My hubby is a builder, he works on lots of listed buildings, he was trained when young as a Dry Stone Dyker, cut his teeth on the walls at Plean Country Park, says what a bonus it is to get someone like Jim, a craftsman, to help with your wee cottage. She’s a Bonnie wee hoose that deserves the best. Fare chuffed that you got Jim to help you, thought I seen him in the background of your last vlog. Loved the wee story about ‘this old Croft’ Katie, beautiful piece of writing ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Katie and Scott, A brilliant informative and historical episode. Loved the old photos. My paternal grandmother was born in 1875 and died in 1952. I am 83 and remember tales of travelling in a coach or trap pulled by horses, travelling by train was a luxury and home entertainment was the radio. What changes!!! I now have Wi-Fi, computers and ability to watch so much on television but we also need to appreciate the simple things. Thank you. 🐏🐑🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

What a treasure your friend Jim is! The work on the window, especially the sill, is absolutely beautiful! Well done! I can so relate to the story about Olivia, doing what the young builders weren't willing to do. I had a small fan installed near my kiln, and they did a horrible job. I took it out and redid it so it worked well and looked good, and then showed them. I essentially said the same thing she did - if a little old lady can do it, you can do it. Their lame excuse was that "they weren't fan installers". I have so much respect for craftsmen who take pride in their work. Katie, your small essays are just wonderful. Have you ever considered making a book of them, when you have enough? It is much needed in this world.

The house is coming along great. Can't wait to see it done, as I'm sure you are too. It's nice to have these experienced professionals do the job. When we built our house we had the contractor do all the setting up, then I would do all the busy work like nail pounding, screwing, and clean up. Over the years we are losing those experts of the old ways and techniques, of building and refurbishing these old buildings.

I love watching you both restore the old home. That was once my dream, however, here in Australia stone homes are hard to find. I totally agree with you about the old Christian values of helping each other and the good values it comes with. Sadly life isn't what it once was, that's why the world is as it is. Maybe this lesson may have to be learnt again with hard times coming. Enjoy your videos, can't wait to see more renovations. Take care 🇦🇺 ❤

I love moss mountain. we had a a famous gardener in Sydney who loved the patina that grows on pots and she said that mixing a little bit of the lichen in with yoghurt would enable the lichens to grow on pots or rocks. Fishing! Yes! That will be fun. Also are there lobsters around? You'd need a boat to set the lobster pots, I guess.

G'day Katie and Scott, if the tank to which you installed a fitting is intended to be used for potable water, you might consider ensuring you use food-grade silicone as the sealant.
In case you don't already know, an English school teacher named Lillian Beckwith also took on a croft in the outer Hebrides during the first half of the twentieth century while recovering from an illness.
She wrote a number of interesting and entertaining books about the locals, their lifestyle and her experiences living among them when she too acquired and restored a Croft.
In my opinion her books are well worth reading and Beckwith also wrote some fictional titles one of which is 'The Green Hand' which is one of my favorites.
It is a story about a young Welshman who goes to Scotland on holiday with some mates and becomes strongly committed to the lifestyle of Scots fishermen.

It's always a pleasure to watch a craftsman work. It's all the little things they do that they learned through years of experience and the rest of us are totally clueless about. It's a gorgeous piece of slate.
You're putting your stamp on it. The cottage will become yours more and more. Eventually, you and the cottage will become entwined. Moss mountain looks very organic. Nice! You know what I love, but got fished out was plaice. I loved fish and chips made with plaice. You can still find it, but it's very rare.

I think you named it moss mountain Katie. I can remember saying in a premiere that I thought it needed a code name, during the construction phase. And that's when you said you'd been calling it MM. Love the windowsill, and great news Jim can help with the dodgy 70s legacy.

Loved you're conversation about the fish, it's one my husband and I have had many a time, I'm with Scott if I can't see it alive I'm ok, I also don't want to see it with a head and tail on it
