    Coloso is good, but they really gotta fix that video player. Like the courses are very informational and useful, but sometimes it takes like 5 minutes to load, or to get to a specific point in the video. It be nice if one of the sponsors could tell coloso about this.

    it's definitely cool that you can learn from different animators depending on the styles you want to do, or the teaching style you like

    Loved her course, specifically Lesson 3 which is something you didn't mention and I won't ruin. But it's more or less about how to not burn out and I think it's extremely useful.
    That said, I agree that there are too many lessons where the visuals are unrelated to the topic. There is also one lesson towards the end where the video flickers a LOT (timelapse) and to me it started REALLY hurting my vision (I was watching on 2x because of video length mentioned) and it was extremely uncomfortable - borderline hazardous in my opinion and probably should have been edited out.
    My personal feeling about Coloso is that it seems like some of their stuff is top notch and the vast majority is good info, but I've been through a few of their courses now and I'm finding their recent work to be very "watch me do this while I talk" and in some cases I've found edits/mistakes left in (in a clearly unintentional way) that really should not be in a polished premium product. This did not happen in Havtza's that I can recall, but it has happened in a few others and strikes me as not cool given the high price point of their courses.
    Also the video player and the lack of being able to take a simple screenshot during an art course that I paid close to $200 for is obnoxious. They need to just accept that piracy will happen - doing this DRM stuff to paying customers and making their premium priced product harder to use is not the answer. If they want to do that, they should offer a collection of references/important screencaps from each video for download in their resources. In some courses they have things like this, but I don't recall Havtza's having anything in resources and that was a bummer.

      I can take screenshots legally though. Just by using print screen

    • @thisisshadow64
      @thisisshadow64 Рік тому +6

      @@appolity In my experience their DRM does not allow that and you get a black screen. This occurs with print screen and Shift+Win+S.

    • @thisisshadow64
      @thisisshadow64 9 місяців тому

      @@TheLuconic Coloso has their strange naming conventions so I'll just say it's what she says in "Pre-production Process Overview." Technically speaking I think it's Part 3, Section 2, Lessons 1, 2, and 3, but yeah just look for the lessons under that header. Haha. And I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but it's been a while since I watched it. I'm pretty sure I loved that whole part though.

    Edit: Now that I have watched the video I really love when you mention that one of the important things about personal projects is to get it done. They are personal because we are making it for ourselves not anyone else. I feel like I lost the meaning towards my animated short film because I started sharing it online to the point it felt like it lost that personal side to it. I do enjoy sharing my progress but definitely gave me something to think about.

    i bought it, and the course seems really cool, but just fyi for pc animators there's a lot of difficulties. just for my laptop at least the video player won't work at all, i had to download the app on my phone to watch the lectures (though i haven't emailed support about any of this yet so i can't discount it entirely) and i had to jump through a million hoops with bluestacks to get flipaclip just to realize that it's incompatible with my wacom drawing tablet. i'm gonna follow it with the programs that i already had (blender and clip studio) and like i'll see how it goes but again, just be aware that all this might happen if you can't use an ipad or something

    You probably won’t see this but it’s worth a shot. With the addition of procreate dreams, HAVTZA is making a new course with both procreate and procreate dreams instead of FlipaClip. Will you be reviewing that one as well? I am thinking about paying for A class from them as a beginner animator- just kinda curious how much people will like the second course.

    I love the courses, but the web player on Coloso is the worst I've ever seen. It constantly crashes and forces me to reload the page and I don't like that I can't take screencaps. I'm someone who loves to screencap specific parts for my own studies and remember important points of the lecture. The courses are great, but gosh do they make it a bit inconvenient - which isn't fun for the amount of money you spend on a course.

    We need to stop calling them Animation 'Principles', that's a misnomer. They're 'Tools', there's a difference. You only use the tools that are appropriate for a particular purpose, while Rules (Principles) make it sound like you should use them all indiscriminately. E.G. : You find sometimes it is completely unnecessary to make an Anticipation drawing... You don't always want 'Squash and Stretch', in fact the opposite...make sense? Because right now we call them Rules and then say stuff like, 'You also need to know when to break them'. That's too touchy-feely advice to give to learners. I dont care what the Nine Old Men called them, what we term as The Almighty Principles of Animation are not Principles, they're Tools.

    Hi Toniko I have a rather important question, I have an idea for an animation series that I want to make but I'm starting to doubt if it'll reach the right audience. It's mostly about mythology, different cultures/ethnicities, and the importance of seeing past physical appearances. I think it'll do good but I don't want to hype myself up for something that may fail. What should i do?
    P.S: I'm open to anyone giving tips

      That sounds awesome! I would HIGHLY recommend planning it all out with free assets & tools to start, kind of like how live action movies have storyboarders plan out camera angles/shot composition/etc before actually whipping out camera rigs.
      There are lots of free tools out there!-- while lots of people hate ChatGPT 3.5 for webscraping creative works (including me >:[ ), it's an incredibly effective way to find out what *free & open source tools* you can use to make your **own personal project**.
      Some phrases I would ask it:
      "I want to create a solo-project animated series about mythology across different cultures/ethnicities with a focus on seeing past assumed differences. What sort of free & open source tools can I use to plan out and create a rough draft for this project?"
      "My interests are in X Y and Z, can you create a rough outline of the series structure to create a compelling narrative/effective educational series/etc?"
      "Given the tools and resources available to me, how long should I make each episode in the series? About how much time would it take?"
      "What paid tools/resources should I strongly consider using, if any?"
      "Do you have any other suggestions/ideas for this project or any skills I should learn?"
      And many more! My rule of thumb is this: Any question you have for a UA-camr can be put into ChatGPT for an instant and probably more comprehensive answer-- which you can keep asking indefinitely without ever worrying about a real life person's response time!

      I would say, start from sketching. Or any method you use for notes, it can be a physical or digital notepad too for example. As long as you get your ideas down, you can start planning them, so you can actually make them. If it's animated, you can start from thumbnails sketches and storyboards. Try googling for "how to storyboard" or how to plan your story and get started there. Going forward from that, I suggest you look at what a short film production process can look like and study from there. Hope this helps a bit!🎬

      Dude you had me at mythology and different cultures XD I'll definitely be into that, and I know I'm not the only one, there's a definite interest. And even if it doesn't reach the audience you aim for it can still reach an audience worth working on it. Take my little pony. It's demographic is young girls, but it was such an influence that it became a large cultural icon in many teens and adults of all walks of life

    I like Colosus but man, the subtitles. Some english audio courses don't have subtitles, which is bad for non-native speakers if the presenter has heavy accent, and disrespectiful to hearing impaired people. Of the courses I bought, with subtitles, they are "subtitles of" "about two or three" "words at once" "on the screen making" "it really" "hard to keep" "up with the" "class.". I figure it's because they're meant to be read on mobile screens....
    I recommend coloso, but not if you're not really comfortable with english (subtitles or audio) as they work in a way that makes it easier for language barriers impacting class experience
