Encaustic Scroll- a Wax Paper Mark Making Experiment

- When the idea of an encaustic scroll first came to me, I couldn't resist trying it. This is a work in progress, and I have some ideas for wooden inserts to wrap the scroll around when everything is done, but so far this wax paper mark making experiment has been really fun and interesting!

I hope you enjoy this encaustic scroll as much as I have so far. I'm excited to give you updates, because this is a piece I can work on even without my studio.
I really enjoy these mixed media art projects as opposed to more traditional encaustic paintings. I'm not sure how to display them or share them or sell them, but they are so interesting and each new project stretches my mind in new, creative ways.

Love it! I may have to try this! I found a complete pack of register tape in a thrift store. They often have art/craft section in the store. Never know what you'll find!

Thank you for sharing this idea!! It really demonstrates how many ways encaustic wax can be incorporated into mixed media art and I love the black, white, and touches of gold. The timelessness of the writing on a scroll along with the use of wax and ink is reminiscent of ancient times.

ThX for sharing your process! I wonder how this would have looked with the inking and stamping first before the encaustic paint.
Probably pretty similar, though depending on the paper and the ink it might bleed through the paper a bit.

I'm not done yet. This past year has been crazy trying to sell our house. I'm really missing working on it!!

Your comment made me smile. Not much, I guess. I am planning on making some wooden staves to wrap the scroll around, but it's just a fun art project. I'll put it on my shelf or maybe in a cloche.
