  • In this video, I talked about a question that plagues every dental student and working dentist in India.
    Is BDS worth it?
    Should I do MDS or not?
    What is the salary after BDS in India?
    I have tackled such questions.
    I actively look at the comment section, so feel free to ask any doubts.

    The fact is that no one wants to get treated by a fresher bds. You will have to shadow someone for 2-3 years or will have to do several courses to become a good clinician. Even after that some patients might ask are u a bds or an mds? The thing is the bds course which is being taught in our colleges never makes us ready to deal with patients in the outside world.

    • @drshwetachaudhary._
      @drshwetachaudhary._  Рік тому +4

      Ask yourself? Would you yourself get treated by a fresher?
      Regarding the shadow part, it is completely upto you. Minimum 6 months shadowing is critical to learn how to diagnose and choose the right treatment planning. After that you have the option to work in charitable clinics or run clinics independently also.
      I am working under a really really famous dentist who is an MDS that too from PGI and i have never seen a single new patient ask what is his qualification, they just want to know his experience. Every basic skill of general dentistry is taught in BDS atleast in the clinics. The first few years after BDS are difficult sure and take alot of patience and investment but that does not mean that doing MDS is going to guarantee you sure shot success and a job. You will only be a specialist and unless and until you are appointed as a senior lecturer you will have to open your own practice only. This is such a broad topic which cannot be covered in a single comment!
      Besides let’s assume even if 1 out of 10 patients ask you what is your qualification ( which is really rare) and doesn’t gets treated because of your degree then let him go! There are 9 others who don’t cars about your degree but you must be proficient in what you do. Your work should speak for itself!

      @@drshwetachaudhary._ well said. What i have observed in my 5 years of practice is that dentist themselves have lowered the bar everywhere. Quackery is prevalent in our field which instils a fear in the patient that "is my doctor competent"?
      Anyways have qualified neet this year would be looking for a seat in ortho.

      Yes it’s true i have meagre few months of experience after BDS but i have also seen such bad work of not only BDS but MDS graduates as well.
      There should be another exam like NEXT in MBBS to make sure such quackery doesn’t exists. Unfortunately that won’t happen anytime soon!

      I didn’t liked dentistry when i joined, but now after graduating, no matter what people say, even if 9 out of 10 people will tell negative stuff, this is the most satisfying field in terms of work i have ever experienced and i love dentistry from the bottom of my heart now. There are problems because of the govt not generating enough jobs but opening private colleges left right and centre but regardless the situation of dentistry in India is going up up and up only since the time i joined it. Dentistry is the highest earning profession in foreign countries because there the number of colleges are less but even in India situation is changing very rapidly. Don’t worry!

      Unfortunately this situation is true for a fresh graduate but if you develop skills and grind for atleast 2 years without expecting monetary benefits just in the beginning of your career, you will definately reap its benefits later.

    If anyone doing his/her BDS then MDS in Oral Surgery then doing fellowship in Maxillofacial surgery like Oncology or other like hair transplant or Facial plastic surgery then what will be the scope for him/her?
    And also him/her avg salary?

    • @drshwetachaudhary._
      @drshwetachaudhary._  Рік тому +2

      Sky is the limit!!!
      After oral surgery most people choose one particular branch to specialise in, ex; TMJ disorders or hair transplants etc

      @@sankhade Opportunities where? In terms of jobs? See as i said you might or might not get a job even after fellowship or MDS.. you might get a really good job if you have specialised in something very very few people specialise ( after MDS ) and in your own practice you will have less competition and more consultantations
      But my suggestion would be before asking about the scope and opportunities that too after fellowships after MDS please focus on what you are doing right now ( if you are a dental student). Scope is humungus after dentistry if you are good at what you do.

    How should we score in neet to get bds under obc reservation for a government seat

    • @drshwetachaudhary._
      @drshwetachaudhary._  Рік тому

      First of all, if you are studying only to get a seat under OBC category, you aren’t going to get one. If and only if you give your best shot in NEET without thinking ki category se ho jaye bas utne marks aa jaye, then and only then you stand a chance in getting admission into a good college be it BDS/ MBBS.

    • @drshwetachaudhary._
      @drshwetachaudhary._  Рік тому +1

      And any good govt college demands atleast 550 marks in general category. You can take a margin of 50 marks for OBC. Maybe in some states you can get in 450.
