The easiest way to remember about Spain during WW1 is because of what we called the Spanish Flu. The name doesn't come because the epidemic originated in Spain but because the countries involved into WW1 didn't announce their own cases because they didn't want the enemy to know at what extent they were affected. But Spain was a neutral country during WW1 so this information was not "classified". So many people from that time were inducted to think that the situation was worse in Spain than anywhere else, and that's why the disease was eventually called Spanish Flu.

I didn't know Spanish people were considered stupid outside. Since I moved to the UK everybody has been telling me how good workers we are. Maybe we are not too good with languages (English specifically) and that can be seen as dumb but our educational level is pretty good. I studied a master's in a British university with people from all over the worlds and I could compare the level. Everybody wants Spanish nurses, for example. I think the biggest problem is that we don't even believe in ourselves. The self deprecation humour is quite common.

Hello, the Philippines was not a "colony" of Spain because Spanish didn’t have colonies, they had Viceroyalties, they’re two different forms of government. The Philippines was part of the Viceroyalty of New Spain that encompassed what is now Mexico and almost all the Caribbean countries, part of the USA, part of southern Canada and the Philippine, Mariana and Caroline Islands. Maybe that's why they use pesos the same as in Mexico. This is just so you know that there is an important difference and it’s incorrect to use “colonies” to refer to Spain 😊

The fact that its form of government was a Viceroyalty doesn't remove the fact that it was a Spanish colony. Especially if you take into account that the name "colony" comes from Cristobal Colombus (Colón in Spanish) and it only refers to a country or a territory being political and economically dependent to the main country. So, of course, it was a colony and its form of government is something that should not be taken into account to determine that. Thank you

About currencies, we should not try to think that each currency name is exclusively meant for one country. For instance, 'Dollar' is used for multiple countries like Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and the US. But to avoid confusion since they are actually different currencies, the country name is added before the word Dollar. Just like Pound, although most people only think of the UK, countries like Lebanon and Egypt also use the same word too, and they are named Lebanese Pound and Egyptian Pound. In the Middle East, quite some countries name their currencies Dinar too, but they are all different currencies. Technically speaking, Japanese Yen, Korean Won, and Chinese Yuan (RMB) also have their roots from the same Chinese character 元, just that it is pronounced differently in each language hence the different sounds.
