The simple reason on why most one-shot characters are villains is because it's significantly easier to write. Plus, on top of that, it is easier to convince someone that the ability can only be used for evil. Take hand guns from real life for example. It's very easy to see a gun and assume the person holding it is going to kill me, because that's the easiest thing to do with a gun. Being a mindless, evil, murderer is easy when you can just blindly shoot people. But it takes more control, thought processing, and reason to use a gun for good. It is inherently more difficult to find positive and useful ways to utilize a gun than just 'kill human'. Same goes for characters in fiction with one-shot abilities. A character who destroys everything they touch is going to be shunned by society and will probably be pushed into becoming a villain. A strange example is Lavagirl from "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl". She's supposed to be a hero and she struggles with the fact that everything she touches turns to ash. In her mind she is evil and destructive because that is what the world tells her. She needs external help from others telling her and ensuring her that she is not evil. The ability itself contradicts what it means to be a hero, which in most cases makes for an extremely interesting character if they choose to still be good. This video above of course is about the villains of anime in particular though, so covering all characters from all fiction with this ability would be much more complicated video lol
Fun fact: in ch. 419 of my hero, it was revealed (I think indirectly???) that decay is a modified version of overhaul where Dr. Garaki (all for one's doctor) removed overhaul's ability to reverse it's effects.
Jojo has technically two one shot abilities in it. Kira’s killer Queen bombs, and Funny Valentines’ victim cloning. He has increased range because of D4C’s clause of needing them to be between two objects. But works fundamentally different due to timeline clashing. Diego died because despite the death of Valentine, his universe counterpart’s head (I believe?) was in the possession of someone, leading to Diego being destroyed.
You know, something odd about Shigaraki’s quirk is that it was revealed his version of it is only HALF of the quirk, since the other half was able to revert the effects
Another example I love is Zora Salazar from Epithet Erased. Her ability, Sundial, lets her dial things forwards or backwards in any process. From falling off a building, to getting from point A to point B, even to someone's lifespan. Either by touch or by imbuing her ability into an object, like a bullet, then hitting a target with said object.
My favourite representation of this is Julius Novachrono from Black Clover. He just drastically increases the age of anyones body to instantly kill them, ageing them to the point of decomposing.
I think AFO should be mentioned too. I know it's not exactly a "touch of death" but if he touches you then it essentially means you're dead because you are suddenly rendered so powerless and defenseless that you're useless from that point onward. It's an interesting twist on the concept of "touch of death". I also really like MHA and how it handles touch of death due to Aizawa. Most of the time it just feels like it's just a contest to see how long the MC can dodge before finding an opening. Due to Aizawa, the touch of death is inactive unless he goes for Aizawa or Shigeraki has to be creative on the spot to actually defeat his opponents. Very interesting imo.
There's a lot of abilities that're functionally a touch of death, a win condition, that can really go into the same pigeonhole, honestly. Naruto's genjutsu got powercrept super hard, to the point where they're all win conditions, either you're immune because sage mode or whatever, or you're not and you lose. Good way to think of it is all-or-nothing abilities, Worm has it right. Either they work and you win, or they don't. Instant death is one such thing. Losing your powers. Getting sealed. Mind control. Path To Victory, or any other sufficiently powerful future-sight ability.
@@manoflead643 I agree but the only reason I bring up AFO is because it is a physical touch and cuz it works off Shigerakis decay well (plus Shigeraki has the same transfer move too)
Ngl my personal favorite 1 shot move comes from my favorite character who’s also from JJBA funny Valentine i just imagine so funny you see someone who looks JUST like you and you go to say hi then you just get evaporated
The Tsukhime visual novel (same verse as the Fate Series) has a protagonist with this kind of ability: Shiki Tohno with the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception can see lines on any object or person, and tracing those lines even with a finger will force the immediate death of that object or person: basically he can cut through anything. To be more specific, anything with the Concept of Death (basically anything that can die in the Nasuverse) has these lines, so Shiki could theoretically kill any character in his verse (yes that includes Gilgamesh, tho good luck with that Shiki) besides the Ultimate Ones and a few others, all of which don't have the Concept of Death, and even then Shiki is one of the only people that can damage them. He does have to concentrate to clearly see the lines of more complex things, for example he has a easier time killing other living beings than inanimate objects. He could even kill concepts, but if he tried to even visualize the lines of death of a concept, his brain would probably explode or something. The protagonist of Kara no Kyoukai, Shiki Ryougi (no correlation with that name) has the same ability, tho she's different since she can turn them off, they consume WAY less stamina and cause WAY less mental stress, and she has actually killed concepts before, like Fujino's Psychic attacks and the future predicted by Mitsuru's Precognition
what about sugar from one piece, who can basically turn anyone into a slave just one touch. No limits have been displayed from the fruit. With her looking like a seemingly innocent child she can fool anyone at first and get close to them, which is all she needs to do in order to win the fight. If she plays her cards right even the strongest oppenent can be turned into a teddy bear in one instant.

the problem with kira (not including btd) is that killer queen is abhorrently slow, josuke proved that its not that hard to just be faster than killer queen in their barrage exchange when he just hit killer queens elbows, also kira himself is just a human so if you break his hand before he can make the motion he wont kill you, dont get me wrong killer queen is one of the strongest stands in terms of destructive capability it just lacks in other departments
I think it would be fun to have an anime protag who's only ability is a oneshot. It'd be something that takes time to do & each battle would be them finding ways to set it up. Have it require something of the opponent as well, so each battle is different.
Ye that scene where mahito gets hard countered by gojo is kinda hilarious. He just runs in. Realizes he can’t do anything and is like Uhh Awkward! And then goes and hides somwhere in the background.
The transfiguration curse technique are op. If you can help your depressed friend by going to the street and find some girl that willing to do the deed on your friend for some cash, then turn her into catgirl. Ur Homie will be thankful for life im sure of that.
I always felt as though Bites the Dust’s time reversal was actually a major flaw. It would kill a person, but then rewind time so they weren’t dead anymore. It practically creates a time loop until someone eventually finds out how to stop the ability and save those who would be blown up. Without the time reversal, the person who just learned Kira’s identity would die and stay dead. Though many Jojo villains have time-based abilities, it seems as though Kira’s time ability actually works against him.
Mahito is probably the most potential villain in the anime (not saying that he shouldnt have died he shouldve because if he lived past shibuya remenber that he learned domain expansion in less than 6 months of existence, he was literally learning more about his abilitys in 6 months he already knew how to do alot of things. Mahito if he had more years of existence wouldve been worse than sukuna if you think about it, no infinity can stop your domain expansion, you dont care how resistent your opponent is just one touch and hes gone.
Actually, Idle Transfiguration can be resisted, as seen by whenever Mahito tries attacking Sukuna. If you asked my opinion on max potential Mahito vs. full power Sukuna (1 vs 1), Then I would say that Sukuna would most definitely win, one way or another. Yes, I think Mahito is very impressive but not on the level of the goat.🗣
akame's murasame felt underused, anytime she was in a position to poison someone with it a normal katana would've worked just fine, the only exception was her final fight with esdeath
I love idle transfiguration cause of how wicked it is, if the bastard turns you into barney, your soul turns into barney, like damn, you're meeting the gates looking like that? Might as well erase my existence like damn
Hokuto no Ken definitively has a good staple "one shot touch of death" power system with the martial arts power system, especially on the protagonists side.
This reminds me of the time my friends and I were making up jojo stands for fun and I came up with “crimson macaroni” pretty much his ability is that if he touches you you turn into a macaroni noodle. Only later did we realize it would take golden experience requiem or possibly dio over heaven to beat him
I don't know if we could count that, but I think Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken would fit. He acually can't touch his opponent and kill him, but as a Master of Hokuto Shinken, the strongest martial art, he have multiple abilities that make his opponent explode, instantly disabled or injured in very various ways. Its also interesting, because he's on the good side.
my favorite ability of this type is one that most people probably dont even think of as a one shot ability. im talking about illumis ability, needle man from hunter x hunter. by sticking a needle anywhere inside the victims body, illumi will immediately gain control over them and the victim will follow illumis command no matter how durable both physically or mentally they are. it is an immediate win if he hits you with his needle even once
I think AFO should be mentioned too. I know it's not exactly a "touch of death" but if he touches you then it essentially means you're dead because you are suddenly rendered so powerless and defenseless that you're useless from that point onward. kiras 1 shot is probably the most op if he was actually smart and thought outside the box to make his ability stronger like using a pistol with exploding bullets and not just coins you can easily react to (albeit idle transfiguration could also do that as weve seen mahito use humans as bullets which he can transform into anything he wants once it hits someone)
Lavagirl from "Sharkboy and Lavagirl" is an interesting addition to the list lol. Similarly to Rouge from X-Men, she is a hero even though her power better suits a villain. The heros with one-shot abilities tend to be more interesting given the natural dilemma of their power. One-shot powers contradict what it means to be a hero, which is why it's seen mostly in villains.
It becomes even more fascinating when you realize that had Yuji not clipped Mahito's wings when he did, he likely would've continued to grow in power until he rivaled Gojo and Sukuna. He was a real problem.
ill be real bro its amazing that it took 1/5th of your video to actually start talking about your point, im here for this kind of video and i wanna hear your opinion, i dont wanna sit thru 3 minutes of pre-explaining
The hobi hobi fruit from one piece is also pretty scary. One touch and you turn into a toy, everyone forgets you and you become a slave for the rest of your life, plus the user can't age so they won't die for a long time
There are also other "death touch" such as in jojo like "the hand" , "cream", the pillar men or even heavens door (if well used), tusk act 4 with his golden ratio and some "non canon" characters like OH DIO which can rewrite reality with his punch I also found some one piece characters like that, like crocodile, which can dehydrate to death any persons, like he did to luffy, or the guy from fishman island, which can target people with his left hand touch, or even the rust fruit user at enies, which could completely rust anyone and anything at touch.
Cream and The Hand can be one shot abilities, but they can also miss and just take an arm or something. A gun can do that, too. But if “using a gun” was a one shot ability there would be no end to the list of one shot characters.
I think the main thing that makes a ToD ability good is when they don't necessarily rely on it. Obviously an antagonist can't just instakill the MC, it wouldn't be great, so they have to use other attacks while the MC watches for the instant death. Overhaul and Mahito are very good at this, keeping up the attack even when outranged or otherwise incapable of using their ToD. This is why i also think Decay is a bad ToD, its too all or nothing and had to be buffed to absolute balls just to compete, but at that point it had to be sealed so it couldn't just one shot everyone instantly.
my favorite kind of 1 shot ability is tghe uno shoot movs from poket monsters my favourite type of one shot abilities are the one hit Ko moves from pokemon because they don't always hit. i[m saying this bc pokemon has an anime and this is used take ash ketchups battle with cynthia in the masters eight with spiritombs destiny bond. (this is half a joke i still like the idea of the accuracy or the you go down with me situation with destiny bond)
gonna be the nerd in the comments. The crumble into dust part of decay is just anime censorship. They quite literally decay into clumps of bone and goo in the manga. Those panels where he first awakened his powers and touched his family was brutal
there is also flandre from touhou that can just see the "eyes" of things and by crushing that eye she can destroy anything and everything. the only thing that balances that power is the fact that the world of touhou is not really that serious, so no one really kils each other
The worst part about mahito technique is that while being transform You can feel the pain while being transform and despite already dead due to not able to withstand the sudden transform, you still concious that whole time Not to say sometimes people still alive and can witness themselve become a bomb or smth(they cant stop themselve cause they are in mahito control)
honestly whenever either touch of death or extreme regenration is put into a story you know you're in for a gorefest, like dorohedoro people or ajin, when people stop thinking themselfs as people and just as disposable meat chunks and do some crazy shit, or for example not and insta kill one shot like mahito where you might be forced to chop off an arm IS 1000 times better then unavoidable 100% death no matter what, which is why i think shigaraki was alot better before all his buffs, you could actually get touched by him for abit like we saw in the first season and only lose like all the layers of the skin and maybe some muscle.
Im shocked that there's no mention of Fist of the North Star where Kenshiro's whole deal is that he only needs one touch to kill you. Hence the famous "You're already Dead" meme. All he needs is hit the opponents pressure points and that fight is already over.
Out of all the non-villain one shot characters, soi fon is probably my favorite. Her ability is like an assassin’s hidden dagger, where if she strikes a person, a butterfly appears, and striking again in a “cone-shaped” radius, the target will instantly die, no matter their strength. It’s perfect for the 2nd division captain, who is effectively a seasoned assassin. The thing that balances it is that it is almost completely ineffective against faster, typically stronger opponents, but if she somehow managed to strike say aizen twice in the same spot, even in his full evolution form, it would kill him. It’s a nice little balance, a guaranteed-kill move requires more speed than the opponent, and to strike them in the same general area twice. Then her bankai is an actually ballistic missile lol.

Fun fact: in ch. 419 of my hero, it was revealed (I think indirectly???) that decay is a modified version of overhaul where Dr. Garaki (all for one's doctor) removed overhaul's ability to reverse it's effects.
Not overhauls ability directly but one similar
@@Jay10420 so a modified version, as op stated.
@@DiosluxBro doesn't understand the meaning of similar
@@halften5818 bro doesn't understand the meaning of redundancy

Jojo has technically two one shot abilities in it. Kira’s killer Queen bombs, and Funny Valentines’ victim cloning. He has increased range because of D4C’s clause of needing them to be between two objects. But works fundamentally different due to timeline clashing. Diego died because despite the death of Valentine, his universe counterpart’s head (I believe?) was in the possession of someone, leading to Diego being destroyed.
Yep Lucy cut off og Diego's head and brought it near AU Diego and then he collided to death with the head
Also c-moon has a one shot
Cream
ZA HANDO!
Heavens Door! Remove his ability to cu-
nah but imagine rohan writing, “i fucking die”
The Hand is another oneshot, as is Vanilla Ice
You know, something odd about Shigaraki’s quirk is that it was revealed his version of it is only HALF of the quirk, since the other half was able to revert the effects
I think Scar from FMA is a really solid example of this trope too🙏
Another example I love is Zora Salazar from Epithet Erased. Her ability, Sundial, lets her dial things forwards or backwards in any process. From falling off a building, to getting from point A to point B, even to someone's lifespan. Either by touch or by imbuing her ability into an object, like a bullet, then hitting a target with said object.
Was not expecting an epithet erased mention! Nice!
My favourite representation of this is Julius Novachrono from Black Clover. He just drastically increases the age of anyones body to instantly kill them, ageing them to the point of decomposing.
That’s kind of like grateful dead from p5 jjba
like Barragan's ability from Bleach
@@manoflead643 I agree but the only reason I bring up AFO is because it is a physical touch and cuz it works off Shigerakis decay well (plus Shigeraki has the same transfer move too)
Literally Killer Queen is the best and most well rounded one shot ability in this list. Also the most potent and way faster acting
Araki was cooking crazy peaks
0:58 You say that, but thats probably the only way to raise the tension from one touch one kill
The protagonist of Kara no Kyoukai, Shiki Ryougi (no correlation with that name) has the same ability, tho she's different since she can turn them off, they consume WAY less stamina and cause WAY less mental stress, and she has actually killed concepts before, like Fujino's Psychic attacks and the future predicted by Mitsuru's Precognition
same with Shiki Ryougi from Garden of Sinners/Kara no Kyoukai
what about sugar from one piece, who can basically turn anyone into a slave just one touch. No limits have been displayed from the fruit. With her looking like a seemingly innocent child she can fool anyone at first and get close to them, which is all she needs to do in order to win the fight. If she plays her cards right even the strongest oppenent can be turned into a teddy bear in one instant.
Sugar limit is that she needs to be constantly to be conscious for the ability to work
@@Y.T.STachiis it true that she never slept? I thought it was more if she was knocked out or unintentionally fell unconscious somehow
@@ChickenNugget7 yeah its almost definitely more she cant be knocked out than just sleep. also she has to MAKE a contract with you, if she touches you and you can get away- you have no contract. i think it happened to one of the toys, but im not sure which one.

@@ChickenNugget7 getting knocked out is very different than sleeping, she can sleep normally but if she gets knocked out her ability stops and thats the only way other than killing her i assume
the problem with kira (not including btd) is that killer queen is abhorrently slow, josuke proved that its not that hard to just be faster than killer queen in their barrage exchange when he just hit killer queens elbows, also kira himself is just a human so if you break his hand before he can make the motion he wont kill you, dont get me wrong killer queen is one of the strongest stands in terms of destructive capability it just lacks in other departments
I think it would be fun to have an anime protag who's only ability is a oneshot. It'd be something that takes time to do & each battle would be them finding ways to set it up. Have it require something of the opponent as well, so each battle is different.
One touch powers are cool and all except for when they can’t touch the target 😳
Ye that scene where mahito gets hard countered by gojo is kinda hilarious. He just runs in. Realizes he can’t do anything and is like Uhh Awkward! And then goes and hides somwhere in the background.
@@lordofthehawkswell.. at least he can transfigurante his own body so his fights with yuji are still cool compared to if he had straight hands
@@jfkmax yeah.
In MHA shigaraki doesn't need to touch anyone anymore.😅
The transfiguration curse technique are op. If you can help your depressed friend by going to the street and find some girl that willing to do the deed on your friend for some cash, then turn her into catgirl. Ur Homie will be thankful for life im sure of that.
or turn ur homie into a catgirl
Bungo stray dogs, Fyodor… honestly probably the best person to have an ability that’s sorta instant death.
The Hand could also be a one shot ability, given the fact the it deletes matter
@@Solikapnanami also resisted it by protecting his soul
akame's murasame felt underused, anytime she was in a position to poison someone with it a normal katana would've worked just fine, the only exception was her final fight with esdeath
If you really think about it every stand is op. Cream is a literal black hole, Wonder of U controls calamity, tusk is tusk, and the list goes on
I like th idea behind mahitos ability.
Transforming people using an image created by observation of their not flaws but pure hater characteristics
He's not a villain but Shiki Tohno definitely does this best
Tsukihime mentioned
The chair throw of death
villains with one shots are what makes a scene scary ngl
I love idle transfiguration cause of how wicked it is, if the bastard turns you into barney, your soul turns into barney, like damn, you're meeting the gates looking like that? Might as well erase my existence like damn
Yoshikage Kira is literally the Embodiment Of "One Shotting Your Ass".
If Decay = Homelander, then that makes Overhaul = Soldier Boy, if you get the point.
Hokuto no Ken definitively has a good staple "one shot touch of death" power system with the martial arts power system, especially on the protagonists side.
Your such an underrated creator
Watched this, thought it was really high quality and I just feel like this video will blow up

My favorite ability, even in games, is regeneration. Can be attacking recklessly and back off when low on hp
Awesome! Thanks for the video!

Killer queen is currently and always be my favorite stand (d4c is close second) best ability ever!
My favorite one shot ability comes from jjk as well cleave is so fire but yet so underutilized
I think AFO should be mentioned too. kiras 1 shot is probably the most op if he was actually smart and thought outside the box to make his ability stronger like using a pistol with exploding bullets and not just coins you can easily react to (albeit idle transfiguration could also do that as weve seen mahito use humans as bullets which he can transform into anything he wants once it hits someone)
I can't wait to see Parnkgjas fight animated in the TYBW
Yogiri definitely the most op one shoot ability
There are 3 types of most OP abilities in anime
1. 1-touch=death
2. Copy any shit
3. Nah, you can't hit me
all 3 in jjk
1. Mahito's Idle Transfiguration
2. Yuta Okkotsu's Copy
3. Satoru Gojo's Infinity

1. Cream and The Hand’s space erasion
2. White Snake’s Stand stealing disks
3. Funny Valentine with D4C: Love Train

U don’t have to watch the video then? It’s a presentation and I think it was entertaining atleast?
The hobi hobi fruit from one piece is also pretty scary. One touch and you turn into a toy, everyone forgets you and you become a slave for the rest of your life, plus the user can't age so they won't die for a long time
There are also other "death touch" such as in jojo like "the hand" , "cream", the pillar men or even heavens door (if well used), tusk act 4 with his golden ratio and some "non canon" characters like OH DIO which can rewrite reality with his punch
I also found some one piece characters like that, like crocodile, which can dehydrate to death any persons, like he did to luffy, or the guy from fishman island, which can target people with his left hand touch, or even the rust fruit user at enies, which could completely rust anyone and anything at touch.
Cream and The Hand can be one shot abilities, but they can also miss and just take an arm or something. A gun can do that, too. But if “using a gun” was a one shot ability there would be no end to the list of one shot characters.
3:29 any thing WHAT ABOUT THE CAPE
He can chose what and what not to decay
Idk if you've talked about this before but id like you to talk about damage transfer even tho there aren't that much i know other than hidan
Bro like mahito has one of the only powers in fiction that have me chills bro like that movie theater shit was horrible
your forgetting that one guys ability from my overpowered one shot ability or smth like that where he can just think he wants you dead and your dead
The Decay quirk was derived from the overhaul quirk
slayer's last horizon will forever haunt me
These are all my favorite
These three on a team and the world is most likely doomed seeing as how just Shigiraki alone is an international threat.
A lot of people hate these villians, but I like them a lot.
My favourite is yoshikage kira because of the *click*
I love kira so mutch even after he died he had aura just get killed by plot
my favorite kind of 1 shot ability is tghe uno shoot movs from poket monsters
my favourite type of one shot abilities are the one hit Ko moves from pokemon because they don't always hit. i[m saying this bc pokemon has an anime and this is used take ash ketchups battle with cynthia in the masters eight with spiritombs destiny bond. (this is half a joke i still like the idea of the accuracy or the you go down with me situation with destiny bond)
this was lowk a mad good video
Kenshiros Hokuto Shin Ken is probably the best and also the basis for Killer Queens ability. IMO
The fact both for MHA are actually just overhauls quirk but overhaul got the creation and transformation meanwhile shiggy got the pure decay
gonna be the nerd in the comments. The crumble into dust part of decay is just anime censorship. They quite literally decay into clumps of bone and goo in the manga. Those panels where he first awakened his powers and touched his family was brutal
The Death Dealing, another really broken oneshot ability.
"Killer queen has already touched the subcribe button"
Damn my 3 favorite villains
there is also flandre from touhou that can just see the "eyes" of things and by crushing that eye she can destroy anything and everything. the only thing that balances that power is the fact that the world of touhou is not really that serious, so no one really kils each other
I think Santa Claus’s ability from the CSM manga is a better representation of the Cheese Touch, since it spreads lmao
The Hand technically got a 1 Shot ability, if it don’t miss
The worst part about mahito technique is that while being transform
You can feel the pain while being transform and despite already dead due to not able to withstand the sudden transform, you still concious that whole time
Not to say sometimes people still alive and can witness themselve become a bomb or smth(they cant stop themselve cause they are in mahito control)
honestly whenever either touch of death or extreme regenration is put into a story you know you're in for a gorefest, like dorohedoro people or ajin, when people stop thinking themselfs as people and just as disposable meat chunks and do some crazy shit, or for example not and insta kill one shot like mahito where you might be forced to chop off an arm IS 1000 times better then unavoidable 100% death no matter what, which is why i think shigaraki was alot better before all his buffs, you could actually get touched by him for abit like we saw in the first season and only lose like all the layers of the skin and maybe some muscle.
The deadliest ability: "im gonna touch you bro"
Im surprised you didnt talk about the soul ability of pain from naruto
Kumagawa for medaka box is technically also a one shot cause he can erase concepts of I’m not mistaken
being jumpscared by fucking last horizon is insane
Hakai is literally existence erasure. It’s pretty OP.
Im shocked that there's no mention of Fist of the North Star where Kenshiro's whole deal is that he only needs one touch to kill you. Hence the famous "You're already Dead" meme.
All he needs is hit the opponents pressure points and that fight is already over.
Can you talk about Kaguya’s “All killing Ash bones” from Naruto shippudden
Then her bankai is an actually ballistic missile lol.
have u even watched bleach lmao, soi fon literally uses it on aizen and it doesnt work. it doesnt work on people stronger than she is.
