Big respect to you for also sharing the less cheery moments. This will help others who might feel less alone when they find themselves in a similar situation, alone in a new city, not having made real friends yet etc. I think you're doing exactly the right thing, pursuing your dreams. This is you! Don't doubt yourself. Claim the space. Trust your vision.
Thank you so much! That really means a lot to me. It’s a huge jump, so it’s normal to have mixed feelings. People in my class not feeling familiar after the first 2 days? Totally normal, yet still a hard feeling in the moment. I watched so many “moving to Paris” vlogs before this, most of them being cheerful and positive. I was feeling mixed feelings, so that just wasn’t in the cards for me! Who’s to say that I can’t have a good time afterwards.
I spent a semester in Paris during college (not perfume-related) and can so relate to your feelings just before going and when you first arrived, but it was a such a wonderful experience! That was years ago, but watching this made me feel so nostalgic. It takes bravery to do what you're doing. Thank you for taking us along on your journey, I'm excited to see what you choose to share.
I hope you had a magical time in Paris! You must look back at all the times spent and friendships from Paris. I hope to keep the nostalgic vibes coming in future vlogs!!
Oh, Emma, I just wanted to give you a hug when you were newly arrived in Paris and feeling homesick. As someone who also moved to another country to study, I know that feeling of culture shock and displacement all too well. So glad that 3 months onward you're in your element and loving it. Yes, I would love a PR perfume haul video. Please be as brutally honest as you can from your perch of perfumery student! Haha. And please do keep vlogging about perfumery school. As someone with more than a passing interest in fragrances, I'd love to see as much BTS as possible! xoxo 💜
i absolutely adored this video! thank you for keeping everything so real and not being afraid to share both the positives and less fun side too and also for just providing such interesting insight to the process of perfumery school! i love these style of videos where it's a vlog mixed with an informative/updates sitdown. can't wait for more 💗
I really appreciate you being open about the struggle of losing the comfort of familiar people. Between working out of state for a few summers and having friends move away after college, I have felt this so deeply for years now and haven't heard many other people share feeling that loneliness and isolation
I’m so happy you included your complicated emotions about moving and starting school as well. When I’ve had big changes like this I’ve struggled so much and it’s nice to see other people who have felt the same ❤❤
Thank you! Honestly there’s no point of pretending that moving isn’t hard or that I was 100% happy because I simply wasn’t. Those feelings are completely normal and exactly where someone should be who is going through an adjustment like that. There’s also the weight of my influence, in a way. I’m just starting out in this program, so I’m not sure if I will like it or if it will be the place for me. I don’t want to act like perfumery school is the best investment in the world and influence someone to follow in my footsteps, especially when I’m ~1 week in and struggling. Happy to show the journey, and thank you for the super kind comments!!💗💗 Hope you are doing well.
I remember moving to spain by myself so I understand EXACTLY how you feel. You’re probably much better off now but indulge in whatever you’re feeling, don’t rush close relationships because you’re lonely, be open but take your time. It will all come to you. You’re already enjoying your neighbourhood so keep that up. It helps A LOT. So proud of you Emma! You’re inspiring to take the plunge on a lots I’ve thought of doing myself.
This video was so realistic! As a person that moved to a different country, with different language and Culture, I completely know how hard it can be. you are following your dreams and everything will be ok.
Yay, I’ve been waiting for this! I’m so interested in your journey and love watching your videos. What you said about being overwhelmed with the change is totally normal - everyone has similar worries and fears when they dive into a new situation. Glad you’re feeling more settled now!
I really applaud your courage and wish the best for you in this new chapter of life! ❤ As someone who moved very far to pursue a dream creative education... its really not easy. The high art world is not only insular but often very stratified in terms of class. I found myself unable to relate to my peers often, not because they weren't nice but because many came from wealthy backgrounds or attended specialized art schools since they were in middle or high school. Someone like me who was mostly self taught and went to public school was a rarity. I felt creatively underdeveloped compared to other students, less disciplined, so I began to isolate myself. Don't do what I did, embrace your ideas and mistakes and forge ahead.
I did a month studying in Ireland, and even in an English speaking country I just sat on the balcony and cried my first night. I didn’t feel connected to my peers, and I was convinced I had just wasted my time and money. Of course, it ended up fine and I really enjoyed it ❤️❤️❤️ I get you 100%
You are so aspirational, I like your story! 🤩 I loved to play with essential oils when I worked in organic cosmetics shop and I love perfume. I would be interested in learning more about the school, the city and some interesting stuff from school. And if you made any frangrances of your own already, then I'd also like to hear about them! 😊
So happy for you! You’re doing everything right and are so wise for doing so. Not sure if you remember but I’m Vanessa from scentxplore in nyc. Love your content. Like you during my uni years I took science classes but any chance I had along with my elective classes were all deep in the arts. It was bad to the point I had completed almost 400 credits with no real major, when my academic advisor stopped me and told me to just pick something and graduate. In hindsight, I should have done what I was passionate about but instead now I’m in the medical field. *Shakes my head* I’m so happy you followed your heart. It will pay off. If I ever bump into you again at one of those scent conventions I’ll be sure to chat a little longer and perhaps pick your brain. That proprietary scent test has gotten me so curious about my own sniff-ability. Thanks for being so sweet and happy holidays!
Omg I just moved to Spain from the US exactly when you moved and I felt so similarly in that I was excited and knew for sure that it was exactly what I wanted to do but like… existential dread 99% of the time lol (and I had like 7 months to adjust to it not 7 days!)
Love this for you!!! Can you please a video about I guess the topic of moving to France/general knowledge and dos and donts or just any info you think would be important for anyone wanting to move there or to visit!!
Watched the first version and now watching this one LOL. totally interested in seeing a PR haul. also! what boots r you wearing at 22:29, they are gorgeous. are they comfortable?
They’re Blundstones! Super comfy- they’re actually my second pair! I have a black pair that I’ve had since high school and just got the maroon ones last year. go.shopmy.us/p-11282992
That was so interesting! Yes! I want to hear your honest opinion about the new Kayali, because I have some surprisingly unpopular opinions and I'd like someone to break down why it smells like that.
Can’t believe I never thought of that . I usually try to warm it in my hands and then slowly rotate myself in front of my heater like a rotisserie chicken.
Haha we’ll see!! This footage was from the pile last time I visited in October- I think there will be fewer for this visit since the mail services in Canada have been on strike for a month. Nonetheless, I will bring you a video- perhaps between 10 minutes and 1hr. We shall see!! 💗💗
It was closed so we had to go somewhere different! We ended up going to a “California” restaurant that had food that a 19 year old college boy would make lmaoo
New beginnings are so hard and exciting in the same time❤ Would you mind to share the name of the ISIPCAs summer school? They have more types and not all of them have great reviews...
What a wonderful(and stressful) experience ! I hope you like it here. It's totally okay if you're not comfortable answering, but I was wondering how affordable this whole experience is considering how big of a move it is and also how pricey Paris is. Was your part-time job enough? take care xx
Studying perfumery post-Bachelor’s is expensive, usually involves relocation, and is completely unnecessary to break into the world of perfumery. For me, I wanted to be formally trained and educated in perfumery to supplement my posts as a content creator, but this isn’t necessarily the best path to become a perfumer, if that is your goal. I can thankfully keep posting while I’m here to have a bit of an income to help with rent, etc, but most of my classmates are putting their professional lives on pause to study here. ISIPCA is a professional program (same level as a Master’s, but not actually a Master’s) so I can imagine it might be hard to find work, as it is incredibly niche and not globally recognized. Also, the program is hard, competitive, and only maybe 1-2 students per year (IF that) actually become perfumers.. so I’ve seen on LinkedIn. So it depends on your goals for yourself!
What was the criteria for you getting admitted to the program?ow difficult was it and what were your stats that allowed you to be accepted? Thank you!!
Thankfully I have 4 years of French under my belt + the obligatory Canadian understanding of vocabulary in French since everything here must be legally labelled in both English and French :)

Please do a video about apartment hunting in France, I've heard its kinda difficult.
Unfortunately I didn’t really have a normal experience! I’m just taking over a friend’s apartment so I didn’t really do any hunting

Hi Emma
Do you find it difficult to do long distance with your boyfriend?
Very proud of you for going through this!

Jealous why! You should come to Paris lol
Why do you think that is not for everyone? I’m very interested in this program but I’m concerned with a lot of stıff

🤎🤎🤎
Doe this mean you there for the next 3 yrs?
Hahaha big question
Vous parlez français? J’aimerais regarder un vidéo complètement en français 🥰
Je parle un petit peu de français, environ le niveau B1 . Probablement pas assez pour un vidéo mais c'est une bonne idée pour améliorer mon français !
I hope you speak some French since the mean Parisians will eat you up if one dare to speak English to them
Joke aside, all the best!
Thankfully I have 4 years of French under my belt + the obligatory Canadian understanding of vocabulary in French since everything here must be legally labelled in both English and French :)
The title is a bit obnoxious. I would think you'd have to move to France to study perfume seriously.
Do you have a recommendation for a better title?
