What i like most about the Katana is the ability to download patches to the Amp, the .tsl files that people have created, makes life so easy going to the boss tone studio too.
Love that you demoed it with the camera mic - it sounded so authentic compared to so many of the close-mic’d reviews that always come across as somewhat sterile. Great playing and passion too! Thank you for uploading that 👍🏼
Totally agree, i wanna hear it like i was in the room, some over produced videos give you a totally diferent sound to what you would hear if you were there. In my opinion the Boss Katana is the biggest bang for you buck you could buy as i guitarist.

I think one reason you like these is there are tons of vastly different tones in a single amp. Most iconic amps have a good clean and good distorted/overdriven sound.
I had version 2 for about 2 days, it went back. I’m still yet to be convinced on these. I watch to support you and your channel, regardless of content.
Im planning to get the 100 combo ( due to it having fx loop and you can the use GA FS Ex . ) Dave your reviews are the only ones i trust. That pushed amp setting sold me.

I got my MkII 100 based largely on the testimonal and videos that you did (not _just_ you, but mainly yours). I *love* my Katana, it has been a far more significant guitar purchase for me than any of my actual guitars or outboard pedals; the first time I just played my fairly mediocre LH Peavey Exp through it clean, at volume, was a life-changing experience and made me completely re-evaluate my guitar itself, and my playing. They're great amps, especially if you get the Librarian or the Android app and dig into the settings a little. This is a great demo, loved it. You would have sold me on a Gen 3 if I didn't have a 12-month old Mk II 🙂
Sounds great . An effects loop and slightly bigger enclosure would have made it even better , but in your exquisite hands , it sounds incredible Dave . ❤

The Katana amps are and always have been analog. The preamp circuit is a mosfet solid state, which is analog. The modulation and reverb effects are digital, but that's it.
I have a Katana 100 mk2. It is my go to gigging amp for all sizes of venue. Weight, ease of use, TONE, flexibility. It has it all. Sold my Vox AC15 Hardwired and Fender Blues Junior...... Don't need them. If this Gen 3 is an improvement I'll be amazed. Great demo btw.
This video is a fine example of why Boss want to send you products from the Katana range. I don't need a Katana guitar amp (I mostly play bass*, and occasionally mess around on acoustic and electric guitars, and the things with 6 strings only get played at home). Having watched this video, I want an amp that I don't need, despite being fully aware that it won't make me sound like Dave Simpson. It's not just the excellence of the playing (a given with your good self), it's the range of great tones that you're able to get in a short period of time. When you do your more extended test, I'd be interested in seeing how it behaves in one of the low-power settings (i.e. does it sounds good at volumes which won't upset the neighbours?). *My current bass amp of choice is a Katana; it's great for sessions in rehearsal rooms, it loves the small number of pedals I feed into it, and the 1-watt setting means I can plug in at home without getting tangled up in headphone cables.

I sold my Katana a couple of years back - and while its not a deep regret, its defo something I do regret selling (I have an awesome fender champ clone that fills the gap). Hearing the pushed and the crunch (again) - I need to get a mk3 at some stage and that really is all the amp I need (especially paired with my multi fx anyway). I say it a lot but the Katana has the absolute best power options (0.5 to Xw, master, volume gain, headphones). I think I just get a MK3 and call it done on amps - I much better understand the sounds I want, and more importantly, how to construct them via different options - I did not understand either part of that the first time around with my run with the Katana (still loved it). I am loving that pushed channel though. I play 95% of my time in 3 settings (essentially pushed, crunch and fuzz) with reverb and trem - the Katana can do it all for quite frankly a great price. Yeah I think I'll get one this year.

Another great review Dave. I just got a hold of the Kat 50 G3, and it is really one of the best little amps out there. The Mk1 version was very gig worthy and I expect the G3 to carry on the tradition.

I think all these cheap solid state and modelling amps over the years have sounded great when demoed by Dave (whether it's the Katana, the Marshall MG, the Orange Crush or whatever else) because he's such a great player.
I'm tempted. I was thinking of getting the Katana Artist this time around but all of them have had a price hike over GEN 2. I will await your review of the GEN 3 Katana Artist before making my decision. Good vid BTW!
Sounds f#%king great! What else does anyone need? (Besides the ears, passion & technique) The sounds are all there, its up to the player to play. Solid tools for musicians is what Boss always seems to be.

I bought one of the 1st gen 50 watt Katanas. Thought it sounded flat, sterile, and boxy… and returned it. I was comparing it only to a Fender Princeton Chorus, not a boutique tube amp. Maybe things have changed but it sure sounds good here. Although I suspect you could make a milk crate sing.

The Roland Micro cube is an amp I use a lot.., but when I want to get busy, I plug into a Katana.

Let me know what you think if you do get a Katana and compare it to the DSL. I would say a DSL1 Head with 1x12 Greenback beats a Katana by a mile
