I have an AX-86U arriving soon and am planning to make my current AC-68U the mesh node for better coverage on the other side of the house; now I have a great overview of the (simpler than I expected) process. Very grateful that you took the time to make this informative video.... cheers!

    Great guide, thanks, although I'd always recommend a ethernet backhaul vs a wireless one, not only will it perform faster and more reliably, it'll free up wifi capacity on your routers.

    • @FS-flash
      @FS-flash Місяць тому +1

      Ethernet backhaul is overrated. I have a dualband with wifi backhaul (on different levels of my house) and it performs perfectly. I dont want cables through my whole house like it is the 90s. If i really would notice performance issues in the future, I will buy a triband router instead. But absolutely not needed yet.

      @Ablk84 Місяць тому +2

      @@FS-flash it might work fine for you but it doesn’t change the fact it’s using wireless capacity and bandwidth which it wouldn’t with an Ethernet cable, and you’ll be carrying an overhead on ping which if you game. If you can live with these things, good for you. If you want the best experience, wire it up.

    Fine video! Very thorough, to-the-point and easy to follow. Thank you for your efforts, I do appreciate your video guide. EDIT: I have many different smart devices that use the 2.4 Ghz band so I'm going to configure the 5 Ghz band, if I can, for the routers to communicate between each other (and possibly also use that 5G band for devices such as phones and tablets). I'm hoping that I won't have to use the Ethernet Backhaul Mode (5:29), but que sera sera as they say.

    • @OzTm
      @OzTm Рік тому +1

      Actually, IMO there is absolutely NO situation ever where Wireless Backhaul Mode performs better than Ethernet Backhaul Mode. The cable connection offers much greater stability, usually much better speeds, no bandwith sharing (especially on older, doual band models). The ONLY reason anyone would want to use wireless backhaul would be if they can't connect the two units with a cable (for instance, living in a rented space, so you can't drill holes into the walls :) )

    Another great video - thank you. Too bad I can't use my old Asus RT-AC51U as an AIMESH node? Asus seem to chuck their older models into the bin virtually, rather quickly ==> the costs of setting up a mesh network spiral. What would be useful is a list of older routers that can be utilised which we could pick up cheaply on Ebay.

    Your great guide enabled me to setup my two node (RT-AX55/RT-1800S) wifi 6 mesh system without a hitch....mostly. I am experiencing some speed issues. The ISP provides 1,000 mbps but a speed test at the parent router indicates a little less than 800mbps. My 5GHz devices are getting a little less than 300mbps when located right next to a parent or child router and the 2.4GHz devices get anywhere from 35-70 in that same kind of location. Is there a setting on the router that can speed things up at the device level and to get a speed at the router that is closer to what is provided by my ISP? I am not using a VPN on the ASUS RT-AX3000 parent router (I had one setup using another one of your great guides but deleted it) because that bogs things down even more with all devices regardless of which band they are assigned by the router (I have smart connect enabled on my parent router). Also, all nodes show a great connection to the parent router which are both backhauled to the parent directly and are assigned connection to the parent using the 5GHz band.

    I love the video. I'm going to use this solution for my house. I currently have 2 Linksys wireless-n routers (Primary-Secondary). My setup currently hardwires the two routers to each other (using the ethernet in my walls). I "think" it would be better to use the wired backhaul option as opposed to connecting the two ASUS devices wirelessly. It sounded like you felt as though a wireless backhaul connection would be better?

    Thank You for and excellent presentation.
    I have installed an ASUS AiMesh network based on 3 ASUS RT-AC68U Routers and when one of the nodes failed, I replaced with a RT-AX58U Router and I discover an anomaly regarding the use of the USB function Samba shared network disks.
    On the new router I was able to access the USB functionality and add and share the attached USB disk drive with no problems. I also have this function working OK on the AiMesh Master node.
    The problem comes when I try to use the same USB-Program in the RT-AC68U child nodes: I come to the configuration page showing the menu Server Center, Time Maskin and Download Master. I try to connect to the Server Center, but that is not working, it returns to the menu without an error message, just not loading the interface to add devices, just nothing.
    Så I have two questions You may have the expertice to help with: It works with the
    RT-AX58U as node, but not with the RT-AC-68U, any explanation?
    Second: Can it help setting the RT-AX-58U as Primare Router (AiMesh parent) and if so how can I swith the topology of the AiMesh network without starting from Zero?
    Hopes to find a solution and all help is very welcome

    Hello, I have 2 RT-AX92U routers. How do I get my devices to use the node device over the main router? I have 46 "clients" that stay on the main router and only 1 "client" on the node. I've tried moving the node around the house but still only picks up one device.

    I have an ASUS ROG AC-5300. Router is on the ground floor, my PS5 is on the 1st floor. Wired connection via Ethernet cable is not viable. Would it work well to use an AiMesh system by buying another cheaper ASUS router and then using the Ethernet port on the node router? I’m looking for a wired connection to the PS5

      In this case, it is better to go with an Ethernet Powerline connection like I demonstrate in this video: ua-cam.com/video/6VMByXrSi3M/v-deo.html

      I just had this problem. I called Asus and they told me it was a problem with my main router and that it would need to be repaired. I don't think this is the case, as many people are having this problem. Google it and you will find a number of people with the same problem. It is most likely is a firmware problem.
