  • Learn Japanese at the Japan Society Language Center!
    For more than 30 years the Japan Society has provided Japanese language education of all levels.
    Today, the Language Center offers 12 comprehensive levels of Japanese, as well as a variety of specialized courses and workshops including shodō (Japanese calligraphy), while also catering to native Japanese speakers by providing four levels of English conversation (ESL) classes and a Japanese Language Teacher Training Program. Classes are taught throughout the year, with semesters in the Spring and Fall as well as shorter, intensive courses at various times. Please visit us for more information and class schedules.
    This introductory sample lesson covers eight basic greetings:
    Good Morning - Ohayou (casual) gozaimasu (formal)
    Good Afternoon - Konnichiwa
    Good Evening - Konbanwa
    Goodbye - Sayounara
    Goodnight - Oyasumi nasai
    Thank You - Arigatou (casual) gozaimasu (formal)
    Excuse me, I'm sorry - Sumimasen
    How do you do (nice to meet you) - Hajimemashite, dozo yoroshiku

      Ye this is what I felt. Feels like you are there, just like our teachers would be in front of class.
      It makes you really feel you're taking part. Like this style of learning. Doesnt need all the other fancy stuff.

      +Gabriel Iobagiu the greatest results that I have had was by using the Japanese Magic Method (i found it on google) without a doubt the best info that I've tried.

    I am a South Indian and I love learning languages.
    I was looking for one that is easy to understand and I found this to be really helpful.
    Best part is I got so excited that I started clapping for myself, when I guessed few words correctly because of the japanese drama series I have been watching and my 4 year old girl started laughing at me and then she joined me too 😂
    Getting crazy with learning Japanese.

      Diosep I’m here kinda cuz of anime, (but I’ve done this with another show that wasn’t in English, but it was Portuguese and idk it didn’t end up as interesting to me) but I was bored and on Duolingo and the letter system and stuff and the language actually interested me and I like being able to read a bunch of symbols that I used to have no idea what the heck they meant lol. Duolingo isn’t great for listening and I probably bad at speaking literally anything cuz I only whisper pronounce then forget lol

      I’m here because I want to learn the language. I have family members that only speak Japanese, and it’s a bit annoying. Especially since my mom can speak it, but I can’t. Currently I’m looking into taking lessons. Originally I was actually going to move to Japan, but now I just think it’s best if i stay in the United States. Also I think that it is just cool to learn a new language... 😅

      I plan to move to Japan. I love the food, the culture, and cute little things they sell and such. I've been planning for about a month now and I decided to learn japanese young. That way I'll be extremely good when I move. I'm 14 right now. I plan to either do college there or here in the U.S, move to japan, find a well paying job that I enjoy, eventually convince a friend to move into an apartment with me, marry, move into a bigger apartment, raise a family and then travel the world. I know it's a lot to plan at such a young age but I feel that if you plan years before something you actually are devoted to it and stick to it.

    Heres some tips that helped me. (I learned these by heart within a day)
    1. Write these down. English phrase---> Japanese phrase.
    2. Repeat them to yourself and quiz yourself
    3. Tell them to a parent or friend, and have a SMALL conversation like have your mom or whatever say "how do you do" in japanese and reply with "goodnight" in Japanese. It's funny, and seems stupid but it genuinely helped me a lot.

    I am Japanese.
    I don't usually use "douzo yoroshiku (どうぞよろしく)". If the person you are talking to is the same age as you, you should say "yoroshikune(よろしくね)". If the person you are talking to is older than you or in a work situation, you should use "yoroshiku onegai shimasu(よろしくおねがいします)".

      して & しく are written (shi-te) and (shi-ku), but they're pronounced without the _i_ , so that's why i've written (shte & shku)
      Dō is like door but without the *r* think of british accent that pronounce waté, and mō instead of water and more.

      +Josie Alyvia Yeah I wish to visit Japan so I can see it with my own eyes, not interested in moving there at the moment (I don't think I have any special skill to be able to get a reasonable job there, otherwise why not :P ) but I would love to stay there for a long holiday (more than 2 weeks) and be able to interact with locals at least at a basic level.

    This lady is a great teacher, I didn't even have to rewind the video to better understand the sounds of the words and how to pronounce them over and over. In the first watch through her voice was clear and her short exercises were just enough to help me understand and mimic the words. ARDIGATO!
