13:10 It's definitely done in Photoshop or a similar program, you can see he erased some of the natural-looking brush with a standard hard brush(eraser) to create harsh white space for the shiny effect.
This is my favorite of your videos so far. Ive seen a little work from this artist but im so glad to finally know the name. Im excited to hear about how he got started. keep it coming! Love your channel.
H.C.Brown Ohh I found you. I absolutely love your work H.C! You are very inspirational. I really liked the vid about overcoming mental health problems as an artist.
This is so informative and fun to watch I would now yet to recognise which animator made a particular scene And line you said, it is possible to suspect these are rotoscoped..while they are not!
Thank you so much for doing this! Bahi JD and Yutaka Nakamura inspire me more than anything else, and I’m glad you were able to talk about and deconstruct one of them.
it wasn't until 2 minutes in when i saw a specific animation that i know from an artist i follow, then i looked closer at the name BAHIJD and their icon popped into my head and i remembered who this was, and that they are the artist im following.
I started animating not even a year ago with a pivot animator because i cant draw yet i didnt take any classes because i feel its better to learn on your own and i have become pretty good for a slightly new animator
learning on your own is good. Much of what I learned has been self-taught. Although it is useful to look at other animators and see how they do it. Sometimes it can open up new ways of working or help you get past major inefficiencies
Nicely done. Bahi JD is an inspiring story and its great to see him branching out like with his storyboarding and direction for the Atom the Beginning OP.
I wanna learn how to animate like that but I don't know where to start. My anatomy and proportions are very off along with gesture. Do you have anything you'd recommend to help me improve my skills?
I would agree but don't wait to perfect your drawings because your drawings will never be perfect. Also just really connect with and explore what you enjoy - what kind of themes you find attractive - it will give you a clearer direction and then it is a much simpler task
Best Animator? He's definitely up there with the greats, but calling him the decade's best Animator is a stretch. Look up Yukata Nakamura. See if that would change your mind.
Jonathan Joestar the thing is japanese can be very protective with the important scenes. They only allow japanese people to do most animations, so having a western animator prominent in the japanese animation industry is a big deal.
silvester staloney this guy is just a kid compared to the legends of Disney. Look at Glen Keane work. Look at his fucking 60 draws per second animation "Duet"
Surprised? Europeans are the most creative and innovative people in history, however the hollywood lead ethos of how Europeans must be presented, is always deliberately either negative or incompetent. Anime is just a relatively new market because Japan doesn't export much and remains for the most part to itself; only courtesy of the internet is there more access than in the past.
... I mean, that's kind of a terrible comparison, Crow. Not only are they two completely separate styles, he's gotten no chance to prove that he could animate at 60 FPS. Keane had the benefit of a budget. And, frankly, I'm not seeing anything in Keane's work that I don't believe BahiJD couldn't do. It should be noted that I love Keane, and Williams, and all the western animators. But that's such an elitist statement.
Thank you for your motivation, I love this channel. As a freelance studying animator I would like to know, is there a difference between working with references & rotoscoping?
Thanks✨ Yes there is. Referencing something could mean making observational drawings of paused frames in a movement. Reference could also mean having a mirror and acting out the motion in front of a mirror. Referencing could mean running 3d simulations and diagraming them... Rotoscoping is tracing over footage frame by frame Rotoscoping is distinctly different from referencing.
Thanks you so much for highlighting those differences, I didn’t think you yourself would reply😅much love from Zimbabwe, Africa. I’m an aspiring animator hoping to become as great as you are
I like how you have to charge money just for what someone else can tell you for free, not helping the community by charging someone a breakdown on animations when they can learn it online for free by themselves.
if you don't need my help then what's the problem? Go away and do it. I'm not forcing anyone to buy my products or services. You have no idea how the world works do you? Why don't you walk into a department store and complain at them for not giving their product away for free? Why don't you go into a classroom and ask the teacher why they aren't teaching for free? Because like me they are adults who have rent to pay. You're just a little kid who's stumbled into the big boys world. You're not ready for this. Oh and while we're at it, lets take a peep at your channel and see what you're doing to help the community... Ah as i expected. Nothing of value here. Well thanks for your non-existent contribution I guess. All you're good for is complaining. I'm gonna stop wasting my breath on you. Don't come back to my channel again :D
Maria Yumasheva I am not sure, but I think he meant that some artists animate a few (or even all) layers traditionally (on paper) before digitally. So my guess that he animated a few frames traditionally before scanning it into digital
@@zionjefferson490 I don't know much about him, but it seems like it from this video (I didn't rewatch the whole thing tho and it's been 3 years) Howard was saying how it might've been another artist who animated the explosion because it looked like it was scanned and the rest of bahi jd's animation in the video is digital, but then again it could be that bahi jd just animated it traditionally, we can never know ig
