In this beefy tutorial, we're hittin' the streets to capture a bunch of massive concrete textures, not like those whimpy ones around the net. I'm talking about huge dam walls, endless drainage ditches, and epic bridges.
Once we've captured our images, we'll stitch them together in Photoshop, process normal maps, specular maps and roughness maps, then organize everything in Quizel Bridge. Let's go!

I've enjoyed his appearances on past Corridor Crew videos, and I was really hopeful for him when he dedicated himself to his new channel. Up to this point, his content has been interesting but so long and uncut, but this video right here was everything I dreamed he would start making. Very knowledgeable, great video editing quality, and incredibly interesting to follow. This right here has made me a closer follower on this channel, without a doubt.

Back in 2014 while I still work with Codemasters on the Dirt, F1, and Grid franchise, we use this technique on texturing when making the race track.
However back then Photoshop doesn't have a build-in normal generator we used either xnormal or Nvidia photoshop plugin to generate normal.
Ghosh, I miss this technique but it is getting obsolete in the game industry due to 'Procedural Texturing' and 'Megascan'.

Honestly procedural texturing still falls behind photo-made assets. They don't look as authentic because they don't have the slight imperfections IRL objects have
Edit: I think it's even better for performance, since all the detail is baked into the image, so the hardware spends less time rendering the texture image

Amazingly in-depth and comprehensible. Only having just started learning Blender, most of this stuff is slightly beyond me, but not for long. All of this was understandable, even without knowing all the specific tools or terms. You use very clear language thats perfect for all skill levels. Also bonus points to the editor. The ambient music when the live footage section ended was so complimentary that I didnt even realize it was there til a YT ad interrupted it.

I've been a Photoshop Master (in this sense, I know every hotkey, know every function, every trick, etc) AND a 3d Environment artist for years and years, and I always hated not being able to get that *perfect* texture. I would find other textures, combine, edit, etc, but I had no idea I could use my DSLR to capture, stitch, and create my own textures in this way. I see textures in real life that would be perfect all the time, and wished there was some way to capture them. This is a fantastic video, and teaches something that's uncommon, but so painfully useful (Yeah yeah, I know.. just use Quixel, but originality is still a thing). Kudos on the video, and thank you for sharing your time with us.
