- Taiwan's defence ministry has condemned China's military exercises around the self-ruled island as "irrational provocations".
The drills come just three days after the inauguration of Taiwanese president William Lai, whom Beijing has labelled as a "separatist" and a "troublemaker".
Beijing, which has long claimed Taiwan, is performing the drills all around the main island, and the Taipei-controlled islands of Kinmen, Matsu, Wuqiu and Dongyin.
A spokesperson for the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has called them a "strong punishment" for "separatist acts".

You know the U.S the one buying microchips now from Taiwan and Netherlands, right? First off, Taiwan is NOT a self-governing province of China. It is a province but has since 1949 been taken over by the Republic of China (ROC) when it had to flee there from mainland China after it was defeated by CCP. Taiwan in reality is the sovereign state of ROC. Secondly, the leaders in Taipei have to play to the tune of US which uses Taiwan as an anti-China card/ chess. Taiwan is a pawn in the US - China game. Both US and China know it; and Taiwan is trying to manage the situation as best it could.

There's a paradox with China's claim on Taiwan & Taiwan's lack of response to the 9 dash line. The Philippines, Malaysia, and Vietnam are all on the frontline here. Not only islands but low lying seas being fought over as land or more specifically territory takes everyone along for a ride along the 9 dash line. Certain places belong to certain countries and setting up bases near another country is offensive to that country if you did so without their permission. No law, neither the 9 dash line or the law of the sea is going to solve this. Everyone has to establish themselves and stand up for themselves while China searches out everywhere they can find a stronghold. Chinese activities are creating more needs among every country in the region. Some with more power than others. Stand up for yourself or find yourself being neighbor to a Chinese military base.
