  • Join me for a walk through my front garden in late June, North Texas, Zone 8a!! Texas Heat is kicking in, is the garden hitting it's peak??? Lots of updates throughout the garden, some garden wins, garden fails, and I even caught footage of a green anole catching and eating a spider. Awwwww!

    Great video. Sunshine Ligustrums are a favorite of mine too. Purple Viteks get big. I prune ours back hard to keep it in a tree form. I’m always removing the shoots. Your front garden is lovely! -Robin

      I use Corry's Slug and Snail Killer. It's a granular bait that you put around the plant. Works well for me!

    Do you have a water well? If not how do you keep your grass so green and your flowers alive?

    • @GrowRoots23
      @GrowRoots23  Рік тому +1

      No, we don't have a well. We have everything on an irrigation system called Rachio. It calculates how much water each zone needs based on the weather and waters early early in the morning on days it is needed. It's great!! Most of my flower beds and pots have been slowly converted to drip line irrigation this year, which also helps save water.

    your coleus are leggy because you did not cut the blooms, i always cut the blooms and pinch the tops makes them super bushy. you can take a cutting on all coleus and put them in a pot of soil they will grow have been doing this for years, do not have to root them in water and in a month you have a nice other pot of coleus. Have never seen anyone put hydrangea in a pot....lol

    • @GrowRoots23
      @GrowRoots23  Рік тому

      Thanks for the info. I have heard many say that Coleus blooms and tips should be pinched off to create bushier growth and prevent legginess. I guess because it was my first time growing it, I wanted to see the result if I left it alone! It's beautiful, but I've been pinching them off now to get bushier growth. You will see when I post the July front yard garden tour!

      @@GrowRoots23 can't wait to see that!! I have several lantana the standard not the pink and yellow...and if planted in the ground they will pop up all over your yard over the years...i had 2 now I have 5 other plants over a period of 6 years...each time i walk past the biggest lantana about 30 butterflies fly out...it is such a joy and a great pollinator...plant lantana in the ground!!

    • @GrowRoots23
      @GrowRoots23  Рік тому

      @@cass77788 the July Front Garden Tour has been posted, so you can see an update on the Coleus! I will definitely consider planting lantana in the ground. I have to research which variety is perennial in zone 8! A lady in our neighborhood has one...she calls it Big Bertha. 😂 Every year it gets bigger and bigger!

    • @cass77788
      @cass77788 Рік тому

      @@GrowRoots23 my lantana is my fav...and it will bloom twice during the season. the yellow and orange is the best variety, it's the old standard and the most hardiest. mine dies completely and we cut it completely to the ground and it comes back huge each year, its really amazing how plants thrive and return each year. My zone is 7b so we are considered 5 degrees cooler than TX i am in OK. the absolute best way to obtain a perennial garden is seeds!!! you can get like 6 times as many plants than buying individual plants, that way you can harvest the seeds and never have to buy another plant again.
