Building a vertical mill from industrial scrap

  • Here I’m adding vertical milling capability to my home-built lathe, again using mostly stuff from the local industrial scrap yard. A rather non conventional design, but for its compact size I think still a nice result. It's powered by a 500W DC motor, with home-build speed controller. The Mill chuck is in line with the lathe chuck centerline and able to move vertically and horizontally for milling slots. Thanks to the many UA-cam videos on machining, I was able to quickly get familiar with some milling techniques.
You can find the design files like 3D CAD drawings, electrical schematics and microcontroller firmware files on my website page: www.simprojects.nl/lathe_and_m...

I would love to have a scrap yard with that type of JUNK. This is one of the bets video's i have seen in a while. I'm not sure what you do for a day job but i sure bet they don't pay you enough. MacGyver.
