    This was interesting, and very informative! I use Windows 10 File Explorer to organize my photos, and I see that Windows 11 has streamlined this a little bit - I like those new icons at the top rather than that busy bar in W10. I haven't gotten around to upgrading to 11 yet but I'll get around to it one of these days. On your recommendation, I've also installed Mylio, which I'm still in the process of getting familiar with. I recently got a photo scanner, and I'm going through the ongoing project of scanning my photos in. I scan in about 50 at a time, then organize them, then move on to the next batch. This system has been working pretty well. My main goal at this point is to get the photos scanned and organized, and I'll worry about any editing later, if at all.

      Hi there! So fun to be greeted from Africa! : ) In Windows 11, under the View tab, you can choose Extra Large Icons, Large Icons, Medium Icons, Small Icons, etc. I think when you say thumbnail, you are meaning the smaller icons? Go to 06:07 in the video to see where that dropdown is. . . I'm hoping this makes sense!!
      Cheers from Wisconsin, USA!

    Thank you, Molly. Your videos are incredibly informative and simple to understand. I have years and thousands of images to sort through, including images that I've downloaded from my devices over the years, and stored on my home computer(s) and portable disc drives. LOL I do have one question. Do you have a suggestion for bulk converting HEIC format photos to JPG. There are a lot of online free versions that I am hesitant to use because of downloading potential viruses and malware. But I do have a lot of iPhone images saved that need converting. Please advise. Thank you.

    WHAT IF YOU DID A BAD MOVE IS THERE ANY UNDO OPTIONS TO RESTORE THE ORIGINAL SITUATION? CAN YOU UNDO MORE THAN THE LAST MOVE...LIKE IF YOU MADE SEVERAL MISTAKES BEFORE YOU DISCOVERED THE SITUATION?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  2 місяці тому

      Hi Robert - It is usually a lost cause to restore an original situation unless you have it backed up somewhere somehow. Sometimes you can Control-Z to undo the last few actions and sometimes that doesn't work. We've had a few issues where we've lost a lot of work on a computer by quickly cutting and pasting. We do back up our work every night so that we can recover the majority of our work done. I am crossing my fingers you might have a backup.
      Sincerely,
      Mollie

    How do you reorder pictures within the same folder?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  Місяць тому

      Hi Ed - in Windows File Explorer, there are several sorting options available which I am thinking you have seen. If you want to physically change the order of the pictures in a different way, you'll need to use a separate program or rename the photos in the order you want them to be in. We like to use Adobe Bridge for re-organizing and renaming photos. Here's a video which shows a little bit about it:
      ua-cam.com/video/Vx9ORQyihL8/v-deo.htmlsi=XHwc2jNPwthZjQY9
      You can rearrange the photos, then batch rename to get them in the order you want. I'm hoping this helps!
      Cheers!

    Hello
    on my windows 11 when i right click on the bar nothing happens so do you know another way I can fine Date Taken even when i clickk more the box do not pop up.. is there another way i can reteive it?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  2 місяці тому

      Hi Mr. Admb - that is very odd. Are you sure you are right clicking on the right area?
      Alternatively, you can look at the photo's properties to see the Date Taken and change it. Right click on the photo to see the properties. Or. . . turn on the details view to see the properties in the details view when you have selected a photo or photos.
      Hope this helps!

    My challenge is re-ordering photos in a file, in windows 11 file explorer. Is adding a number at the beginning of a file name the only way? Google Drive and photos lets you drag photos to any order. MB

      Hi there - I use Adobe Bridge to move photos around and rename them. . . Check this video out: ua-cam.com/video/Vx9ORQyihL8/v-deo.htmlsi=H61vrzOoBrduZCF5

    Your video was very informative. The one thing I am having trouble finding is how to rearrange photos within a folder. I am trying to make a slideshow of a trip made with friends and can't get them arranged in event sequence. Is it not possible in Windows 11 Photos?

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi - have you added the date taken column? And, then sort by date taken? This is assuming the photo metadata is correct.
      Sometimes, we use Adobe Bridge to rearrange photos and then rename them in order. Here's a video on that:
      ua-cam.com/video/Vx9ORQyihL8/v-deo.htmlsi=jC4JxEOTsyOlS_qh
      How are you making the slideshow?

      @@Pixologie Yes I added the date taken column and then sorted by date taken. There are many without a date which I think are some of the ones I received from my friends.
      In going through the above video again I noticed that while in the detail pane and hovering my cursor over the dates I do not get the box like what is shown on your video, so I was not able to change the date or time. In Pictures I can change it but doing so doesn't seem to rearrange the picture, just changes the date and/or time.
      I was wanting to use the Slideshow feature to show friends our trip but it was a very disconnected presentation of our adventures.
      I watched the link. I have sort of done that kind of labeling to organize pictures but I think I'll try to use your formula which is more precise.
      Thank you for your helpful, easy to follow videos....just wish our personal computers followed what you are showing.

    In addition to organizing and labeling pictures in folders/directories, I would like to label each individual picture with its own title. However, many times there are groups of pictures within the folder that can have the same title, but other groups in the folder that would have a slightly different title. For example: photos from a vacation in a region, but groups of photos are on different dates and in different specific locations. I would like the specifics in their titles, but I would like to avoid having to title each picture individually (too time consuming) and I would like to maintain the chronological sequence. For example: 4 pictures, same folder, different titles - DSCF6688_20240627_BVI_The Indians near Pelican Island_Snorkeling, DSCF6689_20240627_BVI_The Indians near Pelican Island_Snorkeling, DSCF6690_20240628_BVI_Peter Island_Great Harbor kayaking_Key Bay Anchorage, DSCF6691_20240628_BVI_Peter Island_Great Harbor kayaking_Key Bay Anchorage. How can I label/title groups of pictures like this while maintaining their chronological order? The main question is how do I label/title groups of pictures with the same title without having to do each separately? There were many more pictures, but I just used 4 to illustrate what I am talking about. In this case I kept the camera's code at the start of the title to maintain the chronological order.

      Hi there - I can appreciate wanting to have the detail for your photos. I have generally taught to leave the digital photo date alone because it is so timeconsuming. In addition, files with very long names can complicate your folder structure/backup, etc.
      Usually, I teach to add the description to the Comments/Description metadata field. Here's a video about metadata: ua-cam.com/video/bjTblut2wIQ/v-deo.htmlsi=i3a8HzuZz__WJHH7
      If you do want to change the names of photos individually like this, Adobe Bridge has a great bulk renaming feature as well as options for renaming single photos. Here's a quick tutorial of the program:

    Thank you for your videos. I'm going through the process of scanning some old photos. I do have a question on tagging. I wonder if it would be a video you could do. Firstly if I find a name I've tagged being suggested a few ways because I've made a spelling error or used both maiden and married surnames how can I edit this? My other question is how do you actually search for tag? I tried and sometimes it only brings up folders including that name. How do you make I include files and can you search two tags together to find photos of couples for example? Apologise if you have this is a previous video. If so could you point me to it. Thank you. Xx

My hubby and I share a PC and its his Microsoft account so I didn't want to mix up our family photos with his work photos and one drive storage? Is there away around that? I'm guessing it would be to pay for my own Microsoft storage account?
      Manty thanks for your reply. Will look forward to the tagging video.

    I am using windows 11 and need a way to reduce the file sizes that are 6mb for each photo as a result of using a particular scanning company. I can see some of your scans are less than 200kb. I may keep the originals at the larger sizes on my laptop, but I will run out of storage in Forever pretty quickly. I'd like to know if you think it's a good idea and what would you do and how to do it. Thanks.

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  Рік тому +2

      Hi Mary - Thanks for watching! Some of my scans were done many years ago and the file sizes are less than ideal. I recommend that people have photos between 1 and 4mb for preservation purposes.
      If you wish to reduce the files sizes, you could use Adobe Bridge (may require a subscription) or here's a software from XNView - called XNResize. I have not tested this but we routinely recommend XNView for batch renaming and converting photos.

    • @Pixologie
      @Pixologie  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi Audra - When in File Explorer, select the Details view. Then add the Rating column. (Right click on the details row headers and you should see Rating.) Then you can click on the Rating column to sort by rating. Unfortunately, you cannot add ratings anymore.
      From Microsoft's Website: Windows 11 can no longer rate files, and you may need to find new ways to categorize your files. Unfortunately, it has affected your usage habits, but we cannot provide a solution at this time.
      Very frustrating. I wish I could be of more help. I upload my photos to Forever.com and then use the heart to favorite my photos there. Here's a page to learn more about the company and why we sell it at Pixologie: www.thepixplan.com/FOREVER-Permanent-Storage

    • @startbline
      @startbline 8 місяців тому

      I took them with my camera Sony DHC H50. Problem is they were fine when I loaded them into my computer several years ago. Now they are extremely pixilated when viewing them at a normal size in Photos on Windows 11. When I try to print them they turn into very clear thumbnail size photos. I don't know what I did or didn't do for them to be this way. Now that I am retired I wanted to get busy sorting and printing....Grandkids and special occasions. It's driving me crazy. I haven't worked with photos since early on Windows 10 so I'm really out of practice, hence your videos, maybe my age is catching up to me because I used to understand things better and finding answers was much easier🤨@@Pixologie
