    I’m excited to see the build. I love seeing old cars saved and not rotting away in the junkyard.

      Yet, leaving them all out in that field, whether they run or not and only getting one going occasionally to me is no different than letting them rot. They're still all outdoors in the elements year round. Only difference is it's a cleaner junkyard. Like that old white dodge truck he got roadworthy a year or two ago. Does he still drive it or does it just sit outside and be pretty much a lawn ornament to mow around? A lot of these channels say they're saving a car, but they aren't, they're basically just moving them from one spot where they've sat for years to another spot they'll sit in for years. I love the ColdWarMotors channel, but Scott isn't really saving the vast majority of those old cars, they're just sitting and continuing to rot away at his place instead of at someone else's place. I also like the RESTORED channel, but a week or two ago I commented that seeing the channel name, how many cars had they went on to RESTORE as I've never seen them actually restore anything, just drag it out of the woods and see if they can make it run long enough to park it a block away. I still haven't seen an answer.

    I’m not opposed to the 318 at all, they were a great small block and in my opinion one of the most underrated motors. They were nothing spectacular but enough power to get in trouble and really didn’t have a lot of problems like a lot of the more popular engines. They sound very nice with some 3” exhaust and a couple cherry bombs 👍

      Check out Gary's Garage. His naturally aspirated , stroker 318 is making over 600 hp, and about to dip into the 10's in the 1/4.

    • @alan6832
      @alan6832 2 роки тому +5

      Enough power to get in trouble is exactly what you don't want. If you can't outrun the cops, in helicopters, then there's no reason to be able to top 70mph; and the flathead 6, with mediocre ring seating is plenty to do that. Everything has to be fast with him.
      The priority should be to turn out simple transportation as quickly and cheaply as possible, preferably without damaging collector value too much, so throw rings in the flathead 6, seals in the trans, and put it back, then make it street legal, fix the heat, and flip it.
      Then for the Satellite, the underside need not be pretty, just strong enough; so get under it with a welder and a selection of scrap metal and weld it in enough to hold everything together, spray wax it to prevent repeat rust, and off it goes.

      @@alan6832 collector value doesn’t really apply to everything that is old, I guarantee nobody is out there looking for that car with a 6 cylinder specifically. Dylan is about mixing and matching and making something out of nothing that’s got enough power to make noise and burn tires. It’s not like he’s pulling apart numbers matching big block mopars that are actually worth something. Dylan has a lot of rough looking cars so if he says the underside of that satellite is unfixable then I believe him 👍

    • @MaxGiganteum
      @MaxGiganteum 2 роки тому +3

      @ Minnesota Tomcat
      The question isn't whether or not the rust damage is fixable... it's whether or not it's worth it to HIM to fix the damage. From what I remember seeing in previous video footage, the damage was bad but it wasn't THAT bad. If someone with the talent chose to, the Satellite could be restored. Would it be worth it from a standpoint of financial gain? Maybe, maybe not... but I doubt it would be to the average guy. Of course, the average guy wouldn't possess the tools nor the talent to complete the job so it's a moot point when talking about the financial side of things. IMHO, what needs an answer right now is what is the car worth at large to anyone other than Dylan? I ask this question for one reason. Is anyone out there willing to take on the project with the intent of keeping the Satellite original as can be done? What are they willing to pay for it as it sits? I call to attention these things because I believe the smart play, and the best play, is to keep surviving numbers matching vehicles as they are for preservation. Why? Because every time one is changed, there is one less original example out there to see and enjoy. It isn't like you can just replace them and heaven knows the odds are we'll never build cars the way they did in the past again as sad as that may be. My logical conclusion is to save what can be saved. It's also often easy to get the same vehicle that's already been modified... and proceed to make the changes that you wish to make on it instead of using the survivors. Yes, the Satellite is owned by Dylan and he can do what he wants but I will still urge everyone to consider the possibilities and look at the big picture before moving forward. Peace & good vibes to all!

    The Poly 318 was the main V8 for 1958 with the optional 350 Golden Commando as the upgrade, so technically it is correct for the car too, also from what I've read a 727 automatic transmissions can be made to work with the push button shifter if your going that route.

    For sure the 58 with the 318 will be a great build. The time and money will be well worth the effort. The 318s were good engines and over performed if built just right. Pulley combinations, valve spring shims, carb jets, torque converter change out and etc. will make a 318 quick. Best of luck to you. I raced several 318 engines back in the early to late sixties. Yes! She gets a 318! Woohoo! Glass packs and duals for sure! Also like that it's come from the Satellite and that the Satellite is going to live on with something more befitting its colour and stance. When I think of the 'rodder creed, you're right - there was a large amount of low budget mods that you did in order to make something go better. Finding another good engine, a replacement pair of bucket seats and console to replace an unwanted bench seat, using house carpet instead of paying for an expensive set of repros - these I have done myself over the years and saved my money for the likes of a decent exhaust system, a new carburettor, maybe even a decent sound system. The 1977 Mini I own nowadays has been done with this mentality also. You could also call it a shout toward recycling things that would otherwise sit and rot away! All the best for this project, Dylan. Looking forward to seeing progress on both cars as time goes by.

The engine I found was in an 84 300ZX that had been rear ended, i was expecting to have trouble finding my engine and expected to have to find a new vg30 and parts swap, so already awesome to find a car with my same engine, what made it ever better is the engine was clean, i mean super clean, and freash paint on it, just a little bit of oil. If i had to guess that engine had been recently rebuilt, maybe had 500 miles on it, checked the water pump ect, it all was new looking inside. As always great video Dylan, I think the 383 would have been a good volunteer for this car since they would have been readily available in junkyard cars in early sixties, those transmissions were very dangerous if you jack up the back of the car to change the tire with one wheel off the ground it could roll and fall off the jack. Would really like to find a car like this myself.

    Also if it’s a push button or a on the column, does that change price much?

    • @GetDougDimmadomed

      Generally speaking, the higher the trim package, the more expensive/desirable the car. If it has the funky gadgets most people didn't get/couldn't afford, it'll be a lot more money. Especially on rare cars.
      My mother took one look at this car and said "it's pretty common". I would imagine you could find one pretty easily stateside from forums or classic junkyards. Don't know if you want a project or a driver-ready one, but forums, junkyards and sometimes Facebook are the way to go for projects or leads. Join a vintage Plymouth group and you'll definitely find leads. Always look stateside first because the import cost will be more than you pay for the car, $3000-$10,000.
      Even modern junkyards might have some leads, because occasionally they get vintage/rare cars sold to them and they set them aside, either for themselves to fix or to sell as whole to someone who wants to restore it. 9/10 times the junkyard employee is a car enthusiast, so they should have good leads.

    In 62 I kelp losing my mains in my 51 cranbrook ply
    So I went to the wrecker (back then) found a Chrysler 260 six.
    It was nay 3 inches longer, no problem.
    I was taking auto tech in college so I bored it oversize , put a truck clutch behind it,
    Make sure to replace water displacement tube in block that runs behind the cyls to cool them
    It ran 60 in second gear.
    Mill the head 60 tho , I split the exhaust for duals,
    Chrysler actually made dual intake and exhaust but my friend wouldn’t part with his.
    Might be cheaper to just get a 318 from the local wrecker , clean the outside and tell everyone you worked it over
    And enjoy.

    Hi there Dylan and all you watching this series come lately. I was and am fascinated by those jet/shark like fins on the two front fenders. As of yet Dylan, I haven't heard you bring up these two accent bits that to me are just so unique to the era.
    Just to be honest I've jumped around on this series quite alot so I may have missed you mention them but I wanted to bring forth my specific crush on how much I love such period adornments of the jet age design trim pieces that was added to cars of this era.
    And to be sure I love that you have such a CRUSH on this model year of a Plymouth due to a classic book/movie and that you for so long have wanted to own one. Dylan your fascination with this car makes your videos of this particular Roadsteration so much fun for us to watch as you get it ready for the MOPARTY 2022. Thanks for taking your subscribers along for the ride.
    One more thing I have to comment on is how you spoke about nearly tearing up when that young fella gave you that tiny model all painted up to match your Savoy, I can say here in the privacy of my home that I did tear up with a blubber in my throat. 😂
