Shutter not opening to reveal sensor. Mirror in up position prior to shutter release despite not being on live view mode. Not dropped. Low shutter count.
Hi! Just found this vid and saw the comments. Sorry to say his but I never got it repaired. I still have it somewhere but it's dead. Maybe one day I'll find the mirror box part and have a go at replacing it. Such a shame. Loved this camera!
Any update to this issue , anyone! Mine , safely stored if 5 yrs at 21k clicks has started doing something similar randomly. I can’t always get it to repeat. The mirror stays up after a shot, LiveView works ok, DOP is not stopping down, instead is cycles mirror up & down. Now when it stays up I can press the DOP button to cycle & it drips back down. Now I noticed the err message but goes away shortly. Otherwise it’s taking pix as usual minus the delay. it’s done in in outside warm to inside cool aircon. I hadn’t Tester cold yet.
It's the mirror box. Not sure how much of it needs replacing. Nikon will stop servicing the Nikon D700 in October of 2018 and have already stopped shipping parts to local camera repair shops since they are retiring service for this camera soon. Maybe find spare parts on eBay and try fixing it yourself?
@@StephBroadley Did you ever find out a fix for the D700 or did you get it repaired? My D700 started doing exactly the same a few days ago. There are no parts available for the D700 and it's either a labor only fix or time for a replacement, (my D850 is my main body and the D700 had been relegated to back up duties). Cheers, Tim

Only just seen your reply. Gutted! I wish I'd got around to sending it in but haven't. Was just filling out the repair form!

Did you figure out the problem? My camera is doing the same thing.
Bad Mirror box solenoid, does not lock the inner tensioner to hold the mirror down behind the spring; a $5 part.
@AvAr, I’m looking for replacement part mirror box solenoid, please help me locate one, where can I buy it from. Thanks
Did you ever find a Solution to this? Mine is also doing the same
