That is because China is a big security threat as if Syria, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Iran, Belarus, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia are to me.
There is a whole History of trade between Korea, China, Japan, and Europeans.
Historical records suggest that European merchants did engage in the trade of African slaves to various parts of Asia, including Japan and Korea. During the 16th and 17th centuries, European colonial powers such as Portugal, Spain, and the Netherlands were actively involved in the transatlantic slave trade as well as the East Asian slave trade.
European merchants traded African slaves with various Asian countries in exchange for goods and commodities. These slaves were often brought to Asian colonies and territories to work in plantations, mines, households, and as military laborers. Some of the slaves were also resold and transported to other parts of Asia, including Japan and Korea.

Please be extra vigilant and get training, if you haven’t already, to handle a pistol, so you’ll have a chance to defend yourself. I wouldn’t put it past the DPRK to kidnap you just like they’ve done in South Korea. At least 20,000 Chinese young men have come through the U.S. southern border this year, and possibly some of them could be DPRK agents.

Which means China is fully complicit in North Korea's human rights violations. For that alone, China should be internationally sanctioned. That is not okay. I don't care how important they are economically. At the moment, there are alternatives to Chinese manufacturing.

as much as I hate China sending the defectors back to north korea, but I do think it has nothing to do with the wood. It is more likely China wants a peaceful borderline with North Korea to protect their own land and people and maintain a good relationship with North Korea government. It is so sad to think about all governments being crucial towards refugees, including china, Russia and the US.
Ps, both China and Russia have signed an agreement with North Korea government to send the defectors back. That’s why she had to go through Mongolia to get to South Korean instead of China or Russia, which are much closer. Vietnam also does the same thing currently (not before though). Politics are uglier than we truly want to know.
