7 of us heading to Flaine in Jan staying in D’Eos. We’ve all just spent literally 3 hours watching all of your videos and thoroughly enjoyed them all! We’ve skied all over France but never in the Grand Masif so your videos have given us some much needed insight! Thanks again

haha amazing, thank you! You are going to have a great time, the out door pool at d'eos is a lot of fun. So glad these videos were of use to you and the group.. You've probably seen enough to draw a piste map from memory. Its a bit of a concrete jungle but the ski area at high altitude is easily one of the best I've experienced in the alps. Next year will be our 5th year in a row to Flaine. thanks for watching and have a brilliant time.

Another great vlog, Mike. Loving them all so far but as someone a lot closer in age to Grandma and Grandad than I am to your good self, this particular video got me wondering what they did for getting out and about while you were having fun in the snow? You seem like a decent, family-loving sort of guy, Mike, so I will ignore the strong video evidence that you locked them in the penthouse and just let them out for ski badge award ceremonies at the end of the week, lol.

Moody_blue hahaha! Those locks where pretty good for keeping the in-laws up in the tower. I joke of course.. Grandma and Grandad used the buses each day to get down to foret and forum to enjoy the village and have a coffee, so they did get out, I promise. Grandad did say this week that had he taken lessons since they came he’d actually be pretty good by now, but they still enjoy the time there. I pay a little extra to reception to have a south facing view of the resort as my mother in law in particular enjoys watching the snow ploughs work through the night and other evening events in Flaine. I promise, no in-laws where harmed in the making of these episodes and they are alive and well ☺️👍🏻

@@MikeSmale Thanks for the reply, Mike. Glad to hear your in-laws had a good time, are alive and well and were of course, unharmed in the process! Nothing wrong with grandparents having a wander and checking out the views and snow ploughs on holiday. I'm a grandparent and do the same myself but as I am still trying to convince myself of the mantra that age is just a number (albeit a blooming big one), it would have been so great if they had, in fact, been expert skiers and had spent their time hurdling down black runs in the Grand Massif. Blame that ridiculously fanciful notion on my ongoing mid-life crisis which my wife tells me is now officially older than Kylie Jenner. Anyway, give them my regards as a fellow baby boomer and I look forward to watching all your future 2020 episodes. Cheers. 👍

Loved the video, very well put together and I can’t wait to visit!
What is the name of the music played 20 minutes in?

You are in for a great time, Flaine is one of our favourites. The piece of music is from music licensing site MusicBed, track name - Reborn / ONE HUNDRED YEARS.I have a version without the cinematic bars which i may launch next month, it looks so much bigger without them. thanks for watching!

We enjoy your family videos. Thanks. Can you tell me what drone you are using and how you manage to carry, launch and recover it while skiing?

Thanks Nigel! For this trip I used the Mavic 2 pro from DJI. I mostly filmed at the beginning and end of each day as the light is more favourable then. The times I launched mid day were off piste in a safe location with a good view of the surrounding area. I am ever conscious of helicopter tours. Additionally I recommend hand launching if possible to avoid any snow on the lens issues. Lets hope we're all travelling again soon. I am definitely missing the mountains.. stay safe

Oh, hand launch DJI is fun. Only second to grabbing it off the air.

@@suisinghoraceho2403 since my comment earlier I’ve tried two methods of hand recovery. Grab it quick and turn it up side down and the motors stop. Put your hand flat under it so it thinks you are the landing spot and then auto land it and drop gently to your hand and stops.

Great video. Off there for Christmas this year. Out of interest, have you had any issues flying your drone there? Keen to take mine but want to know I can use it. Cheers.

thanks Mark. I spoke with Tourist information and at the time they had no problem with me flying over the back country. What I will say however is that during this trip I experienced many helicopter tours. Some in my opinion were flying dangerously low to the pistes on pass overs, it was a real concern as even with all care and attention there could've been an issue. I would recommend flying in the evenings and early mornings, better light during those time anyway. have a great trip! We're heading back early 2020 also.

Thanks. I prefer early morning flights too. Will bear that in mind. Cheers.

Interesting. In many ski areas, your drone software would lock you out anyway.
