8:20 I had to double check this to be sure, but Ampharos can't learn Dragon Pulse in HG/SS, it doesn't get to until gen 6 when it got it's dragon mega. Power Gem is a good move for additional flying and ice coverage though.
That team was eerily similar to my first Heart Gold team which I did in memory of my Pokemon Gold team. Typhlosion, Crobat, Quagsire, Ampharous, Heracross, and Espeon since the first time I play a region I like to try and only use Pokemon introduced in that games region.
Perfect timing releasing this content for me man, and a great team it is, and is mostly readily available well early into the game! I'm playing through my Johto Journey, with it being the first time ever I get to use my favourite starter trio together! I'm training up my favourites and using them in some key battles (namedly Mareep, Wooper, Togepi, Heracross, Noctowl, Red Gyarados, and Extreme Speed Dratini), but my Elite 4 team will be: Cyndaquil, Chikorita, Totodile, Scyther, Espeon, Mamoswine. By the time we get to Mt. Silver, the team will end up looking more like: Typhlosion, Bayleef, Feraligatr, Scizor, Espeon, Mamoswine.
There is an easier way to get a heartscale in johto - when you get surf, go to the fisherman route right before union cave and surf east. when you head into one of the rocks there and press A you will find it as an hidden item
My absolute favorite team to bring though HGSS is Typhlosion, Crobat, Bellossom, Umbreon, Lanturn, and Ursaring I love this team so much, it’s also my fav team for the gen 2 games
On my current playthrough of SoulSilver I have: - Feraligatr - Umbreon - Crobat - Ampharos - Larvitar - Chinchou Larvitar and Chinchou are late editions to the team, replacing Red Gyarados and Haunter (because I still cannot find my other DS to trade and get the Gengar). Feraligatr is my physical powerhouse with an adamant nature. Chinchou has volt absorb, so Lantern may come in useful against Lance’s Dragonites should they try to use thunder against it. Plus I don’t think I’ve used Lantern since playing the original Pokemon Silver game way back in the day.
Bro, I am fully convinced that HG/SS are the best remakes ever. I absolutely love the johto region and the Pokemon. Yeah, ORAS was cool but there are a lot of things about HG/SS that were way better, imo. Plus, you get hit with that nostalgia when you use the "GB sounds." I still whip out my 3DS and play SoulSilver when I have the chance. 14 years later and I still can't get enough of that masterpiece.
If Ampharos wasn’t on the list I was gonna riot (thunder wave, signal beam, power gem and discharge/thunderbolt >>>) Heracross and Mamoswine are goats too
I absolutely love this team idea. I'm almost at the 8th gym now. I will say, I found this video hard to follow. Especially what moves to use and how to obtain them. Other than that I really like the concept. Nice work! :)
I like this team (Mamoswine is my favorite ice type), though Quagsire sadly can’t learn Stealth Rock in Gen 4 for some reason. However, you could teach it Strength and give Mamoswine Stealth Rock if you want to use hazards.
I was waiting for this video! Thank you mystic and keep up the great work! Edit: in case you ever do this for future games, i suggest that you put a good moveset for the pokemon too
Teams like this are ones I always hope to see! You’ve done it with later generations, but I was hoping you’d come back to the older ones. And now you have. Thank you! 😊
This certainly inspired me to dig out my DS to reset my soulsilver. I never once thought to use Mamoswine but I sure will this time even if it takes some time to get 2 heart scales
I only play Pokemon with the region pokemon. So i would love to see you do that with the other games. My favorite Jotho only teams is Tyranitar, Heracross, Ampharos,Lanturn,Bellosom and Typlosion.
I bought HeartGold recently and I'm waiting for it to arrive so I'm keeping this video in mind see if I want to give this team a try with my First Playthrough of Pokemon HeartGold
People keep claiming that there are no trainers within the Victory Rd., Cave, but people forget that there are trainers along the way to victory Road. In red blue and yellow, there are no trainers on the path, and only a couple trainers within victory Road, so they merely moved the location where you encounter trainers. I’m not saying they should’ve had trainers, I’m just saying that they are relocated.
I’m replaying SS right now. I reset my file and after 78 soft resets, I got a shiny cyndaquill to start with. I was thinking to myself afterwards ”where’s umbreons video for HG/SS” love your videos man
I've done 100+ soft reset didn't get shiny cyndaquil.. what the best tam in hg? But your lucky only 78 soft reset after replaying..but I'm using drastic emu ..
I love that half tour team are my always go tos. Specially my 2 all time favorites in Heracross and Crobat! Cyndaquil or totaldile was always my starters
I will say that Typhlosion is better for GSC but for HGSS I might say that Feraligatr might be a touch better because of Ice Fang and how that can really clutch Clair and Lance
My preferred team for Jotoh was exactly that team of six except I replace Mamoswine for Grandbull cuz I usually don't do type overlaps just to keep the team more diverse and handle more type match ups.
That's the biggest issue I've had with Gold, Silver, HeartGold and SoulSilver is the over reliance on Gen 1 Pokemon. A lot of Gen 2 Mons are either too weak, too rare, or too inconvenient to get before the League. Don't even get me started on grinding to get them to the proper levels. If there is a Gen 2 remake for the Switch, it better fix that so we can use any Gen 2 Pokemon during the main game
As a fan who started in gen 2 with Pokémon Silver Version, Silver has always been my favorite rival. I don't care what anyone thinks. He's the rival that pushed me to become the best I could be!
my fav team of six would be - Miganium(such a gentle giant and i love that) Quagsire (my favorite Pokemon) Crobat (to help against Bugsy and Morty) Ampharos (just a really strong electric type) heracross (strong Pokemon that will pulverize Witney) Jynx (a Pokemon I've never used that will help against Lance, and Clair, also with the really good psychic typing).
Typhlosion - best starter in the game, best fire type Pokemon ingame Ampharos - against the flying types, special attacker, early to catch Fearow/Crobat - both are fairly easy to catch, Fearow has the highest attack power as a flying type/Crobat is more of a technical member Heracross - worth it, bruh, trust me Espeon - effort's worth it, best special attacker in game Lapras - early to catch, strong and dependable against dragon and ground types (HM Slave) Sentret/Turret
Holy shit, never did I think there would be a team that I would love more. I’ve always wanted to use some of these Pokemon like Heracross and Mamoswine and now I can
Johto always felt like a part of kanto because of how many good kanto mons you can obtain rendering most johto mons useless even during important trainer battles. This team would definitely be fun to use and add variety.
Only one I’d swap is Gyarados for Quagsire as Dragon Dance makes it easy to sweep dragons with. Does make you quite weak to rock tho, as you mentioned.
My 6 Pokemon for a Johto play through would be 1, Typhlosion 2, Noctowl or Crobat 3, Heracross 4, Pikachu or Ampharos if I choose only Johto Pokemon 5, Quagsire 6, Espeon Typhlosion for Jasmine and Pryce Noctowl or Crobat for Bugsy and Morty Pikachu or Ampharos for Falkner and Lance Heracross for Whitney and Karen Espeon for Koga and I think combo with Pikachu and Quagsire for Lance.
Have to agree to disagree that Feraligatr is really the best starter for HG/SS based on just having a better move pool to work with(i.e. Crunch, Ice Fang, Dragon Claw, EQ) + you can get Magmar which is just as solid of a fire type with good Spd & Sp Atk in its own right
Would love to see some new "Best Team for" Videos, but only with Pokemon which were introduced in their respective regions. Great Content! Also i think instead of Mamoswine, you could also use Espeon.
Love the video! Unless I’m wrong you can’t get Wooper before the first badge UNLESS you get the Primo egg. The trainer at the route below Goldenrod stops you from going by if my memory is correct
Mystic, hi! About three years ago you made a video describing the worst team for Ruby and Sapphire and in the same video you mentioned that the worst team for the Emerald version has some differences and promised to describe the worst team for Emerald in the near future. It's been three years, and still no video about the worst team in Pokemon Emerald. Or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. I'm not ruling out that option either. I'm writing to remind you of the plans you once had. Thanks for your creativity!
I'm just wondering what happened to all the Checkpoints that Kanto had? Cause when you enter the building, the North Door leads to the 8 Badge Checkpoints. Like you went through a long phase before you got to the Cave. But when you enter the same building leading to VR in the Johto games the checkpoint is gone & the Cave is automatically accessible...like why did they extend the Cave?
Nice. I always prefer playing Pokémon games just using Pokémon introduced in that region. My preferred johto team is feraligator, crobat, scizor, ampharos, houndoom, and tyranitar.
I would have swapped mamoswine with steelix you can find it in the Cliffside cave on the way to the safari zone and you can teach it ice fang with the move relearner.
I'd swap out 2 that you took. Swap wooper for chinchou and catch a larvitar. Keeping everything else the same. Final team is typloshion, tyranitar, heracross, mamoswine, crobat, and lanturn. Too bad typhlosion doesn't get the ghost dual type. Otherwise the team would be full of coverages and incredible power
Well if you can pick Mamoswine then I can pick Togekiss. Typhlosion, Quagsire, Ampharos, Togekiss, Scizor, and Umbreon. With the exception of Togekiss, this these Pokemon have been my favorites from Johto since I first played Silver. And before you ask, I trade Scizor back with a shiny stone so I can get Togekiss before the post game.
Currently doing a full pokemon playthrough, exclusive using mons from their home regions, and no duplicates. HGSS is rough, best I could come up with is Feraligatr, Ampharos, Sunflora💀 (i like to have one mon for each of the three main elements), Xatu, Magcargo and Scizor. Wish me luck against Red
i think Noctowl would be better, especially one with insomnia. Then you could use it incredibly well against Morty's Gengar, and Red's Venusaur which likes to use sleep powder. Plus, Noctowl is, imo, an unofficial psychic/flying type.
Hey mystic umbreon! I wanted to say thanks for getting me back into Pokémon. I’ve been replaying ORAS and needed your help. If you don’t mind could you give me a move list for Rayquaza and Balanced Dexoys?. Thanks for your time, hope things are going great!
Great team, but 5 mons by gym 2… sharing out the game’s exp 5-ways so early means a lot more grafting in grass to keep pace with levels. I’d rather a more staggered acquisition of the team for an easier run. Again though, solid team on paper
If they could just remake soul silver but true 3d style like Pokémon arceus and with Pokémon from all generations and clothing options and all the great various additions from later generations and just go on that 16 badge and excursions. ACTUALLY if they made a game where you can go to all the different regions that would be prime where you can get 8 badges in each region that’s would be sooooo epiccccc it would be huge
8:20 I had to double check this to be sure, but Ampharos can't learn Dragon Pulse in HG/SS, it doesn't get to until gen 6 when it got it's dragon mega.
Power Gem is a good move for additional flying and ice coverage though.
I heard Heartgold and Soulsilver and came running
We all
As we all should
Hell yeah me too
Same,bro
I miss those games
Typhlosion, Crobat, Ampharos, Quagsire, Heracross and Espeon.
What a SQUAD. This is my go to for this region
How do you plan on getting past the dragon gym and lance?
@@jonvance3527he def runs an ice move on quagsire
@@davidpyfer3164 what about rock climb then
Thank you for saving me time from the video and just telling us who the team is.
@jonvance3527 Lance is actually pretty easy to deal with. Most of his mons have an X4 weakness that I would have coverage for.
That team was eerily similar to my first Heart Gold team which I did in memory of my Pokemon Gold team. Typhlosion, Crobat, Quagsire, Ampharous, Heracross, and Espeon since the first time I play a region I like to try and only use Pokemon introduced in that games region.

I have a massive soft spot for Jumpluff, I always grab a Hoppip.
Also one of the better shinies imo
There is an easier way to get a heartscale in johto - when you get surf, go to the fisherman route right before union cave and surf east. when you head into one of the rocks there and press A you will find it as an hidden item
Replacing Mamoswine with Espeon to keep the strict "Gen 2 only" rule in play, but I'm running this team in my next playthough.
You can get Tyranitar in HGSS pre-Kanto
Typholsion, Crobat, Ampharos, Azumarill, Forretress and Tyranitar.
My absolute favorite team to bring though HGSS is Typhlosion, Crobat, Bellossom, Umbreon, Lanturn, and Ursaring

On my current playthrough of SoulSilver I have:

Larvitar and Chinchou are late editions to the team, replacing Red Gyarados and Haunter (because I still cannot find my other DS to trade and get the Gengar).

There we go!!! I was looking for this! Just started a new SoulSilver run, so this was perfect timing!
soulsilver is the fkn goat
Typholsion, lanturn, heracross, skarmory, tyranitar, and slowking
I absolutely love this team idea. I'm almost at the 8th gym now.
I will say, I found this video hard to follow. Especially what moves to use and how to obtain them. Other than that I really like the concept. Nice work! :)
I don't know how to choose the moves, I just choose the highest damage
I like this team (Mamoswine is my favorite ice type), though Quagsire sadly can’t learn Stealth Rock in Gen 4 for some reason. However, you could teach it Strength and give Mamoswine Stealth Rock if you want to use hazards.
I was waiting for this video! Thank you mystic and keep up the great work!
Edit: in case you ever do this for future games, i suggest that you put a good moveset for the pokemon too
he normally includes movesets for all the team members
He used to but he stopped doing it. Pretty sure he said why but I can't remember and can't be bothered to look for it
Teams like this are ones I always hope to see! You’ve done it with later generations, but I was hoping you’d come back to the older ones. And now you have. Thank you! 😊

I only play Pokemon with the region pokemon. So i would love to see you do that with the other games. My favorite Jotho only teams is Tyranitar, Heracross, Ampharos,Lanturn,Bellosom and Typlosion.
Me too. I think it adds slight more difficulty, and makes its easier to try out the newer and more native pokemon.
Mine was typlosion, crobat, ampharos, quagsire, scizor, Ttar
Meganium, Noctowl/Crobat/Xatu, Umbreon, Heracross, Quagsire, and Ampharos.

3:53 But Solar Beam is a two-turn move. Unless someone can get Sunny Day on Typhlosion, it's gonna be next to useless....
MysticUmbreon thinking Morty's gengar has dream eater in HG/SS is the most infuriating thing ever
I just started a new game on SS this week. We’re giving Beedrill a try this time around

Downside is that Feraligatr doesn't get reliable physical STAB until Waterfall because Aqua Tail is shaky
The way you narrate this video about defeating gym leaders is hilarious 😆
If you have Neiti/Natu with Synchro/Synchronize with any neutral Nature, you are able to even out the stats when getting wild Pokémon 1/2 of the time.
My team was Feraligatr, Crobat, Ampharos, Heracross, Steelix and Tyranitar.
No full movesets anymore Mystic?
I picked up Soul Silver with the intent to use Gliscor. Didn't realize until before the Dragon Gym. Decided to use Mamoswine. INSTANTLY FELL IN LOVE.

Typhlosion - best starter in the game, best fire type Pokemon ingame
Ampharos - against the flying types, special attacker, early to catch
Fearow/Crobat - both are fairly easy to catch, Fearow has the highest attack power as a flying type/Crobat is more of a technical member
Heracross - worth it, bruh, trust me

Espeon can help on the team
Yeah but it doesn't have the Ice-typing that could help with Claire's gym. While Quagsire is a good option, it's just too slow.
I'm Umbreon fan but when I tested Espeon left me speechless

Wow, can’t believe I got 5/6 correct. Only one I was off on was Mamoswine. And don’t fret on the ending, I’m a fellow Umbreon Lover too.
