  • The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been forced to announce that he is stepping down, after days of political turmoil.
Mr Johnson made the statement in Downing Street after more than 50 ministers resigned from his government. The final crisis for Mr Johnson began with the resignation of his Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid.
It followed a series of scandals and accusations that Mr Johnson lacked honesty and integrity and had repeatedly lied to his party and the country.
Mr Johnson said he would remain in post until a new leader is chosen by his Conservative Party. However some senior Conservatives have called on him to leave office immediately.
Huw Edwards present BBC News at Ten reporting by political editor Chris Mason.

I don't really follow politics but it really is incredible how brutal it all is. From leading the Conservatives to their biggest victory in three decades to being forced out less than three years later. It's amazing how it can all unravel so quickly.

Agree, changing a leader (for a party at No 10 FFS) has zero effect on global events and circumstances.
Most of the squeeze and suffering in the country today is from outside forces no single country has control over, and it usually is most of the time.
Covid came from China and was allowed to spread via CCP and WHO lied about human to human transmission and covered their lab f up. This has knackered the global supply chain.
Russia is still invading, (albeit poorly), the breadbasket of Europe and Africa in a violent, needless campaign to scrape their dying motherland together to distract from their people from their collapsing economy and the state sucking a fat one.
The global repercussions of this unfounded war led to energy dependency crises that the free world should never have got into in the first place since the cold war sort of ended. This includes our intertwined overdependence on China for every product under the sun we can shave a few dollars off.
Oh and lets not forget, unfortunately Covid, the war, economic fallout, climate change, lack of movement on clean energy and sustainability solutions worldwide and CCP China aren't going away anytime soon.
It is a mess out there and as we take part in a global economy, we are always going to experience the shockwaves.

You less than anybody else have moral rights to speak about democracy.

About time some adults, regardless of their political affilation, in the room make themselves heard. Johnson's main claim is that he delivered Brexit. Well, he never did. Because his Brexit move was never a sincere endeavour on his part. Just a self-serving plot. And too many Brits (well at least, 52% per cent of them, if memory serves) fell for it, and swallowed it, line, hook and sinker. And he never followed up on the consequences. And there you are. It was a disaster waiting to happen. All the signs were there from the onset, loud and clear. And yet, behaving like in the grip of some of magical thinking, too many Brits allowed this to happen. The economic reverberation of Brexit is still under study, but one thing is clear: it does not bode well for the British economy. They never told you that, did they? And Johnson certainly did not. So, there may be a lesson there, should you care. Good night.

Us ordinary people who don’t give a rat’s arse about party-gate, or cake-gate, or whatever-gate. But we do care about all those damn dingy-divers who are now flooding across the English Channel every single day.
Or how us English, our world, our works, our traditions, our values, are now being subsumed by a flood of immigration; and how we are now constantly being told that we are a cancer on the face of humanity, and our works, and our institutions, and our history, are all an outrage. And that we should be ashamed of it! That we are all racist and fascist, and misogynistic, and homophobic, (even when we are gay like David Starky is), and Islam-o-phobic, etcetera...
And Iinstead of going after the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) who were the one’s actually responsible for Covid19 aka the China-virus. Or the WHO (World Health Organisation) and Big-tec, who suppressed the truth about Covid19 for over a year. Instead of concentrating on Vladimir Putin and his criminal invasion of Ukraine; already with 30,000 plus casualties and with umpteen cities in Ukraine devastated. And then an outside chance of a full ICBM (Inter Continental Ballistic Missile) exchange. Instead they had chosen to concentrate on party-gate, or cake-gate, or whatever-gate. It’s called intellectual myopia aka stupidity!
And so they, the wretched legacy media, they have orchestrated the demise of a man who we had voted for as Prime Minister, and voted for by a landslide in 2019.
