I have 2 miniatures... have had a dozen more during my lifetime...they are the best...I love them as my kids...they are smart and so loving...my favorite breed.
Dachshunds can also be a challenge to train because of their independent spirit. And they aren't the best at alerting to be let out. But we've had two miniatures (one at a time) who lived to 15 years old. One had some serious back issues that fortunately healed; we trained him not to jump on furniture. Their favorite thing is to curl up with us under a blanket on the sofa (after we lift them up). They love burrowing under blankets!
Our one is great he’s an amazing dog. But occasionally he will resource guard things and if you try to take it away he will bite (he has an insanely strong bite). They also bark a lot and don’t need much provoking.
When I'm done studying i really would've liked to have a dachshund. But on second thought, I also own two small guinea pigs who might be endangered with a dachshund around...I mean my cat also adapted to the guinea pigs and is more scared of them but still...I might reconsider getting a dachshund after all😅
My parents got me a Dachshund when I was a sophomore in high school and she was the best girl. Dad took me to pick one out and I remember this room w/ all these little knuckleheads running around doing the stupid stuff little puppies do. Almost immediately a caramel colored little girl broke away and just casually strolled over, sat down right in front of me and just looked up at me. Kept eye contact the entire time and didn't move. I sat on the floor and she crawled up on to my lap and into my jacket sleeve and then popped her head out under my hand like she'd done it 100 times before. Dad said I guess you found your dog. I think she found me. I swear less than 5 mins. from when we walked in to when we were taking care of the business end of it. Only two negatives about her the entire time: 1) she was so GASSY! OMG. How such a big, foul smell came from such a sweet little flower like her I never did figure out. 2) she was a runner. We guarded the doors like hockey goalies because she was always looking for the 5-hole and when she found it, off she went.
I have a neighbour behind me they have four and all of them bark all the time they don't sound like a great Dane just yappy little dogs and it's even everytime when I let my dogs go out and my dogs look at me of like to be really have to put up with this to go pee
I have a doxie (5 lbs) and my neighbor has (25 lbs) one. They bark back and forth like they are going to tear down the fence. Until my English mastiff says yo stfu. Then it’s all quiet on the block lol
They're beautiful but you have tt be careful with their backs. They are prone to back problems. I wouldn't recommend children being around them cause you know how kids can be clumsy and trip over them and hurt them.

I am thinking about adopting a 4 years old one ❤

On number 5 & 6 only one had back problem resolved by surgery. Lived 13, 16,17,16.

The miniature ones I’ve found tend to be more barky than the standards in general

They have back problems because of the AKC breeding them for longer and longer backs
Pros. Owning one.
Cons. Not owning one.
