simple, not too large, small embellishments, strong build yet delicate and modest, respect for the surroundings, respect for the soul... just beautiful. you are lucky kirsten.
If this was filmed 5yrs ago it still remains a stunning evergreen concept.... delivering the harmony with nature...beautifully crafted.. Far from distractions that influence our peace of mind..⭐
Robert Swatt's interpretations of West Coast Modern Archatecture are stunningly beautiful. I hope is mentoring junior associates in his firm and his "vision" will continue to live and evolve long after his time has past. Simply brilliant!
Kirsten, nice find! Absolutely awe-inspiring design & architecture, but really the surrounding area make the teahouses stand out even more. Thanks for the upload!

I really am enjoying this interpretation of tea houses. I was contemplating a tea- summer house and shed combination. I have a restricted budget so have been inspired to build it myself. It will be mostly timber frame.
In the beginning, I was turned off because I thought the floor had cracks open to the ground below, but then saw a baseboard heater under the desk and realized this was not the case. The skylight above was sublime. Really nice spaces.
Lovely - I wish the first tea house had openings in the glass walls. (Like the bedroom). It felt a little closed in. But all in all - super lovely execution.
So great to see more detail from these tea houses! I bought the "CoastModern" documentary DVD set from Canada after seeing it on TV in Australia, and these tea houses were featured in it. (Brilliant double DVD set, by the way, if you like mid-century modern architecture-I have watched the DVDs many times since buying it, I never tire of it. Thank you so much, Kirsten, for uploading this!!
Really wonderful......wow! There was the one scene where it really did seem to "disappear" into the setting. Not usually my taste/style, but these are really something special in my view. thanks so much for sharing!
Very similar to Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House (1945-51) and Phillip Johnson's Glass House (1949). I like this a little better. Having the three functions in three separate buildings makes it a little more functional, and the concrete cores provide better grounding. The forested and bushy hillside landscape offers some shade and privacy. The Farnsworth House is so disdainful of the environment that it only reluctantly allows its feet to touch the ground. It also ignorantly sits on a flood plain, whereas it could easily have been sited on higher ground. It got flooded as a result. The Glass House sits on a manicured lawn, but appears uncomfortable doing so. Neither one offers enough privacy to actually live in. Obviously, without kitchen facilities this isn't a complete home, it's only a retreat from a larger home devoted to entertaining. Thus, it is more frankly honest about the impracticality of its minimalism for true residential use.
These are breath-taking. But, despite hearing it mentioned twice that organic debris on the skylights is welcomed as part of the ambiance, still, I notice that those yards and yards of glass are pristine-clean. Definitely not a house for someone who hates washing windows, lol.
When he said "There is tea" and pointed at the shelves over the counter sink I thought, "No, there ARE teas." // The pavilions are a nice balance of concrete, steel and glass with unfinished wooden floors. I wish there had been some footage of them at night. Outside lighting in the trees? // Those skylights could have been designed to clean themselves with rain runoff. As they are now, how do they handle water collecting in their frames?
The *other* thing your channel has taught me is that aesthetically inspired, expertly crafted and splendidly executed dwellings are neither easy nor cheap to conceive and build.
I remember seeing these in some architectural magazine .. when he commented _I wonder if you could ever really get work done_ made me think that it might have been interesting to have one tea house that enclosed the tenant ( the offic? so he could get work done ) . . . perhaps white walls with a skylight or completely/selectively frosted glass
Dave - I, having two medium size glass windows, know exactly what your referring to. Breaks my heart three/four times a year. I put up a simple string of reflectors (one per window) which has helped. But this project would require a definite design solution, not something hacked together like mine. Anyway, Swatt Miers; congratulations - Wonderful solution / Remarkable results.
Love this house. One of my favorites. I wonder if one of these would work in the right spot in Vermont? Probably no way to insulate well enough but maybe with a glass wall away from the wind.
For me to do this I'd need the windows to have an electronic dimming film to make it transparent to opaque like a window in a Boeing 787. Or Motorized ceiling retracting window shade/blind. Aesthetically I think the Shades/Blinds would look nicer but for space saving the dimming film/gel whatever fits the bill nicer. I personally would choose either one what ever my contractor suggested but the idea of multiple "tea" houses for specific reasons is brilliant and I'm sure it could work on flattish land too. Each house could be on it's own solar system making it easier to work with, and if one house needed extra it could draw from the unused power of the other houses. Water and sewage would just require the water to split off to the houses.
It is very tranquil and beautiful but, I was surprised there is no genkan that allows for the transformation from outside to inside literally and mindfully.
They’re beautiful and I love them! I can’t help but wonder if birds fly into the glass. It would be sad to build a beautiful structure that allows you to enjoy nature that would harm wildlife. I hope this isn’t the case! Does anyone know if it’s an issue?
Self made wealthy people are just people who found a way of doing things for lots of other people which they value. You could become a self made expert in most things and do that if you tried hard
romancandlefight ... only 4% of US population become millionaires and it’s a lower % rate for the working class person. Most wealthy people have inherited it and have hidden their wealth offshore! It’s a talking point of the elite so the “regular” people stay hopeful, stay oblivious and don’t vote to raise taxes on the wealthy ... or vote them out! Not to mention the 100’s of thousands of people homeless in America. Btw the tea house are exquisite.
This is a Mies Van Der Rohe Glass House, pitched as traditional Japanese. The entire theme and philosophy is what Mies Van Der Rohe intended, using glass to blend into nature. It's strange that he doesn't give him credit. Also, I'd use it to park my 1968 convertible, Ferrari 250 GT California special.
This video is 9 years old, but I am so drawn back to it. The beauty, warmth and simplicity are spot on.
simple, not too large, small embellishments, strong build yet delicate and modest, respect for the surroundings, respect for the soul... just beautiful. you are lucky kirsten.
I love this guy's attitude. It might not be a tea house, whatever, they've all got the tea house spirit and that's what they cared about.
Such a perfect space for Reflection, Meditation, Creativity! God is visible all around.
If this was filmed 5yrs ago it still remains a stunning evergreen concept.... delivering the harmony with nature...beautifully crafted..
Far from distractions that influence our peace of mind..⭐
It would be ok if you do not need a kitchen to prepare food, or do not need a laundry room to wash your clothes.
This concept is fascinating. After all the videos I watched on domestic architecture and alternative housing this one remains very compelling!
One of the best home idea I've ever seen. I would love to live there. It's so connected to nature it feels like you live in it
Robert Swatt's interpretations of West Coast Modern Archatecture are stunningly beautiful. I hope is mentoring junior associates in his firm and his "vision" will continue to live and evolve long after his time has past. Simply brilliant!
Incredible ! I think if you lived in a place like that you wouldn’t worry about how much work you got done .
i feel relaxed just looking at it
Kirsten, nice find! Absolutely awe-inspiring design & architecture, but really the surrounding area make the teahouses stand out even more. Thanks for the upload!
That table and view in the final teahouse is awesome, almost like an art room more than an office. I feel a creative mood just looking at it :)
This is so nice and relaxing but the secret is the old trees and beautiful views!

Stunning in its simplicity. Beautiful. And Perfect.
I really am enjoying this interpretation of tea houses. I was contemplating a tea- summer house and shed combination. I have a restricted budget so have been inspired to build it myself. It will be mostly timber frame.
The bathroom is really cool and the solution they give for the shower and floor is great !
Thanks for spreading so lofty ideas to enrich our lives
How have I missed this gem? It’s beautiful.
I always enjoy watching these videos. They give me loads of ideas.
Beautiful! A concept us westerners are not used to, relax, stand still, doing nothing, just contemplating.
Must be nice and cool in hot summer days, I like it. I'd probably sleep in there. A meditation dorm, how cool is that!
Ex Machina a brilliant movie - in a brilliant house.
This Tea House reminds me of this breath-taking movie and i love it!
The Botanical Garden in Portland, Oregon has a BEAUTIFUL Tea room!!
I like it. It is minimalistic architecture with a meditative view of nature.
Beautiful!
Thanks for bringing this to the world!
In the beginning, I was turned off because I thought the floor had cracks open to the ground below, but then saw a baseboard heater under the desk and realized this was not the case. The skylight above was sublime. Really nice spaces.
Fantastic space in nature. Glass walls in such a beautiful location, just wow. :)
Love the concept of the tea house. Less technology is good in my books. Great design
These are mindblowingly GORGEOUS!!!!! Wow...I could MOVE HERE, in a heart beat...Thank you.
Une maison de rêve. J'aime énormément cette maison en verre. Le cadre est magnifique. Bravo!
Truly beautiful design and zen style
Regardless of the tea houses (not my cup of tea) this is one nice architect to talk to, very down to earth and unpretentious...
I think i will build a couple of these! Im looking to find something to make, but all the others, were huge. This here, follows the human metrics.
Lovely - I wish the first tea house had openings in the glass walls. (Like the bedroom). It felt a little closed in. But all in all - super lovely execution.
let's not worry about what to call them/what they are called. just enjoy them!
Thank you for sharing an amazing creative property...hoping this can be redone for affordability...
After watching almost all of your videos, this is the first time I feel truly jealous... I want those teahouses for me, and me alone, so badly.
lol same!
So nice to see such a beautifully crafted place.

Wow. What a dreamhouse! Beautiful.
Instant love .. i really like the result, and also the concept idea's..
One place for tea, and the other one for work.... but I am wondering what is he working!
I love it...
Such a cool place; love that table!
amazing. Please have more of this types of architecture.
Makes you want to move to where nature is most splendid.
Really wonderful......wow! There was the one scene where it really did seem to "disappear" into the setting. Not usually my taste/style, but these are really something special in my view. thanks so much for sharing!

With the kind of budget accompanying these, washing your own windows is of no concern.
I grew up in a house like this. 50 years ago.
Outstanding: I hope your family held onto it (it must be worth *at least* as much as this one by now ;)
Absolutely breathtaking.
Beautiful smile🥰
So beautiful! Well done!
Beautiful smile🥰

the teahouse is type of place i practice guitar all day and relaxing.
Incredibly beautiful.
very pretty and thoughtful
One thing you channel has thought me is that, with an abundance of money anything is possible.
The *other* thing your channel has taught me is that aesthetically inspired, expertly crafted and splendidly executed dwellings are neither easy nor cheap to conceive and build.
Perfect house just adapted with a cooking area and it’s all done.
I thought it looked like my neck of the woods. One of the best places to live on the planet, IMO. :)
Architecture is basically a container of something - I hope they will enjoy not so much the teacup, but the tea.
This is beautiful! I honestly wouldn't mind having tea houses as an only property, though that might break tradition.
just a very modern cabin ... now the focus is the house 2nd is nature.
but its stiil amazing to see.
Stunning! Thank you for sharing.
hi, i love this chanel. thank you for sharing. i like this house much, so simple, natural, relaxing and good!
I like the designs and his idea. I would like to built these in my backyard.
This is absolutely perfect!
una casa stupenda!!!complimenti
I would have loved to see it at night. Great idea. Thanks!
Fantastic! my hubby would definitely lovr to have it once we receive our money👏👏👏
Unique details. I like the idea.
Beautiful tea house !!!!!
woah! THIS is my favourite

VERY interesting what that gentlemen had to say. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Really beautiful, thanks for sharing!
Truly beautiful connection to nature, but at the cost of how many birds lives,as it appears to invite them to fly right through.

Uprated, shared, really well presented. Shared.
Killer walls, I liked the bathroom the best.
It is very tranquil and beautiful but, I was surprised there is no genkan that allows for the transformation from outside to inside literally and mindfully.
Simplicity is relaxing
amazing, just guessing how's insulation on different seasons.

It happens.
when the rich goes natural. Expensive and perfect.
I Love this!! Just my kinda thing
Maaaan... what I'd give to live in a place like that. Too bad happiness in this gorgeous form is for the wealthy.
Self made wealthy people are just people who found a way of doing things for lots of other people which they value. You could become a self made expert in most things and do that if you tried hard
Give up 10 years on off shore oil rig. You’ll have enough for this
@@romancandlefight1144 But not everybody can.

I could live here , I wouldnt mind living here anyway :)
...another degree of AWESOME !
I think the 3 rooms are gorgeous, but as tea houses, I think that's stretch.
Absolutely love this.
Philip Johnson would be proud! 😀
really beautiful- these little y/not so little cubes , but teahouses they aren’t / i wonder how you are supposed to clean all the glass?
Oh i see that takashi Murakami ”painting” in the third Tea house:)
This video is very relaxing
Absolutely beautiful
