Lana Del Rey - Shades Of Cool (Lyrics)
My baby lives in shades of blue
Blue eyes and jazz and attitude
He lives in California, too
He drives a Chevy Malibu
And when he calls, he calls for me and not for you
He lives for love, he loves his drugs, he loves his baby, too
But I can't fix him, can't make him better
And I can't do nothing about his strange weather
But you are invincible
I can't break through your world
'Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable
My baby lives in shades of cold
Cold heart and hands and aptitude
He lives for love, for women, too
I'm one of many, Bonnie's blue
And when he calls, he calls for me and not for you
He prays for love, he prays for peace, and maybe someone new
But I can't help him, can't make him better
And I can't do nothing about his strange weather
'Cause you are invincible
I can't break through your world
'Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable
Your hot, hot weather in the summer
Hot, hot, neglectful lover
Hot, hot weather in the summer
High, neglectful lover
You're crumbling, sadly
You're sadly, crumbling
You are invincible
I can't break through your world
'Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable
Pa pa da pa
Pa pa da ah, oh
Oh, oh

god this woman makes no bad songs, the more i get into her discography, the better her songs get it’s crazy
Ikr! Same thing happened with me when I first listened to her.
First song I heard was Video games and time kinda stopped
Right!
Same here. I thought "Born to die" was good but I didn't expect "Ultraviolence" to be that awesome. I'm excited for the next album of her discography.
@@andyba.8501’ve probably misinterpreted this but you know she has 5-6 more albums right?
Edit: thanks to this comment Andy eventually became one of my best friends. Love you bro, thanks for everything
Ultraviolence is such a great album
Every song and it’s even better once a little THC has kicked in.
Better than BTD tbh, fite me hoes

Lust for Life is her best, i'm prepared to battle anyone

The blue reflecting off the eyes at the beginning when the song starts always gets me….
Lana is legendary.
Lana wasn't made for this time. It's like she time traveled. We're so lucky to be blessed with such a perfect human.
She was a made for a place with no time, she should have been born into the immortal universe to bless the heavens for eternity. Instead the gods gave us queen to fix our tragic earth. She is the gift born from the heavens.
Her voice is literally what an angel probably sounds like when you're standing at the gates of heaven
always be skeptical when such a beautiful visage comes your way. Always remember the tales of the sirens in the writings of Homer, and let us not forget delilah. There is much wisdom there my young padawan.
I feel like crying, she's so perfect.
Amen
I will never forget the energy of listening to this on vinyl while on a farm as a teenager in high-school
That sounds amazing
Omg slay
100% vibe
damn i wish
me type of thing
I can't stop noticing how all of her features are so perfectly sculpted like the actresses from 70s era. Even her voice and timbre resemble that vintage aesthetic from the golden years. And often, it's hard for me to believe that she was actually born in the millennial generation.

Got to love her voice, her spirit and style. A modern day lounge singer. Lana is a Queen.
Preachaman TV / Mancunia Rebél more like 70s
God I love revisiting this song. Especially late at night, it feels more dreamy and elusive. Uv will forever be a favorite album, and I disagree when people say she’s topped it since it came out. This album changed the music industry after born to die. She created her own genre it seems. Her music will always feel personal no matter what form. But this album will always be where the feeling all starts.
What's weird is that whenever I play this song among other Lana songs. Everybody says they sound sad. I don't think this song sounds sad. I think it's a sexy dreamy intoxicating sound.
Oh yeah Prior Wrapsheet exactly !!

Lana del Rey deserves to be praised. In my opinion, she could handle the heavy burden of carrying our stories as millennials, this broken generation that went through a lot in a world that just won't stop giving us a break. There's no one but Lana who trailblazed a path for younger artists to be brave and presents stories that don't necessarily fit in the box of "standard love". You'll find stories of death, depression, love, atypical relationships, abuse and etc. within the folds of Lana's lyrical contents. Had it not been inspired by what she does, I would have never been able to put out an award winning film out there, inspired by her song "California", talking about how she navigating through Barrie's depression. Lana fans, let me know what you think about it!! ua-cam.com/video/nSC4ptU79-8/v-deo.html

It sucks how she doesn't get enough credit but all these other wack artists do instead. But I guess its a good thing to keep it that way so she won't get over rated 😍
xyzangeel I totally agree! Lol I hate telling others I'm listening to her because I feel like they'll ruin her music
This video is sad because it’s about an older man who lost the love of his life when they were young and he keeps seeing her ghost everywhere.
That's such a sad yet beautiful interpretation, I love it. One of the best music videos and songs ever.
finally someone that understands song and the video.....people were really reaching..lol
@Lucem awesome...thanks.....i never thought about the challenge angle ....women are so like that always being attracted to guys that need repair.....and over looking well adjusted guys
What happens to the love of his life?
Wow wow Lulu watch the vid of born to die :D is the same story
"AND WHEN HE CALLS, HE CALLS FOR ME AND NOT FOR YOUUUU".🤧
I love that Lana´s platonic love in her videos aren´t normally beautiful hollywood guys. They are realistic people, sometimes older than her, sometimes from the same gender, or sometimes just not attractive in an orthodox way, and the video doesn´t have to change because of that. I wish more artist would send this type of messages to their fans.
So true!
Her real fiancée is her age
+Tanisha Monroe Yeah, but that has nothing to do with her videos.
Why should artist's send messages? They should just make art.
Art always sends a message.
Whether it is what it is, it stands for something else, if it's just meant to never be understood, or maybe just to convey the artists feelings. Or maybe the artist was just bored.
A world where art means nothing is not one I'd like to live in.
This queen needs a grammy
No,grammy needs her
no one needs a grammy. Depeche Mode never got one, for example. and only one brit award. why? Noel Gallagher explained it very well about the lifetime achievement brit award that Oasis got: "If someone deserves this award, it's definitely Depeche Mode. but it won't happen cause they're not an major record company."
Lmao I'm literally subscribed to you I cant believe I found you here :p

Yes but it's not her that produces her songs so it's mostly the sounds of other people
@@user-ke4hi2el5k but she writes those melodies and sings them, doesn't she? 🤦♂️
It’s criminal that this wasn’t a song for a bond film.
Just read your comment now but posted something similar 1 minute ago!
This is not about a young Woman dating an Older guy, this is about an Old man remembering what could have being the love of his life that die young. Lana is a Ghost that he sees everywhere. Prove? At min 3:39 the guy makes the cross sing when he sees her pass in front of him swimming.
He grew old sad and lonely. Maybe wanting someone new but couldn't find anyone like her.
oh, thats an interesting way to see the video, makes sense but im not 100% sure thats the meaning. at some point i thought it was another lolita video, and thought all ultraviolence videos were gonna be attached.
Very interesting. Kind of like "Lolita" how Humbert couldn't get over the girl that he loved as a young boy.
I was thinking the same thing just because he makes the cross
In many of her songs she says that she likes old men, it's not a secret (Cola refference). So, i think there is no special meaning behind this video. It's well known that Lana likes or at least she liked to have fun with rich, old men. Search through her songs and you'll understand.
I love ur interpretation!
This, for me, is one of her best songs. The musicality, the melody, the story and depth and her orgasmic voice. Listening to this song takes me into another world.
Most people say Lana’s song are depressive, but if all you can feel is depression from her songs then you don’t really understand her music and art at all.
I thank the universe for the work of art you gave us Lana. XOXO
Yes, in the beginning I only listen to a few of her songs and then I got addicted ! Her songs play in my head all day. And I love that about her music it just leaves you wanting more and more
Yeah, I don’t think her music is depressive at all. To me it’s all about introspection. Just because it’s not bubbly and upbeat doesn’t automatically make it “depressive”.
Ox
Not only one of her best songs, but one of the best songs ever made 😍
Oh god, I know right? her voice, her music, her face, her body, her vibe is so touching on another level. She's just so ETHEREAL. She gives me life, she's a fresh breath of air.
3:47 "Your hot, hot weather in the summer. Hot, hot neglectful lover. Hot, hot weather in the summer. Hot, neglectful lover. You're crumbling, sadly. You're crumbling." favorite part, Lana is truly an artist.
Marisol Santos that's my favorite lyric 😍❤😇
I never knew that this part even had lyrics.
Nikhil Kumar isn’t amazing ?
i never even knew those lyrics existed!!!!!
I I didn’t know that existed..... I thought she said your heart twice but WOW!!! She is just amazing and does anyone else noticed that the very end of the video is backwards for some reason
This is my fav song from Lana. So hypnotic, sad, lustful and tragic. It packs such a punch for me still in 2024. The soaring chorus is just mesmerizing
For me this song is about loving a person despite their cold personality. Here Lana is constantly pointing out how aloof and detach her ‘baby’ is, but despite this she’s in love with him and tries to change him (even though she can’t). She loves him despite his love of drugs, women, and his ‘strange weather’ (unpredictability).
From the first verse, we can already tell that Lana’s ‘baby’ is a typical old Hollywood bad boy because he has the ‘blue eyes’ (cold gaze), ‘jazz’ (charisma), and ‘attitude’. She also points out that ‘he lives in California too’, assumably because there might’ve been loads of boys like him in California. But at the end at the verse even though this boy ‘lives for love’ (is a womanizer/sleeps around) and is also a drug addict, he still loves his ‘baby’ (Lana).
In the pre-chorus, Lana mentions her frustration of not being able to ‘help’ her significant other and having the inability to ‘make him better’, this might be because of the boy’s ‘strange weather’ that she mentions at the end of the pre-chorus. Having a strange weather could mean having mood swings or constantly changing one’s desires and beliefs.
In the chorus, she also mentions how being in a relationship with this person saddens her deeply because not only he is ‘unfixable’ (doesn’t want to change his ways), but she ‘can't break through’ his ‘world’, that could possibly mean despite her attempts of trying to understand him, she always ends up feeling lost because this ‘baby’ of hers lives in ‘shades of cool’ (his own world). Lana also says that her boy’s heart is unbreakable, this might be because he seems so detached and aloof, she feels as though he wouldn’t care if she leaves him or not.
In the second verse, Lana further describes her ‘baby’. Not only does he live in his own world but he’s also has a cold heart (he’s detached, cold hands (he can be physical), and cold aptitude (he tends to be aloof in general). Now Lana is more pessimistic as she mentions how her boy lives for love (sex) and women, and how she just ‘one of many’, and the most shockingly of her boy’s lover’s is ‘blue’ (dead), Lana might’ve added this one bit to exaggerate how meaningless it is to be her boy’s girl because they’re all easily discarded and forgotten.
Despite all this, Lana still believes that she’s special to her boy because the boy only ‘calls’ for her when he ‘calls’, this could be Lana’s way of saying that the boy only longs for her and thinks about her despite having many lovers.
Lana also believes that he’s a good person inside because she mentions how the boy prays for ‘peace’ and ‘love’, but then Lana discreetly adds ‘and maybe someone new’, this could be her way of hinting the fact that she doesn’t feel secure in the relationship because she feels as though her ‘baby’ might find her replacement one day. Despite her beliefs of being his special ‘baby’, she also realizes that she might not be special to him for long because of his changeable nature.
In the bridge, Lana frustratedly sings of her boy’s hot weather (bad temper) in the summer and how even though he’s hot, he’s also a ‘neglectful lover’. But then she talks of how he’s ‘sadly crumbling’, this could mean that even though Lana still doesn’t understand him, she slowly notices his patterns and realize that there’s a reason behind his coldness, and he doesn’t even realize that Lana notices this.
In conclusion, I think that this is a heartfelt song that resonates with a lot of people who’s in a relationship with a toxic person, is emotionally attached to said person, and wants them to change despite how seemingly impossible it is. This song really explores the feelings of insecurity and uncertainty of being with someone who lives in their own world and doesn’t want to change.
Word of advice: always follow your heart but think about yourself and your well-being because you ARE important.
Wow love this interpretation
Patiently waiting for your award... This is amazing 😊

After getting Lust For Life upon it's release I've been doing a Lana Del Rey discography listen. I can't get enough of her. Like most artists who fall into being ruined by being in the charts Lana Del Rey in EVERY! Single album still stays true to herself and to her fans. SHE'S BLOODY AMAZING!!!! Her voice is so dreamy, captivating, haunting, dark, perfect and so much MORE! She can sing live and she never fails to deliver. Talent that never goes wasted. Not to forget she is incredibly gorgeous and such an incredible human being.👌🏻

That's interesting. If that's it then it would explain how he looks sad seeing her. I love how her songs can be translated to so many stories depending on how the person reads the lyrics you know? Btw where did you here about the song being about that?
I never realized before but I think she's a ghost in this video, the way it's edited makes it feel like shes haunting the man. Kind of feel like as if she was part of his life when they were young but she died at a young age and the memory of her kept haunting him and following him until his old age
Yep, you're right
Honestly I thought the same...because this older guy kind of looks like from Born to die...the younger one..
Well since every other comment says this, it's pretty obvious you didn't think of this yourself. Its fine we already know what it's about
*sips tea and adjusts peruke*
the meaning tho (and neglectful love part prove it.)
3:47 Best part
I do wish they would have focused on the guitar more than the vocals in the background I feel like that's a moment to hone in on that. Imo
The part at 3:48 makes my soul ache and feel reborn at the same time. What a stunning song! I can cry and dance all together
She paints worlds w those whispers. She breaks walls @ the Grammys w her mere presence, shades of cool above Swifty pants.
I don't get why Lana isn't as populair as you expect her to be. How can you not like her salty voice and a glorious look at old Hollywood and night club music from the 50s and 60's. All dippen in a new sound that's modern and still reminds you of the old days, the femme fatale. I only wonder if she can sing this song as well live as she does here.
>41 million views
>not popular
I saw her live and I couldn't even tell the difference
+Bob Carter She is populair, but not by a certain type, like Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber (jak). She has a kind of style that can work, but her genre is not easy to sell to one big group, like Taylor or Justin Bieber is for teens. Her songs can be for several ages, but that's also the problem. A lot of her songs have lyrics that sound a bit childish for a 40 yr old and visa versa with songs that may not attrack the teens that much. Does this make sense. Hard to explain., coz I don't get it either. I love most of her songs, but not all of them and mostly because of the lyrics about drugs, coz it doesn't make any sense. I think that's it, some of her lyrics are too juvenile and others are very mature. That can mean why she doesn't sell enough records or isn't more populair in the charts. Long story for a short answer, lol.😆 ✌
I read she sang good live and Im glad, coz ppl kept saying she couldn't sing, maybe she didn't have the right aquitment( ?) in those days..... favorite song (at the moment) The Blackest Day, I think. Hard to choose, almost all her songs have something I like... 😉 ✌
Monique Geritz well that's that she's popular that's all I need
+DiamondWolf The mainstream music has a few good artists, but I must admit that these days a lot is crap they put out, esp those D.J. collabs. A lot of music for teens ofcause and a few good, original artists and some from.other countries, but most is often not my kind of music and I like a lot of genres, almost every decade had some great artists, from the 50s, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's till now and a lot of them are dead or old or just no longer perform and some are. Glad I was raised in a household with all sorts of music, plus after that through a boyfriend but also from strangers and good friends to ofcause Internet and the radio and tv itself. That's a lot of music I collected over the years...
My theory:
As many of the comments have said, I do believe that Lana's character died when she and the man were young and her spirit follows him around. However I also think that the character of the old man in this video is the same guy from her video Born To Die because at the end of that video her lover is holding her dead body after he caused the car to crash and they were both pretty young when this happened. About in their 20s. And the way she acts around the older man and holds him at the end of this video after she dances with him could be a parallel to the born to die video. Also, at 3:06 you can see an American flag waving in the background, which could be a parallel to the other video as well. Idk that's just what I think, haha! But either way our queen slays in both songs, and ,well, every song. Her music and vids are a beautiful piece of art. Let me know your thoughts on the theory, bye!
Edit: Also, I saw some of y’alls replies that the Blue Jeans video could be connected as well because the same guy drowns her at the end of the video and in this video we see what might be a parallel to that when she swims in the pool. I agree with this, especially since he looks distressed and shocked when she comes out of the pool! And one of y’all also said she says she will love him till the end of time in Blue Jeans and her haunting him proves that she did, which I think is a cool detail. I really like what we’re putting together here, it’s interesting 🙃

Agree
Ah, that's amazing!
Omg I love this theory
makes sense
i agree because he crossed himself at: 3:39 which sometimes u do when u see someone's grave or dead body in this case her ghost
[Verse 1]
My baby lives in shades of blue
Blue eyes and jazz and attitude
He lives in California, too
He drives a Chevy Malibu
And when he calls, he calls for me and not for you
He lives for love, he loves his drugs, he loves his baby, too
[Pre-Chorus]
But I can't fix him, can't make him better
And I can't do nothing about his strange weather
[Chorus]
But you are unfixable
I can't break through your world
'Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable
[Verse 2]
My baby lives in shades of cool
Cold heart and hands and aptitude
He lives for love, for women, too
I'm one of many, Bonnie's blue
And when he calls, he calls for me and not for you
He prays for love, he prays for peace, and maybe someone new
You might also like
[Pre-Chorus]
But I can't help him, can't make him better
And I can't do nothing about his strange weather
[Chorus]
'Cause you are unfixable
I can't break through your world
'Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable
[Bridge]
You're hot, hot weather in the summer
Hot, hot, unforgiving lover
Hot, hot weather in the summer
Hot, unforgiving lover
You're crumbling, sadly
You're crumbling, sadly
[Chorus]
You are unfixable
I can't break through your world
'Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable
[Outro]
Pa pa da pa
Pa pa da ah, oh
Oh, oh
Oh

I can’t stop replaying 4:30 omg. The way she rises out of the water, I- she’s so hot
I've replayed this many times...
The fact that she comes out of the water when the super loud guitar solo stops and we can hear her vocals... damn I love this song
•happy• •always• WE HAVE THE SAME PFP LOLL
Mermaids vibes 😁🐠
My favourite part of the video
The fact that this has 100+ views but was never on the radio, this song is so unique d
You know this vid was explained some time ago and I believe [not 100% sure] that Lana had agreed to this: that born to die, west coast, shades of cool were all telling a story. It began with born to die when her character dies. In west coast u see her dancing in flames to pay homage to how her character died. This old man is really the young guy/ love of her life who has gotten old. She's everywhere, in everything he sees and it torments him. In this vid u can see her looking transparent or kinda like a ghost. Anyways if this isn't the right theory it is by far my favourite of all the ones I've read. It makes watching these vids sooo sad but beautiful at the same time. Lana is pure genius.
I thought there was another video to go with it???
cribabyjay it's blue jeans, i belive there's another theory that goes blue jeans (their relationship) born to die (lana dying) west coast (the guy remembering their time together, seeing her ghost etc) then shades of cool (him seeing her everywhere basically) that's a short version of it pretty sure there's a more in depth version if you just Google that order then "theory"
Me pussy is telling a story too, than you can see ?
i´m kidding
Killer. However it changes the whole concept of this sing for me, which is always trying to help the bad boy get over his demons...and it's impossible.
I honestly think that lana is her own genre. like her songs and artistry cant compare what a queen
There is no one else like her
her own genre of poop
this song reminds me a lot of a 007 opening song fav one instrumentaly speaking
You get it
Lana Del Rey Write an Album with Songs She actually want to sing, and that is Art. She doesn't compose Songs just because its what the kids are digging.
so true....
+MomsenDelRey I love your comment but I love your profile name even more!
What does ur name.mean..?
Lmao.. that's not how the industry works... She is a product.. not an artist.. she was manufactured
SuperkenGaming Art is art because it moves you, or makes you think, or react, or see things differently. Lana Del Rey may not be art to you but she is to other people. I can guarantee you've never had a thought a million people before you haven't thought already but it doesn't mean you deserve to be called a "Manufactured Product", neither does she.
This is the best thing ive ever seen. Lana Del Rey is the best artist ever. I will buy all her merch.
how can you all say Lana del rey is overrated? That she can't sing? That people like Kiesza and lorde are better than her? Oh my god whoever you are put your shit together. Lana is an ARTIST, she makes great music, art, she definitely can sing, she writes most of her lyrics and they're amazing, she's got an original tone, her voice gives the chills to billions of people, she's an hard-worker, some of you guys don't seem to know about her very much but you have to know that she's been doing music for her entire life and even if her first works weren't appreciated enough she never gave up. Now she's on top of the charts, she started working for many directors too, Tim Burton himself hired her for his new movie saying that lana gives him chills. Lizzie's stunning, incredibly talented, beautiful, serious, smart, she can express emotions with her voice better than any other artist I know.
That's my opinion, feel free to disagree but before start hating just try to actually listen to one of her song, I bet you're smart enough to get my point.
Lot of love.
Her voice reminds me of someone from the 40's and fifties. Sultry, hypnotic, other worldly. Very well put, everyone who is bashing her is tone deaf or jealous.
I like Lorde much more than I like Lana Del Ray. But that's an OPINION. And it's alright to have one.
i really like lorde's style as well actually, maybe i didn't express myself quite good about her, sorry
Angelina Meeks
I haven't listened much to Lorde, but even though Lana and Lorde have a similarity in their voice and how they use it I must say their music is quiote different. In my opinion Lana have much more gloomy and emotional music and I feel that she have much more mature lyrics to her songs.
omg I feel you. Like I was talking Lana and my friend she was overrated and I almost slapped her. She makes art and beauty and shares it with the people who enjoy it.
This album will never die
never❤🔥
Ultra is immortal!🖤🤍
it isnt alive it isn't an organism it's an inanimate object
this song is enough proof that she is perfect for a Bond theme, dunno why they picked billie over her...
Wow, didn’t know how much likes and attention I’d garner. Thanks y’all
Marc Gulaya sometimes it’s better for the sellings to get a fake-depressed industry plant to sing a movie song so that’s why they picked Billie
@@burntnorton8841 why's everyone calling billie fake depressed lmaooo. I'm not her fan but you don't know if she actually is, just bc her fans r mostly young girls doesn't mean they're fake depressed either...
I think they picked Billie cos she sounds a lot more towards the "British music" vibe. And most 007 movies use British singers..
But I hope they include Lana's music in most movies, shes the absolute best. My favourite artist
Just my thought tho
I know, right!!! 😭🤦🏻♀️ Lana is the QUEEN of anything vintage.
Exactly
4:30 the best part
I will never get over that scene where she gets out of the pool. SHE'S LIKE A VISION. SO BEAUTIFUL. I can't even describe it. That expression in her eyes... omg.
No doubt she's the most beautiful woman in the singing industry.
Describing her music as “sad” is wrong, it’s more like craving to go far back in time and maybe wanting to fix something or someone. To me that’s a feeling that replaces the word sad
Nostalgia 😊
Exactly. Her vision is not sadness but longing. All her songs are religious in this sense.
People be denying about sadness much. When sadness is actually a beautiful feeling.
Yess
It repairs the soul like a blues
This video is so hypnotic
True!
its 2016................why would you make me look at the fucking mishapocalypse picture.............will i never be free
BAKCEGRUND CLANM there is no end. only misha.
It's like being high on hydroponic weed
+Aburotto Nekoveja lol fr
i actually dont think this is about her ghost haunting him, i think it's about a younger woman in love with an older man who is not capable of actually being emotionally available or sharing himself truly and she feels that she can't reach him but she longs for him because he's unavailable.
Bruh lana explained bout the ghost thing in an interview
@ o I didn’t know
Man even after all these years, at 4:30 my jaw drops and I take a gasp and with that chilling, high pitch "Yoooooouuuuuuu" as she climbs out of the pool, it's still so damn breath-taking just wow!
HOW was she not approached to do a JAMES BOND theme song!!?!?!?!!?
She was, I heared that 24 from Honeymoon had to be on some kind of Bond movie
It people said that 24 had to be on a JB film 'cause this song is a typical 007 song, not because Lana was approached by Sony or anything...
Wait, but what Bond movie are you talking 'bout? Skyfall or Spectre?
Davi Spectre, Shades Of Cool screams James Bond, Radiohead did a full song for it also and got the shaft for Sam Smith!!! WTF.....Radiohead released the MP3 to fans for free.
Man, that Sam Smith song was total bs, didn't have anything to do with 007...
This song Is about lanas character and her old boyfriend , Lana died while she was young which is why she looks as young as she does in the video, her boyfriend is still alive though , she watches over him as he lives his life always going back to her for she is his one true love hence " when he calls he calls for me and not for you " as he lives his life he is seeing past memories of her play out through his eyes , so all in all Lana is not dating an old man but rather was dating him when he was young as she was , she dies leaving him to age and her to stop In time and watch over him , as he Remembers her
where did you see that??
+Kawaii Lady Its another one Lana's references to "Lolita" The main character in Lolita loses his first love while they were both young. Unfortunately in the novel the main character starts a fascination with young girls that were around the same age his first love was. Its really worth researching alot of her songs have a little bit of a reference to "Lolita" she even has the authors name tattooed in her arm.
+Eric Carosella OMG this makes so much sense, I was just wondering why on some parts of the video they cant touch each other, thanks!
i didn't know this, but now that i think about it it makes so much sense. that's such a beautiful meaning, i never would have understood what she was singing about if it weren't for this. thankyouu
+Luciana
I'll go a little further with a point of view. I think 4 vids r connected. 1st song born to die, obviously she dies but he survives. Blue jeans he's alone but remembers her (that's y she says remember that I'll always luv u). Then in west coast he's a lot older but remembers the time they had spent at the beach so when he's caressing his shoulder, in the car, he feels her spirit there n imagines touching her. In 50 shades of cool he sees her spirit then finally he commits suicide (it shows a gun firing) Then they're together again. Only my interpretation 😉
I don’t care what anyone else has to say. Lana del Rey puts her own father on a pedestal and this video shows how much she loves and admires him. I also get the sense that in her youth she was so close to her dad that she wanted to initiate an authentic heartfelt bond but couldn’t because like most men, they have a wall up for protection or because they’re taught emotions lead to “danger”. Some men will let you get close, but not close enough to let you actually into their hearts. It’s sad for the simple fact that as a man, that is your child and they just want to feel your GENUINE HEARTFELT LOVE but that can’t always take place for many reasons but it’s easy to see how Lizzie developed a deep, deep desire to connect with her own father on a level where she not only knew mentally & maybe verbally of his love, but she also *felt* his deepest love for her as his child. She got much closer that I ever did to my own father’s love. Mine was always a dangling carrot. He was always nearby as a glimpse of what could be, but never was.💔
She literally IS THE BEST CHOICE for a SPECTRE opening song. Noone can do it better than her
Sooooo true
Роман Герасимов I couldn't agree more. If not Spectre, she'll do the next one. She needs to be in the Bond catalogue.
same opinion... 007
+Роман Герасимов agreed.
+Роман Герасимов should have been the SPECTRE theme song, Maybe next Bond film??
For me, one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

Masterpiece
A masterpiece indeed.Ultraviolence is Lana's magnum opus,in my opinion
Ruthless XO Completely disagreed. I think it was her worst attempt at an album.
Oudri125 can I ask why? What didn't you like? I think her worst album was Lust for life, even though I still really like it
Ruthless XO Well I have a couple of main issues with the album. The first is her vocals; Lana goes into a higher register in almost every song, and in all honesty she sounds much better and is capable to transmitting emotion more in her lower register. On the topic of vocals though, some of Lana's vocalisation on songs like Pretty When You Cry is downright awful, like in the ending of that song, where she screeches over the blaring guitar.
Another problem I have with the album is the lyrical content. Just because there's tragic context in the lyrics, it doesn't excuse the fact that they're quite awful compared to her other efforts... All of the songs try SO incredibly hard to be melodramatic and sad, and they just don't work because the lyrics are often downright meaningless.
The songs that I like are Cruel World, Ultraviolence and Shades of Cool. I suppose the instrumentals were the saving grace of this album. Honeymoon is my overall favourite album, it's a mature take on love and... that kinda shows considering all of my fellow teenager fans seem to detest that album as it's 'too boring'.
Oudri125 I love Honeymoon. It definitely grew on me after a few listens and now it's my second favourite. The lyrics, the instrumental, everything is amazing and it's so sad that it didn't get the recognition it deserved.
I respect your opinion about Ultraviolence but I loved the lyrical content of this album.I have many memories attached to UV,so naturally it has a special place in my heart.Songs like Shades of Cool,West Coast,Cruel World,Ultraviolence and Old Money cemented my respect for Lana's artistry.I felt like it was the first album where she finally approached the sound she wanted, with Honeymoon following. The rock elements that she incorporated definitely suited her voice. That guitar solo on Shades Of Cool is almost orgasmic
Goosebumps attack when she hits THAT note 🥶
Omg first time i ever heard this... wow
All Lana songs are ethereal
