Recorded near Flaine / Sixt in Grand Massif resort on helmet camera with a Go Pro 8 HD camera on 10th March 2022 on a clear and sunny day when snow had started to melt. The slope was called Cascade Experience 14km and ends up in Sixt. There was one area 16 min 30 sec in where the snow had melted and I nearly fell much to my friends amusement!

It's a pretty long run and is worth skiing at least once. Downsides are flat portions and a half-hour bus ride at the end to the nearest lift. There may be a queue for the bus. You should start skiing down this run no later than 13 o'clock, in order to have enough time to get back to Flaine or wherever you stay at the resort.

I'd hate to go along that hair pinned run when it is busy.

Yes you would feel very rushed, luckily for us there were hardly any other people on it.

Was this last month? The conditions look great!
It is a great run, even if you do stop, you just really don't mind being where you are!
Kind of want a restaurant/bar half way down though (rather than just at the bottom)

I agree as you do feel very isolated and some of the views on the way down are spectacular so would be great to stop for a drink.

There is a fantastic restaurant on this run, but you all skied past it! At 13:14 you can see a little sign with a roof above it. There's a call button and it calls the Refuge de Lac de Gers. They fetch you with a snow scooter with a rope attached to it. Reservations are recommended.

What skis are you allowed to run: DH, SG, GS … ?

Sorry but I have no idea what they even are as I always hire the cheapest skis from the shop. Didn't notice any signs saying what skis you had to wear as I went along the route.

Went down there one year and some of the piste had small stones on it. Completely ruined my skis 😢

Yes you can see it was a bit like that when I went down it but still loved it and I always hire skis so never a concern for me.

I added the comment before I’d watched the complete video 😃. We’ve been going to Samoens for years and skied the Cascade a few times. Not always open, and you can probably see why. The conditions looked amazing for quite a lot of your run.

Can understand people not wanting to ruin their skis but I loved the run and would definitely be going back there in the future.

On the way there this winter. From all the videos I've seen so far, it looks great. Besides all the boarders stopping at the narrow slow signs 😉😂

Hello, would you be so kind to answer me . Is "cascades" the real blue and it is good for beginners?

    • @michaelsmith429
      @michaelsmith429  4 місяці тому

Not ideal for beginners as some bits are steep and narrow as you can see in my clip.

What month was this? The top slopes look great but the bottom ones... Not so much.

Was in March but loved it so planning on going there again in the future as hadn't heard of the resort before I'd been - well worth returning.

@@michaelsmith429 I've booked for March too. Nice to know it's still skiable then. I hadn't heard of the resort until this year either but it looks great. Can't wait to go!

Did ask the taxi driver if there was a good time to go for snow and he laughed saying you’ve the same chance of snow in April as you have in December and sometimes there’s been more snow in April than February-it is just luck!
