I didn't know anything about protein overload. Thanks so much for your vd. I followed the directions and certainly, my hair recovered after one wash. Now I know and will be taking care of hydration/protein balance. You're the crack! 😊🎉
This is so useful! My hair does this EXACT thing, and I'm just starting the process of finding the right protein/moisture balance - I'm only 3 months into my curly journey and it's a bit of information overload, but having this visual is really useful.
Angry frizz, love that description 😂 Apparently my hair is furious and nobody bothered to tell me. Seriously though, thank you, I wish I'd heard of this sooner.
Heya ! I already told you on Instagram, but thanks a lot for showing all of this. I find it very helpful, even 3 years and some months into my curly journey. There's always more to learn about your own hair. I'd say don't purposefully get into too much moisture, but if it happens, and you can catch it, I'd be curious to see it too. Thanks again for everything you share !
After 2 years of being on this curly wavy hair journey, I always thought my hair needed protein. I'm still not quite sure what has protein, unless it says so. Well, today's wash day I saw what angry frizz was. I mean Angry. I can't explain it. It didn't clump and it wasn't like seaweed. There was no smoothing it with a brush. It was after I applied Shae Moisture Hydrate & Repair Curl Cream Manuka Honey & Yogurt, I think it has protein. Thank God I had the their Intense Moisture leave-in. I rinsed out the curl cream & put in the leave-in. I was amazed how it quickly it turned my angry frizz to almost nice & calm.
Great video. You really do need to know your hair and not just throw products on willy-nilly. Protein and moisture must be balanced for optimal health and great looking hair. Your hair is beautiful 😍❤. I'm definitely going to try a protein treatment and then if the results are good, I may try the "home-made" gelatine one the next month 😊 xx
This is so cool! And, as I mentioned on Instagram, it actually works! 😊 I do this every washday now, checking both after my rinse-out conditioner and leave-in. Thank you so much for all your helpful videos and content 💜
My hair does the same thing. This is so useful! Thank you so much always for sharing your helpful tips! You explain things very well and makes sense no matter what hair you have.
New UA-cam subscriber from your Instagram - been loving your content and knowledge. This one is super helpful! Been having some serious fluff issues with my curls lately. Thought I needed protein but looks like I might need moisture instead.
This is such an excellent visual! I never completely understood “angry frizz”, but I now absolutely see what you mean. Were you able to feel the change in your hair as well? 💛
Such a wonderful video, well explained and really helpful to see it rather than just been told about it. Feel awful as I am Slightly hoping it gets over moisture so I can see how that looks and you fix it. Thanks for another great video
Started CGM one mo ago. Heard about protein when I was learning about cg, went & got a protein treatment & leave in a protein. One use. My hair is only now, 3 wks later.. looking not terrible. I found out I have low porosity hair so it prob did me more damage than most. My hair looks like yours all the time. Worse when dry. I am clarifying once a wk & deep conditioning 30 min.. Having better luck using more leave in (protein free of course) & some glycerin.. guess it’s helping pull moisture into my hair. I’m jelly you fixed your so easily! I thought the frayed frizz is where my hair broke off..
Very helpful description. My hair has done this occasionally so it’s good to know the cause, especially as, like yours, my hair usually seems to want plenty of protein.
I think I recognise that sort of wetfrizz...?!! But I always think I just squished out too much water when adding the leave in, but the only leave in I have ever tried is the noughty to the rescue, which have wheat protein, so maybe my hair doenst like the protein at all? My go to is to simple don't use leave it, and go straight to my own Holy grail flaxseed gel, which works lovely! Thooo, I have heard flaxseed can mimic protein? So now that confuses me...🤔🤔
From my experience flaxseed is very moisturising and even if an ingredient *can* mimic protein, it doesn’t mean it necessarily will for everyone. Sounds like you have it sussed 😃
After seeing the webinars 'the protein misconception' and 'the moisture misconception' (on UA-cam as well) I learned that a protein overlaod actually does not exist, while hair is 92% made of proteïn... the thing is, that the 'awfull misbehaviour of the hair' we relate to much proteïn, is caused by "too little moisture while using the proteïn (-product) at that same time" .
I have seen this too but from personal experience and the experience of many others I would disagree. While it’s true that adding more moisture will counteract it, as I did here, I do still think that protein overload is a thing.
@@MarisasCurls it is a difficult thing for sure ;) and although I hear and read a lot of the (different) experiences from other people I do also know that "other people" aren't always do the right things as well so that's not something to rely on too much. Not saying that I have all the whisdom of course... but I just want to say that a lot (LOT) of people think they're doing good by just following 'rules or advices in different groups' while meanwhile a lot of information there isn't accurate as well. But that's another story. About protein I do notice myself though that the type of protein does matter , my hair doesn't like wheat protein in a higher amount for example, and that's hard to correct with moisturizers at that same time... the interact is different is what I mean and that can make it a challenge.
Oh I totally agree with you about not just blindly trusting advice in groups or anywhere else for that matter. And I also think that sometimes what happens is that people give a name to something eg protein overload, it describes what happens when the balance of protein and moisture is off, then others give it a certain further definition and then still others feel the need to debunk when in actual fact the original issue, the effect the protein has when not properly balanced, is still accurate. Also it definitely is the case that some peoples hair just can’t take much protein even if they add a load of moisture too. My hair thankfully is very protein hungry and it’s almost impossible to give it too much protein 😅 which is why I was almost happy to have this happen and be able to film it 🤣
It's all well and good if you can afford those expensive hair products in the first place, where as I can't as I'm on a very tight budget, so is there anything else that would give the same results with less pricey? And your curls are amazing Marisa 💕😊
Absolutely! I’m often talking about Noughty and have many video using their products plus a discount code in the description box on every video. They are budget friendly and excellent
I'm a straight haired girl but I'm certain my hair probs is too much protein (it snaps, dry no matter how much conditioner I use, dull)..can these products with no protein be used on straight hair too?
@@MarisasCurls that's great news :) It's actually really hard to find stuff without protein as almost everything contains it in some form but I've managed to find some by the brand mielle, will try this with a clarifying shampoo and hope it helps!
This is so useful, seeing the protein overload and how to fix it in real time, brilliant idea for helping us curlies out! 💕

I never realized the angry frizz was from protein overload. I’m excited to see what my hair can become!!
It's so helpful to see protein overload in the moment! Thank you!

😂😂 it definitely describes it well. I hope you can soothe your angry hair lol

I've always struggled with knowing when my hair has too much protein or moisture. This was very helpful!
This is so so helpful!! I’m always worried about moisture/protein and realised I was so focused on protein my hair needed more moisture!!!

I’ve been protein free for a month & it’s not going away.
Silicone never did me so wrong 😩😩
Watching again to get the exact routine
What product did you use?? I used a mask with silicone 3 weeks ago and I can’t seem to get it out of my hair

I'm new on this journey taking care of my curls. What is protein overload? How do in start getting my hair healthy?
Hi! Check out my protein moisture balance video. It’s in my Protein Moisture playlist.
very helpful!
