.
Im 49 and have been gaming since Atari 2600 in 1979. I stopped buying consoles after PS4. Im just stuck at paying $1500 to $2000 on a pc. I miss gaming.. its just too much money
@2:11 Not to mention Windows! Even if you match the specs, windows is so horrendously bad it’s going to run the games much worse. I’m building a PC right now for my kids. Based on the benchmarks and tests I’ve seen you really need to spend a minimum of about $1,200 to get the same real world performance as a current generation consoles. These hardware companies have to start working together to compete against consoles if they want to be sustainable. Because right now they seem to be working together to gouge die hard PC users and console gamers that are just assuming any PC is going to be way better than their consoles. People will be disillusioned eventually, and the small fraction of die hard won’t be enough to keep PC gaming viable. Outside of small budget indie games anyway. Great video!
- too expensive (only if you aim to play the newest AAA games, indies and AA games usally run on a budget GPU. mine is an RTX 3060, and everything is runs just fine) - bad pc ports (maybe, but thx to the growing indie market, you don't need to rely only on PC ports. also you can play retro games more easily than you could on consoles) - driver updates (idk, i only needed to do it once in evry year, and everything its never a problem) - too many game launchers (sure, but you can decide wich ones are you gonna use. for example, i only use STEAM and GOG) in steam, i have my main game libary, and in gog, i have a libary dedicated to retro games... also, you had more freedom in pc. - what OS do you plan to use, (windows for general gaming, linux for emulation) - how do you get your game, (purchase in launcher, use key sites, pirate it) - free multiplayer... just saying. - you can use ANY periferia for games. (i using a custom RGB controller, that has custom mapable buttons, and its compatibile with nintendo switch and pc alike) - you can build your pc for your own purpose, so you don't need to upgrade hardware so often. for example, i have a 20 TB HDD since i like to have a lot of thing installed at once, but i only have a decent graphic card, since i don't play the newest AAA games that often. i more of a AA and Indie enjoyer... so overall, currently the PC is SUPERIOR compared to modern consoles. but as a PC gamer, i still has consoles, just not modern ones. thats why my last console is the PS3, that had free online multiplayer, and has exclusives that are hard to emulate. for example, my favorite game series: Skylanders...
Lol. Ok glad you’re happier now. I’m not sure why so many people comment above my hair. Baldness is fairly common lol. But I’m glad you like it better this way. It’s all I’ve got lol 😂
I agree with all your points. I just bought a 4080 and I am in aw of the performance lift I got in 4k vs the 3080 I have. I also felt the same exact way when I upgrade from my 2070 super to my 3080. Both times in less than 2 years before I felt the urge/need to upgrade because I could already see with new titles fps and performance starting to drop some. Now owning a 4080 the thought has creeped into my mind “man how long will it be before I feel that urge to upgrade again”. It’s the burden of pc gaming but honestly I think it has been worth it for me as a gamer and I won’t be going back to console.
Good vid I agree sometimes the problems with PC can be frustrating but I still would rather deal with that including the high prices over console gaming they are just so locked down I might not even finish god of war ragnarok or horizon forbidden west on my PS5 cause the fov is so close you can’t see anything I am really bout to sell my PS5 I have found my self forcing myself to play it lol
Even though series S is the "common denominator" (which I don't think it is due to poor Xbox sales overall), the PC market isn't fully invested at the most expensive graphics cards either.
If you watch what you are doing, it is the initial cost that sucks. I had a R5 3600 on a decent B550 motherboard but was still using a Sapphire Vega 56 (Mining price hike). Finally the Gigabyte RX 6700xt came down to reference price and it has WindForce 3X cooler. Picked that GPU up. Later AMD announced the new 7000 series CPU and I would need a new motherboard. Few days later Newegg made a mistake and sent me a sale email that had the R7 5700x for like $189 and that was like $80 less than Amazon wanted back then. Picked that part up and kept my motherboard. You may like to play RPG's when you game. But PC hardware is a game of strategy. ; )
Oh I love PC for sure. No doubt. I just wanted to present both sides of the argument. I have done multiple videos on why PC is better. So it was time to discuss the issues. Pricing is definitely an issue. But you’re right. Once you get past the initial cost, the pro’s significantly out weigh the cons.
Some Small mistakes: - You listed a Ryzen 7 5700x and 6700xt which is miles ahead of ps5/xbox SX's CPU and GPU. But yes you are right GPU prices are still too high in EU/rest of the world. I would suggest getting a 6600xt/6650xt level of GPU (or a 3070) and atleast a modern Ryzen 5 or i5 to get through this console generation. - Last of us part 1 is a remake made specifically for PS5. The 4k MAX settings @ 60fps+ needing a 4080 is not surprising. Seems like people who bought 3060, 3060ti and 3070 expected RT all throughout this console generation are getting scammed.
You’re not the only person to correct me on the last of us “remake” vs “remaster”. Either way, it doesn’t matter. The PC specs list are ridiculous. That game was in development before the 4080 was even announced. So how in the world is the 4080 expected for 4K 60? That makes no sense. When gamers buy high end hardware like a 4080 or 4090, we want to run the latest games at 4K Ultra and get well over 100 fps for at least a year. These cards are only a few months old. So at that point, what’s the point? As for the hardware, I just knew eventually someone would say “that hardware doesn’t equal a console.” Well, respectfully I disagree because I’ve done the research and I’ve already made a whole video talking about how powerful a PC should be and how it relates to a console. I will link that video down below so you can go listen to my reasoning. In short, consoles are using AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture and the CPU is 8 cores. Technically speaking, from a CPU perspective, you would want something like a 3700x to match that. However, since those CPUs are not made new anymore, you have to buy those second hand. Plus those CPUs are very expensive now second hand. So realistically, you’re better off getting a 5000 series CPU. Again, in the video, I specifically said “match console spec for spec.” So in order to do that you need an 8 core AMD CPU. The 5700x is the cheapest logical option. As for the GPU, again, I did a video about this already. It explains the compute units and Tera flop specs of the consoles. The 6700 XT makes the most sense. I do agree with you that you can get lower spec hardware and be totally fine. 100%. You are correct. However, the more you do that, the more you open yourself up to lowering the settings and using upscaling. But with the hardware I listed, the cost was $584 I believe if I am remembering correctly. So if I did your hardware specs, what would that save the user? Maybe a hundred bucks? Either way, you’re close to that $500 total still for just two components. I love PC. I think it’s better than console. I’m just stating the fact that the pricing has gotten utterly ridiculous. ua-cam.com/video/RUSaBf3fTXA/v-deo.html
Unfortunately console set the standard I seriously feel Devs do not optimize console port PC right. There are no backbone its like they don't care which can be frustrating at time. I will continue to game on PC majority of the time. Great video man
I'm new to pc info but it seems like an abusive relationship 70 percent of the time it's just fixing issues that mostly shouldn't exist. But the 30 percent where everything is going well it goes REALLY GOOD.
@@ErockOnTech Thats a relief lol.I do have one big question though about pc ports. Do most get fixed and if so what's the avg time for a bad port to be fixed? Is it 6 months or a year. That can really affect pc gaming since if you are at the point of having enough money for a pc you probably have a console and might be tempted to buy a new game on console just to play it without waiting months.
@@lovingdemon2932 Most bad PC ports do get fixed. Most. Not all. As for a time frame, it depends. Cyberpunk 2077 took about a year. Hogwarts Legacy received updates for about 2 months straight. Now nothing. It’s relatively stable. It seems like the support may be done.
If you play video games regularly as a hobby then PC will always be cheaper over time. It's not like console manufacturers make their hardware cheap out of the goodness of their heart. They subsidize it. As a result, consoles have far fewer sales than on PC, new games cost more than the PC version, and playing online costs a subscription fee. You don't get regular giveaways like you do on PC due to competing stores either, Amazon Prime only gives you PC games, HumbleBundle is also exclusively PC, there's just not whole lot of options to actually save money on gaming after the console hardware purchase. Anyways, if you live in the US, Europe or Asia, then PC gaming is actually pretty cheap right now thanks to the Steam Deck. Also, your PC doesn't need to be powerful to enjoy games.
Many of these points I made in my other videos that I referenced in this video. I’ve covered why PC is better than console in two other videos now. You’re right about the game costs and online subscription fees for sure. I can’t stand the thought of paying to play my games online.
Yeah thats why I prefer paying more for pc first but then not need to worry about spending a lot for few years. With new games on ps5 now costing 80 will add up fast and I would find it very annoying having to spend that much every time new game comes out.
I have to say that even though there are certain issues on pc that are annoying but for me the pros still outweight the cons on pc vs console hence pc will probably remain my main platform forever. Not to mention I have over 100 games on steam at this point which I will keep forever and not have to ever worry about any backward compatibility. Theres no way ill ever move on to console.
Sorry I missed the debut, actually was offline most of the weekend for once lol. Only problem I have with PC is, and always will be, controller support.
I have been a PC gamer my whole life and I do think PC gaming is better when it come to graphics and high fps/refresh gaming but lately I feel like game developers care more about consoles. For example, hogwarts legacy is a stuttery mess on my Ryzen 7 7700X and RTX 4090 to the point where I don't even enjoy playing it (I'm just going to wait for them to fix all the bugs). Same thing with Forza Horizon 5, when it launched (I had a 3070 Ti at the time) stutter every 30 seconds to a minute and that is very annoying. I just started playing it again 3 month ago and it looks like they fixed the stutters because now the game runs perfectly fine. I just feel like generally games run better/smoother on consoles even if the graphics are slightly worse.
So for starters, developers do care more about consoles. Like I said in the video, consoles set the standard. Consoles are their bread and butter. PC is the after thought sadly. I have a 5800X3D and a 4080. Hogwarts runs fine for me. Maybe there are some Windows settings you need to enable or disable. Do you have hardware Accelerated GPU scheduling enabled? Do you have game mode in windows enabled? Also, this is for Hogwarts Legacy specifically. Do this trick at the start of this video. Let me know if it helps.
@@ErockOnTech This is basically my biggest problem with PC gaming at the moment. I shouldn't have to play with any windows settings just to make the game playable, you know what I mean. Games like red dead redemption 2, call of duty modern warfare 2, dirt 5, spiderman remastered run perfectly fine. I haven't tried hogwarts legacy since launch day but I will watch the video you posted, update the game and give it another shot.
@@lisek99201 one other note with Hogwarts Legacy is it likes to default to “Ultra” settings. But Ultra is noticeably broken in that game. So be sure you’re not playing on the Ultra preset. Also, I think games on PC that have a console version should have a “console settings” preset. That way you can choose the console settings and be just fine always.
I can't believe how pitiful the software for this amazing hardware is. Raytracing doesn't make games fun. Returnal rhymes with urinal. All these RE remakes are getting pretty re re since all they are really adding is microtransactions. When the most fun on PC are in games like HADES or Hollow Knight, I have to conclude that gaming needs to calm down on ALL platforms and these AAA developers are oblivious to what makes a game good. Meanwhile we have indie devs getting greedy and ruining their own development cycles by signing too many deals. Why game at all?
Nowadays PC gaming is just getting expensive, and games that is ported into PC are also expensive. Everything PC related are expensive. The monitor, keyboard, and mouse not to mention high end stuff. But people love to bite on it, it is just BS now.
As a new PC gamer I really enjoy your videos E. Glad I made the switch from Console. Although I’m not selling my Series X or PS5. Darn those PlayStation exclusives!
@@ErockOnTech Yeah I guess older xbox games arent on pc. Then again you can technically still play them on pc through xcloud. You have to pay for gamepass ultimate though and rely on internet connection but older gears of wars actually can be played on pc with xcloud.
PC gaming is definitely not perfect but after switching during the ps4 and xbone era I still can’t go back to console. I think when it comes to pc gaming people just need to be reasonable with their expectations and know that there is a certain thing called diminishing returns. A 4090 is great today but will likely be the 5070 tomorrow. So always keep things in mind. I do believe consoles have their place. But for me I can never go back.
Hey definitely don’t get me wrong. I also switched to PC during the Xbox one and PS4 era. I also prefer PC. I love PC and I will never go back. My PS5 collects dust. But I was asked to make a video about the negatives of PC. Like you said, it’s not perfect.
For me the price isnt such frustrating .. ive bought r9 5950x and rtx 3090 combo with 32gigs of ram for 1300€ of course used .. but what really annoys me is problems with gpus and games instability ... you buy expensive gpu for 1300- 2000€ and you want the best performance and then u must undervolt the gpu because its like on fire and vents go crazy like turbines or u must downclock the core because boost makes games crash like metro exodus callisto protocol etc. or u hear reaaly annoying coil whine which u cannot solve and so much other problems with crashing game so gaming on pc i think is totally uncomfortable everyday im finding new and new problems with gaming on pc and this really convincing me more and more to play on console... its much much much more comfortable gaming than on pc ... sometimes gaming on pc is for me literally the pain ...
I don't know, I got a gaming Mini Gaming PC for 1000 dollars. But the Graphic card was about 300 dollars. Its not the highest end. But it works fine. Been playing Cyberpunk 2077 on it for the last month. And i only play on 1080p tv. I really don't care that much about 4k, 120fps or whatever. I just want to play the fucking games. One great thing about PC games. Is all the Indie games, old school PC Games, Emulation, that don't really require that much power anyways. The main reason for me to own PC is the Games are Cheaper. There more choice as to where buy them and then stuff like mods that cant do on Console.
Excellent video. You responded to a previous comment of mine why I'm looking at a PS5, as a lifelong PC gamer, and this video pretty much sums up why. Looking at the performance specs for TLoU, for example, I'd need to maybe upgrade my CPU (I have a 5600 non X), but certainly I'd need to upgrade the RAM at $160 AUD for the same 2 x 8GB kit I currently have, and I'd need to upgrade my GPU at over $1000 AUD for a 6800 (can't find a 6750XT here), and I just don't have the money for those, but I do for a PS5. Right now PC is pricing itself out of the market, especially for a decent well performing mid range 4-5 year PC. Edit: I'd also like to point to Hogwarts Legacy as another recent poor port due to poor optimisation.
Yeah Hogwarts Legacy was a rough launch performance wise. But it’s better now after some patches. And I agree about the pricing. PC parts are too expensive. It’s getting old fast.
launchers are really frustrating, try playing ubisoft games on pc. its just better to pirate them and just play, instead of buying from steam and logging in/loggin out/updating launcher/not able to connect online/just straight up refusing to launch for an hour
You are right and you are also wrong. You don't have to spend $2,500 to get a decent gaming computer. I think most players like myself are happy to have a PC that can run a triple A game at 1080P and get 60 to 75 FPS. My HP gaming PC cost me $550 and I added a 2TB SSD witch brought the price up to $690. My PC came with a Ryzen 5-5600G processor and a Radeon RX5500 graphics card. I can run games like Red Dead Redemption 2 , Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3 & Shadow of the Tomb Raider on high settings and get 75FPS and I can hook it up to my 4K TV and play at 1440P and get 55FPS witch too me and a lot of other players is fine. One downside to buying a super expensive PC with all the bells and whistles is you'll also have to buy a 4K monitor and they are not cheap. I enjoyed the video & keep up the good work
I needed a new pc and wanted to play horizon 5. my calculations were that a pc would cost me about 1300€ or a console 450 + office pc 600 and i could game in my living room and the pc stays in the office. Guess what i did
The problem with pc gaming is expectations. A PS5/XSX is equivalent to a rtx 2060. It uses “tricks” like upscaling, dynamic resolution, and lower graphical presets, and even then it only gets 30-60 fps. However, pc gamers want maxed out “ultra” graphical presets in native 1440p/4k and high refresh rates. That is very demanding. So you need much higher hardware to play the “same” games. Also, when comparing pc to consoles, we forget that console manufacturers lower the price to get their money back in the games and subscriptions. Just compare the prices of games in steam to the playstation store. The money you “save” buying the console, you’ll spend it in a ps plus subscription, and overpriced games.
Oh you’re definitely right. I made these same points in a similar way in my other 2 videos I referred to in this video. PC is better. No doubt. But it’s not perfect. This video was made to address the issues. But as you saw, it’s really only two big issues. That’s it.
Yeah there ain't no way my broke *ss is affording a whole PC, been enjoying the hell out of playing COD BOCW @1440p, @120 FPS/hz, with Full MnK support on Series X tho, makes me wish more game devs'd add MnK support but oh well!🤷♂️
I already need a PC for work and other stuff whereas a console would only be useful for gaming. Even if the PC is more expensive, part of the cost is for other uses. I wouldn't buy a console that is mostly for playing games.
Games need to be developed on PC again. Not only that, games that are developed on poor mans hardware, should be made to run on similar performing HW. If it can run on a PS5, it should run on a 2080/6700xt with similar performance
I'm not so sure, I was wanting something to game on and looked into a PS5 and it was $650, it is as out of reach as a Gaming PC is. They both cost a lot but I agree PC is so much better.
That''s nice. Three things I'd like to point out though: First, Xbox Series X is $600 without taking into account the fact that you have to pay separately for multiplayer. Or the fact that you'll have to re-buy most of your games when an upgrade comes out, games which also tend to cost more on consoles, often significantly (more on that later). Second, you don't need the latest and greatest hardware to outperform a Series X or PS5 Pro, especially now with AI upscaling tech like FSR and DLSS having infected the PC market as well, unfortunately. It's easier than ever to match console level performance, a 7900XTX is for someone who wants to run games on Ultra native 4K at 60+ FPS with a pile of mods slapped on top. The framerate alone is twice what the consoles deliver, not to mention all the shit you can do on a PC that you can't on a console... such as running console games. Third, and personally I would lead with this: You don't have to pay for games. In fact, chances are you'll get a better experience if you don't, given how bloated with DRM many PC ports tend to be nowadays. If you don't like a game or a publisher, just don't pay for it, it's that simple.
Oh I love PC for sure. No doubt. I just wanted to present both sides of the argument. I have done multiple videos on why PC is better. So it was time to discuss the issues. Pricing is definitely an issue. The MSRP of the Xbox Series X is $500 not $600. I see the console for MSRP in my local market all the time. But maybe your local market is different. You don’t need the latest and greatest hardware. That’s for sure. But you do at least need a 20 series GPU or a 6000 series GPU to utilize the upscaling capabilities. I showed a basic build in the video. It was $500 alone just for the CPU and GPU combo. Could you go lower? Probably. But I wouldn’t recommend it.
High-end PC was always way too expensive and from many of those PC vs console discussions I have a feeling that you have to have the most expensive parts on the market otherwise you won't enjoy gaming which is wrong. Console HW is under-priced but they will get it from you via subscription and more expensive games so in long run they pretty much even out comparatively powerful PC but with major drawbacks like limited backward compatibility, no mods, limited game selection etc. I always go for mid-class PC. I have huge library of games thanks to bundles and discounts that I didn't play all of them. There are growing indie dev scene that makes interesting and often not really HW demanding games. With so many games around it's not problem to simply skip the newest AAA that would run poorly and wait till and get a new mid-class PC a few years later and play those games that by that time would be discounted, patched and with extra DLCs.
@@EthanClassetti they have but not that often and in general you can get better deals sooner on PC, let alone free games on Epic each week and humble bundles.
There's more PC gamers than Xbox+PS users combined. The problem is that it's way easier to develop for console than all the other possible PC parts combinations.
Yeah I don’t know about that. Money talks. Usually, the traffic is where the money is. All developers and publishers prioritize console. Regardless of the reason; it’s annoying.
Well many people built a PC a few years ago. Prices were a lot better back then. Now it’s time for an upgrade and they are completely shocked at the pricing. As stated in the video, the $500 console killer PC was a thing for years. Imagine being able to to build a PC for $500 that outperforms current consoles. That would be a tremendous value. But now it costs a minimum of $800 just to match console these days. PC part prices need to drop.
@@ErockOnTech I agree with you, but if they can't afford a PC maybe they should just stay with console. Because building a computer requires a good job and not for people living at home with their parents not making any money.
VRAM issues are probably the most worrysome problem in PC gaming. The 3080 10 GB is already running into VRAM limitations in newer games at 4K res. Consoles are great, I have a PS5 and series x and use them a lot and could probably play exclusively on console if I never had tried out PC gaming. Console gaming is also a lot faster to get into games. You don't need launch Steam, just pop right into the game after a few seconds of boot time. Keyboard and mouse is too good for competetive FPS games, but even consoles support KB+Mouse in many games these days. My guess is PC gaming will phase out at some point because all the same features will be on consoles at some point.
Most features will probably be on console, except everything else that a PC can do (making things of all kinds for example) and the freedom. But beyond that, for gaming and peripherals yeah, probably.
Yep. Someone else just clarified that for me. I’m sure more people will make that distinction for me as well. It doesn’t change the fact that the PC requirements are ridiculous.
The mods are great in a lot of cases better than the games , or they add a ton of content to a game as well as fix tech issues. Personally i like PC gaming better, it is flexible and you can really customize your set up to play how you want it to perform. If you build or get a good enough Pc that plays games well it really doesn;t have to break the bank . I am a little bit older of a gamer so playing on high settings is fine by me .
The argument that PC pricing is too expensive never bought a 80286 for $5000 USD in 1988. PC gaming has become wildly, wildly more affordable over the decades. There was a time a two year old PC was no longer even able to run the newest titles, now a mid range PC has years of life due to many factors like upper and lower quality settings, improved overall PC power and optimisation. This point is not to disagree with the video, the points in the video are correct, but there is some context here for some of the younger people making the argument for consoles to keep in mind.
One of the biggest things people don't realize and that games on PC are different than consoles. Variable resolutions, framerates, uncompressed hi res textures... if a feveloper does try its going to play like garbage
I disagree with pricing,Used market become extremely affordable last couple month. You can get 5700xt for 150 usd that capable of 4k/VR and cheap ryzen 3***-5*** and build a very capable pc for 500-600$ now
Well, that really depends on how you look at it. First of all, not everyone is comfortable buying used. Even if they are comfortable buying used, you still have the problem of varying markets. Your local used market is not my local used market. So when discussing pricing, it’s best to use a metric that is applicable to everyone. Therefore, we look at retail pricing. Retail pricing is awful.

@@heronik79 that’s quite unfortunate about the Steam Deck. Very sorry to hear that. Good luck on getting it fixed.
Sadly it is not the PC platform that's the problem. It is the companies and developers that are purposely making it look awful by overpricing the parts and making some games not run to its full potential.
You’re right.
Don't blame the devs.
They have been tweaking the shit out of many games just do we can stagnate on an 8 gig VRAM standard for the past 8 years.

The thing about console is just boot it up, sit on a couch and relax and play for half an hour. That feeling just doesn’t happen for me in pc. I dont care about frames, just run my game smooth
I don't care about quality, just play my game in native 4K
I used to be a PC gamer a long time ago. I didn't have much money after that, so switched to PS4, despite I had heard a lot about "huge prices on games". But years later, I have 120+ games in my library, and I've spent just 20% more than it is on PC. Just a year ago I've got a new job, more income etc, so I've thought - let's move on to "true gaming" on PC. I have never been so wrong... When I configured the PC (in the PC configurator site) I've dreamed about, I was shocked. 7800x3d + 4080 + quality other parts (but not top tier) ~ $3.000
And this PC isn't possible to handle everything in 4K 60FPS on Ultra. I have to manage my settings 🤦
And I'm not a teenager anymore with unlimited time to play. I have 2 hours per day at MAX. $3.000 for 2 hours playing. Seems like I have to wait for the next gen to make the previous one affordable.
That's why you need a 4090.
The world economy is definitely bad for sure.
Consumers are mainly paying for the R&D and marketing costs for the most part.
It’s sad.
@@ErockOnTech but if you buy older gen or used the price is not bad for 1080p gaming
You’re right about ultra vs high. It’s more of a mindset thing that needs to shift in PC gamer’s minds. I didn’t know all that about sports games.
my golden rule for unoptimised games is ignore them on launch dates and past 6 months forward they are optimised and 15 or more dollar cheaper :D
Thanks for covering this topic. It was an honest, thoughtful breakdown on some of the barriers for entry into PC gaming.
Thank you for the comment and for watching! Yeah I love PC gaming and I think it’s the best option but it’s not perfect.
Amen! I agree 10000000%!
Yeah that’s a valid point. It’s just when you pay $1000 or more for a GPU, you want some legs on it if you know what I mean.
@@FIVESTRZ yeah you’re right. I have a new video dropping tomorrow about the last of us and the 4080. At 4K, it’s brutal.
@@ErockOnTech bout to look for it now.
@@FIVESTRZ thank you. Did you see it?
About Wo Long on PC, I had the same stuck in a black screen listening to a dragon issue. I had to install VP9 video extension for the cutscenes to start playing. Really scuffed stuff.
Wait what? Really? That’s so messed up wow. Thanks for this information. I had no idea.
I definitely think PC is better than console. But PC isn’t perfect. It definitely has some issues.
Lol Square Ports are pretty bad. The initial launch of Nier Replicant turned me into the Flash
40 series cards are far too expensive here. The cheapest 4090 here in the UK costs about £1,600 ($1,957) 😵💫
Wow that’s insane! That proves my point. Too expensive.
The cheapest price I saw a few days ago was 1700€.
A 4090 strix is $3599 in Australia which is $2390USD.
We pay over a thousand dollars for top of the line CPUs.
And you can easily spend over 10 grand on a complete setup here.
It's absolutely ridiculous
@@BockworschtSoldier wow.
@@GregoryShtevensh that is just awful. Absolutely awful. Is it cheaper to import?
Im not sure if i want to move to PC because of one main issue. Shader compilation Stutters. I absolutely hate stutters and it seems to be a growing issue on PC
It’s definitely been an issue lately.
@@ErockOnTech Yeah well ive decided now and im gonna make the move, im just mainly going to avoid Unreal Engine 4 games
Pc just is't my speed. I had laptops and pc's, tbh I hated it only for league and UA-cam. Consles are better imo
Is this a haiku or something?

GPU prices are absurd. Motherboard prices have become absurd. CPU cooler prices have become absurd.
Other part prices are reasonable.
I agree.
You’re right for sure. If someone can afford all platforms, then that’s the way to do it for sure.
My scalper price ps5 disagrees and 80$ black ds5 controller. Consoles last decades mo hardware and software problems every couple of months
For me here are Pros and Cons of PC and a console
PC Pros:
- versatility, customizability
- you can do a lot of other things besides gaming
- being able to upgrade without needing to buy completely new pc every time
- being able to tweak graphics settings in games and get perfomance/fps or visuals of your preference rather than being stuck at same preset settings
- you can run games at better graphics and/or higher fps than on consoles asuming you have a decent pc
- being able to stream and/or record games without needing any extra accessory. If you wanted to stream/record on console you would need pc anyway and on top of it you would still need to buy capture card
- being able to game on both mouse and keyboard and use any controller of your preference (playstation, xbox, switch or any other controllers all work on pc)
- being able to use both monitor and tv at the same time and can even use multiple screens at the same time
- cheaper games and free online. Some games are even given away for completely free such as on Epic. Now the pc itself is still a lot more expensive but this factor eventually bridges the gap on total spendings between console and pc
- mods
- games on pc usually age better also thanks to graphics mods which are basically like unofficial remasters so even some old games can still look good thanks to them. Heck some of the graphics mods the better job than some official remasters. GTA trilogy is perfect example. And you dont even need to rebuy the game again like you have to with remasters
- emulation of older consoles that have games that arent available anymore on modern consoles
- above point also brings out the fact that on PC I never need to worry about backward compatibility and can keep playing my games pretty much forever. Also steam is not going away anytime soon yet you never know when they close online service for consoles. Nintendo is already doing it with Wii u and 3ds online shops
- having pc versions of the games give you more options of where you can play them. You can even play them on the phone thanks to geeforce now, or on a weaker laptop or even some modern TVs have it now. Or you can play them on the steam deck so you can play them on the go. You wouldnt have this option if you had playstation/xbox versions
PC Cons:
- more expensive
- some bad pc ports that can cause issues like stuttering and other perfomance problems even on otherwise powerful pcs
- having to use multiple launchers for games and having to reqister on every single one of them which can sometimes be a hassle
- potential drivers issues that can cause game crashes etc. which you then have to do your own research and troubleshooting to fix it which can be frustrating especially for someone who isnt a "tech" person
- more likely to meet cheaters/hackes when playing games online
Console Pros:
- cheaper
- simple plug and play, ease of use and overall more user friendly especially for casuals
- exclusive games. Then again not sure if this is a point for console because pc still has a lot of games that arent on consoles and consoles today have a lot less exclusives than 10+ years ago and even those eventually get ported to pc
- unlikely to have issues like game crashes
- less likely to meet cheaters/hackers online
Console Cons:
- being stuck at preset settings for games. Some games force you to play at 30 fps and theres nothing you can do about it
- in general lower fps and lower graphics than on a good pc
- only being able to play with controller that came with the console. Strategy games and shooter games is a night and day difference on mouse/keyboard vs controller. While you technically can use mouse/keyboard on console but lets be real no one does that when playing on a couch
- more expensive games and you have to pay to be able to play games online
- theres only so much disc space you can expand upon
- you dont know if you will be able to play your games on future generations of consoles. PS5 is backwards compatible with ps4 but its not with ps3,2,1 and ps4 isnt even backward compatible with ps3. So you will still need multiple consoles to be able to play games across all generations and have to use seperate controllers for each one and it will be even more in the future generations which alone is just more hassle and annoyance(and your tv will run out of enough hdmi ports eventually so you still wont be able to play all of them)
- you dont know if the online services will stay
- less options overall
I choose PC and dont mind paying more because all the extra options, versatility, being able to run games at higher fps and having everything on one platform makes it worth it for me.
I agree PC is better. That’s why I have 2 dedicated videos explaining why PC is better. But yeah there are pros and cons for sure.
- too expensive (only if you aim to play the newest AAA games, indies and AA games usally run on a budget GPU. mine is an RTX 3060, and everything is runs just fine)
- bad pc ports (maybe, but thx to the growing indie market, you don't need to rely only on PC ports. also you can play retro games more easily than you could on consoles)
- driver updates (idk, i only needed to do it once in evry year, and everything its never a problem)
- too many game launchers (sure, but you can decide wich ones are you gonna use. for example, i only use STEAM and GOG)
in steam, i have my main game libary, and in gog, i have a libary dedicated to retro games...
also, you had more freedom in pc.
- what OS do you plan to use, (windows for general gaming, linux for emulation)
- how do you get your game, (purchase in launcher, use key sites, pirate it)
- free multiplayer... just saying.
- you can use ANY periferia for games. (i using a custom RGB controller, that has custom mapable buttons, and its compatibile with nintendo switch and pc alike)
- you can build your pc for your own purpose, so you don't need to upgrade hardware so often.
for example, i have a 20 TB HDD since i like to have a lot of thing installed at once, but i only have a decent graphic card, since i don't play the newest AAA games that often.
i more of a AA and Indie enjoyer...
so overall, currently the PC is SUPERIOR compared to modern consoles.
but as a PC gamer, i still has consoles, just not modern ones. thats why my last console is the PS3, that had free online multiplayer, and has exclusives that are hard to emulate.
for example, my favorite game series: Skylanders...
Glad you shaved your head...the thinning hair was triggering my OCD

biggest problem is setting and the sick prices these days to game normal
For me, the ability to mod makes it all worth it.
Well said! I have nothing else to add here. You said it all! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! Enjoy your 4080!
I agree. I love PC! I definitely prefer it and think it’s the best for sure. My PS5 collects dust for the most part. It was a bad purchase for me.
You can build an $500 pc matching the current consoles that's only if you have an monitor and mouse of course though.
Even though series S is the "common denominator" (which I don't think it is due to poor Xbox sales overall), the PC market isn't fully invested at the most expensive graphics cards either.
Great video the pc port problem really sucks but thats just something PC player have to deal with
Thank you! Yeah PC ports are terrible these days. I can’t believe how little devs care about PC.
Some Small mistakes:
- You listed a Ryzen 7 5700x and 6700xt which is miles ahead of ps5/xbox SX's CPU and GPU.

Unfortunately console set the standard I seriously feel Devs do not optimize console port PC right. There are no backbone its like they don't care which can be frustrating at time. I will continue to game on PC majority of the time. Great video man
Thank you! I agree!
Amazing video on breaking down prices and 10 year analysis.
Thank you!
I'm new to pc info but it seems like an abusive relationship 70 percent of the time it's just fixing issues that mostly shouldn't exist. But the 30 percent where everything is going well it goes REALLY GOOD.
Well, it’s not quite that bad. It’s a lot to learn at first. But once you learn it and set up your PC correctly; then it’s smooth sailing.
Same thing happened to me with Wo Long on game pass. So frustrating.
Very frustrating yes! Apparently, according to another comment I just read, we need to install a VP9 video extension. Ridiculous.
Unoptimized trash. Live the content though. Keep it coming
@@cw4099 Thank you 🙏
If you play video games regularly as a hobby then PC will always be cheaper over time.
Yes only dark side of pc gaming is bad pc port. But yes we have a ton of quality indie games to play on pc
It’s been a while. How are you?
I just feel like generally games run better/smoother on consoles even if the graphics are slightly worse.
i have a 13600K / 4080 rtx, no stutters!
This video: ua-cam.com/video/9FmjGG6mUAA/v-deo.html
Hey since you mentioned your wife has mario themed pc. Are you going to see the upcoming super mario movie?
Yes I am :-)
Nowadays PC gaming is just getting expensive, and games that is ported into PC are also expensive. Everything PC related are expensive. The monitor, keyboard, and mouse not to mention high end stuff. But people love to bite on it, it is just BS now.
The games aren’t so bad. You just have to know where to buy the games from. Look at sites like Greenmangaming and CDKeys.
As a new PC gamer I really enjoy your videos E. Glad I made the switch from Console. Although I’m not selling my Series X or PS5. Darn those PlayStation exclusives!
Thank you! I appreciate that! PlayStation makes some great games.
What about series X? It doesnt have any exclusives. All xbox games are on pc.
@@Marko-ij4vy True. Some older Xbox games haven’t made it to PC yet. For example, not all the Gears of War games are available on PC yet.
@@ErockOnTech Yeah I guess older xbox games arent on pc. Then again you can technically still play them on pc through xcloud. You have to pay for gamepass ultimate though and rely on internet connection but older gears of wars actually can be played on pc with xcloud.
@@Marko-ij4vy good point.
whenever I grab a console controller I feel crippled. This is my only gripe with consoles
Guess what i did
You somehow never learned why it's good to have gaming capability and pc features all in 1 system, for an extra fucking €250
One of the best tech UA-camrs out there
Thank you very much!!
Oh wow $650 for a PS5? That’s awful.
That''s nice. Three things I'd like to point out though:
First, Xbox Series X is $600 without taking into account the fact that you have to pay separately for multiplayer.
Overprice and bad stuttering ports are minor issues? Lmao
I never said those issues were minor and I do not agree with that.
Most people buying a PC know it's expensive, that's why you save up and buy one component at a time.
@@Rockett16 That’s a fair point as well.
The new The Last of us is a remake not a remaster
Yep. Someone else just clarified that for me. I’m sure more people will make that distinction for me as well. It doesn’t change the fact that the PC requirements are ridiculous.
that's very ture
The mods are great in a lot of cases better than the games , or they add a ton of content to a game as well as fix tech issues. Personally i like PC gaming better, it is flexible and you can really customize your set up to play how you want it to perform. If you build or get a good enough Pc that plays games well it really doesn;t have to break the bank . I am a little bit older of a gamer so playing on high settings is fine by me .
Console gaming has plateaued and is on the decline compared to past numbers. If anything I see developers prioritizing PC, cloud and mobile very soon.
Do you mean if a developer doesn’t try?
@ErockOnDeck yes, I have trouble typing on a cell phone, and my dyslexia means I don't always catch my errors.
@@gageous8306 that’s totally fine. I just wanted to make sure I understood.
I love PCs the only reason I still use my Xbox is because I spent money on games and I would rather not rebuy them on my pc
The same can be said for consoles in the used market
Man I can't imagine How much $$$ you have spent for all consoles / pc / games
