There are mounting reports that Electronic Arts is about to announce some sort of Dead Space remake, with the leading suggestion being a reimagining of the original game.
As someone who loves Dead Space, I should be happy about this news, but my apathy is palpable. I am not interested in EA's Dead Space, not after EA drove the series into the dirt and killed the original studio.
This isn't Dead Space. This is EA's Dead Space, and even if it's good, I want nothing to do with the company's opportunism.

I still remember the youtube vid bout how the guy in charge NEEDED the tentacle drag scene in the first dead space and went to ridiculous lengths to make it happen. That was some of the ridiculous passion and potential and passion visceral showed for dead space...I doubt we're gonna get that again and actively dread whatever little shit we gonna get instead.

@@soulschism6400 Yeah that too. I am looking forward to that. Apparently it is set in a pubg universe (whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean)
Is that what happened? Dang, I actually thought that was a neat little part in the game by itself. Certainly took me off guard when it first happened.
Knowing that EA is looking to redo this whole thing, I doubt we're going to get that much passion. Not unless the original team, or at least most of it is involved.

It was the greed of said publisher
It turns out the **real** horror was the friends we lost along the way.
I tend to agree. EA is an abomination and screwed over Dead Space hard and Visceral. I can't say I'm not happy about a remake as it seems interesting to me but really, whats to be done? Apart from Negative Atmosphere being worked on
I guess we could just not buy it as mentioned lol
I hope Negative Atmosphere and Callisto Protocol turn out well and you'll still be around to explain the biology of all the creatures
When RG says it then it's a "OH NO" moment.
It's Like we all want a dead space 4, but we may get a dead space remake they may or may not put politics in.
And not pay the original team or hire them back for this.
So many things wrong with this new dead space game that it's not funny.

He nails this point. EA literally fucked the potential for this game... 2 didn't need huge PR and marketing as the first game was so well received. Such a shame
The Callisto Protocol is the new Dead Space.
Dead Space is... Well, dead.
No.
Prepare for a generation full of remakes of games that are perfectly playable in their original form. Fuck these remakes. Give me exciting new experiences.
The main reason to play remakes is technical issues or console exclusivity. In this case, it's still a pretty damn old game, but it can be fixed.
What I'd really care about having remade is stuff that was exclusive, like the Ratchet and Clank Future series on PS3.
@@FelisImpurrator Those are still perfectly playable in their original form, and they'd still be exclusive if they were remade. If they want to remake something, they could remake the PS2 titles - properly this time, not that garbage "LOL we made Drek an idiot and replaced him with Nefarious in the final act" remake from 2016.

So is EA a brethren moon?
Didn't EA start that new game pass thing to try and kill second hand markets? Where you either bought the game new or had content locked off like the Cerberus Network in ME2 unless you the buy a fresh pass from them to unlock it again?
Yep. The online pass. You needed it to play mass effect 3, battlefield 3, dead space 2, and a couple other games online. If you bought the game second hand you needed to pay $10 to play the game online.
Yup. And don’t forget how they’d also pull shady shit like cutting day one content into preorder bonuses that were later sold for day one DLC. The ME3: From Ashes nonsense comes to mind where, if you wanted a character they clearly wrote to be integral to the lore development of ME3, you either had to preorder from certain retailers or pay extra for at release.
Yep because Gamestop was exploiting the used game market at the time. Of course, instead of trying to deal with Gamestop directly, EA decided to punish any consumers shopping there because it's always the consumer's fault. >.> And of course other AAA publishers at the time copied that practice. At least the practice died within a few years.
I could be wrong, but I think that may have originally been a Ubisoft thing, but that just might be because the first game where I noticed it was AC3 when I couldn't play multiplayer because I chose to rent it instead of buy it.
Yep, but to their credit (what little they're permitted) they did reverse that down the line and all "EA Pass" content got added as free DLC. I remember it with Alice Madness Returns
As always, there’s a tonne of comments from people who don’t realise that:
1) The Jimquisition has always drawn attention to the awful practices of the games industry. This seems to be perceived as perpetual negativity, but there’s other great series’ on this channel if hearing about the how the actual games industry functions isn’t for you.
and
2) That their anger would be better served being directed at the people responsible for shitty practices. Not at JSS for reporting on it. This channel has been putting out absolute quality content every week, without fail, for years.
Older Jimquisitions used to highlight the practices of these shitty companies with humour and wit, prodding people to make up their own minds. Recent ones however have a definite streak of nastiness in them and often come across as if they are lecturing the viewer as to what they should think.
So yes the Jimquisition has always drawn attention to the awful practices of the gaming industry. It's just to me the tone of how it does that has very much changed.

Well, these comments didn't age well..
My favourite thing about the wreck that was micro-transactions in Dead Space 3 was a special bug and the reaction to it. EA were doing the standard gamer squeeze where they did let you have crafting components but not a lot so why not just pay them more money for more components? Except there was a bug involving a door that respawned components or something so you could get Unlimited Crafting!!! EA was obviously not happy about this and it caused enough of a stir to get onto the BBC News Website. Who, in their infinite wisdom, managed to dig up some dusty economics academic that was told a short bit about the situation while half asleep or something and came out with the amazing take: "Well if they're abusing the game to get something that they'd otherwise have to pay for then in my opinion that's stealing!"
Triple A Game Industry: "Why would we want a reliable dollar every year for decades, when we could mangle the product forever and get three dollars right now?"
This dead space thing is capitalism in a nutshell. Take a creative idea, exploit the people who made it, undermine it to be more commercial, "more profitable". Once it has lost its appeal, take it away from the original creators and bury it. Then later revive it and farm it out to someone else.
And you just know it's gonna be terrible, too.

That's the reality of the 'capitalism drives innovation' myth.
@@andarted It _does_ drive innovation. True, it drives it straight into the ground in a spectacular, life-destroying crash, but capitalism _is_ definitely the driving force behind that.
@Cripple Ninja I'm having a hard time telling the difference, apart from one being administered with a jackboot, and the other by "you will own nothing and be happy".
Gaming is built on capitalism though, Nintendo didn't get in this industry as a charity act. It's bizarre to love gaming yet hate capitalism.

I'm somewhat hopeful after The Last Jedi and ME:LE. Obviously if the name EA is on a multiplayer game, its going to be ruined very fast, but they do seem to be pouring serious resources in singleplayer games now
There's a certain grim ironic amusement to knowing that EA's corporate necromancers will raise Dead Space as a soulless, shambling, undead parody of the franchise, something more truly disturbing than anything they could dream up as monsters in their games...

There’s a horror franchise company called Project Moon, which focuses on a series with no name as of yet with two games out called Lobotomy Corp and Library of Ruina. The first is SCP meets Zoo Tycoon, ish. You have to deal with rampaging monsters, bizarre infectious entities, etc.
While the latter is a card battle game, the excellent writing, awesomely drawn cutscenes, well written characters, and chilling horror make it still a very game to play. It wasn't a great game, but playing it with someone else made it worth the sale price I got it for.
But hey, at least you don't get raped in that one, unlike 2.
@@IceKarma The co-op character was so much fun that I don't hate Fear 3. That character's attitude, gameplay, etc. was so damn fun it should have been what the whole game was built around. Without that character, it's complete trash.
There is only one redeemable way to do this:
1.Hire the people that created Dead Space
2. Finish the story those people tried to tell.
3. Don't do the usual interfering and let them make a horror game.
Dead Space 3 could have been great. The co-op made it unscary, and if you wanted the whole story you HAVE to play it as co-op, where you will probably not actually pay attention to said story.
The pay to win was utterly tone deaf:
It's supposed to be a resource scarce horror survival; and they SELL resources and better guns.
That's like wanting to climb a mountain and a company asking if you want to flown to the top with a helicopter.
At least they set up the finale of the Dead Space story.
A conclusion we fans will never, ever get.
Im definitely interested in what comes of the reboot, but the chances of me spending money on it are beyond non-existent (Arr!). Im much more interested in giving my money to Callisto Protocol, since that has you know....the actual people who made Dead Space working on it
Callisto Protocol you say? Thank you for the heads up. I am off to google that.
Glenn Schofield, who worked on the original Dead Space (I believe as creative lead or director) is heading up Callisto Protocol. It basically looks like Dead Space in the PUBG universe (whatever the hell that is). Trailer looks *very* promising

I have been boycotting and pirating EA games for about a decade now. How they treated Bioware and fans of Mass Effect around the release third game was the start of me no longer buying anything from EA.
I've been boycotting the since Starforce (DRM)
The joy I receive knowing I'm pirating a scammed game that took those poor developers a really long time to make, just so the corp can suck the life out of it and try to get as much money as possible from the consumer. Ahhhh yesss zero money is what they get and it feels glorious.
There is nearly no reason to boycot EA. I mean in order to boycot them i need to be intereeted in the first place. There haven't been many good EA games - so very easy to not buy anything EA realated.
Bought Fallen Order under 20 bucks though. It was good but not very good.
Soooo, uhhhhh... Hypothetically... If a person wanted to investigate such places to find these games, where would one have to look? If, like, y'know, they just wanted to see what those websites looked like? So they knew how to avoid them in future?
Of course, not for piracy. That'd be totally and completely immoral!!!
@@smogstreaming You definitely shouldn't search -redacted- at all into google, it's just a place where users share files but definitely not games.
Everyone is taking about Dead Space hoping EA does good, all while Respawn Entertainment is hoping to hush up the hackers pushing for Titanfall fixes
I just want them to NOT REQUIRE ORIGIN for Titanfall 2 on Steam, cause every time I install Origin it tries to brick my PC. I don't need it for Apex Legends, so stop making me need it for fucking Titanfall 1 or 2.
I look forward to the news that EA has reopened Visceral, rehired every available employee they left out in the cold, AND given them full backpay, the ONLY news that would ever entice me to give even the slightest of a damn about any sort of Dead Space reboot...
I never knew much about Dead Space but I can easily understand why this is such a big problem.
If some scumbag corporation took a thing you loved, smashed it into pieces, pulled their pants down and took a hard piss on it; then years later, shovel up the dusty remains, shoddily put it back together with cheap duct tape and nasty-ass smelling glue, and has the balls to charge you money every 20 minutes of using it...
Would you be grateful they bothered giving it back to you in the first place?
My friends just plan on torrenting it when it comes out. We don't want to give EA money. In 2022 though glen schofield, the man behind dead space, has his own game coming out called callisto protocol. So we can all look forward to that
Place your bets! How many microtransactions can EA stuff into Dead Space 1? The answer may surprise you!
$2.99 for choosing a different RGB color of the suit hud. $9.99 for a different suit color. $4.99 for weapon color. Then there the pay2win stuff. There! Don’t even need to work for EA to make a good list! Also I’m conservative on the pricing I think :(
The answer is yes. Like, all of it.
How many microtransactions were in Jedi Fallen Order?

Dead Space needs no fucking remake. It is a X360/PS3 game, not a PS1 like RE2 or RE3. Remaking Dead Space is almost as dumb as remaking TLoU.
The hat and the hat/goggle combination are both FABULOUS!
Some of Stephs vids should just be titled " and the sky is blue"
"Do you remember FEAR 3?"
Damn you sterling I tried to forget 😭😭😭
The fact that people have been complaining about Jim having "changed" and being too "political" (read: talking about and being LGBTQ+), this episode is tonally identical to episodes from *years* ago. You could travel back in time, release this video and (aside from the topic being from the future) no one would be any the wiser. If you think Jim has changed, they haven't, you're just a bigot.
Hbomber made a video that's I think at least 4 years old now on Fallout New Vegas and there's a small comment he makes in the grander video that I still think about to this day. I don't remember the exact quote verbatim, but essentially when people complain about politics in gaming (and games in general) they're often complaining not about the politics being present, but it not being the 'right' kind of politics. "If it doesn't validate my preconceived and narrow views, I don't want to see it."
Same concept here, really.
I mean... anyone that has been following Jim on social media for at least a year and has watched some of his videos shouldn't be the least bit tad surprise, honestly
gamers getting mad that their games are shit because of a economic ideology but get mad if you bring it up lmfao
Exactly. I wasn't very interested in a few of the videos Jim made lately. But this one and the the new squirty plays I really enjoyed.
I mean I would argue Jim has become more stylized in their videos, but that was because the old commercials at the start irrationally annoyed me and I wish I knew why.
It's very appropriate for EA to basically murder Dead Space, then reanimate the corpse and puppet it around for it's own malicious ends.
A remake of the OG dead space??? Weird choice for a game that hasn’t even aged that much
agreed just put the original on current gen consoles.
They have to keep inventing different ways to sell us the same products relentlessly. Why own one game once, when you can own it 4 or 5 times!
Event Horizon is still the best Doom movie, though :P
Ghosts of Mars is a better Doom movie, EH is the 40K prequel movie.
Never travel through the immaterium without a Gellar field, kids.
Dead Space…. As in dead space visible in EA games studios line-up because of the suppression of Visceral Games ?
So EA plans on skinning the long dead corpse of Dead Space, wearing its rotting flesh as a skin suit and parading around in front of the IPs former fanbase asking for nostalgia money to be placed in its g string? Yep, that’s the EA we know and hate.
There's that new (not) Dead Space game being made by it's former devs. Hopefully it'll be good.
Dead space (like RE4) aren’t dated enough to warrant the remake treatment. I get reboots like doom and the new tomb raider trilogy because they update the originals and are new and keep the core with new mechanics. I get RE2&3 and FF7 remakes because the originals are dated visually and clunky. Dead space and RE4 don’t need that treatment so it feels like a cash grab
I understand the RE4 a lot more. Out of all the RE games it's the one that has been ported the most and it just makes more sense to remake it at this point as I think right now it's actually been ported over all consoles. So a remake is way less of a cash grab if they plan on giving it the RE:2 treatment.
@@Hayson898 I don't think RE4 should be remade at all. The game is already perfect and is already a third-person action horror game with the camera over the shoulder. The only things left to change to 'modernise' it are the couple of things that make it feel so unique. That and the graphics, but a graphical update alone is just a remaster.
RE2 and 3 on the other hand were totally different types of gameplay from their remakes, so it feels more warranted to remake that from the ground up as everything needs to be changed (even though I prefer the original RE2 and 3 to the remakes, personally). You're really changing everything about the game when you go from fixed cameras and auto-aim to full camera control and manual fine-aiming. The type of gameplay RE4 already has is just too similar to that to warrant a remake in my opinion, moreover as the couple of gameplay changes that would be needed to fit it to that mould would hinder much of what makes the original RE4 feel as good and special as it does.
@@Gaff.
Don't get me wrong, I do see your point but RE4 has been remastered and put on every console. I remember before RE7 was announced the jokes that Capcom wasn't going to make another resident evil game and just constantly port RE4.
Side note: it's on iOs, and android (Resident Evil 4 mobile). It's been ported to the Wii, the Switch, Windows, Ps2, ps3, xbox 360, ps4, xbox one and the....oculus quest 2?!?(what?!)
When RE2 remake was out the talk of wanting RE4 to be remade instead of another HD remaster was there, and when RE3 was announced and out I noticed that more people talking about that and wanting it. So to me it just seems like a natural conclusion, like of course if we're gonna remake 2 and 3 then next would be remaking 4 and hey maybe they'll remake 5. I wanna see how they'd have Chris punch a boulder without it being just as comical or adding more comedy to it since I do notice that they try to world build a bit more in the remakes.
The game came out in 2005 and while easily available I think that a remake would bring in the younger generations and more money then another remaster. Also they're not going to take away the remastered versions, so you can play those instead. I am a bit sad that they are not going in order, and are doing RE4 before Code Veronica though.
@@Hayson898 From a business standpoint, sure, remaking RE4 is probably a pretty good idea considering its popularity and status as a classic, alongside the fact that there are younger people that feel they should have been 'warned' the game uses only one analogue stick for movement and the other one barely controls the camera. But to me, that's what makes RE4 the game that it is. I have a big problem with how nowadays, more and more people just want every game to play and feel almost identical, and outright blame the game itself when it doesn't. I would blame the industry for pumping out nearly identical games every five minutes and training people to feel weird if a game doesn't immediately feel 100% comfortable the first time you pick it up.
This seems to be an unpopular opinion but RE5 is one of my favourite games of all time. Ironically, Jim complained about companies shoehorning co-op into games during that time, but my girlfriend and I have a really hard time finding games with local co-op these days, moreover games that are worth bothering with. As a single-player experience or a horror game, RE5 is far less worthwhile, but as a local co-op action game, I think it's the best one out there. Best I've played anyhow.
I can't say I'm sad or excited about a RE4 or C:V remake or what order they go in. If they make it, I'll try it, but I don't have any expectations on it either way. I thought RE2 2019 was great but prefer the original. RE3 2020 was a major disappointment however. In both cases, I wouldn't even consider them the same game as the original, but a totally different experience using the same story germ ideas. I'm actually more interested in a completely new game in the style of RE2 2019, particularly the way they did the No Way Out mini-game. Something about that was just really bang on and tight. As far as the main game, I really only loved the police station, though the rest isn't bad or anything.
@@Gaff.
Yeah I see what you're saying. While I am the same age as Ray I actually never got to experience the RE series or any of the classic console games (unless you count Nintendo boy colour and rest of the Nintendo handheld line) so those controls and cameras don't stick to me like they would you or other who have played them, the only one that didn't greatly annoy me or give me a hard time while playing on the lowest difficulty was RE 1, but that game was made with that control scheme in mind so yeah I get your view point.
I don't think your opinion on RE5 is bad at all, actually(at least on the side of the internet I've been too) that's a pretty common one. It's a good and fun co-op game but if you're going into expecting resident evil horror then you will be disappointed. I will cut critics slack on that because at the time it came out I think co-op was sort of being pushed into a lot of games. I can't remember too well but I think this was around the time AAA publishers were saying "horror games are dead" and that everyone wanted co-op.
I don't hype myself up for games, but I will always try to remain cautiously optimistic, and interested in where a series, reboot or development team goes next(Unless its EA, because at this point we know what will happen.) So yeah I am in the same boat as you with wondering what RE9 will be.

A dead franchise based around corpses being resurrected by an evil entity to rampage among the living is being resurrected by EA.
You have to admit, there is a bit of closed-circle poetry to that.
Many companies can get away with evil because we need what they sell. That doesn’t apply to video games. A company that destroys talented studios, uses micro transaction, or abuses workers is showing contempt. Walk away and never look back.
I remember when Dead Space 3 came out and I wondered where the Dead Space had gone
Same with Lost Planet 3 at the same time? Two franchises I loved and they seemed to just have... switched out?

>"reimagining" Dead Space 1.
And by that they mean shove in microtransactions, forced always online, and loot boxes. And clean out all the charm the game had.
But they wont do that.
I am in a similar mindset. I loved playing Dead Space when I was younger. Dead Space 2 wove in psychological horror into the game seamlessly. Dead Space 3 was a betrayal that I still played because it was a Dead Space game and I was sucked into the story.
The thing I really hate is that if this reboot succeeds they will keep doing it. And if it fails the executives will just lay people off instead of taking a hit to their growing hoard of useless money.
same for me, i got a love/hate relationship for the remake
