Hi! My name is Shannon, and my garden is located in North Texas; Zone 8a. I am a home gardener with limited space and limited funds; so I try my best to maximize my garden with the space I have while being smart and frugal! I found joy in gardening in 2020, along with many many people who decided to garden during the pandemic and became hooked! I created this UA-cam Channel in 2023 because I found a desire to share my joy in gardening and share my experiences as a North Texas gardener. I also wanted to document my garden throughout the season so that I could learn from my successes and mistakes and be able to see it change throughout the year in a very tangible way! I hope you find the joy in gardening as I do, and subscribe to my channel!

I appreciate the information. I will be propagating lots tomorrow for tree forms. Besides you, I’ve recently seen 2 other UA-camrs who have given me the most needed info for tree forming Hydrangeas. I understand now why my pee gee shrub looks so flopped over, especially when it rains. I have both the limelight & pee gee. There is one I had propagated from last year from the pee gee in which it can give me a head start on tree forming for next spring when I prune it. I hope my journey runs well.
I wish you success!! I will be tree forming one of my one year old Limelight Hydrangeas next spring! It has a perfectly vertical, very strong branch in the center that I will use for the trunk! If it goes well it will be my second successful tree formed Limelight! Good luck to you!
@@GrowRoots23 Thank you so very much. I will wait patiently to see how it all turns out.
Whats the name of Plant, Flower and what uses of it in medical science?
I believe it is a wild morning glory. I am not sure if it has any medicinal uses, but it is so beautiful!
It's stunning! I added 2 crossvines to my garden last fall and I can't wait until mine grow huge. I just love love seeing this plant. Your trellises and the way you grow the crossvine up them, it's beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this info with us about a truly wonderful vine.
This made my day, and thank you!! Don't worry, if your Crossvine performs like mine, next growing season it will LEAP!! It truly is the best vine!
@@GrowRoots23 That's great to hear! We just got some rain finally, after some drought, so that could help as well. I don't know if it grows where you live, but Carolina Jessamine is a nice vine, too! I'm in East Tennessee for reference. I don't get a ton of blooms on my Jessamine vine yet, but the foliage is pretty. Thought if you needed another vine, you could look into it.
@@awildapproach yes!! I have neighbors that have Carolina Jessamine, and it's great! It's evergreen here in North Texas, and blooms pretty well in spring. I have even seen someone put up a short fence, let it grow, and it looks like a yellow flowering shrub! They do great here.
@@GrowRoots23 Good to hear. Happy Gardening!
I found your video through your Bakers creek review! Very IMPRESSIVE!!!
Thank you SO much!! I didn't grow Gomphrena this year, but I'm definitely growing it next year!! Truly an amazing plant!
I've been growing a "weed" vine on a trellis, allowing it to get woody and huge, and I don't regret it. It's Bittersweet Nightshade. (Not the poisonous one) It has the most beautiful purple flowers that turn into droops of red berries. It seeds itself and layers itself. To manage this: I cut it down to 6" above ground in the fall. Pick up any berries I can see, and make sure to pull the seedlings in the spring. Sometimes, it travels underground so I just rip that part out, back to the main plant. It is a lot of maintenance, but it is worth it to me for the flowers. My yard is kind of wild around the edges, so I don't care if it shows up our there.
Thank you for this info!! Hopefully I can have a similar experience with my wild morning glory!! I agree, some maintenance is definitely worth the gorgeous, consistent flowers that all of the pollinators LOVE!
It looks great Shannon! That was interesting information about the Queen Butterflies! Now i'm going to on the watch out for them:)
Thank you Dawn!! I got my Mistflower this past spring at Denton Plant Factory! I've also seen it at Rooted In Pilot Point, and I think I've seen it at Shades of Green (Frisco or Celina). It's lovely and it has consistently bloomed for me Spring until now.
My coreopsis is also looking sad after looking so great in the spring
Oh no! Hopefully it will make a comeback in the fall, or complete rejuvenation next spring!
you also soak the seeds overnight.
Girl don’t let the morning glory fool you, believe me it’s big headache ❤
Oh yes, I have a feeling I'm going to be paying for it next spring and summer! But it is so beautiful right now! And the bees and hummingbirds do LOVE it. But yeah... I know I'll regret letting it grow!
I have heard that zinnia like your zinderella, that’s supposed to have a fun middle Pom Pom, don’t usually get the Pom Pom in hot climates😢
Marlene that would make sense! No more Zinderella for me. I ordered some new varieties of Zinnia for next year...can't wait! I love how there are hundreds of varieties to try!
@@GrowRoots23 soooo many😃
The zinderella series is just like that I’m afraid. Not the seed company’s fault 😢
Oh that makes me sad. The pictures are very misrepresenting, I soo wish they had turned out like the pictures!
Halfway thru the video now. That view is awesome and even better knowing that its protected. Do you remember me commenting to you on facebook saying that i watched you on youtube? Hey again! DFW Gardener in traning here ☺
Yay, thanks for watching!! I do remember your comment! I so appreciate your support. ❤️ I love the DFW Gardeners pages on FB, Ice learned so much and still learning too!
Nice garden.
Thank you!! ❤️
Beautiful entrance to the house ❤
Thank you so much!
I was just listening to Jim Putnam and he said salvia greggi ( like your red one) is a cool weather bloomer. So spring and fall. Also, about your euphorbia in the planter, the purple color could be from a phosphorus deficiency. I’ve been big on learning about soil issues lately. 😊
Thank you Marlene! Good info!
Hope you feel better quickly.love your front garden.i kinda copied your layering .mine is buble gum with the dusty Miller.love it.
Oh I LOVE that! I am jealous that your supertunias will last all season! Even though I discovered banana water does help them, they still cannot take TEXAS heat, when we do not get below 80 degrees, even at night, for months at a time!
I am so jealous of that beautiful plant stand!!!!!
Thank you Rachael! I was so pleased when I saw it, and right around the block in my neighborhood!! 😍
Nice job.
Thanks Rosemary!
Your Adenium is doing great! They must love our high heat. I lucked out last week and was able to buy a very healthy large plant at Loews for a very reasonable price , and I would be ecstatic if it would produce blooms like yours 🤞
Thank you so much!! It is one of my favorite plants for sure! Good luck with yours!!
Beautiful yard!
Stacie's gardens are truly beautiful! Stay tuned, hopefully she will let me come again sometime!
Summer is the best time to germinate and plant them
I plant my seeds in the spring and allow the seedlings to grow in the full sun outside all summer long! Then I take them inside when temps dip below 45.
how long does it take for a seed pod to mature enough for the seed pods to burst open?
About 2 months for me! I have this season's seed pod that has been growing for a couple of months. It is getting close to opening!!
soak for 8 hours in water before you plant
Yes, I do that too!
Wow! That’s Awesome! Have a lovely weekend!
Thank you!! I hope you have a great weekend as well!!
Ok, you are the second person in 2 weeks (the other was my gardening neighbor) that has talked about the banana water, so i guess I’m gonna have to try it! I love that you grow and love so many of the same plants that i grow and love, and in basically the same north Texas Denton County conditions. Propagation is one of my current interests and I’m experimenting with a bunch of cuttings right now while I wait for cooler temperatures (it’s surely gonna turn soon, right?!) I know that mystic spires is patented, but i have propagated it in the past the same way that you’ve done your hydrangeas, just putting a woody stem in the soil. 😊 😊😊
Stacey- Banana water!! Yes try it! I love that we have the same plant interests too. We need to meet up some time! I'm going to try that with Mystic Spires Salvia, my understanding is that you just cannot sell plants that are patented and propagated. One happened to root itself and I put it somewhere else in the garden! 😉
I was feeling your frustration with your puppy, I have a two year old and even though he's better this year last year was not fun lol! Everything looks lovely and yes hyacinth bean vine is very vigorous, I thought mine would be blooming soon but not yet.
Thank you Michelle! I'm hoping after the puppy stage is over she will stay away from my garden! Still hoping for blooms on my Purple Hyacinth Bean Vine but still waiting! Thanks for watching and commenting!! ❤️
I'm with you Shannon! This has been a wonderful year so far ~ last year at this time, everything was burnt to a crisp! That is frustrating about your zinnias! That happens more than it should. Thank you for the wonderful tour!
Thank you Dawn! I just looked at our forecast and it looks like we have 2 straight weeks of 100 degree weather, so let's see what happens in August!
Good job on the tour. Enjoyed the content and please continue to do so. Blessings from Houston tx. 🤩
Thank you so much for your encouraging words!! ❤️
With all the heat you've been experiencing.your garden still soo lush.
Thank you Gracie! This summer is truly much cooler than last summer, so the plants are just thankful! 😂 And so am I!!
You know what's weird. I do have probably more than 20 sedum in my garden but only coupel of them I know the name.the one I actually bought at the store. The rest is free given to me so I dont know which is autumn joy or other type of sedum😅
So funny! But how awesome that you got them for free and get to enjoy them!! I have tried to propagate my sedum, and my cuttings took root and were growing, but this last week of 100+ temps every day killed all but one. I'm hoping to share with friends, too. Fall will be a better time to propagate.
Lovely
Thank you Joan!
Good job
Thank you Rosemary!
❤
Thank you Jeanie!
I’m so glad to hear you say the suoertunias don’t grow well for you. Either I live in central Florida and they don’t do well for me either. I don’t understand how Laura from garden answer can grow hers so big when it’s so hot where she is too. Maybe it’s the humidity?
Elizabeth, I'm with you! I would say the humidity is a big factor, but then Jenny from Gardening with Creekside can grow them big and beautiful and she is in North Carolina with plenty of humidity! Here's what I think it is- I don't know if Central Florida is like this- but here in Texas, we do not cool off at night! Our lows right now are in the 80s at night. Jenny and Lara both get to experience lows at night cooler than that in the summer. I have found the plants here struggle the most when our daytime temps are in the 100s and our lows are still in the 80s. Let me know if your conditions are similar!
Looking good.
Thank you Sabrina!!
Everything looks beautiful, love the morning glory flowers!
Thank you Michelle!! I am SO happy with the Blue Picotee Morning Glory! 💙
Bravo for getting a video done in this heat! It’s just not a fun time to be outside for longer than 5 min right now! 2024 has been the year of figuring out what to spend my money on next year. I don’t know if that’s a good idea for a video, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on what you’ve found this year that’s not worth the $$ (I might do that myself if I can get my act together 😂)
Thank you Stacey!! And thank you for the video idea! Perhaps I'll do a video on what plants to repeat and what to pass on next year!
Absolutely beautiful views❤❤❤❤
Thank you! And thank you for watching!!
Beautiful place ❤
Thank you! And thanks for watching!!
Beautiful frront garden.❤❤did he goose got moved? 😅
Thank you Gracie! Silly Goose may have changed angles, but she's been in the same spot for a bit. She started out originally in a different spot though!
It looks beautiful Shannon! We have had a lucky year so far! There is nothing better than being Bee Bombed...lol!
Thank you Dawn! ❤️ Yup, years ago getting bee bombed like that would have been traumatic! But now I don't mind it. 😂
❤
❤
Glad to know that TEMU is ok! Your hair looks adorable!
Thank you so much!! I do have an update on the products! The Solar Lights are not great, 3 out of 6 no longer work. The self watering plant stakes do not work well- they work a little maybe but not trustworthy. Moss poles are great! Zip ties are great! Plant stakes are great! And we installed the Giraffe Hose Reel today and I LOVE it!! I will try to do a video just on the hose reel!
I was just looking at the forcast for the week. Houston Heat index 108-110 very little rain 😩.
I found out that early this morning, a few cities about 1 hour south of us got a good amount of rain that was not forecasted except by the Texas Sage! That could be what mine was picking up on! So far no rain but hoping we get some!
