"Freedom needs responsibility, discipline, and virtue." What wise words from her.
That’s a video with someone who actually does research on topics before interviewing people does
Freedom, at the same time, have a cost to it. There must be a balace between freedom and communism. USA is a example of when there is too much freedom. I think Singapore should be the model country in this case.
Wow her ability to converse in English improved tremendously. Very far from her 2014 speech. She's now speaking in a natural way. So glad she has a fighting spirit to live and learn.
As if that’s the only way to justify her existence and validation. No one needs to speak English in a “natural” way to get their point across. She got into Columbia in NY with her “unnatural” way of speaking English so.
@@fomosexual op is just saying her english has improved and it's very impressive - learning any language is difficult, but english is perhaps one of the most difficult languages to learn. her english back then was still fine and allowed her to get her point across as well.
UA-cam posters "Yoel And Mari," Yoel is from Cuba, he learned English by watching US television. BTW you guys should watch a few of their postings, you will develop a whole new appreciation for what we have in the USA.
“If you have a meaning, everything is bearable” - this is one of the most insightful statements I've ever heard. Mad respect, Yeonmi.
As a refugee myself who walked almost a month to escape for freedom, I must say how thankful we are for those countries that allow refugees to start again. 🌸
Good for you. We in the west don’t value our freedom like others do, because we don’t know any better..
I’ve watched many of her speeches and interviews and what always hits me is when she says “People always say I was so brave for crossing to China. And I have tell them I wasn’t brave, I was just starving to death!”
Yeh she said the pain of starvation is worse than being raped. She actually said she’d rather be raped than go through the pain of severe starvation again. Can you imagine that being in that much physical pain from starving you’d rather be attacked and raped? I can’t even work that out.

Look up yeonmi Park exposed or yeonmi Park lies. Her story changes frequently and she's regularly caught lying. Her story is greatly exaggerated. There's multiple versions of her story and the sex work one is only one of her many versions. Not saying life in North Korea is not hard. But I am saying that yeonmi Park is a liar who's using an exaggerated version of her experience to lie and make money.

I'm sure ur right but its more of lies mixed in truth. Most people I see that call her out believe NK propaganda. Not saying u do but that does say something.
@@Yomamadrunk she’s a straight up liar, I feel bad for her, but she was in the top 1% of elite lifestyle, and couldn’t believe other defectors were from the same country, she’s a liar, using NK for internet clout and money.

I'm Chinese and this is still happening here every day, despite how terrible the situation is the government is still not willing to do more, ppl prefer male kids so they abandon girls or kill them right after they are born, which leads to 30M more men than women, and what's the solution? stop killing girls? no, they chose human trafficking, this country is hopeless
Her story was terrifying but she has turned it into such an inspiring thing. So much respect to her. And her love of America is more than some people I know have. She is an example of what being American is all about.
Look, she was saved by a miracle of God, through missionaries...meanwhile, nothing better goes for her peoples no mater what she does as an human rights activist...maybe this should ring a bell ???

When you hear all the talks of “equity” and “diversity”, your ears should perk up. These are the types of people who are seeking to completely flip the hierarchy of values in the United States.

Those last parts when Yeonmi points out how US is beginning to lose its traction on freedom and how it is becoming like North Korea, from a defector's point of view, Americans must appreciate the liberty they thought they never had.
This was amazing and it made me cry a lot... I absolutely loved the things you said about freedom and how it doesn't mean that you can just do whatever you want. I see that everywhere and in so many people who abuse the idea of freedom.
Thanks for sharing this story with us
she is the whole definition of survivor , bravery and inspiration. what a motivation she carrying inside hats off to her !

“Freedom without meaning and virtue is anarchy” she is really wise. Great video as always!

@@elizabethwinsor-strumpetqueen no one should want anarchy. Don't spread such dangerous false knowledge. Powerful interview. As Americans we must be able to listen in order to learn where our blind spots are leading us away from freedom.
Even if she contradicts and changes the story sometimes we should listen.
@@dou_june0v037 you shouldn’t have to ask for freedoms and no government should ever have the authority to grant you freedom. Every human should be born with freedom what makes you think it’s the governments job to give you freedom or we should ask for it? It’s a fundamental basic right.

I've read her book "In Order to Live". Try to get a copy because it's a must read. The kind of atrocities done by the hermit kingdom, North Korea is unimaginable. We are extremely lucky to have not been born there.

This is the best interview I have seen with her. She is an incredible inspiration. I had no idea Yeonmi Park lived in Chicago and I've been an IL resident my whole life, super cool! I also find it super cool that you interviewed her with the Regis hotel behind her (the tallest building in the world designed by a female architect)

I just finished reading her book. This interview only touched the surface compared to what she went thru… she is the epitome of resilience. Highly recommend her book.
Thank you for the way you handled this interview.
“Freedom needs discipline, needs responsibility, needs virtue.” Perfectly said.
“I sacrifice myself for my family”
That hit hard, I can relate but not on that level. I had to do some bad shit when I was younger and almost got killed to spare my family/ex. But no where on this level man.

I read Yeonmi’s first book 📖, amazing to see her free and in America 🇺🇸. She deserves all the happiness in the world !
What an inspirational and wise young lady. Thank you Yeonmi for sharing your story and thoughts. And thank you Drew for arranging this important interview.
Chills were running up and down my spine when she was comparing the current state of America to North Korea. The fact she is worried about it absolutely terrifies me. It is a kick in the shorts for sure.
i always wonder then, how come you dont see that yourself, and i see some same things develop in europe, the populists are
gaining power thought telling lies.
You're absolutely right, felt a punch to the gut when she said that, mostly because I think it's true. We as Americans are living in dangerous times, when all our rights and liberties are at stake and most of us don't even know it, do we need a repeat of history to realize this? Wake up America, get your head out of your apps.
It’s been happening around the world. Since the pandemic of covid 19, it has gotten worst and worst. I live in Australia, and I have seen this happening here. My parents live in Brazil, and it's happening there! So the government is the biggest censorship ever. Express yourself become hate speech as is somebody has to approve what can you think or feel. Then you got the agenda of gender / racial segregation.... It's a complicated life nowadays
I'm glad she said it in this and other videos but to me it's been pretty obvious for some time now. The current left, particularly the young left, clearly don't believe in free speech.
It’s amazing that it takes someone who lived in utter oppression and terror to tell us how we are becoming more like those horrible nations.
Sending love and support to Yeonmi! Please come to London and give the people here a speech on freedom!

One of the best 25 minutes i've spent in my life. Is always a pleasure to listen to Yeonmi Park, she knows what's shes talking about and more people should listen to her.
I watch Yeonmi's videos a lot. But in this video you've brought out her inner self without her carefully prepared format. This was breathtaking to listen to, so animated, so focused. Thank you. This lady is more of an American than so many who were born here, because she doesn't ignore, and SEES the damage that our petty divisions can, and do, bring. She has suffered things that most cannot imagine, let alone survive. I am grateful that she is here to speak boldly about problems that we are so willing to ignore while we head to get coffee.
Very nicely done! Most relaxed interview yet! She’s the best! Love her♥️
Her love for America is more patriotic & more wholesome than many people who lived their entire lives in the US. I adore her!
