Found you through clutter bug. The timing is a God send. My dad is 85 and slowing down, step mom has dementia, hubby is becoming disabled due to health, and I am the church's secretary treasurer worship leader Sunday school teacher, all while homeschooling my two (of 9) children who are still minors. I'm pretty organized all ready but need to tune things up. Oh, and I have written several books and am working on at least three more.

I am a retired teacher. Now I have care of my mom’s affairs. I also have a husband and our home to keep. Most organizing help is for young moms.

Thank you for this explanation! I found you thru The Minimal Mom, saw another of your you tubes videos but Now it dawned on me that this system Is Not Just for organizing your mail (that's how I have been using it, and have to say it was working well!). Now I understand that this system helps to organize EVERYTHING in your life,, what a Game changer! OK, I am kind of overwhelmed right now with that thought, however I see how well it worked on me getting my mail process organized, I am willing to give if a try. Thank you for sharing!

    Help!
6 years ago, I was suddenly widowed after 41 years of marriage. 3 years ago, after having an estate sale, I sold my home and moved into an apartment. 1 year ago, my 102 year old mother in law moved in with me and passed away just 2 weeks later. 5 months ago, just a few days before Christmas 2020, my adult son died suddenly.
In addition to dealing with grief, depression and anxiety, I also have Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and I’m facing what seems like a mountain of unpacked boxes to still sort through.
Old and current paperwork is what weighs on me most. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve started sorting through it, but after a few hours, I’m exhausted. So I box it up, fully intending to get back to it the next day. Then my ADD kicks in, and I’m off in another direction. By the time I get back to sorting paperwork, it feels like I’m starting all over again and I get stuck, feeling utterly
    overwhelmed.

D, i hope you are doing better now. I can relate to loosing a loved one. 2017 I lost my Mom, I do not have a dad in my life, so she was my everything. My belongings doubled. How do I part with my mothers things. Then it spiraled and since I lost control of my home in many ways while dealing with all the belongings, grief, guilt, depression and anxiety.

@@TheDISSHonoredOne So sorry for what you’re going through. Wish I could help by saying I’m doing better, but honestly, I’m still on an emotional roller coaster. I saw my counselor today & it was tough. Lots of emotions came up & tears fell. Afterward I felt drained of any ambition or motivation. In the meantime, I’m still surrounded by stacks of papers to Bo through & make decisions on. All I want to do is sit in my comfy chair, read, watch movies, & do a little of this & that if I pass by it & it doesn’t take long. The good news is, I know it will get better, so I keep trying to make some bit of forward progress each day, no matter how small. I wish you all the best in healing your heart & emotions so you can once again feel happy.

Hi it helps people who have ADD / ADHD to work on things while they talk on the phone with someone. Or have someone sit in the room with them, it's called having a "body double." Google it. It helps our brain somehow.
I would try doing this with you if you want to.

But I went through breast cancer treatment during covid and have since been put on disability and my husband has retired, so I will try to do this myself as I can't afford to buy this. Thank you for sharing this information. I have been struggling with depression with my cancer treatment and my home has suffered greatly since. This plan gives me hope 😊

I'm currently working on having a fully organized house. We recently moved and my goal is for everything in this house to have a specific place. I am tired of buying things we already have that we can't find. The fridge and meal planning is the least organized part of my life.

I'm 63 and have been on disability since 2002. Boxes and boxes, and shall I say more. Yes, there is Medicare, supplemental insurance, and the good ole' Part D Drug plan. Forgot Dr. Visits. I need the training to move to digital. I have been more than overwhelmed since 2015. Takes a lot longer to get things done with my ADHD brain.

This. I have a non verbal son and the paperwork is out of control-the government drowns you in paper. It’s scary especially if you are already dealing with a disability. This is next level filing with huge consequences if you don’t do it right-light facing homelessness if you lose the wrong paper. It keeps you in constant concern. No sleep, out of spoons, out of money-it’s really really really hard. I was a high end hairdresser prior-I want to go back to school for trauma therapy. I’m not a stranger to systems. It’s a whole thing. Truly.

Current mail should not be mixed with deveased fsmily members papers. Separate. Deal with each on a different day. Spend 20-30 minutes only on current mail for you. If you need 2 or 3 x a week for your current mail, do that. Keep yourself cuaght up first. Then set aside only 1 hour at a time to sort and purge the other people.

Your bank offers Bill Payer. Online banking. You setup each bill company. and then you can schedule the bank to send them your payment. Via your online bank section. You can change the value each month, and set up one time payment or set it as recurring for 4 months on the x day of each month. That's one, very helpful way to use online or digital tools. No need to keep every paper bill for more than 60 days. Just long enough for the next statement to confirm it processed by bank and company. Then shred or toss.

Jump to 16 minutes.... just past all her examples of lost mail, forgotten bills or errands, how family and work keep adding items to your "to do list"... you are outnumbered! Have a plan for your day. 3 priorities. Be realistic, can't sort all paper in a day. Plan 30 minutes only to start. Set the boundary.. stay on task!
