I wasn't familiar with this case but it reminds me of the teenage girl who was similarly tortured and killed in Japan, Junko Furuta, which is one of the worst crimes I've ever heard of. Her killers got hardly any prison time either.
This is the one encased in drum filled with concrete. There are movies based on this case. Their sentences are light because they were (more horrifyingly) juveniles. Sick really. I watched a documentary explaining how the boys ended up that way. They never had a better life after that incident, all spiraled down eventually.
Such a bold move to say “we didn’t mean to kill her” when you had her decapitated head inside a hello kitty doll in your freezer… surprised the court didn’t buy that one

What’s more is Sylvia was tortured and killed by her caregiver, caregiver’s children, and neighborhood kids over a *3 month* period at 16 years old, and knowingly or unknowingly her parents put her in this situation and her sisters contributed to the torture (although one was forced to comply at the threat of receiving the same treatment if she didn’t, and she was already physically disabled to begin with). There’s an *extremely* detailed and sadly accurate Wikipedia article about the “murder of Sylvia Likens” which details all the abuse and the escalation of it, and how she was put in this situation in the first place. Even movies were made of this case (An American Crime, The Girl Next Door). I’d love to see you cover this case and make it digestible (I couldn’t get halfway through the Wiki page).
I believe that evil exists. The spiritual world exists, and this is something that defies human logic. That said, I would say it's a thing you discover with certain experiences. For those who believe, demons (or the equivalent of that) know that human beings are weak and therefore easily used for an end, to cause misfortune and as much pain as possible. Some people are simply evil incarnate, going beyond any diagnosis such as psychopathy and the like.

Aria, the young girlfriend was also involved in torturing the victim. Also it was rumored that she stole the money to pay for her sick grandmas medical bill.
Goddammit. I wish that had come up in my research. Sorry I missed that. I can't 100% fault the child though, since she was a victim as well - she was a child being groomed and manipulated by a grown man. But I still should've noted that she was involved in the torture, so apologies there.
the prosecutors likely brought the charges they did in order to guarantee a conviction. if there wasn’t enough evidence to definitively prove murder, they may have been acquitted
The thing is. They boiled flesh and organs and fed to dogs. Only hear cooked skull was found with some teeth, also according to the men she killed herself with ice overdose (meth) while they left her alone in a room she swallowed the ice they left behind, i read this in some chinese article and official court file. She atleast died of dignity if that is true. The doctor argued that it (white pus from her mouth) could be caused by beating but as body wasnt found it couldnt be proven they murdered her. They charged them with oife in prison with 25 year appeal. One got out in 2014 but now is in jail since january for assaulting a girl. Also chen is almost 64 and his appeal was denied in 2014, therefore he aint gettin out in his life

I feel extremely bad for her, and this is a horrifying thing that should never happen. I feel bad for the woman and am glad the sickos were caught, but this could have been so easily avoided. No matter what you do, never, EVER steal from a gang. This is what they do to people who do, and I hope this case spreads awareness about the horrible things that can happen when you mess with the wrong people
It's definitely a cautionary tale. Unfortunately that's how some of these gangs operate - they take advantage of people like Fan Man-Yee and put them in a position where they get desperate. This case feels so similar to junko Furuta from Japan her murders were also connected to their mafia Yakuza the only differences being junkos murders were tried as juveniles so go a lesser sentence and junko spent about 40 days of torture and and abuse both cases are just horrendous and cruel though

I collect crime memorabilia and haunted objects so I do enjoy reading true crime but I never really feel "affected" by it but stories like this really move me and make me angry. So much pain for someone to go through

Maybe the police charged him with manslaughter because their case for manslaughter would have been stronger than their case for murder (evidence wise).. A conviction of manslaughter is better than no conviction

Glad to get to know more about this case. I can’t believe how sick these people are aswell, not even the punishment they got is enough. This will probally be ingrained in my mind, also the fact they didn’t even admit to wanting to kill her is even more sick. These are true monsters, i don’t know how they would even say they didn’t mean to kill her, while stuffing her skull into a plushy, Trully unbelievable.
This personally has to be one of the most messed up cases I've ever heard of, and that 44 days one with Junko Furuta. Rest in peace to her and Fan Man-Yee, this was really disturbing for me to watch. I hope the people that tortured these wonderful and beautiful women rot in hell.
You should cover the killing of Renee Hartevelt in Paris in 1981. This case reminds me a little of it. Her killer Issei Sagawa was released on a legal technicality involving international law and insanity.

Sometimes courts will push for the lighter verdict since it easier to get them convicted that way, hence the manslaughter instead of murder, plus with other crimes the sentencing would be the same as if they had them up for murder instead.

This and Junko Furuta case are one of if not the most horrifying and brutal cases out there. at least in this situation the perpetrators were jailed for life. With possibility of perole, which they don't deserve but like it's still life in prison and as far as I know they're still there. I don't know if I should even suggest Junko's case to you...because it's just as horrific and it's made so, so much worse by the perpetrators being teenagers and the victim being only 17 years old...but at the same time I think her story deserves to be told...
Absolutely Nina. Multiple people have brought up Junko Furuta as another similar case. Both these cases definitely show the depravity that humans can sink to. I read that it was life WITH the possibility for parole after 20 years and also Wikipedia says, “Leung Shing-cho was arrested and sentenced to jail ONCE AGAIN for 12 months in August 2022 for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.[12]” meaning he did get parole. I’m not sure if all of them got parole but they probably did.
This story was hella morbid and it's also one of the most horrying Asian crimes I read. It also shows that money is the root of all evil (not saying that money is bad; we need it but greed for it can ruin someone's life like Fan Man Yee)
Oh man. I have some survivors guilt when I hear about fatal cases of some of the torture I had to go through. I hope one day people who inflict this kind of torture, and who sell/buy humans are a thing of the past and stay there. I hope life in prison has been hell for them 🤷

One of the Hello Kitty murders Leung Shing-cho (梁勝祖) had served imprisonment but released in 2014. Now he is prosecuted for committing indecent assault of 10-year-old girl in Tin Shui Wai in December 2021. Now, he is found guilty and sentenced to one year imprisonment. (case number # WKCC 977/2022).
What the hell, no charges against the pimp for statutory rape having sexual relations with a minor??? Not a single mention of it or charges in the case…
Haha! The terrible thing though is that, considering how terribly police/the legal system have handled so many true crime cases, that it could very well have gone that way...
I also feel sorry for the kid, although another commenter mentioned that thankfully they've survived and have since grown up. Hopefully they're leading a good life despite this atrocity :(

For those who don’t know, there was this girl named fan man-yee. Soon after her parents had abandoned fan man-yee she was sent to a orphanage. Growing up there nobody wanted to adopt or take care of her. The orphanage had a age limit so at the year of 15 she was kicked out and sent to live on the streets. Obviously she didn’t want to stay on the streets so she started working as a sex worker. Eventually she had met this man who got her into drugs and drinking like he did. Ignoring all of this they still got married and all they did was fight and it always got worse. One day she met this other person. He was a drug dealer and a fucked up dude.. well she started talking with him and she was working for him. Unfortunately he was part of a Hong Kong mafia. A leader of a trio. Well she stole equivalent to 4000 dollars USA dollars, and he was not ok with that. So he made her work as his sex worker/slave-ish to make another 10,000 in interest. Obviously she couldn’t afford to do that if she had to steal 4,000. He was upset on how long it had been taking her to pay him back. Therefore he and his “gang” kidnapped her and took her to there apartment. Weirdly enough there apartment had a hello kitty room covered in all hello kitty’s merch. They took out there frustration out on her. They would piss on her, beat her with metal rods and other brutal tactics. After that they would put spices and salt ect on/in her wounds. To make sure she wouldn’t be able to leave they would burn her skin with blisters and cuts. Melt plastic on her legs and keep burning her. They were also rarely feeding her and eventually stopped so the only resource she had was whatever they tortured her with. In this time she was also pregnant but that didn’t make any difference. There was also this 14 minor/girl that was also involved in this case. She claims to be the man’s girlfriend but probably would of been his other victim before fan man-yee. Yet she was so young but just as cold as the men. Giggling and laughing while torturing fan. What’s fucked about it as they could be in the other room playing video games while she was suffering on the bathroom floor. Eventually she had sadly passed away from all of this cruelty. They had decided to cut her dead remains up in a bathtub to then boil her so the smell would go away and would melt. They had kept her head and her head was either put inside of or was sewn into a hello kitty plushie. They were caught and the 14 yr girl went against the three. She was released with foster care. The other three got sentenced to life in prison except this one guy that was apart of the other man’s gang. He was able to convince the judge to let him out of prison a couple of years later. He was recently caught January 2022 for breaking a girls chest while working at a restaurant. The area that fan man-yee’s death and where she was tortured is now rebuilt into some restaurant

It had probably to do with government regulations for orphanages and not neglect. Hopefully Hong Kong have a better safety net for orphans nowadays

Only hear cooked skull was found with some teeth, also according to the men she killed herself with ice overdose (meth) while they left her alone in a room she swallowed the ice they left behind, i read this in some chinese article and official court file. She atleast died of dignity if that is true. The doctor argued that it (white pus from her mouth) could be caused by beating but as body wasnt found it couldnt be proven they murdered her. They charged them with oife in prison with 25 year appeal. One got out in 2014 but now is in jail since january for assaulting a girl. Also chen is almost 64 and his appeal was denied in 2014, therefore he aint gettin out in his life

I feel extremely bad for her, and this is a horrifying thing that should never happen. I feel bad for the woman and am glad the sickos were caught, but this could have been so easily avoided. No matter what you do, never, EVER steal from a gang. This is what they do to people who do, and I hope this case spreads awareness about the horrible things that can happen when you mess with the wrong people
It's definitely a cautionary tale. Unfortunately that's how some of these gangs operate - they take advantage of people like Fan Man-Yee and put them in a position where they get desperate. This case feels so similar to junko Furuta from Japan her murders were also connected to their mafia Yakuza the only differences being junkos murders were tried as juveniles so go a lesser sentence and junko spent about 40 days of torture and and abuse both cases are just horrendous and cruel though

Glad to get to know more about this case. I can’t believe how sick these people are aswell, not even the punishment they got is enough. This will probally be ingrained in my mind, also the fact they didn’t even admit to wanting to kill her is even more sick. These are true monsters, i don’t know how they would even say they didn’t mean to kill her, while stuffing her skull into a plushy, Trully unbelievable.
This personally has to be one of the most messed up cases I've ever heard of, and that 44 days one with Junko Furuta. Rest in peace to her and Fan Man-Yee, this was really disturbing for me to watch. I hope the people that tortured these wonderful and beautiful women rot in hell.
You should cover the killing of Renee Hartevelt in Paris in 1981. This case reminds me a little of it. Her killer Issei Sagawa was released on a legal technicality involving international law and insanity.

Sometimes courts will push for the lighter verdict since it easier to get them convicted that way, hence the manslaughter instead of murder, plus with other crimes the sentencing would be the same as if they had them up for murder instead.

This and Junko Furuta case are one of if not the most horrifying and brutal cases out there. at least in this situation the perpetrators were jailed for life. With possibility of perole, which they don't deserve but like it's still life in prison and as far as I know they're still there. I don't know if I should even suggest Junko's case to you...because it's just as horrific and it's made so, so much worse by the perpetrators being teenagers and the victim being only 17 years old...but at the same time I think her story deserves to be told...

I read that it was life WITH the possibility for parole after 20 years and also Wikipedia says, “Leung Shing-cho was arrested and sentenced to jail ONCE AGAIN for 12 months in August 2022 for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.[12]” meaning he did get parole. I’m not sure if all of them got parole but they probably did.
This story was hella morbid and it's also one of the most horrying Asian crimes I read. It also shows that money is the root of all evil (not saying that money is bad; we need it but greed for it can ruin someone's life like Fan Man Yee)
Oh man. I have some survivors guilt when I hear about fatal cases of some of the torture I had to go through. I hope one day people who inflict this kind of torture, and who sell/buy humans are a thing of the past and stay there. I hope life in prison has been hell for them 🤷

One of the Hello Kitty murders Leung Shing-cho (梁勝祖) had served imprisonment but released in 2014. Now he is prosecuted for committing indecent assault of 10-year-old girl in Tin Shui Wai in December 2021. Now, he is found guilty and sentenced to one year imprisonment. (case number # WKCC 977/2022).

For those who don’t know, there was this girl named fan man-yee. Soon after her parents had abandoned fan man-yee she was sent to a orphanage. Growing up there nobody wanted to adopt or take care of her. The orphanage had a age limit so at the year of 15 she was kicked out and sent to live on the streets. Obviously she didn’t want to stay on the streets so she started working as a sex worker. Eventually she had met this man who got her into drugs and drinking like he did. Ignoring all of this they still got married and all they did was fight and it always got worse. One day she met this other person. He was a drug dealer and a fucked up dude.. well she started talking with him and she was working for him. Unfortunately he was part of a Hong Kong mafia. A leader of a trio. Well she stole equivalent to 4000 dollars USA dollars, and he was not ok with that. So he made her work as his sex worker/slave-ish to make another 10,000 in interest. Obviously she couldn’t afford to do that if she had to steal 4,000. He was upset on how long it had been taking her to pay him back. Therefore he and his “gang”
kidnapped her and took her to there apartment. Weirdly enough there apartment had a hello kitty room covered in all hello kitty’s merch. They took out there frustration out on her. They would piss on her, beat her with metal rods and other brutal tactics. After that they would put spices and salt ect on/in her wounds. To make sure she wouldn’t be able to leave they would burn her skin with blisters and cuts. Melt plastic on her legs and keep burning her. They were also rarely feeding her and eventually stopped so the only resource she had was whatever they tortured her with. In this time she was also pregnant but that didn’t make any difference. There was also this 14 minor/girl that was also involved in this case. She claims to be the man’s girlfriend but probably would of been his other victim before fan man-yee. Yet she was so young but just as cold as the men. Giggling and laughing while torturing fan. What’s fucked about it as they could be in the other room playing video games while she was suffering on the bathroom floor. Eventually she had sadly passed away from all of this cruelty. They had decided to cut her dead remains up in a bathtub to then boil her so the smell would go away and would melt. They had kept her head and her head was either put inside of or was sewn into a hello kitty plushie. They were caught and the 14 yr girl went against the three. She was released with foster care. The other three got sentenced to life in prison except this one guy that was apart of the other man’s gang. He was able to convince the judge to let him out of prison a couple of years later. He was recently caught January 2022 for breaking a girls chest while working at a restaurant. The area that fan man-yee’s death and where she was tortured is now rebuilt into some restaurant
