Just adopted a Dachshund Chihuahua mix about 6 months ago. I could not have ended up with a better companion. His name is Buddy and he definitely is one.
We adopted an 11yo Dachshund. He belonged to a friend who divorced and couldn’t take him with her. Within about a week, he was my shadow. He loves our kids and my wife, but he sleeps with me, alongside my back. He is beside me 24/7 and I’m happy we have him and can give him a lot of love and luxury as a senior citizen. He’s super intelligent as well. I’m really going to miss my boy Zephyr when that time comes because he’s truly my best friend.
Had a mini dachshund for 17 years, stole my heart and it broke my heart when we had to have him put down. He was all 16 traits but worth all those years. The good always outweighed the bad. Miss him dearly.
@@jmarcocaceres Yeah, they're prone to back trouble when they get older, and shouldn't jump up or down off the sofa, for example. They should be lifted. (Jan Griffiths).
I always had dogs in my life but my 10 months old dachshund is more like my child than a pet,, he is the most engaging with the most personality and the most cuddle loving kissy giving little mischievous frog and squirrel hunting sweetie pie,, running down the dirt road like a bunny rabbit. I only had him since last May and I don’t know how I did this life without him in it, nothing brings these dachshunds down, everything is a exiting adventure to him and you can see him thinking he doesn’t give up until he did it!! And then he’s so proud and happy
I've hady 13 year old mini dachshund since she was 5 weeks old. She and I are extremely bonded. She's just beginning to slow down and I know she experiences pain. I will be devastated when that time comes, she's been my best friend, my comforter, my companion for a long time now. I got her at 50 when menopause had me feeling so down. She is like my child. And I dearly love her.
Interesting about the negative aspects... I had one for 15 years from childhood to adulthood. And aside from some separation anxiety ( our neighbours said she would howl occasionally ) we never experienced any of the negatives. From rough and tumble games as kids to sitting upright sedately leaning back on the rear car seat, one paw on the window ledge, sniffing the world go by. She had so much personality. I buried her when aged 21. Watching this video, I still miss that dog 40 years later. Time I got another one.
What has most impressed me with this breed is their ability to hunt without training. Hunting rabbits and squirrels is effortless - if you present them with prey, their natural drive and energy has them after any prey they can adapt to. My Dachshund has become very clever in catching lizards around our SW Florida home. He has taught himself how to flush prey from plants, bushes and rat traps by nosing and kicking each items to flush out the reptiles and going after them quickly when he sees them bolt from their hiding spots. It's great fun to watch while he is actively engaged in full prey drive mode with his tail quickly wagging. Dachshunds are a very active and entertaining breed. And If you care for them, train them and protect their spinal health, you can enjoy them for many years.
I had a similar dog when I was a kid. His dad was a doxie, and his mom a Basset Hound. His prey drive and hunting ability was natural, and if he was on the trail of something, you couldn't distract him at all. (Jan Griffiths).
In our UK Kennel Club it states they are "courageous to the point of rashness." Love it! I`ve had Smooth Dachshunds since the mid 1970`s Eight at one time but just two now. A mini and a Standard. Never found any cons! All of mine have walked for miles and my 12 year old even now goes out for about 3/4 of an hour. As to "prey drive?" My miniature is more of a hunter than my Standard boy. He`s never bothered with squirrels or cats! Too many people have the breed and see them as cute or sweet. They aren`t handbag dogs!
I am on my second dashound. My first, Moliepie, lived to be 17. She was a sweetheart. My current is a longhair redhead, Jezebel, who is such a ❤️bug and cuddles galore.
I had a mini doxie for 15 years! She took a piece of my heart when she passed. I was the only one in the house she wouldn't let strangers near ❤🐾 I love you my fur baby, wait for mommy in Rainbow Bridge!
I have owned dachshunds for the past 30 years! They are the best! Over the years I have had 2 that had back issues. Other than that. They are the best, smart, funny and loyal dogs I have ever had!❤️
My Waddles was the best Dauchshund ever. He was 17 years old and we had a tight bond. I miss him so much. Waddles was not a yappy dog and loved to cuddle.
I'm sorry to hear about Waddles. Our pets are our pride and joy, and it is never easy when they leave us. He is with you in spirit. Thanks for sharing!
My Fritz always slept under the sheets by my feet, He used to help himself to my popcorn, right out of my bowl! If he saw me get towels and his shampoo, he knew it was bathtime and he would hide! I miss him so much! My doxie ( I must admit ), trained me not the other way around, He was throughly spoiled!
My aunt had a red doxie named Fritz. I was just a kid, and so was her daughter. We'd play with him for hours. He was a great dog. He got back trouble when he was about 14, and my aunt had him put to sleep. (Jan Griffiths).
We just got a long haired mini Dachshund 9 weeks old. We named him Fritz too, he'll be spoiled rotten like the other 2 Mini Dachshunds we've had. Yep a Doxie will steal your 🍿 , blankets, shoes or about ANYTHING. 🤣😂 You just gotta love a Dachshund.🌭🌭🌭
Had a wonderful dachsie, Honey, long haired golden girl. Became my husbands bff when he had major eye surgery, She never left his side during the six week recouperation, we both cried when she had to be put down say 18 years. She h had major back surgery at 6 years old at MSU, but survived and walked and jumped everywhere after my daughter did PT with her twice a day. Hope she's in heaven with Nonna, now! 🙏💕
Have a dachshund crossed with jack russell. He has all the charm and charisma of both but especially of dachshunds, and the more robust physiognomy of the jackie. He is the light of my life.
One of my doxies lived to be 19. Annie, is now 9, and doing well. During one brutal winter, we had to let her do her stuff indoors, and now have been having an awful time trying to get her trained again. sigh I love her so much.
@@patriciacarson1463 I also have a chiweenie. She's smart but stubborn and strong willed. But I love her anyway. She looks mostly like her doxie mom but with stand up ears like her dad. She weighs around 18 pounds. Mom was a standard size doxie, dad was a tiny Chihuahua. (Jan Griffiths).
@Patricia Carson I have a chaweenie too. She is mostly doxie with crinkled ears. They are short and don't hang like curtains on the side of their head. She's very loyal to hubby and I. Love her to pieces. She's 13 now, and her face is white. Again, love her to pieces.
They are nearly impossible to hold back with just your hands. They are so determined and will squirm and slip through if going after something. And they will.
I have a Chiweenie---a mix of Dachshund and Chihuahua. Her mom is a black and tan 25 pound standard size doxie, and her dad is a tan 5 pound Chihuahua. She is stubborn as heck. She'll do what she wants when she wants. She was easy to housebreak, however. She kind of gets along with my other dog, a min pin pug mix. They're both getting old now---Freddie (min pin pug) is 14, and Molly (chiweenie) is 13. Both are still active and playful. (Jan Griffiths).
With one big exception this is a well done video. All dogs who are loyal to their owners can have dificulty changing owners. Big but! When they do they are even more dedicated to their new human. If you have a patient and caring heart and can dedicate a bit of extra time adopting a "second hand" Doxie will be extra rewarding and successful.
My neighbors had two mini-Dachshunds, but one bullied the other mercilessly. They were both 9 years old, and the bullying got too much to bear, as the bully kept the smaller one from eating and she was growing quite thin. Well, that's where I came into the picture. They liked how I treated my animals, from dogs and cats to my horses, and asked if I would be willing to take on one more. I've had the little girl for about two months, now, and both her previous owners and I have noticed that YES, she is absolutely, without-a-doubt, hands down, devoted to me, and much more so than she was with them. She's become my little shadow, and we might as well be joined at the hip. (I'm crazy about her, too.) When her old parents dropped by to see me/us a few weeks ago, they were tickled to see her run towards them, got a quick pet, turned around, and raced back to me, and there she stayed. They're as happy as I am that this turned out so well.
The best traits of big dogs packed in an adorable, yet cool (they look like haired crocodiles) sausage shaped little fellow. They are extremely loyal, great hunters and exceptional watch dogs. It's hands down the best breed of small dogs. I always liked big dogs but my little Doxie has nothing to envy from them, he's stubborn at times, but his courage and overall awesomeness more than make up for it.
Amazing dogs. Had them as kids and they make the best movie buddy. Great at fetch. And my 2 loved baths. It was epic to have dogs this sweet to hang out with. And they loved to be pampered. Just be prepared to lose every blanket in the house to them. Pro tip: the cat beds that are little caves make awesome weenier dog beds. And they will love you if you put little ramps at the end of your couch for easy access to your blankets
My little dog is obviously a dachshund mix, but she has quite long legs. I wonder what she was mixed with. She is intensely loyal, and loves being under blankets. I love that dog; I even take her to work with me when i can. Gonna get my CDL, and she's gonna be my truck baby
The jumping fearlessly off furniture is a no no and keeping your foodie doxie in line is very important. Our first mini. Frankie, lived 17.5 yrs, ate to live. Our 2nd mini only lived 1 yr and 5 days and was taken out by an owl attack. Daisy was so smart, but lived to eat. We get our 3rd mini soon. All 3 were smooth coats.
I’ve had 3 doxies, 2 female and 1 male. The females were so easy to potty train, complete in 1 week whereas the male was impossible to. He knew what was expected of him but he would still very sneakily mark his territory. They also love learning tricks. And are oh so adorable!
Would you like another one? My son found a sweet female in the road. I tried to find her owner. No luck. I already have 3 big dogs so I need to find a home for this sweet housebroken girl maybe 1 year old.
Have had three mixed breed Doxies and one purebred. I currently own a Doxle ( Dashshund Beagle mix) Herschel, who will be 10 in August. He looks like a Piebald Doxie and acts pure Doxie.
uncondditional love! when i was sick or sad, she was my best friend ever!! Tufi, my little doxie, I miss you ... a lot !! doxie's best feature/secret weapon : those eyes which talk to us ... and ...OMG... they know how to use them! 🙂 For back injury - consider learn how to hold them properly , avoiding pulling them from front legs ... without suppporting their backs.
Mine is exactly like they describe here all of them. My oldest one was 18 years 1 month when she died of a heartattack. Mine if barking you better look and if they donot like you be warned if you sit dawn stay dawn. Very protective over medonot touch or walk to near me they see it as a treat and will act accourdingly.
Training a dacshund is easy with families who own multiple dogs as the dachshund will learn by example of his pack mates it will also help with exercise, food control, their playful lifestyle ,and it curbs some of their stubbornness.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Just curious, what type of treats and "food" do you give your little guy? Mine is getting super picky, where as my other one will eat just about anything at anytime. 😊
We have a 14 yr old dachshund/ terrier mix. Looks like the wire haired. Resued him at 2. Hes so charming, smart and howls when i leave my husband has taken videos. Hes my baby. ❤
Yes Cat and Dachshund can co-exist very well. My neighbours have a Dachshund and a large cat and he lies with his head on that cat and she doesn't seem to mind. It does depend on individual personalities just as with us humans 🙂
Our dog ( Kyra) get this year 16 years old. A Dachshund you most not feed to mutch because they have no stop in eating. Plus give them a bench where they sleep and stay when you go away. Greetings from the Netherlands 👍
I loved mine, have had several rescues. These dogs are usually old, I would have them until their end and have them humanely put down. This became very hard on me, so I have a Doxie mix
One thing to do if you want to keep him healthy for a long time is to brush his teeth every night at bedtime. They have such deep jowls that food stays there too long, causing tartar, cavities, and receding gums ! 😉
Or you can feed a raw diet consisting of 80% muscle meat, 10% organ meat and 10% bone and they will have beautiful white healthy teeth for life without needing any cleanings to maintain this! My 3 & 5 yo doxies have whiter more beautiful teeth than my own and I’ve never brushed them or had them cleaned! God Bless!!
@@TheGoodFruitMelancholy Yep, raw diets are the way to go. My cats and dogs eat raw, and all have excellent teeth and overall oral health. They also have great skin and coats, and shed very little. I do not feed treats. (Jan Griffiths).
They are not stubborn. They are hounds who are bred to hunt and think on their own while in the field ..they are very smart, they must figure things out for themselves when hunting....they dont like other breeds..they are good with another dachshund..they are good to keep in pairs or packs
I've had several Dachshunds in my lifetime. Everything you said about them is true, although I've never had a problem with any of them being aggressive towards children. I WILL say that they are the most charming, fearless, funny, and stubborn dog breed there is. I had one in the 1990's that was easily the most stubborn and fearless dog of all time, he was hilariously stubborn. Still my all time favorite dog because the battle of wills that were a regular part of interacting with him were usually hilarious. I never knew so much personality could be stuffed into a single dog. Best breed ever.
So I just am newly adopting a Dachshund but he’s not a puppy but we have a pure bond. I was wondering how to train him like harness training as if he was a puppy just getting all the basics to train him and take him out since he’s not a puppy
The fact that the partnership comparison shows that it's down for commiting crime with you speaks volumes....also can provide the holes for the bodies.
If you get a dachshund you can avoid any back problems by having ramps and never letting it go up and down stairs. There is a website dedicated to dachshund injury. A must read for any owner.
I've had 3 .... 1st female mini 13 years... Male standard, stubborn, 12 years, female mini 14 years 3 months... My girls weren't stubborn, very smart, listened well, wasn't around children. Children need to be taught First to have Respect for all animals. Only breed I want, I miss my baby girl lost her May 1 this year.
The Dachssong There's no other dog like a Dachshund, walking so close to the ground, their stubborn and sly as a fox and the happiest pet to be found Most kinds of dogs seem to either have shapes or proportions all wrong, they're only one way or the other, but Dachshunds are both short and long. Doxie mein Doxie, the best canine under the sun call you wiener or sausage or hot dog, we know that you're number one.
One thing that you missed, if a dachshund licks something they automatically consider it theirs. This includes people. When I go visit my kids, my ex wife's two dachshunds think I belong to them. Which seems hilarious at first, but objects are also subject to this rule and the female of the two is prone to take something and lick it, when you go to get it back, she expresses that said object is now her private property.
Watching this video in bed with Felix, Shipley, and Sadie (who is pregnant and due next week). Each dog is cocooned in his/her own fleece throw and happily snoozing. I got my first dachshund in the mid-1960s, and I think these 3 are numbers 17, 18, and 19.

I'm finally finding out about mine because I got one now, she's 5,and friend give her too me,because she couldn't take care of it, 😮😂 and that was 4 days ago, 😅
Biggest con is their stubbornness, they will love you and be the sweetest little weenies ever, but as soon as it comes to you telling them to do something or you not doing what they want, you will hear about it, those little savages are vocal beasts!
I have one and he thinks he the alpha of my home but I show him who’s the man but I love him second because my lord Jesus Christ is my first than anything in this 🌎 amen 🙏
I live in Colorado and my weiners HATE the cold. When we go poop in the winter, they just look at me and shake 😮... and think WTF, really. I'll just poop in the house, thank u. 😢 They do hate being home alone too. 😢😢

Best dogs I have ever had the pleasure of owning.
SEEMS. LIKE. THE. SMALLER. THE. DACHSUND. THE. MORE. LOVE. THERE IS❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My dear was with us for 18 years, he made us so happy, I would highly recomennd this sweet dog breed ❤️
brilliant analysis best i’ve seen
Yes, I now have my 3rd mini dachshund, two previous have passed. My current one is 3yrs old
Have had three mixed breed Doxies and one purebred. I currently own a Doxle ( Dashshund Beagle mix) Herschel, who will be 10 in August. He looks like a Piebald Doxie and acts pure Doxie.
LOVE them
I absolutely love winner dogs
uncondditional love! when i was sick or sad, she was my best friend ever!! Tufi, my little doxie, I miss you ... a lot !!
doxie's best feature/secret weapon : those eyes which talk to us ... and ...OMG... they know how to use them! 🙂
For back injury - consider learn how to hold them properly , avoiding pulling them from front legs ... without suppporting their backs.
My Doxie/ lab mix is fearless. She approaches any sized dogs & even tried chasing a bear
Thanks for sharing!
Love them.
Highly interesting, highly interesting. I reward channels with low bs-o-meter (eg.: loud, obnoxious sounds, fast frame changes, unnecessary talking, blabla, politics, pc, stuff like that).

Agree 100 %.💣💥🌭
Training a dacshund is easy with families who own multiple dogs as the dachshund will learn by example of his pack mates it will also help with exercise, food control, their playful lifestyle ,and it curbs some of their stubbornness.
You are right, and thanks for sharing!
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Just curious, what type of treats and "food" do you give your little guy? Mine is getting super picky, where as my other one will eat just about anything at anytime. 😊
Hola soy Elizabeth no sé nada de inglés pero tengo de estos perritos y los amo tengo 2 hembras
We have a 14 yr old dachshund/ terrier mix. Looks like the wire haired. Resued him at 2. Hes so charming, smart and howls when i leave my husband has taken videos. Hes my baby. ❤
So nice to see you 💜
Never had any issues with house breaking. And I had him since 6 weeks old
Thanks for watching!
what about cat cohabitation please? If they are hunter dog, is it possible to get a baby dachs with adult cats ?
thx for you very intresting video btw !!
Thanks for watching!
@@animaldigest ty for no answer 😁
Yes Cat and Dachshund can co-exist very well. My neighbours have a Dachshund and a large cat and he lies with his head on that cat and she doesn't seem to mind. It does depend on individual personalities just as with us humans 🙂
Our dog ( Kyra) get this year 16 years old. A Dachshund you most not feed to mutch because they have no stop in eating. Plus give them a bench where they sleep and stay when you go away. Greetings from the Netherlands 👍
Greetings and thanks for watching!
Luna is my second dashhund, she is now, 11 months, she is playful, funny, keeps me busy,😊she loves my scootmobil, to sit on ,when we go out,the best dogs
@@mo34jo78 have fun and enjoy it 🐶
I loved mine, have had several rescues. These dogs are usually old, I would have them until their end and have them humanely put down. This became very hard on me, so I have a Doxie mix
Thanks for sharing!
Are miniatures more prone to ivdd than regular size, or are they equally at risk?
Pros- owning one..
Cons- not owning one..

One thing to do if you want to keep him healthy for a long time is to brush his teeth every night at bedtime. They have such deep jowls that food stays there too long, causing tartar, cavities, and receding gums ! 😉
Thanks for sharing; some viewers will find the information helpful!
Yes, thanks
I've had several Dachshunds in my lifetime. Everything you said about them is true, although I've never had a problem with any of them being aggressive towards children. I WILL say that they are the most charming, fearless, funny, and stubborn dog breed there is. I had one in the 1990's that was easily the most stubborn and fearless dog of all time, he was hilariously stubborn. Still my all time favorite dog because the battle of wills that were a regular part of interacting with him were usually hilarious. I never knew so much personality could be stuffed into a single dog. Best breed ever.
When these little "people" look in the mirror they see a lion
People have the wrong ideas of these dogs. Hilarious, watch dogs, hunters and so stubborn. I miss my baby G.
Thanks for watching!
So I just am newly adopting a Dachshund but he’s not a puppy but we have a pure bond. I was wondering how to train him like harness training as if he was a puppy just getting all the basics to train him and take him out since he’s not a puppy
He’s about 4 years old I would say
I suggest speaking to a trainer!
Pro: Best dog ever.
Con: Wants cuddles.
Going to visit a little 8 week old dachshund tomorrow to see if he will be joining our family
No Cons!!!!! I have two and they are the best!!!!!
I love them.❤
In Germany they are called „Dackel“.
The Dachssong
There's no other dog like a Dachshund, walking so close to the ground, their stubborn and sly as a fox and the happiest pet to be found
Most kinds of dogs seem to either have shapes or proportions all wrong, they're only one way or the other, but Dachshunds are both short and long.
Doxie mein Doxie, the best canine under the sun call you wiener or sausage or hot dog, we know that you're number one.
Well said!
No cons here either! My Moosie is 9th in our family of doxies! I believe all dogs go to Heaven and will greet all oneday!!
Just got 2 about 2 mo ago. Our 4-5 ones. ❤
Look so clean!
I’m trying to find a home for a dachshund pup my son found in the street. She’s a beauty and sweet about a year is my best guess.
This dog has no cons
One thing that you missed, if a dachshund licks something they automatically consider it theirs. This includes people. When I go visit my kids, my ex wife's two dachshunds think I belong to them. Which seems hilarious at first, but objects are also subject to this rule and the female of the two is prone to take something and lick it, when you go to get it back, she expresses that said object is now her private property.
Do long haired dachshunds bark less?
Una sigură!!!Teckel ul este singura rasă de câini care gândește,tinandu și instinctul în frâu!!!!!! atât Laszlo din Timișoara
"Random debris" indeed. Mine saw a snowman and started barking at it.
Mine barks at fallen leaves that blow on ground
A standard sized Dachshund that weighs 32 pounds would be extremely obese. Up to 18 pounds would be considered normal.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ them l miss them they lived for fourteen years l had 5 now they are in God's lap 😭😭😭😭😭
Great dogs, one of mine is 16 but massive health issues pet insurance a must.
I agree. Thanks for watching!

No cons, to owning a,daschund love ❤of my life Flynnie has gone now but yhe best friend I ever had. The best , the unforgettable.
I love my doxie Charlie Brown!
I'm finally finding out about mine because I got one now, she's 5,and friend give her too me,because she couldn't take care of it, 😮😂 and that was 4 days ago, 😅
No con, actually one of those little girls saved my life,.
Biggest con is their stubbornness, they will love you and be the sweetest little weenies ever, but as soon as it comes to you telling them to do something or you not doing what they want, you will hear about it, those little savages are vocal beasts!
One con - they think they’re pit bulls and aren’t scared of dangerous dogs. Otherwise, a million pros.
I have one and he thinks he the alpha of my home but I show him who’s the man but I love him second because my lord Jesus Christ is my first than anything in this 🌎 amen 🙏

Amen !🌭🌭
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Don’t let the dachshund do *says everything my dachshund does*
I live in Colorado and my weiners HATE the cold. When we go poop in the winter, they just look at me and shake 😮... and think WTF, really. I'll just poop in the house, thank u. 😢
They do hate being home alone too. 😢😢
