There's just something about doing and controlling such a big machine all by yourself! The shifting, using the retarder,... no computers nothing, just a pure harmony between human and machine. :)
Thank you for great video - very entertaining. Good shifting and get to hear music from 14 liter V-8. I wish we had Scania V-8 here in Canada Really love the sound of the turbo spooling down every time you shift. I hope you get to do a video of you climbing a hill and then have do downshift to lower gears and have foot on the floor to hold the engine - that would be great to see shifting and hear engine hold 1400 under load, full turbo.
Double clutching can still be performed although not necessary, but the sound is even better. I was always using because I've learned this in driving school in the early 70s.

All Scania of that era do have simple exhaust brakes. To advoid wear on engine components they are set up at very low braking power even on the big V8 engines. Scania´s philosophy was, that costumers, which wanted additional braking power for runs over mountainous terrain, should by a additional hydrodynamic retarder bolted on the rear of the gearbox. The Mack E-series (with Mack V8 engine) comes close to a Scania V8 in sound.
True, though the Mack v8 is deeper in sound much like the Mack Granite.

How many speed transmission? Does it equipped with synchromesh? Didn't see you double clutching.
It´s a Scania GRS900 12+2 Speed gearbox. All gears exept the two crawlers are synchromesh.

A rookie question: Do scanias have exhaust brake or engine brake

@@Scaniatom ahhh ohk so on the new ones do they have better engine brakes or just the same retarder philosophy
Newer ones have so called intarders. We've got Telma brakes behind the gearbox on the 142.
