You contradict yourself at 4:30 by saying first before hand that both vehicles have the kick sensor, then change it at 4:30 to say the Highlander doesn't have it but it does have feature where you stand it behind the lit gate and it auto opens. This is not true this is not a feature 2020. The kick sensor is in the 2020 XLE, Limited and Platinum models.

Atlas all the way. The interior isn’t all fancy like in the highlander but honestly it’s simple and clean. The center display is massive and ridiculously placed in the highlander. Legroom is the real benefit to the Atlas. It has an actual usable 3rd row for adults. Child seats don’t have to come out to fold the seats to allow said adult into 3rd row. Most importantly it doesn’t look like a minivan.

Honestly on this one... the Atlas wins hands down for just one simple reason for me. I’ve owned Asian cars for a long time. Had the Hyundai Santa Fe before I bought the atlas. If you enjoy a solid ride and not feeling like your going down the highway in a soda can the simply buy the Atlas. You and your family will enjoy SPACE AND A SOLID RIDE. You may get a couple extra bells on the Asian ride but the Germans have nailed the ride! Hands down buy the Atlas just for this reason. 😊 you will be glad! Oh also you won’t feel like you’re trying to stuff your entire family into a sardine can that feels claustrophobic! You get plenty of space in the atlas, and that’s worth thousands on a long trip if you know what I mean. Also... just look at the Atlas next to the Toyota. The Toyota looks like a miniature car next to the Atlas. 😊

If it breaks down, blame Toyota in part. The VR6 has an aisin transmission and the non turbo inline VR6. How did you determine that it will not last more than 7 years? My 13 Jetta TDI is 9 years old with 200,000 miles. Still running trouble free. Plenty of MK5s still going around.

The only reason I would get the highlander is because of the reliability. But I would 100% get the Atlas over the highlander because of space, the boxy simple look, the plain interior, and you don’t see it every 10 minutes ( at least in my city you don’t ). Price wise, the highlander is a bit easier. The Atlas SEL Premium is $56,750 in my local dealership.

I’ve owned a few Volkswagens and my concern with them now is the direct injection and the fact that there is carbon buildup and perhaps the manufacturer is trying to be fuel efficient, however when getting the carbon buildup that is buried deep in the engine is extremely costly to clean. It has to be done manually and I’ve had it done twice. The first it was close to 700 USD and because I had to have the manifold intake replaced at 111k miles, the dealer recommended cleaning the carbon. That cost about 165USD and was cheaper because the car was apart. I’ve not heard of any other brand having this problem. Maybe they do, but I will steer away from a VW. In fact, my next car will be the Highlander.

Plus, looked so ugly when compared to the Atlas. Third row of the highlander was unusable at best. No point in why they even put it there. Atlas was very solid from the moment you step inside. Incredible ride, quiet, roomy and spacious for the entire family. It took me and my wife not more than 5 minutes to go with the Atlas. And, we are a Toyota family. Regardless Atlas won hands down.
