Best video I’ve watched all week. Laughed my arse off, then had to explain to my wife why cutting a raw egg was funny. There’s six minutes of my life gone forever.
One thing that I am reminded of (as I received the Ultem Hogue Deka from BHQ today and was taking it out while watching this review) is that when cutting on a a flat surface with most folding knives (e.g., bugout, griptillian, freek, manix 2, sage 5, pm2, stretch, endura, delica, creely mako, every single flipper ever) like the deka, the straight part of the blade (which is 2 inches of the blade!) is unusable because the way the figure guard protrudes 5mm below the line of the blade. This similar to the PM2, where the finger choil and angle of the grip prevent the rear half of the edge from being used on a flat cutting surface. Similar to the elementum with the finger guard protruding beyond the heel of the blade. Whereas here, this qubit has the belly back closer near the heel of the blade, and the heel of the blade protrudes to or beyond the figure guard nub at the front of the handle, and the angle of the handle to the blade lets you (using a pinch grip) get pretty far back on the blade when cutting on a flat surface. I point this out, because when slicing on a cutting surface, you're dragging the edge of the blade along the cutting surface, and when you're forced to essentially one location where the knife edge is in contact with the cutting surface, you are going to put all the wear onto that single location. To me, without ever having held or used a qubit, this looks like a very smart configuration of the blade and handle that let you take advantage of the full length of the edge, even when on a cutting board, which means wear will distribute over the length of the edge, compared to say, the PM2, where any cutting on a cutting board will put all the wear on the outer 1" of the blade. If you aren't cutting on a surface, then none of this matters.
This is also how it used to be when there were a ton of great american knife manufacturers! There was so much good cutlery available it became more about what kind of handle scales you liked, what little gadgets you wanted on it, how many blades, etc. Bit of a golden age now for us!
Aww I just love that cutie fluffy head 😊. Talking about the cat, lol. The mental image of that Civivi cutting a raw egg will stick with me for awhile. Knife company’s should flood your mail box with knives to review from now on…..Great, honest, and yet fun review. Thx!!
I recently got into knives and I only have a few. I got this a week ago and I love it. Probably gonna be my go to knife for edc for the foreseeable future
Pete, you need a good Vidalia onion! They're sweet, crispy, crunchy, a little oniony, and work wonderfully on sandwiches. I'm sure you have some kind of sweet onions there, by whatever name. Here in the US they're similar to WallaWalla Sweets or Georgia Sweets.
There’s a lot to be said about XIII, but man the music is great. Also because of all your TRM talk lately you’ve got me waiting for an Atom drop. I already had one once, thought I hated it, but now I want another. The cycle goes on
I fear I am not cool for loving the design of this knife of a knife. But, honestly this is the fist Civivi I've been excited about since the McKenna. Something about the button lock, that leaf shape and anodized scales. Also, who doesn't want to crack open an egg after cracking open several beers? It's just good, clean fun.
Always love your vids! What was the size/sharpening montage music? I felt very much like The Magnificent Seven or Aaron Copeland. I would like to jam out to it when I do my real time, real life cool stuff montages.
"It's a nice piece of kit". Then he proceeds to throw it on the sharpener.. LOL. Man, I'm really enjoying seeing your videos again. Thank you for your time and effort. I hope you enjoy making these videos as much as we enjoy seeing them!
Just got the same knife a couple days ago. It’s fine. Good grind, blade well centered, it’s sharp. No complaints at all. Doubt it’s going into my regular EDC rotation but it’s fine
The other day in a small town near here in a rural supply shop I saw a folding knife in a plastic clam shell packet beside some yard tools and took a closer look expecting to have a chuckle at the crapness, but was a little taken aback to see the print on the packaging advertising the D2 steel. Hmmm, ok I thought, well played.
I was at a Cabella's recently and everything was marked up, crappy or both, but there was this little store brand knife. 7Cr, but for 30 CAD with good design and ergos. Probably should have got it.
these civvys are cool for sure Pete. random note here i just got my first mule team blank in Rex t15(MT34); i was kinda perusing the list of past mule steels and legit it seems like 85% of the list end up being high end/exotic, sprint run quality steels that are A to S tier right off the rip.. now i kinda feel like i wanna catch'm all ffs!!
Nice review. Civivi and a couple of others are turning out some good value knives now. Have you reviewed any Kubey knives? What is the sharpener you use in this video?
It would be nice if Worksharp would send you a ken onion belt grinder so you can easily aharpen and test your big blades, like that bent coolina cleaver
Back in the 70s during fraternity "Hell Week" raw onions were referred to as "Happy Apples"! And after eating a Happy Apple, one is usually forced to sleep alone.
Civivi makes a TRM Neutron clone called the Civivi Ray Laconico Sokoke Front Flipper Knife 3.35" Bead Blasted Drop Point Blade, Brown Linen Micarta Handles. And yes I love my Civivi Qubit. Its one my favorite knives and own the same one you have.
The Sokoke is not a neutron clone. Similarish blade shape and maybe handle but that’s where the comparisons end. The Neurton is already a very basic knife I don’t think anything can be called a clone of it in good faith.
I mean for the price this is one hell of a knife, and for a comparison take a look at Protech same aluminum handles and roughly the same class of steel with 154cm and yet protech cost atleast 2 to 3 times the cost of this one!
I have the Qubit in blue too, it’s fantastic but you made a mistake in your review. The bottle opener works just fine, the problem was the bottle you used it on, it’s a screw open bottle. These are not supposed to be opened with a bottle opener and then of course you get stuck underneath, its the bottle design not the knife. I have the Qubit, opened several bottles already and it opens on the first attempt, but you have to drink real beer I guess 😛try some German beer 🍺 it’s healthier, no chemicals and a true man’s bottle 😊 ah and no, so far absolutely no scratches on the aluminum , because the impact is really on the knife and only little pressure on the handle thus mine looks like on the first day after tons of bottles (passed it around to my friends too 😅)
Or you could get a Cold Steel Rajah 2 and get those 2010's feeling all over again... omg zombies! Never fear, 6 inch blade by 4.8mm chonk, awesome ergonomic handle.
Really nice shape but I do not like button locks I find it is too easy to release them by accident in normal use. I know of at least three instances where button locks have been depressed in use and in one they nearly cut their tendon in two. The blade looks to be a very good all around design and should work very well for most general tasks. I would really like it in an Axis style lock.
Great review as allways mate 👍🏻. It looks like a very functional modest EDC. With your love of Spyderco knives I'm surprised that you've never reviewed the SPITS M390 Titanium slipjoint (slipnotch) knife? Is it a knife that you're familiar with Pete?
I like to imagine that whenever Pete does something goofy like chow straight into an oven, it's because he's acting as a medium for the spirits of Cedric and Ada.
Truly one of the most knives ever made
Yup. Certainly seems like one of the knives of 2023.
🙄
It really seems to complete knife tasks adequately.
Out of all of them- this is one.
This knife can cut !
The zoom-in in the onion at 0:44…this is why you can’t just listen to Pete’s videos, you gotta pay attention 😂
He grew a second right hand just for those comparison shots! No other knife reviewer goes so far for their subscribers!
Pete has only ever had two right hands. True of most Australians I believe…?
This should be a template for all future knife reviews done by anyone! Especially the egg cutting test!
“That looks like a pretty low-risk review proposition” I cracked up. Hilarious. Super entertaining as always.
Best video I’ve watched all week. Laughed my arse off, then had to explain to my wife why cutting a raw egg was funny. There’s six minutes of my life gone forever.
😂 read the comment before the egg scene. I was expecting him to cut a boiled egg, without the shell.
Reminded me of Neil trying to nail the plates down in "The Young Ones."
I gave one as a gift today. I liked it enough to get another. I'm a knife a week geek.

If i had a fever dream of a knife review, this would probably come close to it.
Knives are so good these days it really comes down to ergo and fun designs. So much out there for everyone.
This is also how it used to be when there were a ton of great american knife manufacturers! There was so much good cutlery available it became more about what kind of handle scales you liked, what little gadgets you wanted on it, how many blades, etc. Bit of a golden age now for us!
Ergo and ego. Or in this case, egg'o.
It's a very knife, with so much of the things that make it knife.
It‘s so good seeing you doing more videos again! I even acquired the taste for your outlandish humour 🤣👍
Aww I just love that cutie fluffy head 😊. Talking about the cat, lol. The mental image of that Civivi cutting a raw egg will stick with me for awhile. Knife company’s should flood your mail box with knives to review from now on…..Great, honest, and yet fun review. Thx!!

Amen to the spoiled part, we live in a day of awesome steels, great designs and affordability, great vid Pete!
Good to see you back Pete!
Love the thin blade geometry. Hate the slippery smooth aluminum scales.
Pete, you need a good Vidalia onion! They're sweet, crispy, crunchy, a little oniony, and work wonderfully on sandwiches. I'm sure you have some kind of sweet onions there, by whatever name. Here in the US they're similar to WallaWalla Sweets or Georgia Sweets.
another crossover member of the onion and knife communities - we need a secret handshake
You ate that onion the second I hit that like button. Your cat wasn’t just whistling Dixie. Cool cat.
Next like goal: eat an onion but while wearing a sensible hat?
Great complement to Nick's video. 👌👍
I've always liked the hand feel of the alumeanieum handles.
There’s a lot to be said about XIII, but man the music is great. Also because of all your TRM talk lately you’ve got me waiting for an Atom drop. I already had one once, thought I hated it, but now I want another. The cycle goes on

I've been eyeballing this one. Thanks for your input.

Man, I'm really enjoying seeing your videos again. Thank you for your time and effort. I hope you enjoy making these videos as much as we enjoy seeing them!
Dr. Larrin Thomas just mentioned that’s one of his favorite steels and how geometry is more important than steel.
Holy shit that was a hard turn into the surreal. No spoilers.
Why does a knife vid have multiple camera angles?? So good!
I wish they would come out with a model with more grip. I love mine added no slip stair tape and it’s a slicing machine.
Great review as always. Please do a cutout test on civivis damascus steel.
That 🧅 part with the cat is hilarious 😂 🦉
This is my beater knife for work right now. I love it. It's a really good knife
CIVIVI's are the BEST BLADES of this Planet!!! Why they are not sending me blades!!! I LOVE CIVIVI!!!!!!!!
Oh Joe, I don't know why they don't send you one of their knives every month !😂🤣
@@tombrown4683
You know what you did 💥💥💥💥
@@destro6971 yes, sorry father!

Raw dogging an onion >> chowing down on wet bread. Carry on, Pete.
Frat hazing + knife review. Best crossover vid ever
man, I've been eyeing the civivi teton tickler too. If you did a review I could be persuaded either way. Thanks for the video!
The other day in a small town near here in a rural supply shop I saw a folding knife in a plastic clam shell packet beside some yard tools and took a closer look expecting to have a chuckle at the crapness, but was a little taken aback to see the print on the packaging advertising the D2 steel. It looks like a smaller Sencut Serene minus the flipper tab.
0:43 OMG! Is that a Beherit!?!?
Oh, it's just an onion...
I got one of these as a gift for a friend on his birthday and now I kind of want to buy one for myself :D
Still happy to use 440c for most stuff tbh. Onion skin is supposed to be the healthiest bit, if you make a tea out of it.
Nothing wrong with that steel !
I think too often people get caught up in the new alphabet soup of knife steels and they forget about the tradition and culture surrounding 440C
One of your best yet Pete, that egg cut test really caught me off guard 😆
I"ll stick with my steel will Cutjack. Carried it for 5yrs and still going strong
I usually don’t press ‘like’ before watching the video. Usually.
The Sencut Serene has similar build with different materials, curious how it would compare in cut test.
Onions are both good AND good for you. Delicious ❤
Thank you
The egg cut was brilliant 😅
The Qubit is an amazing knife. One of the very few "budget" knives in my collection that play with the big boys in my Top-25. 😉
Of all the newer knives out there, this is certainly one of them
Public Service Announcement: Pete’s cat review video is inching closer to a million views. Do your duty, watch it again.
That is truly a knife if I have ever seen one. I miss your videos and hope you jump back in game with full Mojo. 😂

Nice review. Civivi and a couple of others are turning out some good value knives now. Have you reviewed any Kubey knives? What is the sharpener you use in this video?
Was that Final Fantasy 13 music around the 3:20 minute mark? Niiiiiice.
Have you ever had any problems with activating the button lock while in use? Seems like the main downside to it, but not bad for most grips.
Another unsolicited knife another knife review. Keep 'em coming Pete !
What is the fantastic music playing during the cutting test?
I am very happy with my qubit
Looks like it passed the egg cutting test. That's a pretty good knife.
A dedicated fraction of Spyderco fans left the room around 0:55 😁
Knife AF right there.
About a year later know and my Qubit is still a great knife.
It would be nice if Worksharp would send you a ken onion belt grinder so you can easily aharpen and test your big blades, like that bent coolina cleaver
Pretty sure he has one. He used it a ton in his super old videos.
@@CNYKnifeNut not the ken onion with the grinder attachment
Uuh, those SONIC 🎵's made me smile 😊
Cats can be so cruel, but this one went above and beyond in not even permitting you to peel the onion first. So heartless! So evil! So cute!
Onion beer breath. I hope you weren't too cold sleeping on the porch that night. 😅
Back in the 70s during fraternity "Hell Week" raw onions were referred to as "Happy Apples"! And after eating a Happy Apple, one is usually forced to sleep alone.
Ok boomer .
I’d like to see a comparison of this knife against the We Knife Banter
"AL-YOU-MENI-UM scales" 😂 sorry, I love the British & Australian pronunciation of aluminum
dang right on the comparison, that’s exactly the point😂
My favorite part was when you cut things
LOL! This thing actually looks pretty sweet. Have you heard of the new mini keen? I just got the 14c28n version and it's a gem.
I like the Civivi Altus myself.
Came for the knife review, stayed for the KH and 3Houses music
now *THAT’S* a knife 🔪
I own that knife. I LOVE IT!
I experienced this video and had thoughts and now I am noting that here
This is the rewiev ever!
The egg slice made me snort.
This is, without a doubt, a knife.

So for all you "I only buy USA made stuff" guys that is exactly what you're paying for is just where it was made otherwise their quite similar 🤷♂️
Which sharpening system is that in the video?
Pete, has your Qubit’s lock failed at all?
Is this knife a better/similar option for a BM bugout?
I think they advertised the blade as a bottle opener right?
